I guess your audio is just muted? For alsa you may unmute the channels with alsamixer or
amixer set Master,0 75% unmute
amixer set PCM,0 75% unmute
and in case of pulseaudio you can install and use something like pavucontrol.

  • No onboard audio after installing new graphics card

    Good afternoon,
    This is my system:
    Pavilion Elite 5100t ATX PX
    Vista 64
    Raedon HD 5670
After installing the video card, the onboard 5.1 audio panel at the back only produces sound for the subwoofer.  The front headphone jack is still working.  The video card supports HDMI, and therefore has an audio component in it.  I tried the following without any solution:
    1.  Setting onboard audio as "enable" in BIOS
    2.  Choosing "speakers" as default in control panel-->sound
    3.  Disabling the HDMI audio output in control panel-->sound
    4.  Uninstalling both audio drivers (onboard Realtek and AMD from the VC) with auto-reinstallation when restart
Those are the common recommendations I got from different forum.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you try the latest Realtek audio driver?
I had a problem similar to yours with my NVIDIA GT 460. It turned out to be a bad Realtek audio driver.  I had to go back to the original Realtek driver that came with my HP PC until Realtek fixed that issue that I reported to them.  I had tried six differnet Realtek drivers.

  • No Signal after installing new graphics card

Hello and thanks in advance for your help!
We have a 2yr old HP p6540y.  It has an ATI integrated Video Card. When we recently turned it on, we got a 'no signal' message on the monitor and then it would go to sleep.  We have tried several things to fix...listed below, in order, and are still getting the same message.  Please advise!
    1) No Signal: DVI, VGA, HDMI.  So we unplugged and restarted, no change.
    2) Checked monitor and DVI & VGA cords with another computer: They all work.
    3) Installed new Graphics Card: NVIDIA GEForce GT 610.  Still got same 'no signal' message.
    4) We plugged/unplugged all other cards/cords/anything we could and cleaned out.  Then, finally, the monitor turned on! But not for long....
    5) After restarting computer after installation of graphics card driver, we got the 'no signal' message again.  We once again, pulled out other cards/plugs and again the monitor/computer came to life.
    6) We unistalled the integrated ATI graphic card.  When we go to Display, Advanced Options, it lists our new NVIDIA as graphic/display card.
    7) We turned computer off overnight and this morning when we turned on, we once agin got the 'no signal' message.  We unplugged/plugged computer in several times.  Also tried the trick with pulling out cards/plugs and we got nothing.  No Signal.  After doing this several times (about 10), it finally worked again.
    8) We changed sleep settings to: Screensaver=Never; Sleep Mode=Never.
    9)  We restarted again to once again get no signal message.
So...what do we need to do?
    Thanks so much!

  • Program Monitor is Black, no video playback after installing new graphics card

I bought a PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card a few days ago, and since it's been installed, I've been unable to watch video playback in my program, source or even reference monitor.
Similarly, If I designate one of my monitors soley for video playback, the screen is just black, and as the timecode advances on my timeline I only hear sound.
My project is using "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" for Premiere Pro CS6.0.1
I went from using one graphics card to using two graphics cards, and installed a third monitor. I've spent the last few days trying everything I could think of, I even uninstalled and re-installed premiere.
    Hardware Specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
    HP Pavilion h8-1230z
    AMD-FX8150 3.59Ghz 8 core processesor
    16GB RAM
    600W PS
    EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti
    PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000
I am using a PCI x16 for the Quadro 2000
    I am using a PCI x1 slot w/x1-x16 adapter for the 550Ti
    Could this be the problem?
    Additional Information
Vectorscope, All scopes, YC Waveform - Display modes all work.
I downloaded the most recent Nvidia drivers for both of my cards.
I haven't received any error messages or had any problems in After Effects CS6, as video playback is working properly in my other adobe applications.

I am still building a new system, so currently I'm still using a 480. You can read all about my choices and progress here: Adobe Forums: Planning / building a new system. Part 1
There are 11 entries in the Benchmark Results that succesfully use the GTX 680, even though it is not 'supported'. They all use the 'hack'. However, the 680 has been added to the list of supported cards for AE, so it is only a matter of time before the 680 will be added to the list of supported cards for PR. Todd had made that clear. Now, when the 680 is added, it makes sense that the 670 will also be added. My guess is that both will be added in a short while.

