No Sound from speakers but Headphones work on HP All-In-One 23-p142

I recently purchased my computer HP Pavillion 23-p142 with Windows 8.1 64bit on July 9, 2015 and everything was golden...couldn't be happier with it for my needs. Now, in just the last few days, the sound doesn't work at all. No sound from Windows Media Player, Youtube etc. Absolutley nothing. Not even system sounds. I've tried troubleshooting tips such as going into Computer Management> Services> Windows Audio and restarting that service...still no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers several times and it worked on the very first attempt then the sound went away again after a few hours. I'm at a loss for what to try next...Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.  PS. I forgot to mention my headphones work fine. And here are some screenshots of devices...if that helps with anything.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I have read your post on how you are not able to get sound from the speakers of your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! Do you speakers work on another computer? Is there any software you need to install to properly configure your speakers on your system? In the meantime, I recommend following the steps in this document on No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8). This should help return the sound to your computer using your speakers. I also recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point before the issue occurred. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • Sound is not coming out of speakers, but headphones work?

I have a Satellite L505-S5990 laptop. Today while I was sitting at home browsing the Internet, I realized there was no sound coming out of the speakers. It was working just fine minutes before. It was sitting on the counter the entire time and it just silently stopped working.
So I grabbed some headphones and plugged them in and they worked.
I restarted the computer, still no sound coming from speakers.
Windows 7 found no problems while troubleshooting the sound.
I downloaded the Automated Troubleshooting Services to diagnose and fix sound playback issues from Microsoft but that didn't find any issues.
I uninstalled the sound driver and installed the one that came with this laptop. I still get the same result. No sound from speakers but headphones work.
Can anyone please tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just want to add another relieved reader of this thread.  I had lost the sound to my speakers even though I had sound to headphones. I was convinced it was a damaged headphone jack because I had pushed the headphone plug in harder the last evening when my wife complained that she could still hear the speakers while I listened with the headphones.  The next morning--no speaker sound.
I spent a few hours searching the web to see how to disassemble a satellite A505 and get to the jack.  But I wasn't even sure I could get a proper replacement jack that fit, and I was concerned that small damage, say to the ribbon connectors could render the computer useless--a large price to pay for just missing audio.
Fortunately, I stumbled onto this thread and I recalled I had put the unit to sleep the night before--something I don't usually do, but I didn't want all the Chrome web sites to have to reload so I just put it to sleep.
When I put it to sleep again and fired it up--Sound!  I am so glad to find this solution so I just want to let people know it remains a viable option.

  • No sound from speakers or headphones on my hp pavilion dv6-6c50us

no sound from speakers or headphones on my hp pavilion dv6-6c50us.  Speakers are not muted and volume is up.  May have happened after a system update

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the relevant IDT Audio installer on the links below and save it to your Downloads folder.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 7.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 8.
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

have an HP G62 laptop.  I can no longer receive sound from speakers or from headphone jack.  If I plug speakers into usb - I will get sound.  Any ideas?

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

The only other thing I know to do is restore the hard drive to its original factory fresh contents.

How exactly did you fix it and what happened to break it?
Well I simply removed /var/lib/alsa/asound.state, and rebooted. Then the sound started working. Then I used a live-cd distro that I'm testing for my University, and when I rebooted the next time, the sound didn't work.

I haven't had time to try it. This morning, started working without doing anything... there must be trolls inside my laptop. I hope this time will continue working indefinitely.
    Thanks a lot for answering.
EDIT: Yesterday before shuting down my laptop I returned the configuration I had changed to its original state, so that could be the change that made my speakers work again this morning.

    realwiz,
There's a setting in the mixer software where it instruct the soundcard to mute the speaker when headphone is connected to the I/O dri've bay. Perhaps you can check if that setting has been enabled.

