No sound heard in Audio Preview

Hello when I speak on the mic, the green bar in audio preview goes up and down however no sound is heard. How do I hear the sound from the mic during preview? Thanks.

As far as I know you can't hear the sound, just see the bars move.  As long as the preview bars are high but remain green you know that your sound is being captured an the appropriate level.  If you are unsure that your sound is coming through you could "listen" to the stream by opening it from the server, just to confirm that it is being captured.

  • Distorted sound with audio preview

    Hi,
I have a problem with the Finder file preview. As for sound files, one can usually listen to songs within the file preview, without opening an application. But since recently, the sound of this function is very loud and distorted. I had been running two such previews at the same time and suddenly the sound turned to this.
Since then it has stayed this bad. I tried the usual means: restart, clear user caches, repair file permissions, p-ram reset ... nothing of this helped.
The funny thing is: All other audio stuff works fine. I can listen to iTunes, use QuickTime - everything is fine. But as soon as I try to listen via the Finder preview, the sound is terrifying.
Does anyone know any help to this, please?
    Many thanks in advance!

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    tell application "Finder"
    quit
    end tell
    delay 1
    tell application "Finder"
    run
    end tell
Don't press the Run button until instructed. Next, open the /Library/Preferences/ item of your home folder, and move the item com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop. Once this file has been moved, run the script, and then use the audio preview option again. If the sound is still distorted, move half of the plist files to the desktop, run the script again, and repeat the procedure until the item causing the problem is found. If nothing in the /Library/Preferences/ folder is causing the issue, continue with the other items in the home folder except for the desktop itself. If you determine that an item isn't causing the problem, you can put it back where it originally was.

  • After Effects CS6 Audio Preview Issue

I am completely baffled on this one. The audio preview function in After Effects isn't working at all, whether I try to play the sound on its own or within a composition. I tried importing another file and applying a tone effect to a layer, neither of those played either.
I have checked everything I can think of. Sound on the clip is enabled, the waveforms look like they should. The sound works fine when I open the file with another program. I tried playing it with and without headphones plugged in with the volume all the way up, still nothing.
Whether I scrub through holding ctrl, hit (.) or use RAM preview, no sound comes out.
    Audio preview is enabled.
Visually the audio levels fluctuate here as they should, but no actual sound comes out. Mute isn't on, as you can see there. Here is the file itself:
When I tried rendering, the sound WAS there in the output file. It's just previewing any sound within AE that isn't working. I need to sync sound and animation for this project so this is pretty debilitating as far as my work goes. I closed AE, restarted, etc., nothing changed. It seems like there must be some place that audio preview isn't enabled but I am out of ideas and no fixes I found on the forum so far have helped. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful to hear them.

I'd check preferences - audio and your audio settings on the system. Speaking of the system What OS? What kind of sound device?
Did you try a wav file?

  • AE CC 2014 audio preview speed up error... "chipmunking" randomly

I"ve been having an issue where the audio during a full RAM preview with video or even if it's just audio preview (no visual) will play sped up. Sometimes it will speed up after having previewed correctly once, but every subsequent time will result in "chipmunking". This has happened on two different workstations.
These are wav files for the audio. The framerate is correct in the preview window.

    32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Using internal audio outputting through the headphone jack
Wave files are 96 KHz / 24 bit
The problem is not consistent. And there was a new development: It also played slowed down at a lower pitch during one amusing preview.
Maybe this is an OS X error when other sound programs are used and then quit, and the machine had to play different types of audio specs. I also use Soundtrack Pro for quick audio editing and Pro Tools for heavy sound design. But both of those programs playback audio correctly 100% of the time.
At this time, I had quit every program and left the computer for the night (but not a restart) and now it appears to be previewing correctly. But the odd thing is that this was happening on my laptop (same specs for the OS and software) in front of a client the other week (hitting the full RAM preview resulted in accurate video, but fast, pitched up audio that ended before the video since it was pitched up)
This problem does not extend to renders. Only previewing.

  • CC Update - now Audio Preview Freezes up

Been working fine with CC2014 version - updated yesterday.
Now when I'm working in After Effects and go to do an audio preview - the first time it works fine, but the second time I do a preview I get a spinning wheel and nothing. Windows Task Manager shows After Effects using up 12-13% CPU (which is 1 thread as I have quad core with hyperthread).
I am using 96kz 24bit audio files -but it was working just fine in the previous version.

