No sound after upgrading video card on Pavilion Slimline?

Note: Solution follows this post.
I submit this due to the fact that I could not find a suitable resolution for this problem in these forums.  Hopefully someone else can receive some benefit from it.
I just upgraded my video card in my Pavilion Slimline to an PCI-E ATI 4650.  After the upgrade I get no sound whatsoever from the Realtek HD sound (onboard).  In checking the property sheet of the soundcard, I can see that the Realtek device is set to use HDMI output.  This is fine except for the fact that HDMI is not being used.  I am using the Analog plug on the rear of the soundcard.
Windows 7 x86
4G Ram
ASUS TV Tuner
ATI 4650 PCI-E Video

The resolution that worked for me is as follows:
1.) Open device manager and disable any other installed audio devices.  (For me this was the ATI HDMI audio device that is installed with the ATI Video Card and also the Audio device used by the ASUS TV Tuner I have)
2.) With only the Realtek Audio device enabled, reboot.  Be ready to press F10 to get into your BIOS setup options.
3.) Within your BIOS find the settings for your onboard Audio device.  Change that setting from "Auto" to "Enabled".  Save your changes and reboot.  (This step may or may not be necessary but is included here as a precautionary measure just in case.)
Upon reboot your sound should be working properly. (Mine was)
4.) Now go back into Device Manager/Audio properties and "Enable" the devices you disabled earlier.  Check to make sure sound is still working afterwards.  If all is still working, reboot and check it again just to be sure.

  • Can't restart after upgrading video card to a Radeon 9200

Hi All, I just purchased a Radeon 9200 AGP graphics card for my Quicksilver. I removed the old card which worked fine and installed the new card. As soon as I pushed the new card into the AGP slot the computer turned on and it started to start up. Then a rather load beep sound came through the speakers and the light on the front of the computer started to flash. I tried this a couple of times but it still will not start with the new card installed. Everything works fine with the original card.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forum!
Did you purchase a regular PC version ATI 9200 video card that was 'flashed' for Mac use? Or, is it just a PC version ATI 9200.
Either way, a regular PC version won't work in a Mac, even though it fit's the AGP slot. If it's a 'flashed' card from an Ebay Seller it sounds faulty, get a refund.
ATI only offered a Mac Edition 9200 as a PCI card, not AGP. There was an ATI 9000 Mac Edition in AGP.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • No display after upgrading video card

Please help. I have just purchased a HP Pavilion p62480ea desktop PC. This all worked fine out of the box.
I also purchased a Geforece GTX 650 Ti graphics card - when I put this in I'm getting no signal on my monitor - using HDMi and DVI cables.
When I take the graphics card out and go back to the GPU on the motherboard everything works fine.
I've read that going into the BIOS and turning off delete/uninstall the video driver in device manager>>>turn off computer>>>install the graphics card - has worked for others.
I've tried going into the BIOS but I'm getting no signal when I restart this way.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi:
On these new W8 PC's you need to change some BIOS settings when you install an aftermarket video card.
Please read the info at the link below and hopefully that will get you out of your dilemma.

And yes, you should always go into the device manager first, and uninstall the current graphics adapter/drivers before installing a new video card.

  • Upgrade video card for compaq S6000CL

How can I upgrade my video card on my compaq S6000CL?  I have vista installed (upgrade).  I'd like to download the upgraded video card software and not have to replace the whole video card.
    Thanks!

    Hi pilot3579,
So, in looking at the specifications for your computer (Compaq Presario S6000CL Desktop PC support), it appears you might have to get a video card in order to enhance your graphics. Your computer came with integrated graphics, and though there is one video driver available on your computer, it can only be downloaded with the originally installed Windows XP operating system still in place. I know that's not exactly what you wanted to hear, but that is the situation you are looking at.

  • Upgrade video card for Late 2005 PowerMac G5

I am looking for an upgrade video card for a Late 2005 PowerMac G5, which has the PCI-Express slots. I need at least 256 MB of VRAM.
Since this computer is a discontinued model, there doesn't seem to be too many options for video cards. I've seen some cards like the NVidia 6600 or 6800, or even ATI's X800, but they appear to be difficult to find.
The one card that is readily available still is the ATI X1900, which looks great, but a little on the pricey side ($349).
I did notice the NVidia 7300 GT, which is more moderately priced ($145), but it only mentions being an upgrade card for the Mac Pro. Will this also work with the PowerMac G5 (Late 2005) model? I would hate to buy this video card and then find out that it won't work.

The only available upgrade card for the Late 2005 G5s is the X1900GT (aka G5 Edition). It's basically on par with the nVidia 7800GT that was available as a BTO option.
You can get the 7800GT and QuadroFX 4500 as replacement parts, but they're exorbitantly priced.
The Mac Pro cards won't work (even though they're also PCI-Express) due to the ROM on the card. It's only setup to work with the Mac Pro's EFI boot system and doesn't have the necessary code to work with the PowerMac's Open Firmware boot system.

  • So im about to buy a mac pro, I just need help cause im not sure if it's worth paying more for instance, a hi-res screen compared to the stock screen, and will i really miss the .2 ghz and the upgraded video card if I get the 2.0 ghz mbp?

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/05/23/glossy-vs-matte-screens-why-the-pc-indus trys-out-of-touch/
    Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future.

  • No sound after upgrading

I keep losing the sound after upgrading to OS7 on my 16g 4GS. It comes and goes with no identifiable pattern.

According to your motherboard specification you have Integrated AC97' Realtek ALC658C 6-channel audio.
Try installing the Vista driver directly from Realtek:

  • Beep app stopped making sound after upgrade to 2.6.22 kernel

hi, beep app stopped making sound after upgrade to 2.6.22 kernel Jul 29 2007; my PC still beeps on reboot; i searched for the beep package at arch home page and found
the beep package maintainer's name: Damir Perisa    how do i contact him if there are no other fixes for beep no longer making any sound? thanks in advance for your quick
response; resident, a happy arch user

Check if the PC speaker kernel module is present:
    lsmod | grep pcspkr
If that returns nothing, then check /etc/rc.conf for these line:
    MOD_BLACKLIST=(foo)
    MODULES=(bar pcspkr)
MOD_BLACKLIST must NOT contain pcspkr, while adding it to MODULES should autoload it on boot.
If you want it to load right now, then just enter:
    modprobe pcspkr

  • [DOUBT] Upgrading video card on S5-1414 Slimline

Hi  I have a doubt regarding the installation of a 1GB GT 530 video card on a Slimline s5-1414 PC on its original case.  I haven't acquired the video card yet, but i already did some research about the compatibility and everything seems to be just OK, the desired video card runs on a PCI-express x16 slot which this motherboard already has (2.0 version) and the power supply (220w) seems to be enough for it to run.  I don't have much experience on this and the only doubt i still have is about the case/bay size, because i don't know if the video card is going to fit on it. The card features a VGA Port, a DVI Port and a HDMI Port all along its lenght, but the bay ive got is maybe about 2 inches lenght.  Here is a picture of the  desired video card bay:http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-530-oem/product-images  And this is my case:http://cnet4.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2011/07/18/960fd710-67c3-11e3-a665-14feb5ca9861/thumbnail/770x433/144a2c61e52662888c08e62ba9972941/34719889_BK.JPG  So, are there different ways to install it so it fits? Or is it just going to fit right away? Should i look for another video card option?  Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Post the HP documentation that shows that a SSD will work when plugged into the mini-pcie port.  If not, then remove the SSD from the mini-pcie port.
Remove the video card and boot up.  If your PC boots OK then open up the RUN window and enter: MSINFO32
