No Sound from my Boston Acoustic Speakers

My Boston Acoustic BA7500G speakers and sub woofer simply don't work with my (relatively) new iMac Intel Duo Core. I'm running Tiger OS X 10.4.10. These speakers/subwoofer work fine with my PC, and a cheaper set of Yamaha speakers I have lying around work fine plugged into the Mac. I've tried switching out wires, powering up and down, etc... Is there a software issue or upgrade required for my soundcard or operating system?
Any (useful) advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Marcus.... I spent a lot of time reading up on this issue, and what you described is the standard fix...however, when I get to the menu?you describe, there is no option box for me to check/uncheck digital on/off. I have an older Dell precision with a SB card, and it DOES have this digital on/off option. From what I can learn, the only way with my particular card to achieve digital out sound is to use the optical jacks. All the other jacks are analog, and I'm guessing that my digital speakers don't recognize the analog signal out? I'm not technical enough to know that for sure, but I can't figure out a way to make my speakers work, and of course they use the standard phono jack (single) and not an optical connection. I'm still hoping that someone from Creative will notice this thread and provide me with a fix. However, Creative has completely isolated themselves from being contacted. The Boston speakers are actually really good, and I hate to get rid of them...but since I have no sound I suppose I have no other choice...by the way, I've tried a different set of speakers (non digital) with my new Dell, and they don't work either....headphones do work, so I believe the soundcard is working....can't anyone help me? Please?!!?

Have you "reset" the device? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430..I'd also stop all of the apps with the double-tap-on-the-home-button method.

VFL Speaker sound from both the front speakers while FR sound is not coming out at all.

I have a creative gigaworks s750 connected to a xtreme gamer sound card. The system was working absolutely fine but now it has started behaving very strangely; system is playing back Front Left Speaker sound from both the front speakers while Front Right sound is not coming out at all. If i click the front right speaker in audio console speaker setup wizard, no sound comes. However when i click the front left speaker, sound comes out of both speakers. I counter checked it with playing 5.1 dts movie and muting all the speakers except the front left one from ac3 filter, sound came out of both the front speakers. However when i muted all the channel except the front right, no sound was coming out of front right speaker.

Just want to add another relieved reader of this thread. I had lost the sound to my speakers even though I had sound to headphones. I was convinced it was a damaged headphone jack because I had pushed the headphone plug in harder the last evening when my wife complained that she could still hear the speakers while I listened with the headphones. The next morning--no speaker sound.
I spent a few hours searching the web to see how to disassemble a satellite A505 and get to the jack. But I wasn't even sure I could get a proper replacement jack that fit, and I was concerned that small damage, say to the ribbon connectors could render the computer useless--a large price to pay for just missing audio.
Fortunately, I stumbled onto this thread and I recalled I had put the unit to sleep the night before--something I don't usually do, but I didn't want all the Chrome web sites to have to reload so I just put it to sleep.
When I put it to sleep again and fired it up--Sound! I am so glad to find this solution so I just want to let people know it remains a viable option.

No sound from internal or external speakers

Imac 27" mid-2011 running Maverics 10.9.3 I'm not getting any sound from internal or ext. speakers. I can hear the startup sound when booting up.
System Preferences->Sound only shows Digital Out for OUTPUT and Output Volume is maxed and can't be adjusted. Mute is NOT checked.
I've done an SMC and PRAM reset with no change. I've tried multiple times plugging and unplugging the external speaker cable jack.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.

How can I send sound from microphone to Bluetooth speakers? They work from the music app but not from an internal or external microphone. Is this a setup issue or is there a work around?

I don't know of any way to do that.

I have for a while now had the problem that I only get sound from the computer's speakers even though i plug in the headphones, I have rebooted the computer but still the same problem occurs. So i thought there might be someting wrong in the settings, when i open the soundsettings and plug in my headphones nothing happens, usually I believe there should be a text appearing that says that the sound is now going to headphones, am I right? any how, it still just sends the sound out to the speakers and there is no option to send it else where then "soundflower 2ch and soundflower 16ch".
I do have an external sound card, for music recording, that goes through USB, and when i plug that in i get the option to send the sound to that device and also to recive sound and i can also choose if i want to sent it to the computer's speakers. So could it be someting wrong with the headphone jack?

Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.

i have a audgity 2 zs card and i have 5. speakers, im not reciving any sound from the 2 rear speakers, i've tryed downloading the lastest drivers, checked all the wirering everything is in its rightful place but why am i getting no sound? i know the speakers work coz i've swaped where there pluged in and thay play no problem.. i've looked at the back of the pc and you have the 3 coloured holes where the clour coded wires go in all it seem that u dont get any sound form the black hole.. is the card fautly? this is really winding me up, i just cant figger it out! plz help me.. woman in distress!!LOL

When you're playing anything that isn't a true Dolby Digital 5. source (with an encoded AC3 stream), like a game or music, you will only get stereo over a digital connection. Yes I know all that.But even if it's not a AC3 signal, like when you play a stereo MP3 file, shouldn't the Dolby Digital led on th external decoder be on anyways? Since it does transfer from a Digital out to a Digital in. I say this, because when using my internal Dolby Digital feature (nVidia Soundstorm) from the coaxial SPDIF out to the Inspire 5500's coaxial digital in, the Dolby Digital led is always on. I know it's no real 5. DD, but it is a digital signal, so it detects it and triggers the led.So I expect this to be the case with the Audigy 2 SZ too.

