No sound from .mov file in timeline

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me with this question! I want to use a .mov clip downloaded from the web in a project. I can play the audio and video just fine in the canvas, it has 2 audio tracks and all seems well. But when I drag the clip into the timeline, only the video appears in the timeline, no audio. The 2 audio tracks aren't transferred. I am stumped!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Well after my 3rd attempt at converting it with Streamclip I can now use that file just fine in the timeline, audio & video are both there. Don't really now what the difference could have been between that attempt and the first two as the settings were all the same and all conversions seemed to run completely. In any event, the problem now seems to be gone.
Thanks for all the help!

  • Extract sound from movie

    Hello.
    I have a question.
Is it possible that extract sound (.wav form) from movie file(.mov form)?
    Please give me a advice.
    Thanks.

Export the file from the PC as quicktime.
Either that or try MPEGStreamclip on the MPEG2 file to Demux the audio from the video.
    Cheers,

    Me again,
A friend suggested that I do a system restore.
I did a search for system restore in Windows 7 and got a very intuitive menu.
I selected an earlier system restore point and executed the restore.
After the computer restart I reloaded Firefox 5.0 and the Ask.com problem was corrected.
My friend says this approach may work about 25% of the time to fix this kind of problem. In my case it worked and I am happy.
    Thanks all.

  • OneStep DVD from movie file

The OneStep DVD from Movie file works fine for my 4:3 movies -- but I can't seem to figure out how to get my 16:9 movies to come out letterboxed when viewed on a standard screen. Is there some setting I can change to give me the results I need? I don't want or need anything more than a simple video that loops -- no theme, menu, etc -- so I haven't wanted to create a 'project'.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I found the solution to my problem of burning a letterboxed SD 16:9 movie with iDVD on another forum and it worked like a charm! Details below:
    Name: Christopher S. Johnson
    Date: Nov 18, 2006 at 8:26:34 pm
Subject: Re: 16:9 and idvd 6
I'm not sure why but iDVD doesnt see the anamorphic flag on SD anamorphic QT movies. It WILL behave properly for HD QT files though.
This is the "Christopher S. Johnsnon" work around:
Open your anamorphic SD QT movie in QT player Pro.
    Press Command-J
Highlight the Video settings in the list
Select Visual Settings in the tabs
    UN-check Preserve Aspect Ratio
Change the width from 720 to 854
    Hit Return and
    Save the movie
Now bring it back into iDVD and you are good to go!!!

  • Scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3s files

I'm having really horrible scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3 files. AAC encoded files play extremely clearly on iTunes 10.5

After reviewing all comments, it appears that this issue is squarely with the 10.5 upgrade that Apple did on I tunes. I have done all the uninstall and re-install that you can do.  Songs play fine on some, terrible on others, but yet they all will play on Windows Media Player. I can't believe it is the chipset for those that AMD processors, because everything was fine on the 10.4.  So,  Apple please fix this or offer us a way to uninstall from the 10.5 to the 10.4 where everything should be okay.   Awaiting your reply with thousands of others!

  • Extracting video metadata from .mov files using QuickTime SDK for Windows

I'm trying to create a service which will process .mov files and extract some statistical information from it, such as length, bitrate, video height / width , and if it's possible info about audio, such as audio levels number of channels etc.
I've downloaded a sample application which came with SDK and it uses a visual control (Asp.net) to load file url into and then extracts a Movie object which has most of the info I need.
    problem:
I don't have ability to load a visual control as my program is a service application. Can someone tell me how it's possible to load movie object without using visual control and fetch all the metadata I need.
    Thanks

QT does not export sound from muxed mpeg files: QT Mpeg Limitations. This freeware should do the trick: Mpeg StreamClip
If the mpegs in question are mpeg-2 you will need to buy the mpeg2playbackcomponent from Apple ($20 US). Note that these programs will not work with encrypted Hollywood movies.

