No sound (clicking or music) until turned off/on

This is the second time that it's happened. I had the ipod plugged in all night charging and when I went to play music on it this morning, the play symbol came up in the top left corner, but the time elapsed never changed and there was no sound. Also, the clicking while scrolling through menus wasn't there either.
I turned it off holding down the play button, turned it back on, and it worked again.
I restored the ipod the first time this happened (about a week ago), and then it happened again.
Only seems to happen after being plugged in.
Any ideas?

i can't believe how much help i've received.

• Click wheel does'n turn off

hi, one week ago i bought an ipod nano (4gb, red product limited edition) from apple online store and yesterday i noticed that my click wheel doesn't turn off when i hold play button pressed.
actually it looks like my ipod only turns off screen(not only light, but the whole screen) because i can hear the wheel click and when i turn it on again i've moved to somewhere else in the menu.
this is a random problem. sometimes it doesn't happen, but most of the time it does. when this happens, click wheel finally turns off after some time (sometimes a couple of seconds, sometimes a minute or so)
ive tried with reset, firmware update and everything else.
can anyone help please??

thanks for yor response, but this is not the case... i press play button and it looks like nano is off, then i stop touching the wheel and in a couple of seconds i touch it again and slide my finger around the wheel (you know, just sliding, not pressing).
i can hear my wheel "click click", and if i press any button, it turns on and i notice i've moverd around the menu

• How to fix screeching sounds when listening to music, and turning off ipad.

My ipad4 wifi is making screeching sounds while listening to music. Typing makes
scratchy sounds too. Happens when ipad is turned off.

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

• Calendar alarm APP that will continue to sound until turned off?

Is there a calendar or alarm app that continues to sound alarm or reminder until you actually turn it off? Many cell phones have voicemail reminders and my Palm TREO (R.I.P.) had one for calendar alarms.

Most Android phones can be made to do this with their own settings, however you can go to the Play Store and download others. This type of alarm will be very hard on your battery life as a rule.

• Music streaming turns off when I turn off TV

I use AppleTV to stream music to my stereo. The device is plugged into TV via HDMI and using the digital out to connect to my amp. Works great when my TV is on and I can listen to my music over my speakers.
Problem is that once I turn TV off, the music stops.
Does AppleTV need to have TV to be on to work as streaming device. Doesn't seem to make sense.
Anyone have a fix for me?

If you have an A/V Receiver (Amp) your Apple TV and TV should both be connected to the Receiver via HDMI. You don't need the optical cable unless you have a very old receiver without HDMI support. This will allow you to use the Apple TV completely independant of the TV.
In any case make sure that on the TV HDMI Control is turned off, so it won't turn off your amp when turning off the TV.

• Selecting photo then clicking "Fit" does NOT turn off the Ken Burns effect.

Trying to wean from iMovieHD. I'm having trouble mastering what seems to be more limited Ken Burns effect functionality in iMovie11. I don't seem to have the range, say, left-to-right, as I did in either iPhoto or in iMovie HD.
So, I figured for now I'd turn off the Ken Burns effect on all the stills in this project. I've tried selecting one photo, getting into the Fit/Crop/KB effect viewer, then clicking Fit, then Done. But the photo keeps the KB effect that had been applied to it.
I tried changing all photos in Preferences and that didn't change anything either.
Hopefully I'm just missing something? Thanks for any help, everybody...

Nevermind. Got it. As I'd hoped, user error.

• Macbook plays music even turned off ??

I have a Macbook about 2 years old. I was running 10.7.3. Today it started to play random music I've never heard quietly in the background even if I turned it off and upplugged everything. A buddy said to update to 10.7.4 to fix the "bug". I did and the music stopped about a 1/2 hour. Then started up again.
Is the bug fix buggy it self ??
Or do I have a hardware problem ??

If your MacBook is playing music even when turned off, the problem is not with your operating system. I would have the hardware checked while you are on the way to see your psychiatrist (just kidding about the last.)
Best of luck.

• HP Photosmart 7515 wireless printer reverts to Offline, won't print until turned off and on again.

All of the software is installed and it worked without any problem. The problem appears to occur after the computer has gone into standby. The only way I can get anything to print is to turn it off the printer and then turn it back on again. The troubleshooter simply tells me that the printer appears to be off (which it isn't) and tells me to turn it on. Is there any way to bring an offline printer back online without either rebooting the whole system or turning the printer off and on again? Needless to say, this is very annoying. I have never had this problem with any other printer.

