No sound from built in speakers but headphones ok, pavilion dv6

HI all,
Out of a sudden , after watching a youtube video, my speakers and headphone gave  noise when I was RE playing the video that I watched seconds ago.
I restarted my lap, and then didn't hear a sound at all
checked my drivers and updated them
the headphone is working fine. but when I unplug it I hear no sound from my built in speakers. though the drivers are working fine.
took my lap for maintenance to get it cleaned up and checked, they told me the speakers are connected and the wires are all fine! but the problem still exists.
they wanted me to leave it with them to be checked ... but I just didn't trust them since they suggested the sound card is damaged! if it was dagamed I don't think I'll be getting any sounds ! right ?
please, can any one tell me what could be the problem ? and how to solve it ?
Pavilion Dv6 3120
running windows 8.1 for the past year

Hi Chaand,
You can try installing this IDT High-Definition Audio driver, it is not for your model but it is a Windows 8.1 driver. There are no Windows 8.1 driver for your model. If installing that driver doesn't work then it is a most likely a hardware issue with the speakers and you should have either a local technician take a look at it or send it to HP for repairs. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • No sound from built in speakers on iPhone 4

I had this problem once before and am not sure how I fixed it.  When I unplugged my earphones I no longer get sound via the built iin speakers.

Unfortunately I didn't. I took the time to make an appointment with the Genius Bar and was told (by an unusually smug tech) to go home, back up my data, then restart the phone with the power button and center button down.  If that didn't work to then Resotre as new through iTunes.  I had already done all that so it seems I will eventually have to get a new phone. I asked said agent before I jump and pay for a new (4S) phone if there was the iPhone 5 set tp debit.  He answered unequivacally that there wasn't.  Several days later there was a news story hinting that there was.  With all that said I will live with my phone that sometimes rings and sometimes doesn't for as long as I can and wait to see what story is correct.
If you haven't tried any of the above you should (it worked once for me several months ago).  Good luck.

  • DM4-1160US - No Sound From Built-In Speakers!

    Hello:
Last week I suddenly stopped hearing sound from the dm4-1160us (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)  laptop.  As a technician myself for over 25 years, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, checked Device Manager for possible error notations, updated the BIOS to the model's latest version, tried the Microsoft so-called "fix" for the problem, and shut down and rebooted dozens of times, etc.  Still, nothing!  If anyone knows of a possible solution for this issue, I would greatly appreciated any suggestions or (dare I say) solution.  Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You can isolate this issue to a hardware or software fault by running a live distro of Ubuntu linix. See step number 2 to install it to a USB memory stick.
If the device is not recognized by Ubuntu during its config operations that the probem is likely to be with the notebook's system board.
Is your notebook still within the standard one year warranty period?

  • Sound working on some programs but not others (Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC)

The sound is working for some programs (iTunes) on my laptop, but will not work with Chrome, Internet Explorer or BBC iPlayer Downloads.
I'm at a loss to explain why. When I open up the Sound settings on the laptop, I can see that iTunes output plays on the 'Speakers and Dual Headphones' device, which is what I believe all my sound would usually come out from. I can hear it as usual.
However, when I play audio in Chrome, no sound comes out, but it appears the device 'SPDIF (Digital Out via HP Dock)' is now playing the sound instead. The sound bar for this moves up and down while something is playing, but I cannot hear anything at all.
It is as if my internet programs have been configured to have sound output through a device that does not actually exist. I tried fiddling around with Sound settings and 'Disabled' the SPDIF device, but nothing has actually changed. I would like to hook my internet audio back up to the 'Speakers and Dual Headphones' option but cannot work out how to.
Sorry if this is not very well-explained, but I have never dealt with this problem before.
Thank you so much if you're able to help - this is very frustrating!
Edit: I also recently used a new HDMI cable to hook my laptop up to our TV and think this could be something to do with it

I saw your post regarding the problems with the sound. Try setting your speakers as the default audio device. What operating system are you using? What is the product number for your Pavilion?

