No sound from Lenovo T420 dock

The internal speakers work fine, the headphones work fine, external speakers work when plugged into the headphone jack. When the external speakers are plugged into the dock they mute the internal speakers but there is no sound.

Hey. I'm having the same issues with my T420 dock. The speakers of my laptop get muted if something is plugged into the OUT port.
aplay -L
shows only one mixer (since I'm using PA) so there is no headphone1 showing up.
anymore ideas how I can find the device that I need to toggle for working speakers?

  • No sound from nano in dock or car

Hi guys, I need some advice.
I bought a 7th gen iPod nano for my wife to use in her car but I can't get any sound from it when it's plugged in (head unit shows display artwork etc and nano seems to be playing but no audio) Tried it on my Bose soundock 2 through a 30 pin to lightning connector, no sound. Soundock and her car play my classic perfectly. Tried the nano in my Fiesta Sportvan through the connector and my regular wire in the factory USB, played perfectly so no problem with the nano or the connector.
So my question is why will it play there ok but not in my Bose or in her focus which has a pioneer AVIC-F950DAB head unit with 30pin connector?
This has me stumped so any ideas would be appreciated. I have tried the standard resets etc with no luck.
    Thanks

  • Ipod classic - no sound from headphones or dock

    Hi,
I have an ipod classic and it has stopped outputting audio on both the headphone socket and the dock socket.  Any ideas how I can sort this out?  Or is it just dead?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply
Do you mean take it to a physical store?  The closest one I have is just over an hours drive away, if they'll look at it for me though I guess it's worth it.

  • WNo Sound from Internal Microphone - Windows 8.1 Lync App on Lenovo Yoga 13

After upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 the microphone input in Lync ceased to work.
Lync correctly shows that I have both a webcam and microphone in my laptop, and both are turned on under Permissions.
I have updated all my drivers to latest available on Lenovo's website.
When I examine the microphone driver in the Device Manager, it shows that audio is being picked up and can properly route audio through to the laptops internal speakers.
The only app that appears to have a problem with the internal microphone is Lync.  For example, the YouCam application properly captures both audio and video.
    Any suggestions?
    Windows 8.1 64bit
    Lync (from app store)
    Lenovo Yoga 13
The YouCam app can properly capture audio and video.

    Hi,
Are you able to make call using this Internal Microphone? I would like to confirm if the call can be established and there is no sound from Microphone.
Please check the Audio and Video Device in Lync client option. Please also select "Before I join meetings, ask me which audio device I want to use" in Phones option so that you can choose the correct audio device for call.

  • IPod touch 4th gen  - no sound from speaker dock

After upgrading my 4th gen iPod touch o iOS 5, the speaker dock no longer works. The dock charges the iPod, but iPod still continues to output sound from the internal speaker rather than the speaker dock. My iPhone with iOS 5 works fine on the dock. I have restored the iPod to a fresh state but the problem still persists
    What could be the problem?
    Thank you

Based on your troubleshooting, it would appear theat iOS 5 on the iPod made the dock incompatible.  Have you loked at the dock manufactore's support site?

  • No sound output from Maxell iPod dock

Just purchased a Silver 8GB Nano, Maxell iPod dock, and the Scosche PassPort/Adapter for 5th generation iPods, all as a gift set. The Maxell dock now charges the Nano with the Scosche adapter, but there is no music signal out of the dock's 3.5mm jack. In fact, the Nano's internal speaker remains on while sitting on the dock, charging.
I have reset the device many times using center + menu, with no changes.
Headphones plugged into the Nano's 3.5mm jack work perfectly, but no output from the Maxell dock.
Anyone used this dock, with or without a 5th gen Nano, or have any tips to fix this? I am still waiting on a reply from Maxell via email, but I doubt that will happen until next week...

I have the same problem with a 5th Generation iPod on a Jensen JiMS-195 Universal Docking Station for iPod. The sound is great using the Auxiliary jack, but I only get sound through the internal iPod speakers when it's docked. I have checked the Apple site and the Jensen site, but no luck.
Is there some setting on the iPod to change this behavior or is the dock the problem? Any response would be welcome.

  • Iphone 3G - no sound from dock on 4G ipod

I use a 4G ipod to play music in the home via an ipod dock which has been trouble free for a couple of years. I tried my new 3G iphone in the dock, but got no sound out of the line-out from the dock. When replacing the 4G ipod, there is no no sound from this either! The headphone jack works fine, and I have tried restarting and even re-syncing the ipod but this has not fixed it .
I would like to restore the dock to how it was before I tried the iphone!
As an aside, I am now slightly wary of using the ipod dock that is in our Audi with the Iphone in case this breaks as well!

