Forgot how to check if the modules were loading but i did check at some point from a wiki i read and all were loaded. the only weird thing is that in alsomixer when i f6 and choose hdmi there are no settings just spdif also setup hdmi in alsaconf
When i set the default divice in asound.conf it no longer shows up in sound manager after reboot but it still shows no errors when i test it in terminal.

  • My Thunderbolt to HDMI connection isn't working anymore.

I've had my MacBook Pro for about a year now (2.4 GHz i5), and I've been using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to connect to my Sharp 32" LCD with no problems since I bought it...until this week when I updated all my software/OS.  Now, I can connect, the displays prefs see the monitor, but all I get is black.  No sound either...even though the sound prefs recognize the HDMI connection.
I know the problem isn't the cable.  It used to work, and it still actually connects this same laptop to my projector...but it won't display on my TV anymore. I even get sound on my projector.  It works like my TV used to.  The problem started with the update, so I want to know what changed...and when Apple plans on fixing it.  These are not cheap computers...I am kind of embarassed that I have to use my gf's $350 Acer to play Netflix on our TV when I have this multimedia monster gathering dust.
This problem is extremely frustrating, and I've been doing some research on it.  It seems like quite the problem for a lot of people!  There are multiple unresolved discussions on here about it (some of them over 40 pages long!) and I can't really believe Apple isn't dealing with this.  It's been years now since this started happening, I guess.
We're mac users...we need multiple displays, and we need this stuff to keep working when we update!  That's why we've made Apple into the richest corporation in the world.  Step up superstars...fix this!
Again (just to be clear) I know the problem isn't the cable, so don't tell me to go get a different one, or that it's the issue.  Me and my gf basically wore out Netflix with this very laptop and cable up until this week, and I've never had an issue with it..ever, until this update (to OS 10.7.5).  Everything is in good shape, and if the laptop/computer is still feeding to my projector just fine...there's something else going on here, and I think a lot of people would love to know what it is.  I am not the only person this is happening to, and it's been years since people have been begging Apple to fix this!
I hope that Apple looks into this and puts these discussions to rest.  There are a lot of them!  Do a search!  The "More Like This" box on the right here is FULL of very similar UNRESOLVED discussions.  This should be a priority.  You've all made enough money off us...now make your stuff work like it's supposed to and close these threads!

No, I am a media professional who uses his MacBook Pro to connect to external monitors, and needs to continue to do so.  I don't want Apple TV.  I want my laptop to work again, like it's supposed to.  Like it used to.
I have a demonstration this week at work that requires me to plug into an LCD screen and I am hoping to have this resolved by then.  I am trying to convince my department to buy a Retina Mac and thousands of dollars worth of video software for live shows, and if I can't make it work, then I can't exactly convince them (or myself) to buy what I have been researching.
Again, I don't want wireless video or Apple TV.  I don't want to buy any more stuff.  I want to know why my Thunderbolt to HDMI cable stopped working after my update, and how to fix it...preferably before this meeting.

  • Where can i get an hdmi driver so i can get sound in my tv when connected to my hp pavilion dv6

where can i get an hdmi driver so i can get sound in my tv when connected to my hp pavilion dv6

    Hi,
HDMI sound is actually comes with the video card. DV6 is a reries of dozens if not hundreds of models, which one is yours ? Please use the following steps to check and fix:
General Instructions for Setting Up HDMI Audio
    Preliminary steps:
    1. Plug the laptop into a power source. Some of the models have a power management scheme that will not allow for HDMI audio while running on batteries. Later, after you get your HDMI audio working, if you find that it still does not work on batteries you can change your power management settings in the Control Panel.
    2. HDMI has its own audio driver separate from the audio system of the computer ( Sigmatel, IDT, or Realtek ) . It is incorporated into the graphics card's driver so make sure you have the newest version of your graphics card driver. On models with Intel graphics the HDMI audio driver will appear in the Device Manager as "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus".
    3. Turn off the computer and TV before connecting the HDMI cable. Later, after you get your HDMI audio working, if you disconnect the cable while the computer is running and lose your audio, try closing and then re-opening whichever program you were using that generates audio.
    4. Every time you try a different solution you should reboot the computer. HDMI audio is extremely finicky and seems to usually need a reboot.
    Make the Connection:
    1. Connect the HDMI cable to the computer and TV. If the TV has a "DVI/HDMI" port do not use it. Use a port for HDMI only.
    2. Turn on the TV and select the HDMI port you are using. Adjust the TV settings to receive HDMI audio if any.
    3. Turn on the computer. (Optional, some people close the laptop lid immediately after hitting the power button but I am not sure why. Most people should not need to do this.)
    4. Optional. Some models do better if the TV is set to be the primary display. To set, repeatedly press Fn+F8 (or ctrl+alt+F4) to cycle through the settings (laptop display only/laptop display plus external display/external display only). Reboot the laptop.
    5. Go to Start>Control Panel>Sound>Playback tab. Make "HDMI" the default device. (If "HDMI" is not there, right click in the white area and look under "Show Disconnected Devices" or "Show Disabled Devices" and see if it is there.)
    Post Connection Problems:
    1. If there is still no option to select "HDMI' as the default audio playback device, try re-installing or updating the graphics driver, or even try an older version. The graphics driver is the driver for HDMI audio, not the regular audio driver. A few people with Intel graphics had better results by uninstalling the graphics driver, rebooting, and letting Windows look for a driver (instead of downloading the driver from the Dell support site).
    2. Try disconnecting and then reconnecting the HDMI cable.
    3. If you are using Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center but get no HDMI audio even after it is selected as the default playback device, go to
Control Panel>Sound>Playback tab>Audio/Playback device>HDMI>properties>Advance>Exclusive Mode and uncheck "exclusive mode".
    4. Try a different HDMI cable.
    5. Try a different HDMI port on the TV.

