No sound from .avi movies in QuickTime

Hi -- I have two questions, really:
1. Why no audio from .avi movies played in QuickTime?
2. How do I install audio codecs?

The AVI container (invented and abandoned by its creator Microsoft) has been abused to no end by poorly informed users and its use should just die and go away as Microsoft intended when they introduced WMP.
Use the Movie Info window of QuickTime Player to discover the audio codec used in the file.
Use a Google search (codec name +Mac) to find a version that works on your OS. Most include an installer.

How do you obtain the full file path specification from Flash
Movie and QuickTime icons? I want the path and the file name that
is contained in these icons. I am using a "dive" to run through the
icons of a file, and when I come upon these two types of icons, I
want to obtain the above information that is contained in them. I
certainly can look in the property dialog box to get this info, but
there are many icons in these files, and I want to generate a list
of info based upon the various types of icons that I am processing.

No sound for AVI files with Quicktime

I know this is a well discussed topic, but I can't seem to fix this problem.
I upgraded to Quicktime 7.5 and quickly found that I cannot get audio/sound out of my AVI files (most are short clips taken with my Casio Exlim Digital Camera). I tried installing Perian, but that didn't work. I tried reinstalling QT, and that didn't work. I tried repairing disk permissions and that didn't work. Finally, I thought perhaps I had a bad AppleIntermediateCodec file. I downloaded version 1.0.1 from Apple, but it won't let me load it - acts like its an update to an existing file, but the file is not on my system. Here is the contents of my Library/Componets folder:

I am having the same problem. But it's even weirder. Any .avi file I created using my Flip Ultra camera will play with sound. One or two .avi movies I've d/l'd from the 'net will also play with sound. The remainder will not play with sound on QT (7.5). I have VLC, Real and DivX Player loaded, and all .avi files play on those players with sound, no problem.
Now, my Library/Components folder is empty. My Library/QuickTime folder has the following:

Using sound from one Movie in another one

I have one animation movie and I want the sounds from that one on another version of the movie (another file). How can I export or copy these sounds?

Share your Project using SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME... and choose an audio only codec like AIFF. This will give you a sound file that you can use elsewhere.

Why can't I play AVI movies using quicktime? Even after downloading a apple app to do so. I only get audio.

Extracting original audio from .avi movie

I imported an .avi movie. The original sound plays, but does not show as a green strip. There is no way to delete/extract it. I called Apple Tech Support and they suggested, I buy "Final Cut" at $1000 a pop. Does anyone have a better idea?

As I originally stated, I tried everything, including calling Apple Tech Support. They said: "It cannot be done with iMovie 2009, you need to buy First Cut."
I found a way to remove the embedded audio with iTunes Professional [upgrade]. A friend told me Pinacle Studio [PC] will also do it. However, I am very unhappy that Apple removed the embedded audio extraction feature when they went from iMovie HD to iMovie 2009.
I think they want to sell more First Cut Software. I think they are making a mistake. They will **** people off.

Playback of sounds from flash movie files in authorware

Ive imported a flash movie file into authorware but the sound
is not playing back. In flash, I created a movie that includes
graphics and sounds. The movie plays perfectly when I open the
flash player but it doesnt play when imported into Authorware. Ive
tried publishing the flash file as quicktime but had a problem with
the handler on my computer. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

If you click the 'Options' button on the Property panel for
the Flash
movie, is the 'Playback > Sound' checkbox actually checked
in the
resulting dialog box?
When published as QT, what does 'had a problem with the
handler on my
computer' mean? Do you have QT installed on the playback
machine? Are
you using Insert > Media > Quicktime?

why don't i have any sound when i log on to see a movie trailer ?

Sound from separate movie clips over laps.

I have 4 buttons that each lead to 4 different frames with a gotoAndStop() command. Each of those frames has a movie clip on it. But for some reason the sound that I have triple checked plays from more than one movie clip. It's weird because the sound is only in the movie clips.

No Sound from iTunes Movie Download

I ordered a 2 movies last Sunday (10/17) and both had no sound for the full 24 hr time period. I have not tried a TV download yet.
anyone else?
Netflix movies are fine.
Internet radio is fine.
Podcasts, fine.
everything seems fine but the movie download.

Did you mean chance Dolby sound to "auto"? Under audio/video there are many options. I tried that but it didn't work and don't see any other options in there that could help

No sound from iTunes movie download, while playing on appletv, iPad, or other

Downloaded a movie from iTunes.
The video is fine; it displays on all iOS devices.
However there is no sound while being played on any iOS device, appletv, iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, etc.
How do I request another download that contains audio?

It sounds like the iPad may have been muted.
The following explains how to determine if it has, and also how to un-mute it.
For what it's worth, this setting does only affect certain applications, and having it 'muted' will not mute ALL output from the iPad.

Exporting from flash movies without quicktime

I used to convert flash movies in dv (for further editing in imovie or Final cut express). With the latest QT update this is not possible anymore (and a lot of my projects are unreadable...). Anyone knows an (possibly inexpensive) way to convert a .swf file in dv or something else digestible from QT or visualhub? (visualhub relyes on QT support for converting flash movies, so this is not doable...)

Buy a cheap external HD and install an older version of Tiger (and QuickTime) on it. Use http://perian.org and QuickTime Pro to make the conversion.
QuickTime 7.3.1 no longer supports Flash media formats.

No sound from avi files - soundtrack is ms format?

Anyone know how to get qucktime to play avi files where the soundtrakc element is 'ms' format. the video part is mp4 and i think the whole file is divx

I have been having the same problem with DivX files that are encoded with MP4 video and AC3 audio (Digital Dolby Surround 5.1). I always get the picture but no sound. The QT does offer to take me to a web page which offers a variety of codec’s and plug-ins, but it does not specify which one it would desire...:-)
As far as I can see, the only solution to the problem is to have the problematic files recoded with a suitable program. In my case, Visual Hub does the job just fine. It is a waste of time, but what can you do... It would be lovely if Visual Hub had "video pass through" option do avoid video conversion or recoding...
If you do not feel like paying for Visual Hub, try FFmpeg, which is nice, but not very user friendly if you do not know what combinations of audio and video encoding you want as your final product, not to mention “encapsulation” (mov, avi wvm, rm…). VLC can also do the recoding, and it does usually do a good job, but as with FFmpeg, it is not easy to setup.

Is the movie still buffering? you may have a slow internet connection. Music files require far less bandwidth than movies.