  • Cq50-142us windows 7 64 bit headphones work but no sound from built in Altec-Lansing speakers

I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit on my CQ50-142US after the hard disk died.  I've installed all the drivers that apply, and in particular the Conexant driver for the built-in audio parts.  The system has built-in Altec-Lansing speakers.
I get no sound from the built in speakers, but if I plug in stereo headphones to the front-panel headphone jack, they work and they produce stereo sound no problem.
I can't see any way to test the speakers.  If the system has any built-in diagnostic capability, I can't find it.
A Google search suggests I'm not the only person with similar problems.
    Suggestions?

  • Sound is not coming out of speakers, but headphones work?

I have a Satellite L505-S5990 laptop. Today while I was sitting at home browsing the Internet, I realized there was no sound coming out of the speakers. It was working just fine minutes before. It was sitting on the counter the entire time and it just silently stopped working.
So I grabbed some headphones and plugged them in and they worked.
I restarted the computer, still no sound coming from speakers.
Windows 7 found no problems while troubleshooting the sound.
I downloaded the Automated Troubleshooting Services to diagnose and fix sound playback issues from Microsoft but that didn't find any issues.
I uninstalled the sound driver and installed the one that came with this laptop. I still get the same result. No sound from speakers but headphones work.
Can anyone please tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just want to add another relieved reader of this thread.  I had lost the sound to my speakers even though I had sound to headphones. I was convinced it was a damaged headphone jack because I had pushed the headphone plug in harder the last evening when my wife complained that she could still hear the speakers while I listened with the headphones.  The next morning--no speaker sound.
I spent a few hours searching the web to see how to disassemble a satellite A505 and get to the jack.  But I wasn't even sure I could get a proper replacement jack that fit, and I was concerned that small damage, say to the ribbon connectors could render the computer useless--a large price to pay for just missing audio.
Fortunately, I stumbled onto this thread and I recalled I had put the unit to sleep the night before--something I don't usually do, but I didn't want all the Chrome web sites to have to reload so I just put it to sleep.
When I put it to sleep again and fired it up--Sound!  I am so glad to find this solution so I just want to let people know it remains a viable option.

  • TS1574 no audio from built-in speakers and red light visible through the headphone port

My 15" late 2006 MBP has just stopped producing sound from the internal speakers and for the first time there is a red light visible inside the headpbone output port. Apple support says contact support but since I'm a long time out of even my extended warranty I wondered if anyone had a fix-it suggestion I might try myself?

Try to plug the headphone into and out of the headphone socket couple of times
to flip the microswitch in the socket.
Red light visible means sound output is stuck in digital mode.
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Procedure is same for 10.6
    Reset SMC.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If these steps do not help, repair Apple Store is needed.

  • I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? Any ideas :)

I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing from the port? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? I used the headphones in the laptop for the first time yesterday and have had this problem ever since. Any ideas

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • No audio from built-out speakers on my Mac book pro

no audio from built-out speakers on my Macbook pro, but with external headphones or speakers it does work. I see a red light inside the audio line-out port when you disconnect devices. What can I do?

    The internal switch is stuck.
Insert the earphone jack several times.
Blow real hard into the audio output ort.
Take a toothpick and jiggle inside the audio output port.
If no success, visit the Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • HT3798 no sound from IPod 5 generation but plays songs

no sound from IPod 5 generation but plays songs

Assuming your earphones are in good condition, the iPod battery is fully charged and you are not trying to play very high quality music.(not HE-AAC), when was the last time you played any music on your iPod?
Try this if you haven't yet.
Reset the iPod - Press the Menu and center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, release the buttons, select your preferred Language.
    Play your music.
    Good Luck!

  • No Sound from speakers but Headphones work on HP All-In-One 23-p142

I recently purchased my computer HP Pavillion 23-p142 with Windows 8.1 64bit on July 9, 2015 and everything was golden...couldn't be happier with it for my needs. Now, in just the last few days, the sound doesn't work at all. No sound from Windows Media Player, Youtube etc. Absolutley nothing. Not even system sounds. I've tried troubleshooting tips such as going into Computer Management> Services> Windows Audio and restarting that service...still no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers several times and it worked on the very first attempt then the sound went away again after a few hours. I'm at a loss for what to try next...Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.  PS. I forgot to mention my headphones work fine. And here are some screenshots of devices...if that helps with anything.

Is there any software you need to install to properly configure your speakers on your system? In the meantime, I recommend following the steps in this document on No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8). This should help return the sound to your computer using your speakers. I also recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point before the issue occurred.
