No sound from my videos.

i have a lot of files that i just imported into my new mac, but the videos have no sound when playing thru qt. how do i recover the audio for these? i am using the mac os snow leopard 10.6.4

Welcome to the forums!
You don't say what kind of files they are, but:
Your audio settings may have been changed.
1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
2. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
3. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.

  • When I closde a page where there has been a video, ie youtube or the like, the sound from that video that had played will continuw to run. I can close Firefox and upload it again and still will the sound of the video continuew to run. WHY?

When I close a youtube video or some other video and even after closing the tab the sound from the video continue to be played. As a matter of fact I have even closed Firefox and re-started Firefox and it plays again. I even went and turned off the computer and re-started the computer and then Firexox and the video sound was still there playing. WHY is this happening???.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • How do I mute the sound from the video camera when burning a DVD

Hi there.  I'm a new user of Elements 8.  I have compiled some clips and added a soundtrack to the movie,  When you preview the file you don't hear the sound from the video camera but when I burn it to a DVD you still hear the video background.  How do I burn the DVD without the background sound from the video camera?  On the DVD I only want to hear the soundtrack I added.
    Thank you,
    Doug

Thanks guys.  Both options worked.  Dowside to deleting audio (option I went with) appears to be that you lose the audio forever.  So if I ever wanted to bring the audio back I wouldn't be able to.
You are partially correct in that the Audio is no longer on your Timeline. It is still in your Project Panel, and you can move it back to your Timeline if ever needed. The complete removal from the Timeline is why I work with the Audio Mixer in cases like this. Also, on could alter the Gain on a Clip by Clip basis.
With using the audio mixer it appeared I had to mute each clip separately.  When I highlighted all the clips and selected mute for audio 1 it wouldn't mute all of the selected clips.
The Audio Mixer works at the Track-level, and not at the Clip-level. That is why I use it so often - one click, or slider adjustment affects the entire chosen Track. If it did not work at a Track-level for you, something is wrong. Now, if one has Clips on different Tracks, then Muting of all of those would be required, or one would have address things on a Clip-level basis.
Any way to use the audio mixer to mute the clips in mass?
See above for how it should work, and also the exceptions - Audio on several Audio Tracks.
Good luck, and remember that your Audio still resides in the Project Panel, should you ever need it again.

  • HT4528 Can I save a sound from a video into a ringtone?

I want to save sounds from a video taken on my iPhone 5 to use as a ringtone. Is this possible and how?

Export into computer - extract sound - upload to phone.

  • Can I stream the sound from a video running on my apple tv to my wireless speakers using airplay?

I have living room speakers connected to an airport express and available via airplay from my computer, ipad2 and iphone which is great for playing music. My question is, can I use those speakers to play sound from videos running on my apple tv? For instance if I use airplay to run a video on apple tv from my computer or iOS device, can I have the audio play on my speakers connected to an airport express? It would be amazing to be able to use the speakers simultaneously with the apple tv as they are both on the same home sharing network. Possible?

No. But, are your speakers only connected to the AE or are they also connected to an amplifier?
You would need to use a Toslink cable to go from the Apple TV to the speakers/amp.
I don't use this or know a lot about it, but it is wildly popular, inexpensive and may be of help:

  • I-movie 9 removing sound from imported video

I cannot using any instructions I can find remove sound from an imported video.
It was very easy in i-movie HD, but in that I could not speed up the soundless video to match a voice-over added just as easily.
Whatever I did, the Detach Audio remained grey and unusable.
Can anyone tell me which is supposed to be better - i-movie 9 or i-movie HD?
WHy do they have two systems running in parallel?
    All clues welcome

    Hi
    Which I could help. Can't.
Can anyone tell me which is supposed to be better - i-movie 9 or i-movie HD?
Yes. iMovie 1 to HD6 and iMovie'08 & 09 are two totally different products - not related
in any close way at all.
iMovie'08 & 09 are Wrongly named - so that they most often are misstaken to be related.
    Yes -
    • iMovie 1 to HD6 are supperior - IF YOU use miniDV (interlaced SD-video) and aim to make a DVD
    • iMovie'08 & 09 are for material from newer HD, hard disk, memory card and mini DVD Cameras
and are aimed for quick editing and web publishing. (DVDs will not be as good as they can)
Yours very understanding - and whiching that I was of more help - Bengt W

  • How do I remove the sound from a video project and replace with music...?

Hi there to all...I would like to know how you remove the original sound from a movie (using iMovie) so you dont hear it through any music added...?

