No sound after repairs(k8nf3 plat replaced)

ok long story...
i recently bought a k8 computer using a k8t00 neo and a 3200+a64.it had 512 of noname ram and a fx5200,a dvd burner and a 120g drive.the k8t wasnt stable so i replaced it with a k8n neo plat.the GFX blew chunks so i replaced it with a gf6800
and i wanted to play with raid so i got 2 small drives,80g seagates.so far so good...
when i got 1G of ddr 400 ram(pqi),512x2 the system ran for about 3 days then freaked, the memory failed abysmally in memtest (off a knoppix build :D) so i got  2 sticks of v-data as a replacement...they did the same.after several rebuilds of winxp32
(grrr) i eventually reinstalled the original ram,333 noname,128Mbx2.the system was stable, even agressive timings on sysmem(bios) of 2,2.5,2,5 ran perfectly.(he...quite well
for 333 anyway)...it stayed stably for about 2 weeks and i flashed the bios from 1.4 to 1.5)it was fine for 3 days then i got a blue screen with an MCE error.(eeek! i know what the mce unit does...)the raid controller had kicked up its heels completely...win saw the drives but individually, and unformatted...so no raid.the supplier gave me another, ive installed it and the only changes are i removed a fan off the +12v line of my psu...and i didnt connect the analog audio from my dvd to my mobo.the sound is set to use digital anyway.the memory(which was fine in the p4 3.0ghz in the shop,at 400,but crashed constantly in a mates unoverclocked p4 2.4c @ 2.4) is now running sweet at 400,i decided to try it again and its quite happy...i dont see how the memory didnt work on the old mobo, unless its a noise/pcb routing thing(anyone?) cause a a64 (of course) has an onboard memory controller...
now i have no sound.i have tried going through all the drivers and stuff(bios etc)but i cant get noise...not 2ch not 5.1 not 7.1.not even through headphones, through either jack.i didnt reinstall win when i switched mobo's cause they were fuctionally identical.(yay black boxes that work)
i set up the bios before allowing win to load after install of the mobo tho,ive been in and out of the bios all the time,so i remembered all my settings easily.all the msi sound gear runs,i see all the apps and they are functional, buzzy bee etc,but i just get no sound...can anyone help?

Have u checked if your front panel audio connector (JAUD1) has jumpers on it (if u do not use it), if there aren't 2 jumpers on it u wil get no soundoutput on the back panel. Pins 5-6 and 9-10 should be jumperd. Check manual page 2-20 for more info. (connector is located on the bottom left of the MB)

  • Can integrated sound be repaired w/o replacing mother board?

I have a s3600t slimline PC with "Integrated Sound" rather than a sound card.  The Device Manager lists "unknown device on high definition audio bus" rather than "sound, video and game controllers". Realtec High Definition Sound is missing.  Apparently I have lost the Realtec High Definition Sound chipset.  Can not download Realtec driver(sp37543). During install process receive message "can not continue system does not meet minimum requirements". If I have lost a chip, can the "Integrated Sound" be repaired w/o replacing the entire mother board?

    Hi:
    Try the Realtek drivers from the realtek website for the OS you have. Accept the agreement. Download and install the driver you need;
    http://218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownType...
If you are getting the unknown device on HD audio bus, I would think there is nothing wrong with your audio chip or you would get no information at all.
If, in the unlikely event the onboard audio has suffered a hardware failure, yes, the motherboard would have to be replaced.
But before I went that route, I would buy a cheap PCIe x1 audio card to fix my sound. You have one available PCIe x1 slot for a PCIe x1 device.

  • HP Pavillion 2112-SA, No sound after CPU fan assembly replacement.

    Hello people,
I have been working on a Pavillion 2112-sa running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The original problem was a noisy CPU fan. TL;DR I replaced it with w genuine HP spare. Worked perfectly (the new fan that is...).
    However.
Under closer inspection, no sound output. To clarify, sound devices are present and associated drivers are "working", sound mixer shows sounds are being played, but nothing comes out of the internal speakers, OR any external speaker I plug into front jacks.
    Things I have tried:
    - I have replaced the internal speaker, which did not help.
    - I have booted up a copy of Linux (Mint) to see if it is a windows issue, but still got no sound.
    - I have tried reinstalling all audio devices/drivers using the software availble on the HP support website.
    - I have updated and defaulted the BIOS
    - I have checked, double checked and triple checked all connections on the motherboard internally, and can confirm is all as should be. (reference user manuals and other online media)
The only thing I can think of is that there is some sort of critical board fault, either caused by the original compromised CPU fan, and therefore perhaps heat damage or ESD damage as I have been wearing an anti-static band when handling the internal components of the laptop, but wont rule it out as a possibility!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Jowsh_EPC,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
The first thing I would like to do, is thank you for the in-depth detail of your post with all of the information provided.
You are correct,  in your thought line of the issue being hardware. I would also be looking towards a critical failure with the motherboard, based on the troubleshooting you've already tried.
Unfortunately, the only option for this would be replacing the board or contacting support to see what replacement options are available to you. I do apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you.