  • [SOLVED] No sound after installing NVIDIA driver

I have just got a new graphics card (NVIDIA GT 610) and I have installed the proprietary driver for it. My PC has in-built Intel GPU. I had a problem with that that was fairly straight forward to fix. I blacklisted the i915, intel_agp modules as suggested here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … grated_GPU. But I now have no sound. I am almost certain that this is because there is an in-built sound card that I have now blacklisted because before I blacklisted those modules sound seemed to be working fine.
I'm not sure of any great diagnostics tools for sound but speaker-test outputs:
    speaker-test 1.0.27.2
    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1022:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory
    And aplay -l outputs:

That hasn't work but I'm not sure whether I did it properly.
    I did cat /proc/asound/modules:
    0 snd_hda_intel
    1 snd_intel8x0
    and set /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to
    options snd slots=snd_hda_intel,snd_intel8x0
    options snd_hda_intel=0
    options snd_intel8x0=1
I'm not sure if its of any use but lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t ouput:

  • Power Mac G5 crashes after installing new Graphics Card

Hello, this is my first post and if anyone can offer any help with my problem I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry for the long description, but I want to get all of the facts out.
Its a bit convoluted, but here goes...
I was having a problem with one of my G5 computers and I thought at first that the problem was the graphics card. So I bought an ATI Radeon 9600XT card on eBay. Before that card arrived, I determined that the problem with the computer was a faulty firewire card, I replaced that and this computer now runs fine.
After the Radeon card was delivered, I put it in another G5 (1.6 processor) being that it was an upgrade from the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 that was already in the computer. After about a week, this computer crashed and crashed repeatedly. So I switched the card back to the original nVidia GeForce FX 5200, but it still kept crashing.
I then initialized the drive and reinstalled 10.4. This did not solve the problem, the computer keeps crashing with the screen that says "this computer needs to restart..." same as before. I then swapped this nVidia GeForce FX 5200 card with another identical nVidia card that I have from a 3rd G5. This not only did not stop the crashes, but caused this third G5 to crash.
When I start the G5 1.6 up in safe boot, the computer does not crash and will run stable.
I really would appreciate any advice.

Ok I ran AHT on both machines and everything passed on both. The G5 #1 (1.6) restarted and ran ok (in and out of sleep mode) overnight. When I shut down, the screen went dark and all seemed well, but the computer never actually "shut off".
Anyway I thought that if I could pull the panic logs from each machine that it may be helpful for someone to diagnose just exactly what is going on. So here are the panic logs for each G5.

  • 3000 j115 A11 stopped working after installing new graphics card

I thought i would be slick and install a new graphics card (asus GEForce 8500GT) after i put it in my 3000 j115 A11 everything stopped working. I can turn the tower on and it gives two beeps. Nothing displays on the monitor (it doesn't leave powersaving mode). It is also very quiet like it is not even trying to work. Did I just destroy my computer? Is there anything I can do?
PS. I did take the asus card back out, so I'm not that lucky
PSS. Got back to being able to boot but now I can't get back into bios to switch from PCI back to original built in card. If I try it just hangs after pressing enter to interupt normal setup

I find this thread very interesting. I am assuming this system (3000 j115 A11) is the same as one I mentioned in a post from June 12 (7387A11... Graphics upgradeable?).... and is still hanging out there. Perhaps if Lenovo, or anybody else for that matter, could/would provide SPECIFIC upgrade instructions we could all be enlightened. (In my case I do not own a Lenovo computer but I am hoping to help my sister-in-law with her Lenovo and don't look forward to a major meltdown if the systems are not capable of this, otherwise, simple upgrade.)
Niether of the 2 previous posters mentioned if they upgraded the PS in thier respective systems prior to the graphics card installation (although ala17 "recently" did.). One had issues and the other didn't. If that should be the first step toward the upgrade, it would be helpful to know beforehand.
Thanks and good luck. Post back if you get to the bottom of it.

  • Startup problems after instaling new graphics card drivers

PC:    HP   p6520 f    with a 400 watt power supply
video card:    AMD Radeon 6570   (MD1GD3)
After getting the 400 watt power supply, I was able to uninstall the intergrated graphics card's drivers, but I can't succsesfully startup after installing drivers for the new card without a system restore, which of course gets rid of the new drivers.
I've tried newer drivers, but those don't work either.
    Any suggestions?

Hello Sev_07.  I understand you're unable to install your video card drivers.
Are you receiving an error on boot?
Are you experiencing any issues with other pieces of hardware?
Have you tried running HP Support Assistant and Windows Update to ensure all of the software and drivers are completely up to date?
It may also be helpful for you to provide your product number so I can look at your computer's specifications.  This document can show you where this is located.
I hope you have a great day!

  • Super Grainy picture after installing new graphic card

I followed all directions to a "T" with removing the old card and installing the new card. Its in the correct AGP slot. When I turned on the computer my desktop was black and white and super grainy looking. I could barely see anything. I then installed the software and that was successful but my display still looked the same. I then restarted my computer and it took a little longer than normal to come up. However when it finally came up, I have NO picture now. I use a HDTV for a monitor since I do video editing. I am using a DVI cable from computer to TV. I should note that when I first turn on the computer I can clearly see the screen with the APPLE and spinning gear. After that it goes down hill in terms of picture quality.
    What could be wrong?
The card is a ATI RADEON 9600 PRO and was recommended for Powermac G5's.
I am typing this from my laptop while I am working on my desktop. I just did a hard turn off/restart and this time my desktop came up much faster and I can see it a lot better but there is still grainy noise on 90% of the screen. My DVI cable is fully connected as well.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi-
Because you are connected to a TV rather than a monitor, it could be that the resolution is not set correctly.
Try to set a different resolution for the screen through you Display System Preferences. If you can't see properly, try a boot to Safe Mode (hold Shift while starting) and then open the Display preference panels.
You will have to restart normally, after setting the resolution, to test the change.
If you have a computer monitor, try the monitor. If the monitor exhibits the same problems, I would consider that that particular card is the problem, and would return it.