  • No sound coming from Audio Loops

    Hi,
I was in a studio session with an artist today and upon reopening Logic Pro X after a lunch break, the audio loops from the loop library are not playing. I've created a new project and dragged the loops into new tracks and they still won't play. It shows there are levels but no sound is coming out. I tried the same thing with midi loop files and those will play fine with perfect sound. I have double checked my speaker system and restarted Logic and the Computer multiple times but it still won't play any sound for any audio loops. Can anyone help me with finding a solution for this?
    Thanks!

I had no idea what that was until I searched for it. But I found it and made sure it was set for "Built-in Input" for "Default Input" under System Settings, and also "Built-in Input" by Properties For... then down under Audio Input it has "Line In" as the Source... everything looks fine but I'm still not hearing anything. I even tried adding my mixer as a MIDI device(???), although I've no clue what I'm doing in that area...

  • Audio preview no longer works correctly since AE-CC update

    Hi everyone.
Since updating AE CC a couple of days ago (now on 12.1.0.168) on OSX 10.8.5, 2.7GHz i7 16GB RAM, the audio and RAM preview no longer functions correctly.
    The steps I follow are:
    Open AE
    Open project
Press . to preview audio from where I am on the timeline, OR RAM preview workspace
What happens is my cursor turns into the wheel of doom for a about 20 seconds, then the playback begins but the audio is sped up which is wrong. Video is correct speed.
If I stop the audio or RAM preview, then preview again, everything is fine and plays instantly. If a RAM preview loops, then the audio reverts to normal speed.
I can open up any and all of my different project files and audio previews perfectly and instantly as it should. It's just the first time I press the . key on a freshly opened instance of AE that I get this problem.
I've tried restarting my mac to no avail, and also changing the pref settings away from what the settings have always been and that doesn't work either. I've even trashed my prefs and that also doesn't work.
I work exclusively at 25fps. Frame rate for RAM preview is set to auto (25) and changing this from auto to 25 doesn't work.
Memory settings are default since trashing my prefs, 16GB installed, 4GB for other apps, no checked boxes are ticked.
Any ideas on what has happened please?

  • Bridge CS6 Audio preview slow

I'm using Adobe Bridge CS6 x64 and the audio previews have a delay before they begin to play, while the video previews don't. Is there a way I can speed things up and have the audio play almost the second I click? I'm running a decent PC here, 16GB ram, and it occurs on both a 7200rpm 1tb drive and on an ssd. Bridge x64 is using 70mb of ram while it runs. The cache has been purged from preferences.
I've seen this guy VIDEO COPILOT | After Effects Tutorials, Plug-ins and Stock Footage for Post Production Professionals (Click "Watch Demo," at about 2:38  it shows him using bridge) use bridge and get near instant audio playback upon selecting a file, so why am I getting a short delay before playback?

When I saved a image to my desktop and wanted to open in Preview so I could do some altra fast tweeks like add sepia and then resaved it came up that I didn't have aothourization to save changes.  I then as suggested went to finder - get info - and unlocked the file and entered the desktop password when prompted and closed but it still won't save the changes. I don't want to change it to open as a PS file because it is a JPEG and takes allot of effort when preview cnages under tools color is so efficient.  Other suggestions to try?

  • Is there a way to make the audio preview whenyou hold Control and slide the time handle the default?

    Hello,
Is there a way to make it so that the audio preview that happens when you hold Control as you slide the Current Time Indicator handle is the default, so that you don't have to hold Control every time you slide it? It's gotten to where I'm holding Control anytime I slide that handle, so it would actually be quite convenient to be able to make the audio preview the default setting instead of requiring the holding down of Control. I searched in options but if it's there I must have missed it.
    Thanks

    No.

  • Audio preview in finder...

The audio preview in the finder on tiger showed up like a quicktime player with a progress bar u could move as u wanted. The new audio preview doesnt give u that option. Any way of changing it back to the old way?

