No sound after Windows XP reinstall

# Hello Everyone,
I reinstalled Windows XP and now my sound isn't working. I have all the drivers installed, the card is acti've and shows as working in the Device Manager. When I start the computer, I get the Windows sound when Windows loads, at least the first couple of seconds of it, then it stops and no more sound. Any help will be appreciated.

' Rognarok,
. In Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, Audio tab, is your Soundblaster selected as the default Recording and Playback device? Also, you may want to place a check in the box next to "Use only default devices."
2. In Control Panel, Administrati've Tools, click on Services. Make sure Windows Audio is started and set to Automatic.

  • No sound after windows 8.1 Lenovo U410 touch

    Hi guys
I recently updated to windows 8.1, and after the install, my sound did not work. I then when to support, and downloaded and installed the latest sound driver, which worked! For a few minutes...
After i restarted my computer, the sound was gone again, and now it does not work at all.
    Any suggestions?
My whole experince of windows 8.1 have been very bad. My touchpad is buggy, the sound does not work, and my computer in general seems slower, and like it is working on 100% CPU all the time :-s

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First, never click on the link the troll below posted.  Second, the issue is a driver issue which could have easily been resolved by Lenovo but they didn't.  Third, here is how I fixed it:
    open control panel
    go to Device Manage
within Device Manager open Sound, video, and game controllers
uninstall everything there (right click uninstall)
reboot and Windows will reinstall those drivers and you should have audio after that
Thanks Lenovo for not posting a fix.

  • Lack of sound after Window 7 (64) installation into iMac OX 10.6.7. Tried to install driver from Snow Lepard disc (Cirrus 64).Wizard installed driver. No sound, Device Manager indicated that "driver is not installed" but also that the"device is working"

I don't know how to proceed. I didn't have sound after installing Windows 7 inot iMac OX 10.6.7 (64bit) After unsuccessful attempt to upgrade the driver from the BootCamp  file, I deleted the driver from the Sound and Game controlled hoping that I would allow me to automatically install the correct driver from Boot camp.
Now the Sound Video Game controller disappeared from the Device Manager
How can I find out which is the correct sound driver for my computer (The Speaker Properties only say:WIndows)?
How can I install it without seing the Sound and Game controller in the Device Manager?

When you say "manually download", you mean from the BootCamp File on Snow Leopard, or from the Internet.
My additional problem is that the "Sound and Video Game Controller" disappeared from the Device Manager when I removed the previous driver. I don't find the place where I can reistall the new driver.

    Hi buddy,
Have you already checked the Toshiba website itself?

I found a sound driver for Vista 32bit and the most Vista drivers also work on Windows 7 so its worth a try!!! :)

  • Recover iTunes after Windows XP reinstall

I apologize if this has already been answered a number of times.  I have spent some time already searching for an answer.
My desktop computer's internal hard drive required a Windows XP SP3 reinstall, and thus reformat.  I have a copy of the My Music\iTunes folder on an external hard drive (the music media is inside that folder as well).  When I downloaded and reinstalled iTunes on my newly restored computer, it of course came in fresh and blank.  Because I still don't have a firm grasp of all the syncing rules and scenarios, I thought that connecting my iPad 3 and iPod Touch 3 to iTunes would restore everything contained on those devices into iTunes, but it did not.
To complicate matters, when Windows was reinstalled, a different username was created by accident.  So the absolute file paths in, for example, the XML library in my backup of iTunes on my external drive show a different path (if that makes a difference, and thus reflects what may also be in the database itself).  So I created a new user account on my machine with that same username, so the file paths match.  I then copied the iTunes from the external drive into the My Music folder under that new user account.  So I figured everything was good to go.  I then logged out and logged back in under the new user account, and launched iTunes.  But it went through the launching sequence as a brand new installation of iTunes under this user account, and came up empty.
How do I get myself back to where I was before Windows crashed on me.  I have a few dozen ripped albums and some purchased music on my iPod and iPad, a few apps on my iPod and a ton of purchased (and free) apps on my iPad.  So we're not just talking about music.
I appreciate any help anyone can give.  Thanks so much.
    Gary

