No sound / Faint Sta

I have a Gateway 820gm that comes with a P4 BTX motherboard with on-board Realtek sound. Last Thursday after a re-start, my computer quit making sound of any kind. I tried different headphones, speakers, everything and the computer makes no sound besides a faint static whenever a program opens, or the computer does pretty much anything at all.
I decided to ge ta Soundblaster Li've, hoping it would fix the problem, but after disabling the onboard sound and installing Li've!, I still have no sound at all. If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

It's just weird that I can hear the static through headphones whenever I do something on the computer. And I know it's from the computer, too, because the static gets loud every time I press the start button, an IM notice comes up, someone IMs me, everything. These headphones work with my stereo and iPod, and these speakers from Creative I bought when I got the soundcard are brand new, just like the sound card.
Since this problem was happening with the onboard realtek sound as well though, I can't place how to fix it. It's really making me upset since I do a LOT of music editing on this machine.

  • Whatsapp tri-tone sound after the update?

I have an iPhone 5 running latest IOS 7.  I recently did the whatssap update release a few days ago.  First update after the Zuck bought them.
Besides some of the obvious changes I noticed that the tri-tone sound you receive when there is a new message has diminished.  Allow me to explain...right now it sounds faint, weak with some kind of sprinkle effect on it.  I don't know how it happened as this is probably something to do more with the phone but I swear it did not sound like that before.
This is how it's supposed to sound: (if video doesn't come up look up iphone tri tone onyoutube)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoJUYQk_FMI
Prior to the update the sound was bold and loud.  I know you'll probably thing this duy is crazy but it's the **** little things that drive us insane!
    aaaarrrggghhhhhh

me too. I have the same problem and I don't like the new one.
I Like the old one and i'd like to give it back.
I Think we can download the original the one in your link above
and we can choose it as a new measage notification in whatsapp

  • Chirping noise every 2 seconds, mute stops it!

Today I noticed that my MacBook Pro has suddenly started sounding like there's a small bird trapped inside it.
At first I thought I could hear birds outside but it's too rythmical, with a chirping sound made about every 2 seconds. It's coming from the MacBook and appears to be equally loud through each speaker.
I don't think that it's due to the fan or the drive as it's coming from the speakers AND it stops when I mute the volume.
Any ideas what this could be? I really can't afford to have my machine die on me right now and am rather worried!
    Thanks for any help.
    Robert

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
No idea what this is, but it might not hurt to run some diagnostic tests. You could run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code.
You could also run this utility:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a comprehensive view of the physical health of your hard drive.
I wonder if the speaker is picking up a sound from the drive or the fan and magnifying it. If you mute the volume, can you still hear the sound faintly?
    Good luck!

  • Voiceover in new iMovie lacks major low frequency and general quality?

Anyone else observing that voiceover in the new iMovie on Mavericks sounds remarkably different?
Me: recording voiceover with the built-in mic on an early 2013 macbook pro - compared audio with previous old iMovie/mountain lion, quite a large difference. Audio previously sounded admirably rich and decent for a built in mic, but now sounds faint, tinny, missing serous low end. I've messed with the new equalizer features for voiceover - the 'Bass boost' setting certainly helped, but it overcompensates and sounds muddy in comparison to how the previous audio was.
Haven't tried using the mic in other applications to see whether the problem is local to iMovie - curious if anyone else has noticed this?
On the plus, the new interface suits me much better, and for some reason rendering movies seems to be taking about 5 minutes compared to previously 5 hours? Ok I'll take that.

I have the same problem. Just tried using iMovie 13 for the first time (have been using FCE). My microphone is a Blue Yeti, which gives superb results in FCE.
Does anybody know what's going on?

  • N97 (not mini) - Microphone not working

I have a Nokia N97 (not a mini) and the microphone has abruptly stopped working properly. I first noticed it 2 days ago (the day before that, the phone was working fine). Basically, when I speak to someone on the phone, I have to raise my voice quite a bit to be heard - people on the other end of the line have advised me that I sound faint, they can hardly hear me, or it sounds like I'm calling from a distance.
The issue with the microphone does not change whether the call is outgoing or incoming and it doesn't seem to make a difference whether I use the phone normally or on loudspeaker.
I haven't dropped the phone or done any damage to it - certainly not in the last 48 or so hours that would explain the sudden microphone issue! I also haven't updated anything or downloaded anything. My use of the phone over the last few weeks has been normal (phone calls & text messages mostly), but minimal.
Would this likely be a hardware or a firmware/software issue??
I've tried searching for a similar topic but am coming up with zilch - any help would be greatly appreciated!

You may have a diagnostic with..Nokia Diagnostics (Experimental version) available at Nokia Beta Labs..

  • TS5183 iPhone 5 mic issue

Hi. The microphone of my iphone 5 has stopped working suddenly. If I blow on the mic and speak, it picks up sound faintly but it doesnt otherwise. Does anyone else have the same issue? I havent done any iOS updates recently on my phone. Please help!

    Hello jyoti1983,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the microphone on your iPhone 5.  I notice you came from the article “iPhone: Microphone issues.”  Have you attempted all of the following steps?
    Resolution
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.

If the issue with the microphone persists after trying steps 1-6, the last steps would be to reach out to Apple Support for additional assistance for this issue.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Can't get the external speakers to work!!! PLEASE HELP!

The external speakers attached to my Macbook Pro (plugged into the headphone jack) aren't working...the output is set properly and the mute is not checked off - it worked last night and then this morning suddenly it didn't - what do I do?? I can still hear the sound faintly from the speakers but I cannot control the volume from the speakers and it is very quiet. Sooo frustrated!!!

