No sound after OSX 10.7.4 update

Hi,
I'm using the MBP 17" (2011) model.
Everything works fine until I updated to OSX 10.7.4
I had read several comments about this issue, but still could not solve it.
Detail:
1. The volume logo turned to gray, and it was locked
2. In symtem sound preferences, it stated that "No output devices found" as well as "No input devices found"
3. There is no red light out from my AUDIO input as for many other does.
4. I had tried PRAM resetting for several times, but still does not works.
5. I had tried deleting com.apple.BezelServ...... as what suggested by some people, but does not work also.
6. The disk utility first aid does not solve the issue.
I ever had this problem with my old MB 13" while I'm watching movie.
It had been solved by PRAM resetting, but this time the PRAM resetting could not solve the problem for my MBP 17".
Thanks in advance for those who are going to help

Wow things are getting bad. I have the same problem after updating to 10.7.4
The control icon is greyed out and there is nothing in the 'sound preferences' that allows this to be remedied.
Some of the solutions here are draconian (I should not have to reinstall to fix this, Steve Jobs would be turning in his grave) and Apple should be rightly ashamed that such a essential feature has gone to ground in the latest update.
Sane solutions appreciated. I can't record, I can't playback existing music, iTunes is useless, I'm not keen on silent movies, can't use Acrobat Connect.......the list goes on.

  • After osx 10.8.5 update the bluethooth is no longer available

After osx 10.8.5 update the bluethooth is no longer available. It is shown that no Bluetooth is installed it. In front of the update everything worked faultlessly on my iMac late 2009.

Try shutting down your Mac and then unplugging it (completely) for about 30 seconds.  Then plug it in and power it back up.
This does what's called an "SMC reset" and will often resolve issues around AirPort and Bluetooth hardware of this nature.

  • Keyboard not responding after OSX 10.7.4 update

I have just installed the OSX 10.7.4 update.
About 12 hours after installation the screen dimmed with a message that I need to restart the computer. I did so and now after startup I get a message on the screen that the Bluetooth keyboard can't be found. I actually have a hard wired keyboard, not a Bluetooth one, but there is no response to keys on the keyboard and I can't get rid of the screen message, even after a restart.
So I can't start in safe mode or anything like that because the keyboard doesn't work. Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks for the suggestions, but the keyboard was connected to a built-in port.
When I came back to the computer about an hour after the problem appeared, the bluetooth message had gone and the normal keyboard was working again, so I could log in. I checked Bluetooth in System Preferences and found there was a "phantom" wireless keyboard listed, that I had never installed. I removed that from the list so hopefully the problem won't re-occur.
Not sure whether this problem was related to the update, but from other posts, it appears to have caused a number of issues.

  • Chinese display improperly in Safari and Firefox after OSX 10.6.7 update

After updating to 10.6.7 some Chinese websites don't display properly in both Safari and Firefox on my '08 book pro, while the '09 iMac has no such problem. On the book pro Chinese characters appear as unreadable squiggles. Other apps (word, mail, photoshop) seem to do fine post-update.
    Anyone encountered this? solution?

Puzzling. Why should it happen after the 10.6.7 update?
There is a long history of duplicate fonts causing problems in OS X. Do you know for sure whether you had duplicates of that one in 10.6.6?
Is this related to other more serious font problem reported by other users after the update?
I don't think the other one can be fixed by getting rid of duplicates.

  • NVDA(OpenGL) error escalates after OSX 10.7.4 update

I own a iMac6,1 model with NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 MB video card. It is perfectly fine, has a new disk and 4GB memory. However with every release of OSX I get more issues with the video of my iMac: from artifacts to completely garbled screen and temporary / full freezes. After updating to OSX 10.7.4 it has become unusable. The existing error messages in the kernel.log (and corresponding screen issues) now appear about 4-5 times a minute:
kernel: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error
    kernel: 00000069
Is there a known fix, or is Apple planning to address this issue please?

  • No Sound After iTunes 7.3.1 Update

I updated to 7.3.1 yesterday. Now I have no sound when I play music files. Here's the symtoms:
    1. Music tracks play in iTunes, but no sound. No sound on internal speakers or remotely through Airtunes.
    2. TV shows (and videos) play with sound.
    3. Sound works in all other applications, including Quicktime.
    4. I have made sure to deselect audio enhancer in iTunes.
Any help? Anyone have a similar problem?
This is a big deal to me. I think it's fair to say that I don't have a hardware problem since all other programs are able to use audio. Also, it is interesting that Quicktime can get audio from the same track from an iTunes library.

