QT Pro is an application designed for "frame to frame" synchronized audio/video formats. (I.e., those formats which contain separate audio and video tracks of information.) The problem you describe usually is the result of trying to convert a "muxed" (MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI, AVI MJEPEG, etc) file formats in which audio and video information is synchronized by interspersing "blocks" of audio and video information in a single data stream. In this case, you need to use an MPEG based third party converter like Videora iPod Converter (free) to correctly convert these files.

  • Converting videos to play on iPod takes away sound

For some reason, every time I convert a video in iTunes to play on my iPod, the sound is removed. The original video and the converted video will both play in iTunes, and the original video will have the sound and the converted video will not. Obviously, when I move the converted video to the iPod, the sound still doesn't play.
I've downloaded a few video podcasts (the Strong Bad e-mails) in iPod format already, and they work just fine. It's just ones I convert manually in iTunes that have this problem.

Quicktime doesn't play "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
    See:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
You need a 3rd party converter such as Handbrake, or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video file.
The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.

  • Trying to convert video made in iMovie from Mp4 to M4v so I can burn to DVD downloaded Aimersoft video converter but not having any luck

I have downloaded a wedding video done on my iPad and put it in iMovie on my MAC.  Have spent many hours refining it and now want to burn onto DVDs for other family.
When I did this same thing 4 years ago, I had one-to-one help at apple store and saved the video in M4V format and it was not a problem to share the video.
Now this video is in Mp4 and I need it in M4V - that is what the burning devise tells me.
I downloaded a video converter, but it didn't seem to make the coversion.

  • No sound when convert videos to ipod

i have bought quicktime pro, and i can successfully convert videos onto my ipod, but there is no sound on them. has anyone got a clue how i can resolve this?
    thanks alot

No new "points" can be given as yours was just a tagged on response to an already answered question.
Muxed file formats (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash) are intended for playback only. MPEG 1 or 2 require licensing agreements ($$) from the Moving Pictures Export Group (the people that make the file name MPEG) which would be passed on to all end users and Apple has decided against those extra fees.
Those are the "limitations" of the Apple software. It currently doesn't extract audio from muxed file formats and I don't expect any changes any time soon.
Dozens (hundreds) of third party software apps can convert your file and include audio. Many of them are free.
MPEG Streamclip offers both a Mac and Windows version. It can convert your .mpg file with audio. It even has a "one button" export feature to meet the specifications for iPod files.
Now you really know the limitations of the software and the reasons for them.
Get some third party tool to make your iPod files from your muxed file formatted ones.

  • Got problems when converting video to 640*480 m4v

guys, I got compatibility issues when convert videos to 640*480 h264 m4v.
I tried MepgStreamclip, and the export to mp4 quicktime mov in Quicktime. ALL FAILED.
I followed all these 1.5mbps, 640*480, aac-lc requirements when did the conversion. However, my ipod will not recognize of the files.
I have also noticed that the "Export to Ipod" preset in Quicktime has been changed to 640*480. BUT, what keeps annoying me is the preset is so idiotic!! It ignores the source bps and simply converts everything to 1.5mbps. I got 25mb file after conversion as the source file is 11mb.
Could anyone kindly point out the Right procedure to convert video to ipod format Manually...... I want to have full control when I am doing this.
    thanks a lot

    any suggestions?

  • Converted videos play, but no sound

Videos that I have converted are synced and playing on my i pod, but they have no sound. Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.

    hey guys,
i have a movie which is in MPEG movie format, and i tried syncing it to my ipod. a pop up then says that the type of movie was not supported by my ipod, so then i checked out troubleshooting and said that it was recommended to convert which is in the advanced section of the itunes bar. after the conversion, i then synced it to my ipod. the video is playing but there is no sound, not even on itunes...
    can anybody help?

  • No sound when converting video to ipod

after i convert video for ipod playback using quicktime the file has no sound???.....

it's probably best to check to see if the source files for that video are "muxed". for some more info on that, see:

  • ITunes converts video, drops sound.

Everytime I spend 4+ hours converting a 20 minute video, iTunes cuts out the sound on the video.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

  • Ipages converting videos m4v to mov?

I created an epub book using iPages and imported m4v video files into the epub. I can upload the ebook to my ipad. Then when I tried to upload it to iBookstore using iTunes, iTunes complains that the video files are mov and not m4v and would not validate the file.
Looking at the epub book, I can see that all the videos are now mov files.
How do I prevent iPages from converting them from m4v to mov and allow to validate the epub?

    Thanks for the link.
The video does not say why when I add a video.m4v video to my pages document and export it to epub, it becomes video.mov.
I would appreciate if you could explain that.
    Thanks.

  • No Sound On Converted Videos

Whenever I convert videos on iTunes to be sent to my iPod, they have no audio. I can't hear anything on my iPod or on iTunes. I would really like to know what is wrong as soon as possible!

Usually the problem is videos that have "muxed" audio. The audio is thus lost when converted for iPod. Check the "info" on the video you are converting to see if it is muxed or not.

  • No Sound on Videos

Ok, so I have a few videos I want to put on my ipod. Well actually I have put them on, but, only one works. I know that you have to convert the files into m4v before putting them on iPod, and that's what I have done. However, previous to the conversion only ONE of those files was an MOV file (.mov) and the rest were mpg/mpeg . The ".mov" video worked on my iPod, sound and video. The others didn't, only the video part, no audio. Why is this? I know that there have been a lot of posts relating to this, but I found my situation to be a little more specific and decided to give it a shot, since the other sweren't so much in my "ballpark" of problems.
    Thanks

iMovie does not work with muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips
When using any version of iMovie, please note that you cannot import muxed (multiplexed) MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video clips into projects. If you try, one or more of the following things can happen:
iMovie refuses to import the clip and displays an alert instead (such as "File could not be imported because QuickTime could not parse it. -2048").
iMovie allows you to import the clip, however:
You won't hear audio on playback.
You won't see video on playback.
When you export the project to QuickTime, iDVD, or a connected camera, the clip no longer contains audio.
When files are muxed, they contain interleaved audio and video tracks (they're mixed together instead of stored in separate tracks). Because of this, iMovie cannot support them.
If you want to find out if a movie file is "muxed," follow these steps:
Open the original movie file in QuickTime Player.
From the Window menu, chose Show Movie Info.
Click the More Info disclosure triangle in the Movie Info window (if it's closed).
Note the entry next to "Format."
If the format is "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed," you can't use the clip in iMovie. You may want to consider using a third-party utility to convert the clip to DV format for use in your iMovie project.
Note: If you have the QuickTime MPEG-2 playback component installed, it may not change the issues described above. Editing muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files is not supported in iMovie, even with this component installed
Understand about iMovie Now? No under no circumstance should you convert twice. Quality will go downhill and fast. I convert to MPEG-4 ASP (Simple Profile). This is why all my videos continue to play correctly even after the new IPOD updater. I am not a MAC user so I will refrain from suggesting any programs. Folks have mentioned Handbrake although. Learning how to identify the different video formats and the different standards within each is important to success and getting your IPOD full of videos.