Because your speakers need a 5.1-channel surround-sound signal input, they can't use a standard 2-channel analog stereo headphone plug to connect to the signal's source. I assume therefore that they must have a mini-TOSLink plug, which carries a 5.1-channel optical digital signal. When such a plug is connected to the MacBook Pro's headphone port, the volume coming from the speakers is not controlled by the computer — it's controlled by the amplifier that powers the speakers (and that amplifier is usually built into the subwoofer of the speaker system). So find the volume control knob or buttons for the speakers and you should be able to get a louder output from them — and presumably from all of them.
If in doubt, consult the instructions for the speaker system.

  • Re: Pre Binding and cannot boot to cdrom

Greetings, I have a working Lombard that has the following symptoms:
    1. long boot up time to load os x 10.3 (15 to 20 min)
    2. Cannot boot to cdrom to access "proper running of disc utils"
I am attaching link from the os x forum just as background and what has been done so far. ran permissions from HDD and utils indicate that smart status is verified. Other than than two issues everything seems to be working well.

Hi JPL, thanks for your tenacity in wanting to find out what is wrong with this machine. Have no peripherals attached to laptop just the broadband connection is the only input to machine.
want to verify that the command key is indeed the apple key to the left of option key?
I think I hear the drive spinning on initial bootup, seems to me that the cd also starts spinning but I don't get the "scanner type sound" that tells me that the cd rom is actually reading the disc. Sometimes I hear a sound like fan or turbo mode kicking in...sometimes it just spins up and eventually go to they grey screen and then loading wheel kicks in. I perceive the slow boot is due to computer attempting to read hd sectors and the click click click sounds faintly come from hd. Like I have bad sectors and the puter tries to read and eventually finds it's way to front door of readable area in order to load os? Just conjecture on my part.
The optical drive can mount cd once system comes up. The optical drive worked on bootup before, used it many times. Don't normally go to cd so don't know when this new problem really manifested itself.
The cd is titled mac os x disc 2 (the install disc) disc one is for the upgrade to 10.3.9 they are the only two mac discs I have. The cd appears to be clean, wiped it down with t shirt again. No access to another Lombard/Pismo.
Tried the reboot using the del opt cmd shift combo (proving apple key is indeed the cmd key?) It was different than c attempt startup, seems like it hesitated and was probably looking for something, and eventually brought up the loading wheel with apple preload screen.
I think I answered all of ur questions?...Please confirm that apple key is command key?

  • Gigabit G4 Dual 450MHz won't power on!!!!!

I tried to turn my Mac on from the power button on my Apple USB keyboard, and I noticed that the caps lock key was flickering! When I looked down at the tower I didn't see the glowing power indicator light come on. I tried powering up from the tower with no avail, I then reset my surge protector an tried both methods of powering up....nothing! I thought it might've been the cord (power), so I tried another, nada. I did hear a clicking sound (faintly) coming from the power supply. What can I do? Help me please, I've got a lot of doe wrapped up in this G4. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced power supply? Or does any oneone have one they'd be willing to sell me?

    Hi, JoeJo -
Before replacing the power supply, try replacing the internal battery - a weak or dead one can cause booting problems. The expected life of one is about 5 years, so if yours has never been replaced it's overdue.
After doing that, try resetting the PMU -

  • FAINT sound from Side Speak

Hi! again, can someone help me configuring X-Fi Fatality & T7900 so that I have proper sound output from all 8 channels. Have Windvd 7. A very faint sound comes out from Side Speakers. When I test speakers, they seem GOOD with proper vol output through all channels. THX console also shows proper output of sound from all speakers. MP3 plays well, but When I play any DVD there is hardly any sound from side speakers. Tried every thing. Guess I am making a mistake in configuring setup. I tried using the below advise but still no go. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------2) Decode the AC3/DTS with your Sound Blaster.?You should choose this option if?you don't have an external decoder. In the DVD software, select 'SPDIF' as the audio output method and make sure that 'SPDIF Pass-through' in the souncard options is?off. The DVD software will now pass the compressed audio to your soundcard, which will then decode the data. The soundcard will output the 6 channels using the?analogue connections (or digital DIN, more on this later). Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Faint Dial-up sound coming from internal speakers

What would cause the faint dial-up sound from the internal speakers when playing a game in XP?

    Go System/Pre then sound
    from there, go to Output-Line-Out,
see if its on mute aswell,
it was not on mute. I ended up plugging the speakers into the microphone jack on the front (instead of the line out in the back) and now it works.

  • IPhone earbud microphone/clicker: Beep sound when ending call is VERY faint

I sometimes use the iPhone earbuds to make calls. Ever since the release of iPhone software version 2.2, the beep sound that one hears when hanging up a call using the microphone/clicker is VERY faint. Now when I use the headset to make calls, I can barely even hear the beep when I end a call. I checked with another friend of mine who also uses his earbuds to make calls and he noticed the same thing.
Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know of a solution? I tried blowing out any lint that may have accumulated in the earphone jack, but this did nothing to improve the situation.

Yes! Mine does it too,I miss the louder beep,on top of it I have to use head phones because Bluetooth headsets don't work anymore since 2.2,I can hear others but they don't hear me.

    Hi,
Tap the iPod icon in the Dock. Then tap the Airplay icon just to the right of the volume slider.
Make sure the iPad speakers are selected, not your wireless.