  • No sound from shockwave files

I am running OS 10.4.9 on a G5 iMac. Recently I discovered that Shockwave files will not play sound. I upgraded to Quicktme7.1.6 and have a hunch (from what I've read here) that it may be the culprit. I installed the Flash Player 9 upgrade. Still no sound. This occurs when using Test Movie in Flash (ver. MX2004), Quicktime Player or Safari or other browser to play the files. Also any sounds imported into Flash will not play in Test Movie or by using the play button in the Library in Flash. Mov files play fine in Quicktime Player. However, when I try to export files as Quicktime from Flash i get the message "The installed version of Quicktime does not have a handler for this type of macromedia Flash movie." Also when I try to paste a pdf document copied from Preview into Freehand MX, I get an error message "QuickTime™ and a TIFF (LZW) decompressor are needed to see this picture". All this leads me to think the problem is with Quicktime. I'd like to reinstall 7.1.5, but it appears to be quite the undertaking. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Hi David
The flash file plays --no sound. Is there supposed to be? Anyway, I don't necessarily want to make a Quicktime movie from a flash file...just that if I try to do it (export to a Quicktime) I get an error. And still no sound. I'm thinking at this point that reinstalling the system files and going back to Quicktime 7.1.5 may be necessary. I was hoping to avoid that. Also appreciate that you are using Flash MX2004 with QT7.1.6 with no problems. At first i thought that my older version of flash may not work with a newer version of QT, but obviously that's not the problem.
i may try the "Genius Bar" at the local Mac store before i get into the whole reinstall thing.
Thanks for your help. If you or anyone else for that matter has any more ideas, I will keep checking back.
    Thanks again.

  • No sound in .mov file

I get video, but no sound when I import a .mov file into CS3.  The file will open and play correctly in quicktime player, and using quicktime's movie inspector the file information is H.264, 720x540, AAC, stereo, 48 kHz.
    Any help appreciated.

Solved the problem by updating Quicktime from 7.55 to 7.6.

  • Replace sound on .mov files?

    Hi all,
I have some .mov-files from a portable video camera. I want to remove the sound and replace it with better mp3 recordings.
I've tried a lot of programs and formats etc.. but I always end up with bad picture quality.
    Does anybody have a solution?
    Many thanks,
    Andreas

Sorry, my bad - you already mentioned that it is H.264, about which more here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/h264/faq.html
As you can see these should play in Quicktime 7.5.5 which you presumably have?
    As for the missing audio:
Your audio settings may have been changed.
    1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
    2. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
    3. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.

  • No sound from m4v files after update to IOS 5.1

    Hello
After updating my AppleTV3 to IOS 5.1 there is no sound from mine .M4V files.
MP4 plays just fine. My apple TV is connected to LAN, and uses HDMI through my receiver.
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Bought a new ATV3 and updated software.  Gives me picture, but no sound when I play movie trailers on the Apple service.  Also, no sound when I play purchased movies.  These same trailers and movies play through my ATV1.  Installed my new HDMI cable on the ATV1.  No change.
I'm not interested in plugging directly into the TV.  As I use an HDMI switch, the ATV3 follows the same path through the receiver.
Right now the thing is just a paper weight.  Doesn't give me sound when mirroring from my iPad which was my reason for buying it.

Any ideas or possible solutions to this problem?
Again, same camera, same computer, same everything, however a few that wont import while the majority will.

  • Getting a general error message in FCE when putting .mov file onto timeline

Putting a .mov film onto the timeline above a moving image so we see the mov file playing in a reduced size in the background of whats going on ( a window). Don't know why this is happening but any advice would be appreciated!
We are really stuck so any help would be so appreciated!
    thanks.

Its converted to an mpeg4 file but i think it may be the fact it is running at 30fps as oppose to the rest of the project which is 25fps. When I try to put it on the timeline it gives me the general error and then the footage which was on below it on timeline no longer exists. Very strange.
