No sound alert for incoming emails

I lost  sound alerts for the incoming email messages into my yahoo mail  inbox since I upgraded to Mountain lion. I even made rule to play sound it but doesn't work!!! I have all the setting on. Apple please fix since this problem arose with Mountain Lion upgradation.
On the other hand any communication done through the apple mail app doesn't save send items automatically. Apple email is poorly desigend and needs to be redesign or eliminated  completely.

Thanks. I just talked to apple rep and we figured out that in system preference>sound effect> output volume, I had mute option checked which happened during upgradation to Mountain lion.  iI unchecked mute and now sound alert works. However the sent items are not being synchronized with web based yahoo email sent items.

Long and short of it, the settings can be individually changed under Notifications. Select Mail and then the account you want to change the sound to.

  • Setting different sound alerts for specific email accounts?

With the new Mail alert settings in IOS 5, it there a way to dedicate a specific New Mail sound alert to individual email accounts?
I use my iPhone for both work and personal email and I'd like know when certain accounts get new mail so I don't have to keep constantly checking all accounts to find out which one was updated.
    Thanks

This has been my bane for years with the iPhone. Unfortunately, despite the innovations of iOS5 and the 4s and despite the promises of the engineers and techs, as well as the hype and rumors, once again this simple and important feature, to my understanding, has been left out.
This is frustrating at best. I have 11 email accounts and run 3 business from my phone. I am on the road constantly, this needs to be fixed immediately. Until it is addressed many people like myself are stuck using the inferior blackberry. I hate the blackberry and long for the iPhone but can't and will not move to the iPhone if it means that important emails are missed or that I'm constantly checking the phone for email. With an email volume of 100+ messages dailyboth personal and business I don't need to spend my life or time checking the phone to figure out what is being sent to what account.
The solutions thus far have been to jailbreak the phone (don't recommend nor will I do this) or to download an app. Unfortunately the apps that will provide this feature, all require that the email be sent to a 3rd party (try and explaining that to corporate)

  • Sound Alert for Incoming Mail Not Working

I have searched for a solution to above but not found any. All settings are correct in Mail Preferences and Sound Preferences but the lack of a sound alert when mail arrives still persists.
This problem exists on all three Macs - 15' MBP, 24 iMac and 27" iMac - how weird is that?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Joe

Joe, go to Mail --> Preferences --> Accounts. Now do this in each account affected - click Advanced and uncheck "Use IDLE command if the server supports it".
Now send yourself some test messages. You should now hear the new mail chime. Let us know if this resolves your issue. Cheers!

  • Is it possible to turn off the sound and just vibrate for incoming email?

Is it possible to turn off the sound on my Verizon iPhone 4 and just have it vibrate for incoming email. Can't seem to find any way to do this!

You could either flip the mute switch or go to Settings > Sounds > New Mail = Off

  • How can i set up different rings/tones for incoming emails for different email accounts?

HI, I would like to be able to hear different rings/tones for emails coming from different email accounts. Eg, One sound for incoming email from gmail and another sound for incoming e-mail from Yahoo.
    Thanks!

" Is there a possibility to set up different ringtones for each of the emails separately? "
No.  Maybe with ios 6 this fall.
"Also would there also be an option for high priority emails to have a different ringtone as well?"
No.  Maybe with ios 6 this fall.

  • No ringtone for incoming email

I have a ringtone set for incoming email but it doesn't activate when an email has come in. What am I doing wrong?

If you are truly attempting to use a ringtone for a text message notification then the problem is that ringtones are 30 sec in length.  Text tone notifications are six seconds long.  Try using one of the text tones for the email sound in settings/sounds/new email and see if that makes a difference

  • Different mail alerts for each email account

Just got the new Verizon iPhone. Used BlackBerry for years. One feature of the BB that I think is missing from the iPhone is the ability to set different mail alerts for each email account. For instance, I would like to turn off alerts for my corporate Exchange account (for which I get 100 emails a day), but receive alerts for my Comcast and Gmail accounts.
Am I correct that there is only one on or off feature for the iPhone for all accounts?

That turns the account off for receiving mail as you provided, which I'm fairly certain the OP is not interested in.
The OP wants to be able to turn the new mail alert sound off for one account while leaving it on for another account while all accounts are still checked for new messages.
For instance, I would like to turn off alerts for my corporate Exchange account (for which I get 100 emails a day), but receive alerts for my Comcast and Gmail accounts.

  • Why can't I get sound notification for my email anymore?

I am no longer able to get sound notification for send or receive email nor can I get sound notification for incoming phone calls.  What happened and is there a correction?

Before doing anything else, is your ringer switch in silent mode?  I'd try toggling the switch a few times to make sure it's working.  The phone should vibrate when you move the switch from on to silent.  If it doesn't then the switch may be broken.
Next make sure the volume for notifications is not off.  Check the Sound settings for this.  Changing the volume there should also cause your (phone) ringtone to play.  If it doesn't then there is something very wrong.
The only other thing I can suggest if the above doesn't help is doing a hard reset of the phone.  Hold power and home buttons down until screen goes dark and Apple icon appears, then let go.
If that doesn't work, then the only other thing you can try is doing a Backup and then a Restore in iTunes.  If that doesn't work, then there's a hardware problem.

  • I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!
