No Sound & Can't Install 64-Bit Vista on 2.33 GHz MBP

I have a 2.33 GHz C2D MacBook Pro. I have two problems. First is I just got Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 yesterday. I wanted to install the 64-Bit version, but when I boot up onto the 64-bit DVD, al I get is a screen that says:
"1.
2.
Choose a CD-ROM boot style"
or something along those lines. It doesn't let me put in anything and doesn't respond to any buttons. I thought that the C2D MBP was a 64-bit computer?
Second question: I was able to install the 32-bit version of Vista. I installed the drivers from the Leopard DVD and the Bootcamp 2.1 update, but now it says there are no audio output devices are installed. I would like to be able to use headphones or the speakers when I play games & whatever.

Actually, I believe the 2.33Ghz C2D late 06 MBPs are 64-bit processors. Actually, I know they are because I was able to install the new 64-bit only Java update. So I don't see why this would be a problem installing Vista 64-bit, unless it don't like the 64-bit C2D in the laptop.

    Excellent news.
That one can sometimes hit people if they've used the PC Mover utility to transfer a 32-bit iTunes program onto a 64-bit system. Similar issues can arise if a 32-bit Bonjour or 32-bit AMDS get transfered across to a 64-bit system by PC Mover, so it might pay to keep a weather eye out for that (if you've used PC Mover).

  • Can't install Itunes on vista

Can't install Itunes on vista keep getting a message "could not access network location $appdata$".  I tried installing quick time on its own which worked fine. Tried to remove Quicktime and get the same error as above. I have successfully installed Itunes on an XP and windows7 machine.... Any Ideas ....please

With that particular variety of 1606 (it's a 1606 error message even though the 1606 error message number isn't returned by the iTunes installer), the following Microsoft document is worth a try:
You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program

  • Can't install 64 Bit Windows 7 on 13" MBP???

Hello everyone! I'm trying to install 64 Bit Win 7 on my 13" MBP The version of the Bootcamp Assistant I am running (3.02) only allows for the 32 bit version to be installed. I am fully updated on my OSX updates, yet I see that I should be running Bootcamp 3.2 (not sure if "bootcamp" and "bootcamp assistant" are synonymous here).
I tried to find a 3.2 update (for bootcamp assistant) on the Bootcamp downloads page, and the only thing I could find were the bootcamp Windows Executuables (nothing for the OSX side).
Obviously I am doing something wrong. Anyone care to explain what I am missing?

Do you really need 64 bit version of Windows? 32 bit should be fine. I am running 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. It works great so far.

    Thanking in advance

    Hello,
I have installed windows-7 (64-bit) home basic OS.
    Can I Install Oracle 10g (32-bit) software on above OS.Why don't you try to install Oracle *10.2.0.5* for Windows 7 - 64 bit ?
I think it is safer and you could benefit fully of the 64 bit advantage (large SGA,...).
Anyway, you'll have to do this installation in 2 steps:
    - Installation of Oracle 10.2.0.4
    - Application of the Patch Set 10.2.0.5

  • Installing 64-bit Vista on a MBP

I'm currently installing 64-bit windows on my MBP and I've run into a bit of trouble. I was wondering if anyone has installed a 64-bit version of windows on their MBP and if they would be kind enough to list exactly what they did. Heres what I did and it has not worked yet:
    1) Partition Hard Disk
    2) Installed 64bitVista Ultimate
    3) Started windows
    4) Inserted Leopard CD and ran .exe (couple files would not install and I clicked ignore)
    5) Ran 2.1 Bootcamp Update off of my USB flash drive. (nothing happened)
So far, I cannot use anything extra like my wireless, backlit keys, shortcut keys (brightness, volume...), eject key, my graphics card... I don't know if I have installed 32-bit drivers on my 64-bit OS or whether installation has just failed. Please help!

    Luis:
want to install Vista home premium on my SR 2.4 MBP that has 4 gb ram using Bootcamp. I would install it to an external Passport drive that connects to the MBP with USB.
    Has anyone done this successfully?
This won't work. Boot Camp won't allow installation to an external drive and Windows will not allow booting up from an external drive even you get it installed on a USB/Firewire drive. This limitation is set by Microsoft.
There appears to be one way to get this done but it is not easy and will require following precise procedures to avoid failure. The procedure is mentioned [Here|http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-d rive>. My recommendation is to stay away from installing/running windows from an external drive.
Is there any benefit or drawback to installing the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista on a MBP that can only have 4 gb ram?
With a 32Bit version Vista will see and use up to 3GB of RAM. With a 64Bit Version, Vista will see and use all of your 4GB RAM. One thing to note and that is that the boot camp supports 64Bit Vista only on early and late 2008 Mac Book Pros as mentioned [Here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846]. I am not sure if your Santa Rosa Macbook Pro an early 2008 version or mid 2007 version. If it is the latter than I would recommend going with 32Bit Version of Vista (You should be fine with Vista and 3GB of RAM).
Will I have problems installing my Windows software that works on XP 32 bit on Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? I'm thinking of MS Office, Adobe master collection and Poser 6 as the software I plan to install.
MS Office and Adobe Master Collection should work fine under Vista 32Bit and/or Vista 64Bit however after doing some research, it appears that Poser 6 works with Vista 32Bbit and some folks have had issues installing with Vista 64Bit. Please do some research on the web for Poser 6 and Vista 64Bit.

