No sound after updating to windows 8.1 on hp pavillion G6

I've recently installed windows 8.1 and now have no sound. The speaker icon in the bottom right corner has a small red x on it, when i have the mouse over it, it says 'no audio output device is installed'. I found advice somewhere that advised updating the driver in sounds via the at control panel but this the said:
'Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it
IDT HD Audio CODEC
A device attached to the system is not functioning'
Any ideas on what to do or how to fix it? I'm not very knowledgable with computers so i'd appeciate any advice in step by step form.

ITunes no longer loads after updating to Windows 8.1. I have tried every corrective step I've found on the web (reinstall, copy files, change permissions, etc.) nothing helps. Has anyone heard if Apple is working on fix?

Itunes does not launch after updating to Windows 8.1. I've tried every suggestion I can find on web (reinstall, copy files from other directories, change permissions, etc.). Nothing works. At best I can get the licensing agreement to show and then nothing. Has anyone heard if a fix is in the works?

I don't see anything specific to your webcam issue but there are a number of Windows 8.1 related drivers listed on the Support site.

You can refer to this blog, and try to roll back to the older version of network adapter driver to check the results. Other suggestions can also be used to troubleshoot your issue.

Meanwhile, please check with the manufacturer of your router to update the firmware.
If the issue persists, please help to collect following information for further research:
1) Enable RAS Tracing on the client.
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh ras set tracing * enabled
2) On the client enable the following log as well:
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh trace start scenario=netconnection capture=yes tracefile=c:\net.etl
3) Now, turn off Wireless adapter on the client and Turn it back ON for making it to authenticate. Once it fails to connect to the Wireless network, proceed to the next step.
4) Disable RAS Tracing on the client.
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh ras set tracing * disabled
5) On the client disable the following log as well:
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh trace stop
6) Please provide the following files:
From the Client:
a) ZIP folder of C:\Windows\Tracing
b) C:\Net.etl and C:\Net.cab
Upload these files in SkyDrive and post back the shared link.

occasionally my desktop become black for 1-2 seconds and the background disappears.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the card reader for your notebook is no longer working after updating to Windows 8.1.
You're probably right that it's a driver issue, however just like you I don't know which card reader you're using either.
Can you please tell me which notebook you have? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
It would also help if you could tell me the Hardware ID for the card reader. Here's how you find it:
Press Windows Key + X
Click Device Manager
Click View at the top and select Show hidden devices.
You will most likely find the card reader listed under Other devices as an Unknown device.
Right click on it and select Properties.
Select the Details tab.
Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids.
Note down the first ID in the list (as you'll see they're all pretty much the same regarding the Ven_ and Dev_ numbers which is all I need).
Once you've provided this info I should be able to find the drivers for you.

Hi I also have this problem. Sound was only working on the headphones and also on the volume slider in the settings app. Everywhere else I get no sound and no volume slider. Now the headphones don't work either.
(I'm using an ipad 2 iOS 6.1.2)
And NO it's not muted. I've reset all settings and restarted the iPad. Been searching forums for a couple days. Some say its a dirty docking port problem, others suggest a Skype or other app update that could be the problem.
No volume control icon appears when I press the volume control buttons. Only says sound effects, if it says anything at all. Most often there is NO volume icon. YouTube, video, music, and other game apps, no sound.

sorry it's not my apple id. it's my icloud email/account. after i updated to ios 8.1.2 my icloud acct on my phone is wrong. it's using my old college email address instead of my current icloud account email. my old college email address *used* to be my apple id, but i changed my apple id to my gmail account a few months back. anyway i can't "sign out" or delete the icloud account bc it thinks my college email address is my icloud account and it keeps asking for the password. so i'll type in the current password for my icloud account and it says it's wrong and i need to retry or change the password, which i've already done twice and nothing changes. probably bc its asking for the password associated with the college email address it thinks is my icloud acct.
i can access icloud on my desktop without a problem... make any sense? do i have to restore my phone now or is there a solution? i've wasted the last 2 days trying to figure this out. i can't send or receive emails on my iphone bc of this. which really ***** for work.

I understand that after doing the Windows 8.1 update you are not able to access your computer and you are inquiring as to how to unistall it. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which wil walk you through how to restore your computer back to a point in time before you ran the update. This will in essence reverse the update for you.
***This will not affect your personal files it will only restore your computer's operating system back to before the update.

I haw Lenovo ideapad s310 with Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter
driver version is (date 10/17/2013 / version 10.0.0.270 from atheros.cz)
After update my Windows 8 to 8.1 the wifi is turned off and i don't know haw it turn on.
Troubleshoot (Windows network diagnostic) says that rewriting is alright need to use switch on the front side of the computer or use function keys.
I don't haw any switch and the Fn+F5 don't helps. I tried to install new driver, metered connection is off.
I downloaded every update included hidden updates. in bios wifi is on.
Please help me!

Poor sound after updating to ISO 7

Poor sound after updating to ISO 7. Before updating i had terrific sound both on my music and videos I recorded with my cam, i had to turn it down. Now, after update, i put volym on Max and can hardly hear the music or whatever. Anyone else with same problem?

I also loved my iphone because it HAD great sound. Since the update of the iso7 for my iphone 4s, i am missing my calls because I cannot hear the phone ringing. The sound is so low even though I have it on the highest sound possible. The is something in the update that caused this problem among others such as the phone blinking out while I am viewing videos. Help Apple! THe battery is going from 100 percent to 20 percent in two hours even when I have almost turned off everything on my iphone. I need my sound back! I solved for my ipad mini retina:
- Go to Settings->General
- Change the function of the slider on the side of the ipad from 'rotation lock' to 'sound off'
- Wiggle the slider up and down
- Sound is restored
- You can set the slider back to rotation lock again

What did the F5 key do before? According to your manual in the Action Keys list (page 32-33), that key wasn't tied to anything unless its just for page refresh.
If a Windows update breaks something, the best way I know to correct the problem is to uninstall that update.
OR
You can revert Windows back to an earlier state before the update with a Restore Point provided you didn't turn off that feature. If for some reason it is turned off, you will not be able to revert to that point as one was not created.
After the restore, only install one windows update at a time until you find the culprit and uninstall it. This way you have the other updates installed. YES this can be a long process.