Select the video clip and open the clip inspector to the video tab. You can set the volume slider to zero.
You can apply this to a bunch of clips at once.
    Do the first one.
    Then Edit/Copy.
Then Select the clips to apply it to by select while holding command key. (or EDIT/SELECT ALL to get all clips)
    Then EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS

  • Recording does not capture sound from a Video

    Hi,
I am creating a full screen recording and part of the
recording is opening a video file (WMV file) but after the
recording when I play-back the file I've notice that the sound that
coming from the video that was opened was not recorded only the
video itself no sound eventhough my speaker is already loud enough.
What do you think is the problem? Thanks.
    Eric

    Hi Eric
I don't believe Captivate can capture that kind of audio. But
    how about a workaround?
Head over to the link below:
    http://www.applian.com/sound-recorder
Download and install the FreeCorder application. (It's free!)
Then record the audio separately and just add it to your Captivate
    project.
    Cheers... Rick

  • No add-on sounds, but sounds from websites [video, etc] are just fine.

But the download completed sound from download status bar or down them all are not working. I've already looked at my 'mixer' under the volume control on Win7, I also went from Firefox 11.0 to Aurora 12.0a2 with still no sound. All add-ons are up to date as are the plug-ins.
02/09/2012 Nobody else seems to have this problem-- do moderators scan these questions to direct me?

    Hi
Yes I sure did. The problem was the E1 licence. The search webparts are not functional for this type of licence so if you want to use them you need E2 licences (or E1 wth SP plan 2)

  • Removing sound from embedded video

I have a flash video in a slide that I would like to remove the sound for. I have an mp3 file with audio that I want to go with the video rather than the audio from the actual video. How do I remove the audio from the embedded video?
    Thanks
    Sierra

    Hi there
There is no way I'm aware of to do this using only Captivate.
I'm thinking you will find that the only way to do this is by using some Video Editing software. Perhaps Premiere?

  • No sound from iPhoto videos

    Hi,
I saw that this questions was raised two years ago, but not answered. Hopefully someone today can help me.
Previously, the system worked fine. I could see and hear everything perfectly. I wanted faster performance, so I moved my iPhoto library from an external drive to /Users/<name>/Pictures. Now I can see the videos, but not hear them.
    Other details:
    1. Clips in projects have sound and video.
    2. The issue is ONLY with the clips in the iPhoto library.
    3. Videos imported to the Event Library sound fine.
    4. As an aside, the projects can't find the video unless I edit the XML to point to the new directory.
    System:
    OS X 10.9.5 (sorry, I won't upgrade yet)
    3GB RAM
    1T drive, 300+G free
iMovie '09 (build 8.0.6 (821)) (Can't upgrade unless I upgrade OSX. I shouldn't need to anyways. It worked before.)
Thanks in advance for your help.

What happens if you export the video to the desktop and then add to the email? Will it play from the desktop OK?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • No Sound from Flip video clips on iMac, but works on Mac Pro and Macbook

I just got a flip video camera today. I tried it out at work, made a quick video, imported it on my mac pro, and it worked fine. I came home took some videos, went on my iMac(24 inch core 2 duo) and was surpised that the videos imported without sound. After searching the web, I didn't find any concrete solutions, just some suggestions that pointed towards codecs. Since nothing worked, I sent the file to my wife's macbook pro to try it out. The same AVI file on her computer plays sound. Now I am totally confused.
    Any ideas?

The sound is on, and other files and applications play sound.
In fact, in iMovie 09, there is sound. But there is no sound in quicktime, VLC player, the flipshare software the camera works with, and if I upload to youtube via the iMac there is no sound on the youtube video, but if I upload the file to youtube from the macbook pro, there is sound.
I don't know what to try next.

  • How to "demux" a video i.e. get sound from a video?

I got the following tips from the apple site but does anyone knows where I can get a 3rd party program to deal with this problem (videos which are "muxed"?
"When you export a video (like VCD) for iPod play, you may come across a situation in which the converted video doesn't contain any audio when you play the file in QuickTime Player, iTunes, or on your iPod. If this is the case, the original video file may be in a format that contains muxed (multilplexed) audio and video, and cannot be exported with audio.
To determine if your movie file is muxed, follow these steps:
Open the original movie file in QuickTime Player.
From the Window menu, choose Show Movie Info.
Click the More Info disclosure triangle in the Movie Info window (if it's closed).
Note the entry next to Format.
If the format is "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed," the audio portion of the file may not be retained with QuickTime Pro or iMovie. You may want to consider using a third-party utility to convert the muxed file to a format that does allow you to edit or export (known as demuxing).

    Hi, iPodian!
MPEG Streamclip is a good tool.
You can also check out the following two links:
    http://shep.thefridgeowl.com/tutorial/files/0SEx.html
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9830
Hope this helps you out with demuxing/converting the audio.
Also, here's a tool for changing AC3 audio to AAC, which you may find useful, since the iPod can't handle AC3 audio files and you may run into this on some of the rips you do:

  • Can I saparate the sound from my video?

I am using my iSight camera and iMovie to make a video clip but the sound is out of sync. I sthere a way to correct this? Can I separarte the video and the sound?

I don't have an iSight so am not sure what format it records in, but in general, you can pick a clip in iMovie and then use the Extract Audio command to make a separate copy of the audio (iMovie will then automatically mute the audio in the clip itself). You can then move the extracted audio around to get the sync back.
