No sound after os x 10.9.3 update

After upgrading to os X 10.9.3, there is no longer any sound, nor does it see any speakers including the internal speaker.
Is there a fix?

Hey Guys,
After recent SMC+EFI update on Macbook Air (Mid 2013) OSX v10.9.3, my internal audio device disappeared,
I tried everything I could find in google with no luck. (NPRAM+SMC reset, reloading kents etc.)
THIS IS WHAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ME:
1. I opened /System/Library/Extensions folder, there I found besides the usual AppleHDA.kext, also an AppleHDA.kext.disabled one.
2. I switched between them (swapped their names, sometimes you'll have to do it from the "get info" menu to take effect)
-- if you don't have this AppleHDA.kext.disabled one, try searching for one lil older than yours in the internet
3. then I unloaded and reloaded the kent dir again-
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
And voila!
Hope it helps someone, as I spent hours until getting this to work again

When I press the volume buttons it says "Sound Effects" and no volume bars display. • No sound after upgrading to Windows 7 M55-S3293

I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the drivers from Toshiba for my sound card and before installing checked the windows XP box under the compatibility tab.  No sound.  I did windows update for this driver and it installed an updated driver.  No sound.  I went to Realtek and installed the windows 7 generic driver for this sound card (thats all manufacturer's offer is a generic driver) and LOW sound.  Now I rebooted and back to No sound.
Before windows 7 sound, after no sound.
Toshiba put out a fix for a contextant audio driver for the low sound problem to be corrected with windows 7 but I cannot find anything for my computer.
I don't know know what to do!  I don't want to go back to using XP but sound is REALLY important.  I would think this is an integrated sound card (Toshiba isn't making service manuals public anymore, it was there the other day and gone today) so I cannot remove it.  I don't think I have any available PCI slots to install a new one internally and I don't want extrenal speakers since I do a lot of traveling.
Is there a fix I don't know about?  What can I do?  Please HELP!!!

    Hi Ryan,
    Go here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1671893&pf=true
and download the software called "Sound Utility to Turn Mute Off After Upgrading to Vista", it is made for people that upgrade to VISTA, however, once you have all your Toshiba updates installed by downloading the Toshiba updates, then apply this update to your Windows7 system and the problem will resolve.
I don't know why they did not make this update part of the Toshiba Update Package.
    I hope this helps,
    best,
    Alejandro

  • No web sound after 10.4.7 update

I am unable to get any web based sound, either on safari, firefox or netscape. No sound on quick time, windows media player or real player. Alert tones work, Itunes work, just nothing from the internet. This began imeadtaely after the last 10.4.7 update. Apple care was unable to help with this situation. All sounds works on the windows side, just not on the Mac side. THIS IS GETTING VERY FRUSTRATING! Is this happening to anyone else? Are there any solutions to this problem?

wow, that is very strange...well, i think that you should do a fresh reinstall of Mac OSX and only upgrade to 10.4.6 and then wait for 10.4.8...don't worry, this isn't that big of an update

  • HT4623 My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine

My iPad 3 has lost the speaker sound after updating to iOS 6.1, headphones are working fine. Please help me out, done all the troubleshooting like restarting, side switcing, cleeaning the headphone jack etc.,

Hi I also have this problem. Sound was only working on the headphones and also on the volume slider in the settings app. Everywhere else I get no sound and no volume slider. Now the headphones don't work either.
    (I'm using an ipad 2 iOS 6.1.2)
And NO it's not muted. I've reset all settings and restarted the iPad. Been searching forums for a couple days. Some say its a dirty docking port problem, others suggest a Skype or other app update that could be the problem.
No volume control icon appears when I press the volume control buttons. Only says sound effects, if it says anything at all. Most often there is NO volume icon. YouTube, video, music, and other game apps, no sound.

  • Poor sound after updating to ISO 7

Poor sound after updating to ISO 7. Before updating i had terrific sound both on my music and videos I recorded with my cam, i had to turn it down. Now, after update, i put volym on Max and can hardly hear the music or whatever. Anyone else with same problem?

I also loved my iphone because it HAD great sound.  Since the update of the iso7 for my iphone 4s, i am missing my calls because I cannot hear the phone ringing.  The sound is so low even though I have it on the highest sound possible.  The is something in the update that caused this problem among others such as the phone blinking out while I am viewing videos.  Help Apple!  THe battery is going from 100 percent to 20 percent in two hours even when I have almost turned off everything on my iphone.  I need my sound back!  Apple please find out what happened in your update that caused the loss of the sound!

  • Lost ipad sound after upgrading to ios7

As soon as I click the iOS7 upgrade my ipad volume is gone

First thing to try if you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
Still no luck - try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.
If that fails, then try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but all device settings have to be entered again.
Should you still have no sound after trying all of these steps, restoring the iOS software would be the next thing to try.

  • No sound after Windows 8 update on HP Pavilion G6

    Hi,
After updating Windows8 to 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G6-2235TX laptop i have no sound.
I have followed instructions posted on this forum and had no luck getting the sound to work.
I have tried updating to a couple of different drivers SP59649 & SP58517
Can anyone help with the correct driver that will work for my model laptop
    Thanks

    Hello gardied63,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that after updating to Windows 8.1 you don't have any sound and have tried to get it working. I will try to help you with this.
The link to the driver update for your sound can be located here: IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver. You will notice that it's a file that you've already tried. However, this is the correct driver for your Notebook.
What you can also do is follow this document: No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8). Read over it carefully and try everything suggested as something here may help in correcting the issue you have.
Please let me know how this goes, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • No sound after OSX 10.6.8 upgrade

No sound after OSX 10.6.8 upgrade

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • How to prevent key sound after pressing Enter

I don't want to hear "beep" sound after pressing enter in TextBox object.
Is it possible to prevent this?
    Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyPress
    If e.KeyChar = Convert.ToChar(13) Then
MsgBox("You will hear "beep" after you press it")
    End If
    End Sub

    Hi,
I am guessing this is a single line TextBox.  You can use the KeyDown event to detect the Enter key being pressed and Suppress the Key.  If you are using the Enter Key to do something when it is pressed in the TextBox then put it in here
    instead of the KeyPress event.
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyDown
    If e.KeyCode = Keys.Enter Then
    e.SuppressKeyPress = True
'Do something here if you need to when Enter is pressed
    End If
    End Sub
If you say it can`t be done then i`ll try it

  • How to resume sound after stopping !!

    hi,
hoping to fine an answer of how to resume the sound after
    stoping
for example, when i'm using stopAllsounds(); AS
    now sounds stopped
and i wanna play it again and resume
    !!!

that's not the best way to use sound in flash.
it's more flexible and there are less complications if you
remove that sound from the timeline, right click on it in the
library, click linkage and assign it a linkage id. then create a
    sound instance:
    var s:Sound = new Sound(this);
    s.attachSound("yourlinkageid");
    // you can then use:
s.start(); // to start your sound
s.stop(); // to stop your sound
// and, in fact, you can use all the sound methods and
properties. check the flash help files.