What kind of mac would I need for Nexflix, basic search and email? Also, sounds silly, but can I connect an HDMI from Mac to tv?

Just an FYI.  The Macs named PowerMac date from early 2006 and before.  Use this tip to discover where to post once you get your Mac:
Site map of Communities and Categories
The cheapest Mac available new is a Mac Mini.   It is no bigger than many an external hard drive.  But the screen and keyboard and mouse must be purchased separately.  They support USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and pretty much any DVI, HDMI, or displayport display.   Although the iMac is certainly an attractive option if all you want to deal with is deciding on a printer.   I still recommend getting an Apple USB keyboard for the occasional times you may need to troubleshoot startup issues.  Normally not a problem, but as it gets older some issues can be fixed at startup or diagnosed at startup.

    Hi Winston,
I have Apple TV on - in the lower right corner of the iTunes - if it is this you mean.
I have also - in system settings - under Sound - marked Apple TV - and AirPlay.
Above this line is a programme called WiFi2HiFi.
    Can it make some disturbances?
Is it supposed to be there or have I faulty installed it myself?

  • No choice of sound output with lightning HDMI adapter connected.

When the lightning HDMI adapter is plugged in, sound is piped through HDMI but I want the option to have the sound come through the iPad speaker, because the mini projector I use has only a 1 Watt speaker built-in, and the iPad sound is louder.  Anyone figure out how to choose speaker output?

I don't believe that is possible.
Does the projector have an audio output jack to connect powered speakers?

  • Compaq 8510p HDMI connection to Plasma - no sound

I'm attempting to connect my Compaq 8510p to my Panasonic Plasma TV via HDMI cable and I'm getting video by no sound. I have rebooted the Laptop with the HDMI cable attached and that doesn't solve the problem.  I have a SoundMAX HD sound card and digital output is turned on.  Anyone have any ideas how to make this work?

After you hook up to the TV, go to Sound in the Control Panel.  You'll need to tell it to output your sound through the HDMI connection rather than your regular speakers through here.  I hope that helps!

  • Satellite A300-1OM - No sound on TV using HDMI

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1OM, and also a Toshiba HD TV with HDMI input ports.
I recently bought a HDMI to HDMI cable and attached the notebook to the tv and turned the tv to the HDMI channel, and the notebook confirmed this by making the 'new device attached' noise.
However, when I try to use Fn+F5 and output to the tv, nothing happens. When I choose to use the tv as an external monitor the tv shows the external screen, though only covers the centre of the tv, just slightly larger than my notebook screen, instead of being the full screen as i'd hoped. The sound also remained on the notebook instead of through my tv speakers.
I then tried the 'HDMI Output' software that came with the notebook, and only got the 'This is only effective when the PC is connected to a TV which supports HDMI Control through the HDMI cable' message.
Finally I tried the graphics options by right clicking on the desktop and choosing to output to monitor, then using graphics properties I managed to increase the resolution on the TV until it almost fit the entire screen, but not fully, and again the sound only came out of the notebook.
I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD as I had hoped.. I tried watching "Lost.S05E11.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU.mkv" once i'd finally output my notebook to the HD TV to an almost full screen size, but didn't recognise the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Can anybody help? I've read several other similar posts, i've checked BIOS and HDMI is enabled in the display section, but still can't resolve my problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    >I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD
    > didn't recognize the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Do you know what HD quality means?
The HD TV supports an max resolution of 1280 720 px and full HD means that the TV would be able to show the HD movies using the 1920 1080 resolution.
    A simple old TV supports a resolution of 768 x 576.
Every notebook screen is able to show the HD videos in HD quality because the display supports the same or higher resolution!!!
Therefore you will not notice any difference on notebook or HD TV playing HD quality videos!
Furthermore the sound is not coming through the TV speakers because you didnt choose the HDMI port as a default sound output (device).
Check this step by step instruction:
    Click Start
    Settings
    Control Panel
    Hardware and Sound
    Sound /Digital Output Device (HDMI)
    Click the Set Default Button

  • Laptop screen goes black when HDMI connected to TV

I have a Thinkpad Edge 431. I've set it up in Control Panel to duplicate both the laptop and the external monitor when connected by HDMI. It works fine.
When I connect it to my TV, the laptop screen black. The TV displays "No Signal" until the HDMI connection is made. When the laptop screen goes black, so does the TV screen. No sound or picture.
This was working fine until recently, and I can't figure out if I somehow changed settings to make this happen. It's clear that to me that the HDMI port on the laptop works, as does the cable.
The TV port works (I've switched the connection on the cable box to each HDMI port on the TV, to make sure they work).
I can't change anything in Control Panel when I connect the HDMI, because the screen is black.
    I've updated the Lenovo system.
The other relevant piece of info: the Intel Graphics Card control panel says that Monitor/TV Settings are not supported (although until recently, I could easily display the computer on the TV).
Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

  • Connect apple tv to stereo without optical or hdmi connection

Is there any way to connect apple tv to old model stereo amp without optical or hdmi connection inputs? Right now can only have itunes through tv speakers. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

    Newer MBPs have HDMI ports.
What ATV generation do you have? What MBP do you have (year/model)? ATVs support Airplay, so using the ATV as an Airplay sink and MBP as Airplay client is still possible.
There are display port-ot-HDMI adapters as well.
Alley_Cat has covered iTunes DRM content, but you can still play non-DRM content via Airplay and HDMI/Component (depending on ATV model).
MBPs  usually have a combo analog/Digital Optical connection that can be hooked up to  a stereo for sound.