Sound from Mac Pro USB speakers fail

Sound from the USB ports on my Mac Pro (Early 2009) fail after a couple of seconds. Sound can still be heard from the Internal Speakers. I have replaced the USB speakers with several types and brands. Problem remains. I can get sound for several second then it quits and can not be restarted.

Try smc and pram reset.
See if everything looks ok in Audio MIDI Setup (in Utilities).

5. surround sound was working fine until some software changes took place (however, I dont know which was directly related)
A) Intel Chipset update from A to 7.2.2.006, A3
1. It fixes issue with USB keyboard/mouse hang until reboot while installing.
2. It fixes yellow bang in USB controller in Device Manager on a system with USB keyboard/mouse while installing.
3. It fixes a bug where a 3rd party SMBus driver was being overwritten.
4. It fixes Installshield issue with silent mode.
5. It fixes issue in PCIUtility.sys during install on 64-bit OS.
6. It fixes untranslated language strings.
B) Some Microsoft AutoUpdates
didn't discover the loss of front speakers until several updates had run. Restored back to December 08 without any improvements.
After the chipset update, I de-installed all SB and Sigmatel drivers
Then Re-installed the SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio driver
and then re-ran the SB Installation CD
still, no front r/l sound
then, i ran the Creative AutoUpdate application and installed recommended updates.
still no sound front l/r --
i switched the rear l/r cable with front, so i know the speakers are fine.
what else can i do
how can i tell if the sound board is faulty

I used the Creative Diagnostic application's Speaker Test and after hitting Restore Defaults, the front right speaker is not as quiet, though still much quieter and muffled. Still no sound from the subwoofer.

No sound from both jack and speakers of my hp pavilion laptop

I'm not getting any sound from the speakers or headphones on my HP 2000 Note Book PC. When I try to test the speakers I get an error message saying, "The device is being used by other application.Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and then try again".

Inpire P5800 : No sound from center and rear speakers

I have just bought the Inspire P5800 speakers system (5.1) and only the two front speakers and the buffer produce sound. The problem may come from the fact I have an single output audio card (RealTek AC'97). Is there anything to do to have the sound coming out from the 5 speakers (expect buying a 5.1 audio card) ? I read my audio files with winamp and WMP.

I would really appreciate if somebody could reply to my query. Its been very frustating here.
In the meanwhile I have done the following troubleshooting more :
1) Took a head set and connected to all ports at the back of the sound card. Sound is coming from there.
2) Went ahead and removed the creative drive and the application.
3) did a search in the registry with the keyword as "Creative". Removed all entries that were found.
4) Reinstaled the latest drivers and the application.
5) Tried he card ina different PCI slot.
But everything has been to no avail. There is still no sound from the rear and front center speakers. Its really driving me nuts.
It seems as if the souncard is passing the signal to the sub woofer but it is not directing it to both these channels.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

and varying sound levels from the other 3.
L-front is loud, L back is medium, Center is soft and R-Front and Back are not doing much when playing music. I ran the SB spekaer diagnostics and get sound from all fi've,though in varying strengths. When trying to calibrate, I get sound from all as well, but again varying from too loud to very soft. Tired CMSS without success. The speakers used to work fine, but since I hung them to the ceiling it has been as described above (maybe they are afraid of heights ?). I am truly baffled and have spent over 8 hours on it, so appreciate help......

I have checked the cabling. When I run the diagnostics all give sound, and equally strong. This I presume means that there is some kind of software conflict. I have the limited sound regardless of what I do (iTunes, DVD, WMP). The speakers are Logitech, but like I mentioned they worked fine before I hung them to the ceiling.
Is there some feature (other than the standard callibrating which I have already tried) that automatically sets speakers to give an optimal surroung sound (by pinpointing the place where you most often are) ? That way I may be able to override whatever is causing the blockage.

Upgraded to Windows 7 and no sound from built-in monitor speakers

I've upgraded my HP Pavilion Media Center a1450n Desktop PC to Windows 7 successfully with the exception of sound. My speakers are built-in to my HP vs17e 17 inch LCD Monitor and Windows 7 cannot detect my built in speakers, I have downloaded most every sound driver out there currently is there something I'm missing? Can somebody help draw sound from my built-in monitor speakers on OS Windows 7?

Ipod doesn't produce stereo sound from iphone built-in speakers?

I've had my iphone for some time now, but just noticed that when playing music from the ipod built-in to the iphone, the music is only coming from one speaker (the one on the bottom left).
Is that normal? I would assume both speakers would be used?
I checked the settings and couldn't find a setting for "stereo sound" and did a forum search and couldn't find an answer.

IDT driver update = No sound from the built-in speakers

I just recently bought an HP - dv6 WF536AV Laptop.
The sounds were proper from the built-in Altec Lansing speakers , till i updated the audio drivers via HP Support Utility.
Now i do not get any playback from the speakers mentioned above, but while plugging in my iPod headphones, there is audio in the headphones.
I've tried to reinstall the IDT Audio driver from the HP Support utility as well as one downloaded from the website :

Yet, nothing is resolved.
Of what i understood from various articles on the web, was that the new driver sets the headphone jack as the primary device for audio output and hence it does not reach the speakers.
Also , I'm pretty sure of this not being a hardware conflict since the laptop is recently purchased and i've rarely used the headphone jack.

Hi,
From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and then open Device Manager. Click the small arrow next to Sound Video and Game Controllers, right click on the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and select Properties. Click the Driver tab then click on 'Roll back Driver'. Click yes or Ok to any further prompts and let the process complete. Reboot the PC and see if your sound is back. If it is not repeat this process again.