  • 6 beeps after installing new graphic card

Hi I just bought a new graphic card for my p6-2055sc and it makes 6 beeps when trying booting up.
The new graphic card is Geforce GTX 750ti
I cant get it to work.
Have tried to find the latest BIOS but the latest one is from 2012 :/
    Please help me.

Thanks for the quick answers. I think i will buy a new motherboard or a upgrade package. Is it possible that someone can answer if this all would work together ?
I thinking of buying this sort of upgrade package when im still on a "spending money spree".

  • Can not start x after installing nvidia 173.14.x drivers [SOLVED]

After installing nvidia-beta (version 173.14.05-5) I am unable to start x. I receive the errors:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device PCI:1:0:0.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please see the COMMON PROBLEMS section in the README for
    (EE) NVIDIA(0): additional information.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!
I have tried the installer directly from nVidia itself and I receive the same results. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

nvidia-utils-beta was installed, also my GPU is listed as supported on nvidia's site.

  • Please help :) Error Ray-tracing on the GPU requires an approved NVIDIA graphics card and CUDA 5.0.

Hi All, if anyone can help me fix this error I will be most aprreciative.
I get this error when I open After Effects.
Ray-tracing on the GPU requires an approved NVIDIA graphics card and CUDA 5.0 or later. For now, ray tracing will use the CPU.
After installing CUDA 5.0 or later, restart your computer.

Graphics  Card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB (not a NVIDIA its AMD)
I have tried updating software and the operating system as this is now what recent OSX versions do apparently. Not downoloading the driver software as AMD only support up to the previous operating system.
    Kind Regards Toby.

I have this warning come up, too. And when I close it, the program crashes. I can't get it to work without it.
I use Photoshop CC and that works fine.
I'm running Windows 8.1(more info below). I've tried to read for solutions in forums but none of them provide any.
Some have said they figured it out but don't say how, another said he re-installed Windows?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi,
No, you can't upgrade the graphics chip as it's a shared Intel graphics. You couldn't also upgrade a dedicated graphics like nVidia or ATI ones as it is soldered to the motherboard. The only way how to upgrade a graphics chip on a laptop like this is to replace the motherboard by a compatible one with a more powerful chip on it.

  • Premiere Elements 9 crashes with multiple NVIDIA graphics cards under Windows 7

I've just installed Premiere Elements 9 and found that it will not run at all with multiple NVIDIA graphics cards active under Windows 7.  Per all the other discussions, I updated the NVIDIA drivers and Quicktime support to the latest versions.  (NVIDIA version 260.99).  I have both a 9400 GT and an 8400 GS installed, to support multiple monitors.  They both use the same driver.  The PRE 9 organizer will run, but as soon as I create or load a project it quickly crashes.
On a long shot I disabled the 8400 GS card in the Device Manager and now I can run PRE 9.  Of course this means giving up one of my monitors.  Any other ideas?

Over in the Premiere Pro area (or maybe it was in the Hardware section... didn't pay a lot of attention 'cause it really didn't matter to me) I read a message about using two nVidia cards with no problems (other than no dual-card SLI support)
I **think** that was with two SAME model nVidia cards
And, of course, PPro is completely different code, so PreEl may simply not work with two nVidia cards

  • After choosing the graphics card (Quadro 4000) as recommended by adobe  ..we have problems....

After choosing the graphics card (Quadro 4000) and then adobe as the partner the following applicatons are shown. I have noticed that the only CS6 product is the Premiere Pro CS6 but we do use the whole Adobe Master Suite.
Can Adobe please provide clarification on what version of driver is required for the Adobe Master Suite CS6 when using the Quadro 4000 graphics card in windows 7 64bit (pro)
We are having constant problems with crashing programs ACROSS the SUITE,unsee-able footage, drop frames on outputs( reguardless of WHAT SETTINGS.) and system lock ups. All  codecs are on board ,Our I T staff and production staff are pulling their hair out as one conflict /problem is resolved , another is created somewhere else.
have tired latest  recommended drivers and rolled back  a few. still NO resolution.
THe systm   has,at adobe 's tech recommendations, had adobe cleaner remove ALL and cloud has reinstalled all of the master suite. still no resolution.

This could be a combination of factors or a bad Quadro card of which I would not be surprised. You may want to contact me direct on this one so I can remote in and see what is going on.