"The devices see the reformatted drive as a different computer and that is the default warning when you attempt to sync to another computer."
True in the general case, when two computers are running iTunes with different libraries - in this case any iDevice can be synced with only one, and will present the "... is synched with another iTunes library ... Do you want to erase ...?" message if connected to a different one.  However, that behavior isn't because a different computer is detected - if an iTunes library is replicated from one PC to another (i.e., the iTunes database, media, and associated files are duplicated) then these will be seen as the same library for the purposes of synchronization.  Although the internals of the iTunes database can't readily be accessed, its reasonable to assume that this "library identity" is based on this data element, as listed within the iTunes Library.xml file:
Interestingly, this "Library Persistent ID" value is also used as the name of the first-level subfolder under iTunes\Album Artwork\Cache.  The basis of the iDevice-library dependence is - even if this is not the (only) way its implemented - definitely not hardware based. I run three different systems with iTunes, where the library is routinely replicated from the "master" to two secondary systems (using SyncToy and an external HDD):
With this configuration, I can connect an iDevice to any of the three systems and sync it as normal, without ever seeing the "... is synched with another iTunes library ... Do you want to erase ...?" message.
Given the scenario that the OP described, the iTunes Library.itl file now in use is, logically, the same as that before the export/reformat/restore operations - so the dreaded Do you want to erase ...? message shouldn't appear.

  • HDMI Only sound option after windows 7 reinstall

My windows 7 install became corrupt in some way and would not let me install, so I reinstalled it. I downloaded all the drivers and windows updates that I have the several other times I've reinstalled windows. Since the reinstall, the only audio device thats been available is the HDMI output. It is the only option in the sound section of the control panel. Everything is hooked up properly and I have tried several different drivers. I have a 5.1 surround system hooked up.
My computer is the Hp Pavilion m8100y. The only driver available for this computer on the HP website is a lightscribe update, no sound drivers, or anything else for that matter. I tried drivers from several other sites but they either didn't work, said they weren't compatible with this version of windows, or that they were not compatable with the hardware. The sound worked perfectly until the reinstall.

I had already tried that one twice, and just did again. HDMI is stil the only option. When I look at the list of hardware on my computer, theres 2 High Definition Audio Controllers, 4 NVIDIA High Definition Audio (which I assume come from my gfx card), and the Realtek High Definition Audio. I don't now if this information helps at all, but those are the various audio devices my computer says are installed, and they all say working properly and that their drivers are up to date.
I had the windows 8 consumer preview installed on a different HDD, and up until windows 7 was finished installing on this one, the audio continued to work on windows 8. Since it finished installing, I also have not been able to access the HDD with windows 8 through windows explorer (it just doesn't show up) and when I try to boot it from the BIOS boot menu, it just loads this HDD with windows 7.

  • [Solved] No Sound after Windows 8.1 Update

I have an MSI GE70 and after updating to Windows 8.1 I can not get sound from any source.
I have tried updating drivers through windows automatic system and then through the MSI website. However no change.
Any ideas how to restore sound, without having to entirely reinstall Windows 8 and avoid updating to Windows 8.1?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I've resolved the issue for me. Instead of installing the drivers from MEI website. I got them from here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035939
Whether there is any long term effects of installing the sound drivers from a different company remains to be seen, but I have got my sound back. Hope this may help others who may experience the same issues.
    Thanks for help,
    Richard

