No sound from subwoofer str-dn1050

I have a new Sony STR-DN1050 Receiver matched with a SA-CS9 Subwoofer that emits a test tone correctly so appears it is setup right but when music is playing (or TV/Movies) there is no sound coming from the Sub. I have turned the levels up as high as possible and still notice nothing. I have also tried running through all the preset options in the menus without success. As mentioned - the test tone works fine and the receiver configuration is set up as per the correct speaker configuration in the receiver menu. The SSCS310CR speakers sound rather lacklusture with the depth I had hoped to recieve by have a subwoofer so any assistance would be appreciated.

Sorted - speaker settings were on "large"...needed to be on "small". Suddenly the sub does more than collect dust.

    No sound from Subwoofer.
Audigy 2 value soundcard is connected by analogue to a Sony receiver to 5. inputs, and it is hooked to a 5. speaker system. (5 sattelites and a subwoofer) There is no sound coming from the subwoofer when watching DVDs in 5., music (with CMSS) or games. So naturally it sounds awfull with no bass. (this system works ok with cd or dvd from the hifi). The audigy 2 value used to be connected to the creative inspire 5. speakers on my old computer and it worked fine. PLease help.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards

Go to EAX panel and uncheck all effects. Now you should get 20% volume on the sub.
Go buy an ARTcessories HEADAMP, like I did, and?some cables/adapters from a Hosa distributor to boost your ctr/sub 3.5mm output of the 2zs.
Output levels way too low for subwoofer no matter what you can do. Regardless of the impedance load on the output.
I hooked up an o-scope and measured it, being the FCC certified tech I am since '7, now senior engineer for the USCG Academy ship simulators facility.

subwoofer doesn't make sound unless you have sound below 100hz (or the cut-off frequency you set). Could it be the cable, or what music you're trying to play just don't have any sound hit below the cut-off frequency.
You've just hit the nail on the head there.
It apears the test speaker function only works with the speakers and not the subwoofer because of the above mentioned reason.
Upon playing some very bass..y rap and dance music my subwoofer kicked into life... in fact so much so i nearly hit the roof.
    Thanks all for the replies.
Not sure about the cable your talking about... i'm using the onboard audio, anyways all is fine now.

  • No sound from subwoofer using 5.1 c

Right and left work fine when tested. No sound from center sub-woofer when set to 5. speaker mode. Speakers are Yamaha YST-MS20w 30watt. Worked fine on my old PCI 28 card.

Are you saying your sub. w. speaker is not amplified (is passive) either by internal or external amplifier? You should be using active (amplified) and not passive non-amp.) speakers.

  • Toshiba NB550D No sound from subwoofer

There was no sound play from the subwoofer of my nb550d (the speaker underside) although i turned the volume to maximum.
Any people met this problem and how can you fix it?
    Tks

    Hi mate
    What subwoofer do you mean?
The NB550 does not support any subwoofers
Some models are equipped with an speaker which is placed at the bottom of the unit but this is not a subwoofer this speaker emits sound generated by software as well as audio alarms such a low battery condition, generated by system
So usually you should hear just short beep sounds coming from this speaker.

  • No sound from Center or Subwoofer during Calibrat

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5. Speaker System. During speaker calibration, I hear the test tones from Left, Left Rear, Right, Right Rear but not from Center or Subwoofer (the indicator flashes over the center speaker icon in the graphic but no sound comes out - same with the subwoofer).
I know the subwoofer works when playing music but have not heard anything from the center speaker.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem, games and music etc all speakers work, but during the tests/calibration I get no sound from rear speakers, center or the sub...... help please! (from the firewire port out the plugs all go as follows: yellow, black, green)