  • No Sound After iTunes 7.3.1 Update

I updated to 7.3.1 yesterday. Now I have no sound when I play music files. Here's the symtoms:
    1. Music tracks play in iTunes, but no sound. No sound on internal speakers or remotely through Airtunes.
    2. TV shows (and videos) play with sound.
    3. Sound works in all other applications, including Quicktime.
    4. I have made sure to deselect audio enhancer in iTunes.
Any help? Anyone have a similar problem?
This is a big deal to me. I think it's fair to say that I don't have a hardware problem since all other programs are able to use audio. Also, it is interesting that Quicktime can get audio from the same track from an iTunes library.

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • Keys (MJU) are not working after repair

    Hello,
I've sent my MBP early 2011 for motherboard replacement, as affected model.
After repair service inform me some keys are not working anymore (MJU), thay asked me 290 euros for repair
What should I do? Anyone else had the same problem?

I never managed to get the keys to work again, but maybe I haven't been holding them long enough.
I have read somewhere that Apple ask for more than 300€ (USD 400) to change the keyboard, so I am considering opening myself my Crapple Crapbook Pro and change it myself.
I am quite ****** actually. A keyboard shouldn't die like this with no reason less than 3 years later. My Powerbook G4 that I used a lot much more than the Macbook is still working fine.

  • Loss of sound after waking up from sleep

I am currently using OS X 10.8.5 (12F37).  After upgrading iTunes to 11.1 (126)  I lose sound after the computer wakes up from sleep.  This was not a problem prior to the iTunes upgrade.  The only way to correct the problem is to restart or shut down then restart the computer.  Are there any other solutions to this event?

This is not just a Mac Mini problem.  I've found comments from people with all kinds of Mac, with any kind of external sound device, who all have this same issue.
The common factor is Mountain Lion.
Apparently there is a new build (12F42) which is supposed to fix this.
    http://www.gadgetguide4u.com/new-os-x-1085-build-number-12f42.html
Apple released it to their employees on the 25th Sept.
Yet they don't even seem to have told their support people about it.  My local apple store replaced my Mac Mini just on Sunday, because they didn't know why it was behaving like that.  Needless to say, the new one has the same problem.
Here's hoping that build is available soon ...

  • Losing sound after a few minutes

When using iChat for audio chats (or when using Skype), I lose sound after a few minutes. The person I'm talking too starts hearing the same thing in a repeating loop, and we have no cut off. At that point, it sometimes works to start a now voice chat, but sometimes it doesn't.
This seems to have started when I replaced an ailing snow ABS with a D-Link DSL-G604T wireless router. I've read a lot of posts here that talk about the need to turn on port forwarding, but that doesn't seem to be the problem - I can start talking, sometimes for as much as a half hour, but at some point the connection goes bad. (I thought it was just my iMac, so I tried my iBook with the same results. Then I thought it was my headset, so I tried my iSight - same thing happened.)
I'm convinced it has something to do with the router, but can't figure out exactly what's going on. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi Kirk,
Does the Buddy List close up and say it is Disconnected ?
Is the connection 1.6meg in both directions ?
What have you got System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming speed set to ?
Also how are you opening the ports in the D-Link ?
These pics suggest it has UPnP

  • No sound after quicktime 7.3.1

I just upgraded to 7.3.1. Upon completion I lost all sound through the quicktime player. Does not seem to matter what file either. I have tried .avi .mov and even .aiff. The player does everything else normally.
First thing I did was repair permissions. Which did not work.
Anyone got any suggestions?? Anyone else have this problem too?
    Thanks,
    Bear

  • Firefox crashes 2 seconds after startup. This happened after repair upgrade to Windows 7

After repair upgrade Firefox (9.0) would not work. I finally un-installed and re-installed it without success. Following your support guidelines I tried deleting my profile with partial success in that with a new profile Firefox would run once then revert back to an apparent crash after 2 seconds (as seen from task manager). After every new profile created it followed this same routine of working just the once. Any help would be appreciated.

Try a "clean reinstall" of Firefox by removing the Mozilla Firefox installation directory before reinstalling it, as explained in these articles:
*[[Basic Troubleshooting]] - see the "Reinstall Firefox" section [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_7-reinstall-firefox here].
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall (MozillaZine's KB article is currently unavailable)
If Firefox still crashes after a clean reinstall, try the suggestions in the [[Firefox crashes]] article [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes here] and, if possible, post a crash Report ID, as explained at the end of that article.