CampValdez, did you ever solve your problem? I'm having a similar problem with a Photosmart 7525. I just returned a 7510 because of the same problem and now the 7525 won't work. I've spent the better part of 3 days on the phone with HP tech support to no avail and I'm ready to take the 7525 back. The software and printer have been reinstalled many times. I've changed the printer IP to a static IP. I've removed my Norton security software, I've tried to set it up on another computer, I've changed the channel on the router to channel 11 and nothing works for more than 10 minutes. The blue light on the printer indicating that it is on the network always is steady blue. I can get it to work by pressing the wireless symbol and then turning off the wireless and then turning it back on. When it's working I can access the printer from my web browser with the printer's IP. It seems once it goes to sleep, I cannot access the printer from the browser. Touching the screen and waking up the printer does not restore the communication between the computer and the printer. Since this problem persists with two printers and two different computers, I'm suspecting a router setting but I'm stumped. If you find your solution, I bet it's the same problem I'm having. It's unbelieveable that HP tech support seems clueless. A search shows this is not an uncommon problem.

• How can I turn off the background "music" without turning off sound?

I find the background tune is annoying, especially when the sound of the video or you tube tape is playing softly. I didn't finish taking a one-session class because the sound interfered with the lecture. Is there a way to get rid of it? I know how to mute the sound so that there is none, but I want to hear the sound associated with whatever it is I am playing without this underneath----and sometimes on top!

Usually this means there is some media playing on a different tab. Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't have a built-in way to track down which tab it is.
I was not able to find an add-on to mute background tabs.
So... I think you might need to hunt down the source manually by checking all your tabs. Hopefully another volunteer will have an easier suggestion.

• How do I turn on sound alert for calls but turn off sound for txt

At night, I want to be able to hear if I get a call, but I do not want to hear if I get a txt mssg. I went into setting/txt/sounds and turned it off, and had a ring tone selected for calls, but when I get calls I do not hear the ring tone.

Hi,
To do this you will need to go to Settings>Notifications>Do Not Disturb and from there sellect "Allow Calls From" to everyone. This will mean that if you schedule Do Not Disturb at Night time, only Calls will make alerts and ring whereas other notifications will be silenced.

• Click to play not turning off

So i've set plugins.click to play to both false and true, restarting firefox each time.
It still blocks everything. I had a similar problem with the last update as well, and couldn't find an add-on that would help. To be fair i'm not getting the annoying message anymore but even with noscript disabled it still just shows a gray box where stuff should be.

this is a good example
Why can't i turn it off? am i missing something? Please help me before i lose my mind. I have homework to do.

You need to add a security exception in most cases if the applet doesn't run.

If you visit a website regularly then a possible workaround is to add the URL to the Java Exceptions Site List, see:

• Optical Sound out port won't turn off... No more sound...

My MBP has an optical out port (sound). I plugged in standard analog speakers a lot and all worked fine. Now I once plugged in a mono(!) analog cable and since that time the optical connection stays open (red light in the port), I can't connect standard stereo speakers any more and also the intermal speakers stay off even when nothing is plugged in.
In the system settings nothing can be done, all entries are grey. Rebooting doesn't help either.
What can I do?? ANy help?

I had this problem with my Intel MacBook Pro. It was only an issue when I used Boot Camp to boot into the Windows partition. Apple updated drivers for teh audio card, and once I updated Boot Camp and re-installed the new drivers that fixed the issue.
Note that this issue DID NOT occur on the Mac side for me -- it was only when I booted into Windows.

• Music pause/turns off when ever I enter an app now.

This never happened until now but when play music and then enter an app my music pauses. Why is this? This never happened before. The music app isn't closed to save ram or some crap because if I double tap the home button while in the app and can press play to play it while in the app. Is this normal? Any solutions?

Certain apps will kill the music when you open it so that you can here their audio.
This is normal.

• My sound turns off and on

The sound/volume on my iPad turns off &on unexpectedly...mostly off. Please help. Also, I can't turn iPad off! I just noticed this today. I turn it off & it automatically turns back on!

Hey Sharrice!
I actually experienced the same problem with my iPhone 3GS even though I set it to silent it automatically set it off of silent,
This is what I did to combat that problem,
Go into:
Settings > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > On
And click on that little box and go to:
Device > Mute
To unmute or more cohesiveness just go to:
Settings > Accessibility > Triple Click Home
And select Assistive Touch, this will enable that little box every single time you click the home button 3 times and will also turn it off when you click it 3 times!
Hope it helped!