  • No sound from center speaker and static from Subwoofer

    Hello everyone,
I have used the search function and found several topics with the title "no center sound" but none of them had a usefull solution for me. I am using a Medusa 5. Headset and have connected it correctly. Note that the setup worked for over 3 years, but aperently recently something in the settings must have changed since I noticed playing Fallout New Vegas, that my center sound is missing.
    Here are some facts :
I am using Windows Vista home 64 Bit with the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card
Using the Creative Console Launcher ver. 2.6.09 (Settings on Game Mode, CMSS 3D disabled, Crystalizer disabled and EQ disabled). Clicking the center speaker for testing, gives me no sound. Clicking on the subwoofer gives me a static sound. Going to the settings "Bass" and enabling Bass Redirection. Doing the same test gives me a "dull, hollow, silent, very far away, hardly hearable" sound on center and the subwoofer speaker, but not a usefull result.
Leaving the Creative Console Launcher and going to the standard Windows Vista sound menu, I can there click speakers for testing aswell. There is still no sound from the center speaker, however clicking on the subwoofer gives me a very nice bass sound, so working as intended for the subwoofer.
I tested the center/subwoofer connection by connecting it to my Ipod, speakers are working.
All drivers and application are the latest version.
On the webpage of Speedlink (the manufacturer of my headset) they refer to a THX Console. I am sure I have seen that application on my system long time ago, but it is not installed anymore. I can't find it on the creative page either, so I am a bit confused where that program went (and even if it can help my problem).
I am 99% sure it has to do with a setting somewhere in the software, but I can't find it. Any idea?

    Hi,
Can you please launch your Creative Console Launcher and click on the Default checkbox? That should reset everything back to it's default settings. Run the speaker test again to see if you are getting sound from the center speaker.
If possible please test the sound card on another computer, that should help you find out if the sound card is faulty or not.

  • No sound from speakers, only subwoofer after restore to factory

I recently restored an HP pavilion dv7 back to factory settings using the built in hp restore. When it came back, sound will only play through the subwoofer. When I do sound tests, I hear both channels play, but they play through the one "triple bass reflex subwoofer" on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing coming from the two speakers in the front at all.
I have uninstalled the IDT drivers multiple times using the current drivers, the original drivers in the swsetup folder and many drivers in between from HP's ftp site. No luck. I'm pretty much out of ideas. It's clearly a software or driver issue as they worked before the reset but I have no idea what else can be done about it.
HP tone control is installed, the beats audio panel is visible, IDT audio shows up in appwiz. Ive seen a few forum posts about this same issue but nothing that ever seemed to get resolved.
Any ideas? I've included some screen shots of what I'm seeing

    Hi @etainw ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7-4000  Notebook and issues with no sound from speakers, only subwoofer after restore to factory. Here is a link to troubleshoot the Subwoofer on Beats Notebooks. On the Enhancements tab, select the Bass Boost option, and verify the device driver is Enabled, this should help.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase.
    Thanks.

  • X-Fi Titanium: Almost no sound from center speaker in 5.1 mode (optical out)

    Hi everybody,
I have searched the forum, but not found any post regarding this problem, so I'm gonna post myself.
First of all: I have an X-Fi Titanium that is connected to my Home Theatre Dolby Digital/DTS Decoder via optical cable, so I use the DTS Li've encoding feature of my X-Fi to get 5. surround sound.
But from the beginning I've had the following problem: When I start a game, the sound is perfectly normal, but suddenly (not at a specific action, just out of nowhere) the sound from my center speaker is almost inaudible, extremely dull. So I can still hear, for example, the explosions or voices that come from the sides or the back, but everything that is right in front of me or is played back only through the center is almost silent.
When I quit the game, start the THX-Console and click on each speaker, all of them except the center speaker play back the test sound (like "front left", "front right" or whatever it is in the English version, I have the German version).
Switching to another mode (game, entertainment or the third, don't know what it's called in the English version), resetting the sound card via the control panel or clicking on "Standard" (or maybe "Default" in the English software?) does not bring back the sound on the center speaker, all I can do is switch to two-speaker- or headphones-mode so the center speaker is not used. Even rebooting windows does not work. I haven't figured out yet what exactly helps, but usually after a while suddenly the center works again.
The only reliable solution is to reinstall the whole software and driver, but with the slow Creative servers, it always takes hours to download all updates with Auto-Update, and installing everything with each single file for each little software module isn't much faster either.
I must say that I am very disappointed by Creative. Before my X-Fi Titanium I had an X-Fi Platinum, and the drivers really sucked. I hoped that this was because at that time, the X-Fi series was still quite new. But almost nothing has really improved since then. I would like to have ONE installation routine for the whole software package, with checkboxes to choose what I want to install, and not only when using the original CD, but also with the update files for download. And, most of all, I want the driver to just work! Since the beginning, I've only had problems with these cards.
Anyway, I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks a lot in advance.