    Hello cemize,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
When you had your iPhone serviced, it should have been returned with a note indicating the reason the iPhone was not repaired. If the iPhone had accidental damage it could have been returned unrepaired and would need to be re-submitted for an out-of-warranty repair. If the iPhone was determined to have liquid damage, it would have been returned unrepaired as well.
If, for some reason, the repair center was unable to reproduce the issue, it could have been returned with a "no trouble found" explanation.
If the iPhone was returned without the explanation, or for a no trouble found reason, I would suggest calling technical support at 1-800-myiphone.
You can also schedule an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone diagnosed:

  • Target Display Mode: Lenovo T420 DisplayPort to iMac (2nd screen) does not work

    Configuration:
    - Laptop Lenovo T420, DisplayPort, Windows 8.1
    - DisplayPort cable, Adapter to Mini DisplayPort
    - iMac (Intel, 27-inch, Mid 2011) as 2nd screen, connected via Mini DisplayPort Adapter, Mavericks OSX 10.9.1
    Problem:
    - iMac does not start Target Display Mode
    - Even cannot be forced via Cmd + F2 or Cmd - Shift - F2
    Test:
    - Lenovo via DisplayPort cable to 2nd screen works fine
    - Can switch between PC only, Duplicate, Extend display
    Question:
    - What is wrong?
    - What can be done to idenify the root cause?
    Kind regards, Marcel.

    Hello Marcel,
It sounds like you are wanting to use the iMac in Target Display mode with your PC. Target Display mode is a feature that is supported from one Mac to another Mac according to this article:
OS X Mavericks: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14264
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another, “primary” Mac.