  • Can I install 64-bit OS on Satellite A200?

Can I install a 64-bit OS on Satellite A200 equipped with a intel t2350 proccessor?

Of course you can install the 64bit OS on the Toshiba notebooks but the question is if you will get the compatible 64bit drivers well, I think if you will install the 64bit OS you will have to run the notebook without the Toshiba tools and drivers because the 64bit drivers are not available on any of Toshiba pages
In such case you will have to search on chip manufacture sites for compatible drivers!

  • Can we install 32-bit Windows Grid Control on 64-bit 2008 Windows server ?

    Dear Guru's,
We wish to install GRID for one of our 11.1.0.6 production database which is on 64-bit Windows 2008 (Enterprise Edt) server.
As per http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/index.html , Only Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)available which is on 32- Bit.
    Now my concerns are :-
    1. Can we install Windows 32-bit 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) on 64-bit Windows 2008 server ??
    2. This is 4GB database ( with less workload) , but since this is the special requirement from the client where he wants to have alert information for this database.
Is there any alternate option than GRID which can fullfil the requirement of sending alerts ???
Note :- This database is the only database at our site which is on diffrent network where we can't even use internet.( For sending alerts )
    Thanks in advance

Are you planning on installing GC on the same host machine? Eh, not sure that's a great idea, at least for the OMSNo we are planning to install Grid control on dr server
What did you read from the Installation guides - found via Documentation tab from the link you posted?I didn't understand your question ; My database is on 11.1.0.6 and hence i think i should go for 11gR1 Grid control. Please correct me if i am worng
What "alerts" are you referring to? What's the "sending" requirements? We want basic alerts like diskspace full ,CPU Usage, Tablespace full , Alert log error etc..
Is there any other tool / utility that i can use for the same ?

I've tried to download the ZIP file a number of times and I've tried this on a number of Windows 2008 R2 64-bit machines, all with the same result. I'm able to run the 32-bit installer without error.
There's a similar post already on here that suggests using compatibility mode but nothing I've tried has enabled me to install 64-bit DAC on a 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 machine.
    Has anyone successfully achieved this?
    Thanks!

  • I can't install the OS X that came with my MBP !

    Hello,
I'm a new MacBook Pro user who has spent most of his life dealing with Windows OSs...And the thing is that I wanted to fully recover my MBP (Erase and Reinstall its OS) using the Mac OS installation DVD that came with it...
The thing is when I followed the simple steps you have mentioned in order to install a fresh copy of the OS media I got, it all goes well (i.e I held the ALT button until the Mac OS disk showed up and chose it, proceeding to language selection,) and when I get to the following step ( where the insatallation begins ) I get this error massege that says : " You can not install Mac OS X on this HD " !  Although I managed to Erase the HD completely ! What do I do to make it install ?!
Your help is invaluably appreciated, please repond to me ASAP, and thank you for your time

Are you sure it's the disc that came with that Mac?  It should be gray, and the model and version (10.6.x) should be printed on it in very tiny type.  It will only work on the same model and build period.
When you erased the internal HD, dis you specify the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or, if you really need it, Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled) Format?
Why are you doing this?  Was there a problem?  If so, what (that might provide a clue)?

  • How do I install 64-bit Vista

    Hi All,
I have a Mac Pro purchased about halfway through 2007.
I am just about to install (try) Vista 64-bit on a BootCamp partition. I have seen the recent articles about recent Mac Pro's shipping with all the necessary 64-bit drivers with BootCamp.
As an older Mac Pro owner how do I take advantage of these new drivers...? Can I download them somewhere...? How does the process work...? i.e. How do I get the new drivers onto my install...?
    Many Thanks

As far as I know, the Mac Pro 2008 has a newer DVD, plus they have updated EFI ROM.
However, Vista 64 has been running on mine off and on since fall '06.
If you want to use part of a 2nd drive, format with Disk Utility. To use part of your boot drive, use BootCamp Assistant to create a partition. My last install of Ultimate took just about 24GB and SP1 needs 12-15GB of temporary space, plus whatever you want to install, and room for restore points and temporary files and free space.
You will have to format the partition you create above in Vista DVD to NTFS.
Let Vista do all the updates. Then use the Leopard DVD to install the Apple setup services. Some like HAL fail. It seems to install Bluetooth or try, even if you don't have BT.
Grab the ATI or Nvidia drivers from their web site. Also for other 3rd party controllers.
From what I read, the 64-drivers aren't a big issue. The BIG issue is I have no "Windows" in Startup Disk (I did in Tiger) and one on Windows side (I hope there is a BootCamp or Apple Software Update takes care of this) for the WOW64 Apple Control Panel "OSS" (operating system switcher).
Runs well, takes some work, but easier and more reliable I think than even Fusion 1.1. or mixing the two (using BootCamp Vista in Fusion has too many issues for my taste with drivers and such).
So Vista64 on Mac Pro worked - before there even was BootCamp, probably because it was intended to eventually support EFI post SP1 (March) with UEFI 2.01, which I think is why and what the new Mac Pros have.
Haven't tried iTunes 64 but installed it.

Can i drive a 64 Bit OS without getting driver problems? Vista or 7?

    Hi
Of course you can install the 64bit OS.
You can install Vista or Win 7 the notebook hardware is good enough to get such OS running smoothly.
As far as I know Toshiba European driver page provides the 64bit OS drivers for both OS; Win 7 and Vista