Did you restart after repairing permissions?

Any idea how to fix this BUG please???
Am using a Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Dreamweaver CC window disappears on multiple displays after OSX 10.10.2 Update

After updating to OSX 10.10.2 yesterday, I was unable to move my Files window to my second monitor which I have above my MBP. This seems to be a problem for all CC apps and the fix by Frans van der Geest (ACP) in this thread (Problems with InDesign CC 2014 on dual monitors since updating to OS X 10.10.2) fixed the problem. I'm posting this here in hopes that someone just using Dreamweaver (like me) will find the solution faster.

It's called testing, and it's supposed to happen extensively especially when you modify code  in a particular sub-system, like video.
On another note, while on the phone with Apple Support, I discovered that in System Preferences, Display setting, Arrange, if you make the upper monitor the primary monitor (by dragging the menu bar to the upper monitor) it works like it's supposed to even after you close/reopen Dreamweaver. Not ideal, but a least closer to the way it was. And now my workflow is affected less.

  • Frequent crashes after OSX 10.6.7 update

My mac -  last generation Intel iMac 27" has crashed more times in the last few days than the last few years combined. this after software update to OSX 10.6.7. A slowly descending curtain of black with an alert message to restart computer. On reboot, report to Apple refers to kernel panics.
    Anyone else have this happen?

I've had this very same issue with performance degrading over time on my Mid 2010 iMac (iMac11,3). I originally updated from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 via software update. Lazy man route. My normal procedure is to download the COMBO system updates which I skipped this time around and thats when things went south for me.
So if you want to attempt applying the COMBO 10.6.7 updater to your system, visit:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
Download the the 1.1GB 10.6.7 disk image to your machine...quit all your open applications...and launch the installer from the disk image and hopefully this clears up your problem. Don't forget to run software update after a successful Combo Update, to make sure you have the latest security patches to go along with it.

  • Wireless Printer Problems after OSX 10.9.1 Update

    Hi,
I've been having trouble detecting my HP C309g printer wirelessly following upgrade to Mavericks.
I can get it working with some effort but after some time it cant be reached again.
Not sure if the issue is linked to powersave on the printer of anything like that but i've had the same printer for a few years and never had such issues.
I've tried resetting the printing system and reinstalling the drivers etc, but not really solving the problem.
After trying a few of those steps this morning, i now dont see the printer in the list of available wireless printers, but i did have that before also so its not a direct result of those steps.
Any tips on debugging would be appreciated. I've seen a few other threads with similar issues. Not clear if the issue is airport updates or OSX updates etc.
    thanks

If there is some method to determine what IP address the HP is using, then you can often enter this IP address as a URL in a web browser. When the printer is connected to the same network as the computer this action should result in the internal web page of the printer appearing (assuming the printer has this facility which many do).
Or you could use the built-in Network Utility, which used to be located under Applications > Utilities but has been moved in Mavericks - now you must open System Information and select Windows > Network Utility. With this open there is a Ping tab. Here you can enter the IP address of the printer and press Ping. If there is a working path between the Mac and the printer then you should get a response to each Ping packet that is sent.

  • Mail, Chrome, Safari & others crash after OSX 10.9.4 update

I'm on a 27-inch, late 2012 iMac (intel), and after updating to 10.9.4 a number of my apps will not open - the icon bounces on the doc and then stops bouncing without ever opening.  Apps include Mail, Chrome, Safari no longer work.  What's worse is the Crash Reporter also crashes, so I never see a report.
I downloaded the OSX Updater Combo to see if I could re-run the installer, but the installer app does the same!
When running in Safe Mode, everything still crashes, but at least then the Crash Reporter doesn't crash.
I ran a diagnostics based on the instructions from this thread (Safari, System preferences and Chrome quits unexpectedly), and have pasted the response here:
    http://pastebin.com/aCBRZ371
Between that and from the Crash Reporter was saying when in Safe Mode, it looks like it has to do with the Webkit engine, something about a WebCore framework? This is beyond my depths.
The App Store app will start up, but nothing ever displays. Between that and the installer app crashing, I feel like I may be dead in the water.  Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    A.
Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    B.
Your hosts file is massively hacked. I suggest you unhack it and test.
    C.
If you still have problems after taking the above steps, run the following command:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.rpmuxd.plist
