No Sound From SOME Real Instrument Tracks

All tracks (real, software & guitar) are recording properly and play back is fine. Then out of the blue a previously recorded real instrument track will not play back. Software tracks are playing and "blue" drum loops are playing back back, but not real bass or real guitar tracks.
The wave files are there and the activity is visible. The volume meters are moving, but there is no sound. The track is not muted and no tracks are in solo mode.
I can copy and paste the tracks and they play again, BUT they loose quality and all of the sequencing, as far as where the region sits in the song, is lost.
Any one know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to play back real instrument tracks

greetings - i've been working on a song in Garage Band for a couple of years. the back story is that this file has grown to 2.5GB in size (all my other GB files are a lot less). it has about 10 real instrument tracks and 6 software tracks. Yesterday while working on the file a strange thing started happening; the first (of 3) software piano track started playing back intermittently with a bunch of reverb; i had not requested that it have reverb. i tried removing reverb, i tried soloing and unsoloing, muting and unmuting, and sometimes that would get rid of the reverb. so that was anomaly #1 yesterday. Finally, after finishing the session and saving/ closing the file, i wanted to make a backup copy so did command-D. Possible anomaly #2: when the original file and the backup file names appeared in the window, i renamed both; then i realized that the Mac was still in the process of copying the file; so i don't know if that renaming introduced a problem. Once the backup was finished, i opened the file (and the backup file, subsequently), and the REAL instrument tracks (plus the first midi piano track i laid down) NO LONGER MAKE ANY SOUND. the software drums, flute, and pianos 2&3 play back;  the vocal sounds like the reverb is playing back but not the original track (i assigned basic female reverb to the vocal track). Everything visually still seems to be present in the file - all the details of instrument, level, pan, etc. but i'm getting no sound from the real instrument tracks or the 1st software piano track. i have TRIED all the suggestions for optimizing performance given in GB help. i am stuck and truly hope my arrangement will once again sound! many thanks in advance for any suggestions; Matthew Allen

try toggling the Ducking menuItem, that's solved some similar issues
(and you can safely ignore the post about 8 tracks, it's not relevant)

  • Real Instruments Tracks Not Playing

In one of my songs, the real instruments do not play. However, I can hear the reverb and echo for these tracks. The tracks still respond to editing. The drum loop and Software Piano play just fine.
Last night, all tracks worked properly, even after deleting a real instrument track. I saved and shut down for the night.
After booting up today, the remaining real instrument tracks have only very minimal volume; really, just a faint whisper. Track info remains the same and I can see some real instrument track monitor activity, but that's about it for the real instruments.
In response to some earlier advice, I created a new Real Instrument and/or a Software Track and see if they are soloed. Nothing, no "hidden" soloed Track.
The real instrument tracks remain silent, though fully editable.
    Any assistance would be great.

I went into the master track to see what's going on.
Ducking option was not highlighted, so I clicked on it just to see what would happen. It unlocked all locked tracks, but not the real instruments for some reason. Then, I removed Ducking option.
All real instruments have returned. Problem resolved.
It was something to do with Ducking.
Each day I learn something new. Life is good.

  • Real instrument track to software track?

    Hi,
is it possible to convert a real instrument track back to a software track? Since Garageband has a real instrument tuner built in, it should have everything needed built in to recognize the notes of the real instrument track.
That would be even cooler in real time: imagine striking some notes on your guitar and hear a piano sound in realtime ...
    Any ideas?
    Tom
      Other OS

yeah if you use melodine or some other software you may be able to.
but not inside garageband. apple currently don't support that...
converting software track to real instrument just means that creating audio file it's same as recording instruments yourself.

  • Can I get Notation when recording from a "Real Instrument"?

    Hi all,
I am plugging my Triton TR keyboard to my interface.
When in GB, I can record as a "software", and I can get the notation because I am using the soundbank of GB.
I would like to use the soundbank from my Triton TR, so I use 'Real' instrument, but at the bottom of the screen where it shows the details of what Im recording, I can only see waves, not the notation.
Can I see the notation that I am playing from the 'real' instrument?? Because I know that its receiving the information of 'what' I am playing because my midi is connected as well.
    Can anyone help?
    thanks a million

You can record midi and audio in parallel, so you can see the notes of what you played. But changes in the recorded midi track won't affect the audio, since you don't send midi out to trigger your keyboard's sounds.

  • GB keeps changing the tempo on my real instrument track!

Hey, newbie here with a problem. I know that by default GB will change real instrument tracks to match the project tempo. So whenever I create a new track for a real instrument, I open up the track editor to unclick the box for this option. First of all, it doesn't even let me access the box unless I first record something in the track. Then, even if I uncheck the box, as soon as I go to create a new track, GB changes the tempo and I see the box checked again! It's like the program wants to do this no matter what. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out. It's driving me nuts and made me waste a lot of time. Help!

To answer the last post you left in the GB1 forum...
You're still not understanding what I said. GB does not change the tempo of what you played to match the projects tempo UNLESS you change the tempo of the project after you've recorded the track.
There is an Enhance Timing feature you can turn on which will try to make your playing match the projects tempo, but here is the clearest example I can give:
If you set the project tempo to 40, and then you play some guitar at a tempo of 200, GB will not do anything to change that. Your playing will still be at 200BPM. All GB is in this case is a "Tape Recorder".

  • One real instrument track becomes blurry and delayed

    Hi,
I recorded two real instrument tracks in GB. I successfully recorded the first track and then the 2nd track, but when I returned to play the first track it sounded blurry and delayed while the 2nd one sounded fine. Why is this?
    Thanks

Is there a way to view the musical notation of a recorded instrument track?
    no, only MIDI

  • Why do I get so much noise when creating a real instrument track?