  • No headphone sound after Windows 7 clean installation

    Hello.
I recently performed a clean installation of Windows 7 Home Premium. Before that on preinstalled Windows the problem described below did not show up, sound worked just great.
Now I don't have sound when inserting my headphones in jack (built-in speakers work fine however). Windows reports that sound works, no problems found, but I hear nothing. On the same computer I have also Linux installed and the same headphones work well there in the same jack.
When I put my headphones in, Realtek Manager makes notification that the device is plugged in.
My model is Qosmio X775-3DV78. What I have tried so far:
    1) Reinstalling, updating, removing, trying different versions of Realtek HD Audio driver.
    2) Changing every possible setting in Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    3) Trying different headphones - same result: nothing.
    4) Changing settings in Playback Devices.
Since it worked before reinstalling Windows and since it works on Linux on the same computer, there is definitely something wrong with my drivers. Could you please provide information as to what drivers exactly I should have installed to make sound work correctly? Maybe some motherboard driver is missing (though I installed everything important I could find on Toshiba site).
Attached are some important screenshots. Please note that there are 2 unknown devices in my Device Manager and also USB Controller driver has problems, though I do not think it has any connection with the problem.
    * On both Playback Devices forms Disabled Devices and Disconnected Devices are shown.
    Thanks!
UPDATE: One of "Unknown devices" proved to be Toshiba HDD Shock Sensor driver and another one is ACPI\TOS6205.

I have just done the same upgrade to Windows7 and I have no sound from the headphone jack. Also when I plug into it, I don't get the old Realtek Audio evaluation screen for audio setup.
However I do not use headphones, as I have been using a RCA jack to plug from the headphones output jack to
a portilble shortwave radio that I have utilized the 6 inch woofer for the past three years since buying the laptop new, for better output and base sound from the radio speaker while simultaneously running the stereo built-in speakers on the laptop.
Can someone tell me that I should just update the laptop audio card by re-installing the original Realtek Audio Driver? Is that easily accessible here in the official Toshiba site? Also if possible, please inform me of other driver updates that would most likely need re-installation processes after this Windows 7 update.
    Thank you for any info,

  • No sound after Windows 10 free upgrade from WIN7 on G71-340US laptop with IDT CODEC.

After free upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10 my laptop no longer has any sound (with internal or external speakers). I have tried uninstalling IDT driver and allowing Windows 10 to reinstall the driver through scan for HW changes - still no sound. I would appreciate any guidance or fixes for this problem. Thank you.

I am happy to report I now have sound on my G71-340US laptop. After further trial and error troubleshooting I found that there is an app called IDT PC Audio (aka IDT HD Sound) installed on my laptop by HP (OEM) I think. While I'm not exactly sure what this app's function is it appears it is related to activating IDT HD Codec drivers functionality. Somehow I decided to look in Task Manager - Startup and saw this IDT PC Audio listed. I clicked on disable and then a minute later clicked on enable. After I did that, as simple as it appears, I now was able to hear sound both on internal and external speakers. This is the first time I heard any sound since upgrading to WIN10. I have checked it several times by re-booting my laptop and each and every time I now have sound. I'll continue to test this through the week and see if it continues to be OK. Meanwhile, I thought I would share this potential fix (or workaround) with all concerned. Perhaps others will find this useful and provide me your feedback. Keeping my fingers crossed! PS. BTW, if anyone out there knows what IDT PC Audio is by all means share your knowledge. I am curious why this app doesn't appear more often in the forum posts and how it may relate to the WIN10 upgrade. Sorry, but I don't recall what prompted me to look at Task Manager - Startup but I'm glad I did. It's great to hear sound again!

I have purchased a T61 in December 2007. The sound has always been low and now i have no sound at all.  I cannot hear files locally or on the Net -- or any of the computer sounds.