  • Lenovo T420, Type 4177 Review

Lenovo T420, Type 4177-CTO. Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.  8 GB RAM,  500 GB HD, third party 128 GB SSD added.
After inspecting many laptops I chose the ThinkPad T420. The only better laptop was Apple and I needed different software.
An important consideration for any computer is support. Lenovo has excellent support at 1-800-426-7378. Tech support and repair happens right here in the United States.  Repairs are done in Tennessee.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T420 is a solid laptop. It is not as light as some laptops but strength and durability need to be considered. Weight of machine with a large 6 cell battery and a slice battery = 6 lb. 7 oz. (3060 kg). The laptop weighs 5 lb. 5 oz. (2430 kg) with just the large 6 cell battery. The 6 cell battery weighs 1 lb. 1.5 oz. (500kg) and the 6 cell battery would then weigh 1/3 less. You can compute the difference. Keep in mind my battery life with the slice battery installed is about 17 hours. The slice battery also places the laptop on a slight angle with the rear elevated. It is about the same tilt as with the docking station. You cannot have the slice battery installed while the laptop in in the docking station.
The 6 cell battery sticks out the back so it is not a perfect cosmetic fit. The 4 cell battery will look nicer, be lighter and probably last about 4 hours.
The overall design is perfect in my opinion. I find no problems. The T420 uses the LED night light that shines from the top of the display to the keyboard area. It can be turned on and off with the Fn function key. There are many Fn function keys that are great. I really like the Fn-Space bar that magnifies the display.
The speakers are well positioned and are adequate. They could have higher volume considering where they are installed.
I really like the Lenovo mouse pad and mouse button configuration.  I wish the mouse speed adjustment would go a little faster but it is acceptable. Some laptops I tested are far too slow, even with the mouse settings as fast as they go. The T420 has the best mouse operation of any laptop.
The Windows Pro 7 operating system and Lenovo will only allow one set of recovery disks. Do your backup recovery disks with good quality DVDs. Lenovo will provide a set of recovery disks if you need them.  DVD-RAM is not supported by the Recovery Disks, but SSD drives are supported. The Lenovo T420 is designed to run on SSD drives.
Recovery Data notes.  If you stop in the middle of Disk 4, you will have the first 3 disks and you can still make a copy of all 4 disks. At the end of disk 4 the computer turns Recovery disk copy off. You cannot make more copies.
    Disc 1, Boot Media
    Disc 2, Recovery Media 1
    Disc 3, Recovery Media 2
    Disc 4, Recovery Media 3
    Notes:
HD Boot time = 41.4 seconds
SSD Boot time = 29.6 seconds
This is with little software installed. With more programs installed the boot up time will increase. Keep in mind the first phase of boot up consists of BIOS and hardware communications. With many programs installed the SSD will really be nice.  The Registry loading will be totally SSD dependent and fast.
HD partitions and size before SSD installation.
    Lenovo Recovery partition = 9.67GB used + 5.94GB free = 15.63GB
    System Drive partition = 3.34MB used + 865MB free = 1.17GB
    Local Disk C partition = 27.9 GB used + 420 GB free = 448.96 GB
    Total GB = 465.76
    Window Performance test.
    4GB RAM installed
    7.1          Processor
    5.9          RAM
    4.7          Graphics
    6.4          Gaming Graphics
    5.9          HD
    8GB RAM installed
    7.1          Processor
    7.5          RAM
    5.9          Graphics
    6.4          Gaming Graphics
    5.9          HD
    SSD and 8GB RAM installed
    7.1          Processor
    7.5          RAM
    5.9          Graphics
    6.4          Gaming Graphics
    7.1          HD
    Adding SSD card
(I used the MyDigitalSSD 128GB 50mm Bullet Proof mSATA  PCI-e drive. Some SSDs are a little faster but cost much more.)
    Install SSD
Initialized SSD card in My Computer, Manage, Disk Drives
Turn off laptop and remove HD
    Boot to Recovery discs
Restore to factory default. (The Recovery disks only have the SSD to restore to)
When finished you can test the operation of your laptop on the SSD drive. Test by going into your BIOS to make sure you know how to get there. Boot using F1 for BIOS setup.
Turn off the laptop and install the hard drive.
Boot to BIOS (Do this first before booting Windows)
Remove HD from boot sequence. Go ahead and setup your boot sequence to something like SSD, DVD, and then USB, etc. Do not include the HD
Then I go to My Computer, Manage, Disk Drives and I do some major changes here.
You must make your own decisions. The SSD drive is prime real-estate and a 20GB recovery partition is out of the question (for me). The Recovery discs have been created. I decided to merge partitions on the SSD drive. Windows 7 Pro will handle this easily on the active drive. Now, there are actually 2 smaller partitions and the smaller 1GB partition cannot be removed. Apparently the operating system needs it. The larger 19GB partition can easily be removed and added to the C drive. No 3rd party partitioning software is needed with Windows 7 Professional.  Go to Start, right click My Computer, left click Manage. Select Disk Management. Select the Lenovo_Recovery partition and remove it. Now select the primary partition (C: drive) and select merge. Use the full size of the deleted partition space. The System_Drv partition could not be removed on my SSD. It is only 1.17GB and probably essential.
Change drive letters in Manage, Disk Management. Fortunately the main drive was named the C drive. I do not think you can change the drive letter of the active drive partition for some operating systems. After reinstalling the HD there is no telling what letter Windows will give it. Rename it to D drive if you want to. You can also remove the Recovery partition on the hard drive. I decided to depend totally on my backup restore DVDs and knowing Lenovo would send me another copy if needed.
The computer controls the use of the 2 video card functions but it can also be controlled in the BIOS.
Your warrantee is not void if you install the memory or SSD.  The machine is designed for those additions.  The installation of my extra memory was a tight fit. Be careful. Don’t use metal tools or do anything stupid.
Notes: Boot to F11 for recovery. F12 for selecting boot device. Boot using F1 for BIOS setup. The ThinkAdvantage button takes you to a variety of places. I don’t really know where it goes.
Now if you are looking for the User’s Guide you will only find the Hardware Manual. It takes the place of the User Guide and is formatted a little differently. It is OK.
Most other attributes of the laptop are on the selection menus on the Lenovo web site. You can get just about anything you want except the T420 did not have a Blu Ray player at the time I ordered mine. It did not have a GPS option but it could be obtained via 3G subscriptions using telephone towers. If you want a real GPS you can buy many 3rd party USB modules that will tell you where you are at using global satellites.

  • Elements 11 - Lenovo T420 - Panasonic Camcorder SDR-H100 - Clips in .MOD - clips are all squashed.- tried changing to .MOV . Please Help

Lenovo T420 computer - Using Panasonic Camcorder SDR-H100 which produces it's clips in .MOD format(tried changing to MOV - no change)  using Elements 11 frames are all squashed - what am I missing? Please help -I can load the clips into windows movie maker and they work fine.

The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.
See also this post from Chris at JVC dated March 4, 2010 at the end of this thread:

  • High Pitched Sound from X61 -- sent in for repair

So, since the very beginning of my Lenovo Thinkpad ownership I have experienced a high pitched noise when on High Performance battery power.
So I just switched it to Power Saver mode and forgot about it (Busy student, hard to find time to go weeks without computer)
So recently I sent it in to Lenovo. They replaced the motherboard and the hdd.
I recieved it today, only to find that it is still quite prevalent.
I'm wondering how many have went through the repair service for the same problem. Also, do they at the repair center just put parts in and hope it fixes it without checking?
I called and they told me it will be on escalated priority (has anyone ever been told this?) and the box will get here tomrw. Thankfully I live in Memphis where a repair center is right around the corner. (However, I go back to school the 14th)
They told me they will be replacing the fan. I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound like the fan. What can I expect from lenovo if they can't fix this problem?
    Thanks,