Why do I get so much noise when creating a real instrument track?

Creating a real instrument track is a very silent matter normally. Once you start recording, you can indeed pick up noise - but that depends on what you're recording, how you're recording etc. - you didn't tell us anything about it.

  • Cannot add a real instrument track

When I try to add a real instrument track It adds a software instrument track. I can add a basic track however I cannot hear any monitoring of my mic at all. I have it connected to a very basic mixer then into the computers audio in port. I also tried to record with an audio interface. Garage band does recognize the interface but again i cant hear anything or see any levels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you try the steps outlined in the link? those are the first things to try, especially with something that no one else is having a prob with.
    as for the mic:

and the interface (depending on its type, I'll list both possibilities):

  • Can't hear my real instrument tracks. Just the reverb in the background.

I opened a file, and when I play it, now I can't hear any real instrument tracks. I just hear the reverb of the tracks. Any clues on how to fix this?

  • Will Not Create Real Instrument Track

When I try to create a Real Instrument track nothing happens. Any ideas? I'm using GarageBand 3.0.5 (104.10)

I'm having the same problem and using the same version of GarageBand - 3.0.5 (104.10).
When I go to create a new track and choose "Real Instrument," the Track Info always says "Software Instrument" regardless of what I click. I'm trying to record a banjo without any pickups, so I can't plug in, but without being able to indicate that I'm recording a real instrument, I can't use the built in mic either.
    Please help!

  • No sound from some audio tracks ... help!

I am using GB 08 to add music to a movie for a friend's memorial. ( A keynote presentation exported as a QT movie)The Movie itself has no audio, I want to use a variety of songs that blend into each other.
I'm used to doing this with Final Cut, but decided that i should familiarize myself with Garage band this time.
I just added the 10th track and now can't get some of the other tracks to play. It's weird.
    Tracks 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 play, but 1, 3, 5, and 8 don't.
(i suppose i could just split the odd tracks and move the sections to the tracks that play, but that wouldn't really give me an answer for this)
I have volume level keypoints where the volume rises and drops, and this action does happen on the volume sliders, and the green levels are visible, but no sound.
None of the tracks are muted or soloed.
    Any suggestions for correcting this?
I've closed the program and restarted it and one time everything was fine, until I added that 10th track
    thanks for your help
    Elizabeth

Okay, thank you, I just tried it
I added a new basic track, it was not muted or soloed.
So i dragged my audio into this new track and it played fine
then i deleted this track and just simply dragged my audio into the composition, as I have been doing, to create it's own new track, which then also played fine, then I deleted this one.
then i added 2 basic tracks (since the problem seems to be with alternating tracks) and dragged music into them and they both work.
so I don't know how to make the problem recur with the new tracks, but the original tracks that I wrote of, still don't play.
Anyway, I've saved it as a version b and have been cutting and pasting the bits of the 'silent' tracks into the good tracks so that they play .... looks a bit like a mosaic but is working so far.
    very inconvenient though.
    Any more suggestions??

  • How do I create a new real instrument track?

I know this question sounds stupid, but i have plugged my m-audio fasttrack usb in and i have followed ALL of the instructions. now i can't seem to be able to hear my guitar through the computer speakers, and garageband isnt picking up a guitar signal. also, when i go to "new track" and i select "real instrument" i cant create the track because the button is not highlited (or whatever, i just can't click it) SOMEONE HELP!! ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Zowie! Thanks. I was goin' cuckoo, till I dropped in on this thread. I could record into Garage Band through the built-in mic in my PowerBook, but when I plugged in my cool little Tascam US-122 usb audio interface (even with all my input and output prefs properly set), I couldn't record a thing through a real mic. The sound inputs were definitely getting into the computer, but for some reason Garage Band wasn't recording them. I quit outta GB, then dumped the .plist and .cs prefs as you suggested. Re-opened GB and created a new track. Bingo! My Tascam unit now works like a charm. Thanks again, much.

  • No sound from my real VCR!

    Hi all,
I've got a MSI TV Anywhere Master.
Its connected to my TV Antenna (terrestrial Not digital) and its detected all 4 channels fine (yep I still can't channel 5 in this area! ).  And sound and picture is fine.
I can see video just fine, but no audio.  From live TV or recorded VCR cassette!
But when I tune to the channel my VCR is on.  All I can hear is a popping/clicking sound!!
The VCR is connected through the Coax antenna connection.
I've tried another VCR and still no sound, just pops/clicks!  But its outputting the TV signal down the same cable!!
So any help getting sound from the VCR to the card will be very well appreciated?
    Thanks all.

We don't have Channel 5 on our local TV transmitter, at all!  We can't even get Digital/Freeview.
But it could be that this VCR wasn't re-tuned for Ch5 though.  And its picking up some reception!  Someday I'll try and do a retune on it and see what happens
I'll report back here if it works.  So if I've not wrote a success in here then I'm still trying to get it working!
    Also tips for others:
If your remote control isn't working, make sure the InterVideo WinCinema Manager program is running!  I don't like programs running I don't know anything about, so one day I stopped it.  And then I found out my remote didn't work.  So the remote needs that program to work.
Also if your card every now and then looses sound for a second or less.  It could be from interference!  My card here cuts the sound for a second if a broadband transmission has happened.  A broadband transmission can be from a Light turning on, a Motor... otherwords an Electrical Spark.  My old TV card just did a loud crackle when it happened.  But this one cuts the sound off.