  • Satellite A200-20H - No sound after Windows 7 installation

    Hey Guys.
I have just bought this computer from a mate, and I have decided to install Windows 7 on the machine. Everything seemed to work brilliant, until I wanted to try and play some sound. There is no sound what so ever on the laptop, all the sliders are at max, I have tried pushing FN+ESC whit no difference. I have tried reinstalling and updating soundcard driver, no luck either.
I found a "soloution" which said I should install Value Added package, and then run an app, which should unmute the PC, no luck there either..
So I am starting to run out of ideas?
So I am hopeing one of you clever guys in here has a soloution.
If you need any info from the computer, just ask for them and i will reply whit them as soon as possible.
    Big thanks in advance

  • No sound after Windows 8 update on HP Pavilion G6

    Hi,
After updating Windows8 to 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G6-2235TX laptop i have no sound.
I have followed instructions posted on this forum and had no luck getting the sound to work.
I have tried updating to a couple of different drivers SP59649 & SP58517
Can anyone help with the correct driver that will work for my model laptop
    Thanks

    Hello gardied63,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that after updating to Windows 8.1 you don't have any sound and have tried to get it working. I will try to help you with this.
The link to the driver update for your sound can be located here: IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver. You will notice that it's a file that you've already tried. However, this is the correct driver for your Notebook.
What you can also do is follow this document: No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8). Read over it carefully and try everything suggested as something here may help in correcting the issue you have.
Please let me know how this goes, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Occasional soft sound after Windows 8.1 update

    Hi,
I have a strange problem. I updated to Windows 8.1 about two weeks ago. For about a week now I have noticed that occasionally my sound drops. I usually watch shows or something on say 20 volume. The sound suddenly drops and I have to turn it all the way up to 100 to get the same volume as on 20. I reboot my PC (which takes quite long now. seems I should have not updated as it came with a lot of bugs...)  I did not make any changes myself and did not install new sound drivers.
Also, my charm bar stops working so that also takes a reboot to fix....
    I am running Windows 8.4 64-Bit on an HP Envy 15 j063ei.
Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it? I am hoping there is a way to fix it that does not help refreshing my Windows because I really do not want to install all my apps and games again. I already had to do that once before.

    HI Gan_Javi,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 15-j063ei Notebook and issues after an update. You might need to check for updates from Windows. Here is how to do that.
Click the Windows key and type change PC settings, and click Update and recovery.
click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates. You can also do this from the HP site under Detect my product click on the Find now button. If updates are found, click Install updates. To make sure all updates are completed restart your computer twice.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Tecra 9100 - Loss of sound after Windows Update.

I have just got hold of a 9100 second hand, and have been re-installing XP Pro. I have been going well, and had all but the SD Card working after downloading all the relevant drivers off Toshiba's site.
Micorsofts update site decided to download new drivers for the Yamaha sound card, and now it says NO Device.
I re-installed the drivers from the toshiba site, but despite everything I do it still shows no device.
Ive tried re-installing the Synth software as well, but this says I need to run the synth re-installer. But there is no directory on the drive for anything Yamaha, and no entry in the add/remove window for yamaha synth or on the start menu.
I am at a loss where to go next, short of starting yet again, and re-installing from the OS up, and thats a good days work.
Does a clean up utility exist so I can just do the sound card part again?
    Help Please. :-(

No sound? The only solution I've found is to get a USB headset like the Logitech USB Headset 20. I have had this same problem with my Tecra 9100 for almost 6 months. I tried on a pair of USB Headset and it works! because it bypasses your internal soundcard. The downside is that if you have a great pair of speakers on your laptop, then it's kind of a waste that you can never use it. But at least, with this, you can now listen to CDs and chat on the internet

  • Satellite P35-S6112 - No sound after Windows 7 installation

I installed Windows 7 on this Satellite P35-S6112 with a Realtek AC97 sound card in it. The card and drivers are working but there is no volume. I can hear sound with a headset very faint. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, attempted update but I have the current drivers installed.
Troubleshooting has been done and system reports no issues. I am in desparate need of help here as my daughter needs this for her college as her other notebook is in the shop. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I have checked US support page and this old notebook is not supported for WIN7 so Im glad to hear you have installed Win7 successfully.
If the sound card driver is installed properly I dont understand what do you mean with there is no volume. Can you use speakers symbol in task bar and change speakers sound level?
Click also on speakers symbol and open Playback devices. Can you set Speakers to be default device?
Which OS have you used before Win7 installation? Have you noticed the same problem?