  • Hp pavilion g6 notebook PC. No sound from speakers or headphones

Hi, I just did all the recommended updates for my computer this week due to it working so slowly. It started working like new again with one problem, I now have absolutely no sound. A big problem for me since I use this laptop as a TV and love listening to my music. Product number: LW354UA#ABA. Serial number: [edited Serial Number by Moderator]. I hope this is enough information to get help.

  • A215 no sound from speakers, but sound with headsets

I have two A215-S5818 Satellite laptops.  One is a XP Pro build and one is a Windows 7 Ultimate build.  Neither unit has sound from the speakers but have sound from a headset.  The Win 7 versions has sound from the speakers if the headset is plugged in.  The XP unit only has sound via headsets.
The device manager is happy with both builds. I have no flags or unknows or question marks in the device manager.
Both units have every update from Microsoft.  The Win 7 unit is IE7 and the XP unit is IE8.
Have gone to Realtex site for the driver downloads without success.  Have purchased a recovery disk that included XP, VIsta WIn 7 drivers.  No help here.
My Bios is 1.0. I have seen two motherboards destroyed by BIOS update via windows and via a bootable CD.
Going to BIOS 2.0 is not an option unless Toshiba will do it and back it up with a new MB if it fails.  In fact I have sent one MB to a Toshiba qualified repair facility and they were unable to update to BIOS 2.0
Both units run nicely and all I want is sound from the built in speakers.
Anyone run into this headset only issue?

Hello, yes I have a new windows 7 home premium satellite L505, it has never had sound on the laptop speakers. A tiny sound indefinable without speakers from my old PC. Headphones are the same..no sound definable. I have called Toshiba 5 times, got hung up on 4. with the promise if the call was lost they would call back..that did not happen. The last contact there said wipe it out start over.  The speakers have been the same since it came out of the box. I really do not want to lug speakers with my laptop. I have looked at every download, fix that I knew, so far the speakers have to go where the laptop goes..so much for wireless..and customer service. I certainly would like some help from someone. The 4th person had me uninstall the realtek sound, so at the end of that call I did not even have that, I had to restore to get it back. I was told it would cost to get this fixed, or replaced.

  • Sound from speakers but not headphones

I have a iPod Mini that will only play sound when connected to a stereo and not the headphones. I have tried two sets of known good headphones with same result. I have also followed the '5 R's' on the iPod, but the problem of sound only when connected to a stereo persists. iPod is no longer under warranty.
Dell   Windows XP Pro   iPod mini 4GB

How is it connected to the stereo? Just through the headphones jack as if there were headphones, the headphones jack and the little thing next to it, or through the bottom?

  • Sound from speakers AND headphones

I'm getting sound out of the speakers when I plug in headphones on my G5. It goes mute when I first plug in the headphones, but then comes back on. If I go into System Prefs, it shows the headphones as being the line out. Also, if I click the Digital Out, it still comes out of the speakers. The speakers are JBL Creatures. Any ideas?

I have same exact problem, Did u contact to HP support? wat did they say?
Even HP support couldn't help me.... they asked me to troubleshoot in all ways and asked me to format but still i have that problem. They couldn't even replace or exchange my product(ENVY 4 Touchsmart 1215dx).
    Possible reasons why this happen:
    1. Hard drive isn't fast enough.
    2. Audio drivers not properly installed.
    3.VIA Chipset issue.
    4.Soundcard problem.
For me 1 & 2 are fine, so problem is between 3or 4 may be both.

  • No sound from speakers or headphone jack on M35X-S114

Help.  I haven't had sound on my laptop for quite sometime.  I don't know if it just a driver issue/conflict,  though I have downloaded the current RealTek Audio driver, which didn't help, or if my sound card is dead.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have tried, the volume control on the side is turned up. The card is enable and it states that the device is "working properly".  I have plugged headphones into the jack and still have no sound.  I have tried the troubleshooting and that still didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanking you in advance!

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

  • Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

    Hello,
    I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
    1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
    2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
    So to summarize:
    1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
    2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Sergio