I think I see what is happening now.
When using the analog outputs (5.), you have to enable bass redirection, and set the front or back speakers to small in the "Bass Management" screen of the THX control panel.
Bass redirection does not send anything to the subwoofer if the front and back speakers are all set to large. There should be a bypass switch for this, so the bass can be sent to full size satellites and the subwoofer.
When using the spdif DDL output, my receiver would decode and send bass to the subwoofer on it's own.
Only buggy part I'm noticing now is that I lose all bass occasionally on boot, and must do an "Auto Detect..." in the "Speaker Configuration" screen of the THX control panel to get it back.

After the chipset update, I de-installed all SB and Sigmatel drivers
Then Re-installed the SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio driver
and then re-ran the SB Installation CD
    still, no front r/l sound
then, i ran the Creative AutoUpdate application and installed recommended updates.

i switched the rear l/r cable with front, so i know the speakers are fine.

I used the Creative Diagnostic application's Speaker Test and after hitting Restore Defaults, the front right speaker is not as quiet, though still much quieter and muffled. Still no sound from the subwoofer.

    Hi ppl, im new ere.
I just bought a Surround sound, i put it together, play music, and thers no sound from my rear speakers. its the same when i play a game and look at a DVD (which DO support 5.1 sound)
I already made sure all the connections in the amp and subwoofer are in properly and they are...
And I also know that it cudnt be my sound card because it also supports 8.1 and im only trying to use a 5.1.
    Please help someone....
    All help is greatly appreciated
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
First things first. For music and games (and the speaker test in Windows), what you're experiencing is normal. A digital connection like coaxial or optical SPDIF can only pass over either an encoded stream (like AC3 on DVDs), or a stereo PCM signal. If you're playing music/games, the sound is not an AC3 stream, but essentially several stereo signals. The connection simply cannot pass this over. For more detail, read this forum thread and this knowledgebase article. You can turn on the upmix function on the decoder to give sound out of more speakers, but this is an effect, so you will not get the positional sound out of games for instance.
For DVDs however, this should work perfectly, as you are sending an unprocessed AC3 stream from the system directly to your speakers. All you need to do is adjust the settings and it should work fine. Make sure the DVD software's audio option is set to SPDIF/bypass, rather than 5.1. Choosing 5.1 in the software will make it decode the signal rather than pass it through. Then check the settings for the card and it should work.

  • No sound from TD7700 speakers

I am having no problems with the DDTS-100 Decoder: I have it connected to my DVD player and it is recognising the various audio streams. I have also tested the sound on the headphone sockets on the DDTS-100 and can hear the sound.
However I cannot get any sign of life from the T7700 speaker system. Neither the subwoofer nor the speakers are producing any sound (either from the DVD player or the "test" mode from the DDTS-100) . Nor can I get any sound from the Audio Control Pod.
I have been double checking the cables for the past two days without success. Should the speakers be dead silent even without any sound being sent to them? Can anyone help me?

Do they work if you connect them to other sources (e.g. SB Audigy, Discman, ...)?

After carefully checking this again, it turns out clicking front left or right the sound comes out BOTH the front and rear. To make things more confusing when all but the line (green) 3.5 jack was unplugged ALL the speakers would work. LONG STORY SHORT I SENT THIS P.O.S. BACK TO NEWEGG FOR REFUND. Every thing works great with the onboard audio, I'm in the market for a 7. that works.Maybe Auzentech? Any suggestions?!! With all the issues the peeps are having someone must be using a card that works out of the box in Vista 64