  • No sound after upgrading to Windows 7 M55-S3293

I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the drivers from Toshiba for my sound card and before installing checked the windows XP box under the compatibility tab.  No sound.  I did windows update for this driver and it installed an updated driver.  No sound.  I went to Realtek and installed the windows 7 generic driver for this sound card (thats all manufacturer's offer is a generic driver) and LOW sound.  Now I rebooted and back to No sound.
Before windows 7 sound, after no sound.
Toshiba put out a fix for a contextant audio driver for the low sound problem to be corrected with windows 7 but I cannot find anything for my computer.
I don't know know what to do!  I don't want to go back to using XP but sound is REALLY important.  I would think this is an integrated sound card (Toshiba isn't making service manuals public anymore, it was there the other day and gone today) so I cannot remove it.  I don't think I have any available PCI slots to install a new one internally and I don't want extrenal speakers since I do a lot of traveling.
Is there a fix I don't know about?  What can I do?  Please HELP!!!

    Hi Ryan,
    Go here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1671893&pf=true
and download the software called "Sound Utility to Turn Mute Off After Upgrading to Vista", it is made for people that upgrade to VISTA, however, once you have all your Toshiba updates installed by downloading the Toshiba updates, then apply this update to your Windows7 system and the problem will resolve.
I don't know why they did not make this update part of the Toshiba Update Package.
    I hope this helps,
    best,
    Alejandro

  • External Hard Drive Failures after iMac internal drive replaced

I was one of those lucky ppl who had to have my internal 1TB Seagate HDD replaced due to the recall. It was replaced on Friday.
After the drive was replaced (with another Seagate, ***?), I cloned my previous system back to the new drive (restoring from Time Machine required me to re-download Lion, which required me to re-download to a newer version of Snow Leopard, and just, Oi, vey, I used my clone).
I then had to create another bootcamp partition, and after that, I restored my previous bootcamp from an image backup with Winclone.
The next morning, my Time Machine external backup drive (a Maxtor OneTouch) makes horrible fluttering and crunching noises and cannot be found via disk utility, certainly doesn't mount to the desktop. I figure it just coincidentally failed and attached a new drive (a different OneTouch) for backup.
While Time Machine is performing an initial backup to this new drive (will take 10 hrs), I try to move a few media files to another external media drive (LaCie 1TB). I receive a couple of error -36s on a few particular files, so I figure I should wait for the Time Machine to backup and then diagnose the media drive.
The next morning (after 10 hr backup is finished), I have a stop-sign error that a disk was unmounted improperly (the LaCie media drive). The drive cannot be seen in disk utility or on a completely different MBP running Snow Leopard. It's spinning up, but it can't be read.
Only thing I can think to do is reinstall 10.8.2 over top the cloned system, make sure that the recovery partition was recreated and working.
This can't be a coinicidence, right? At this point, I'm afraid to keep my external storage drives and clone attached to the iMac, but I'm afraid to not have TM drive attached. Anyone know where to start diagnosing the problem?
    1. Could a new internal drive be the problem, hardware wise?
    2. Could the lack of an initial recovery partition or the setting up of a bootcamp partition have these sorts of consequences?
    3. Could the problem be from restoring a clone?

Well, it is a LaCie-packaged adapter, some version of that model. The hub is on the mac mini inspired line of LaCie HDs (http://www.lacie.com/company/news/news.htm?id=10269). I've had it for 6 yrs, and the hub is still going. Other drives have been running from the hub without issue for all that time (and still are). There is no hissing, and the display light indicates the hub is getting power.
You think it's time for a new hub?
The internal switchout is just a coincidence?
(Basically, I'm not a hardware expert. Does anyone know if an internal drive or internal sensor/connection problem can cause externals to fail or blowout a controller? I'm waiting on a drive dock to arrive—I'll know more whether these are HD failures or chip failures after that. Both drives showed normal-seeming power use via their display lights.)

  • I just took my I-Pod touch to a computer repair shop to replace cracked screen and now am told main part of I-Pod needs to be replaced.volume button no longer works, headphone and locking device also no longer working. Even though it all worked when given

I just took my I-Pod touch to a computer repair shop to replace a cracked screen. Told it need the main part to it. They said the volume button, headphone and locking part no longer worked. Told me to pick it up. When I gave it to them all components were working. Said because they weren't able to fix it there was no charge. Don't understand this.

Probably when you dropped, kicked, smashed, threw, or whatever you did to break your screen it also damaged the logic board and the connections to the volume button, headphone jack and sleep button. Happens all the time. Apparently the shop you selected to work on it is not very good so take them off your shopping list.
Then go buy a 5th Generation iPod Touch.