I understand the preview floating pane is quite good for somethings; but it's not very good if you want to listen to a track from a certain point, and then go back to what you where doing previously in other areas of the computer. As soon as you click on another program other than finder, or another finder window the track stops, and the only other option is listening to it all the way from the beginning. This is really limiting and annoying, especially if your listening to long mixes or podcasts. I would really like to be able to choose the way you preview in the finder, i.e. choose the progress bar thing like it had in the old OS.

  • What app plays audio previews in Finder

When I'm in column view in Finder I can play any audio file right from Finder without actually opening the file or any application. So what app is used to play these audio files?

I'm not sure, but Finder itself may be running the previews, perhaps using Quicktime-related system library components, but not opening QuickTime player or any other stand-alone app. When I look in Activity Monitor, Finder CPU utilization goes from near-zero to about 13% when an Audio preview is playing, and no new process seems to start running in Activity Monitor. The same large increase in Finder CPU utilization is seen in Activity Monitor when a movie file is previewed.

  • Audio Preview Mark a specific spot or stop play

    Morning,
Using the . in After Effects is great but....
I have been trying to find out if there is a way to mark a spot while im doing an audio preview or even stopping the playback on a specific spot instead of it jumping back to the begining?

"To add a blank composition marker at the current time, make sure that no layer is selected, and choose Layer > Add Marker or press * (multiply) on the numeric keypad.
Note: Pressing  * during a RAM preview or audio-only preview adds a marker at the current time without interrupting the preview."
"To add a layer marker to selected layers at the current time, choose Layer > Add Marker or press * (multiply) on the numeric keypad.
Note: Pressing * during a RAM preview or  audio-only preview adds a marker at the current time without interrupting the preview."
(from "Layer markers and composition markers")

  • How can I put another image without its associated sound on an audio (without its image) ?

IMovie 11 : how can I put one image without its associated sound on an audio (without its image) ? thanks

    Hi
As iMovie doesn't orient after Time - but only after Video/Photo clips is this not so easy to do.
I use black photos as Dummy clips - and put them into a new project first
then I add the Music I want
Then I drop the Video-clip (that I realy want) ontop of the black dummy photo - Where it's supposed to be - THEN IF advanced tools are selected (in iMovie preferences) there will be a Drop-Down menu and here I can select to do a Cutaway - and select not to add the audio from it (or in wave-form just silence it out)

  • Rendering Hundreds of Audio Previews Upon Export, Long Render Times

    Hi everyone,
I have an assembly cut of a feature, with footage and a timeline at 422 ProRes HQ, 24 fps, 96kHz audio.
When I try to export any length of a clip, I get exorbitant render times and hundreds of audio previews to render.
Video alone is rendered almost instantaneously.
There are some audio files on the timeline (music and SFX) at 48k sample rate.
Any ideas what the problem is?
    Thanks.
    Premiere CC 2014
    OSX Mavericks
    2 X 2.66 Quad Core Xeon
    32 GB memory
    NVIDIA Quadro 4000 w/ CUDA
    3 tB 7200 RPM - RAID 0

Thanks, Ann. I'm thinking that may be a factor because this is the first time I've had to work with audio recorded at 96 and I've never had this problem.
    Can anyone else elaborate more?

  • Bring Audio Preview to Artist/Album pages and search results!

Note: This idea references features from the new Discover tab which may not have reached all users yet! If you have any feedback about discover, please head over to this ideas topic.
    Summary
One of the most useful features of the new discover tab is the ability to "Preview" recommendations.
I think this feature would be very useful if rolled out to other pages, such as Artist/Album pages, as well as search results so you can easily preview content without interrupting what you are already listening to. Music discovery for me goes far beyond what the Discover tab suggests!
    Implementation
The behind the scenes work to make this happen might stretch further than I am imagining, although it the new web based pages such as discover and artist pages run on the same platform, how hard can it be to migrate a feature! :)
Good news for the Spotify UI team is implementing this would require only minor changes, since it can be easily worked into the already available elements, just like on Discover.
For anyone who does know, here is what audio preview looks like in Discover:
This could easily be added to other pages:
    Artist Pages
    Search Results
And with a minor change, a track preview button would be epic!:
    Excuse my paint skills!
    Conclusion
This feature being rolled out would greatly add to my Spotify experience! Add your kudos if you agree! :)
