No sound in Browser

Hi All,
I know this topic has been discussed till death in other posts, and belive me I've read a lot of those. But for all my efforts I'm not able to make sound work on any browser(firefox/chromium). I've been able to make sound work for sound applications like mpg123/clementine etc.
I haven't installed flash and am running only youtube videos. I've tried playing around with asoundconf, alsamixer but nothing works. The aplay command shows the following devices.
[cheema@screwed ~]$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: MID [HDA Intel MID], device 0: 92HD87B1/3 Analog [92HD87B1/3 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: MID [HDA Intel MID], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I'm guessing the browsers are trying to access the HDMI device rather than the analog one. Is there a way to force the analog devices as default for browser?

  • Shuttle quickly in Sound & Music Browser?

    Hi,
When I'm in FCP X and open the Sound & Music Browser (my iTunes Library) - I see al my songs.  Good!
If I want to listen to one, but fast forward it, of shuttle around within the song quickly - is there a way to do this?
I can only click and play on a song to hear it, or select it.  But if I want to hear different parts of it quickly, I don't seem to be able to shuttle around - unless I specifically go and open iTunes - which then kinda defeats the purpose of accessing it quickly while in FCP X!
Hopefully one of you experts can do this?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Going to try and explain my situation a bit better.
Say I'm playing a game, or there is a sound playing that resembles a heart beat. The heart beats, then there is no sound, then beats again. Well my music from iTunes, is quieter when the heart beats, and goes back to normal volume when there is no sound playing from my browser.

  • [SOLVED] No sound in browser

    Hi everyone!
I recently moved from Ubuntu to Arch (Yeah!). Everything was fine, the installation was quite easy and I found everything I needed with on the official repos and AUR.
I only have one major problem: There is absolutely no sound in my browser (I tried both Firefox and Chromium). The problem is not only with flash, html5 audio does not work either.
The sound works in vlc, xmms2 and everything else, except for the browsers. I tried to figure out the problem for hours, looking in many forums and installing different packages.
I don't know where to go now. I don't really understand how do sound works in Linux and I don't know which information I should give here and where to find it.
Does anyone have an idea ? Which information should I dump here to help ?
    Thanks !

    Ok I solve my problem.
I have two sound card: "Generic" (HDMI) and "Generic_1" (Analog). The "alsa: default" device was set to "Generic".
I only changed the "alsa: default" device to use "Generic_1".

  • Only iTunes shows up in the Music and Sound media browser

I just upgraded to FCP 10.1 and I'm noticing that the media browser only show iTunes content in Music and Sound. No sound effects (foley, etc.) are included as before.
Is this simply that FCP no longer includes these or should there be something other than iTunes there?

Thanks Tom. After a few reboots, music is back. Thanks again. Looking for the "solved" button and nothing. I will marked solved when I am able to.
    Thanks again.
    Best.

  • 10.4.10 - no sound in browser

    Hi guys,
Since updating to 10.4.10 (Power PC) I can no longer get any sound through my web browser (neither Firefox nor Safari - both latest versions).
I've heard of people having sound 'popping' problems but not a complete lack of sound. For instance, Youtube videos etc have no sound, nor do websites that are supposed to have sound.
Apart from that, software such as iTunes works fine.
Is anyone else experiencing this or can offer any advice?
    Many thanks,
    Rick

I tried both your suggestions but still no change.
The 10.4.10 update has definitely increased my Mac's maximum sound output. It's now a lot louder than it used to be, but at the expense of killing sound in my browser

every time I am in firefox I get a pacman sound that does not shut down. I have not downloaded any programs from the browser.

It's just the Google homepage tribute to Pacman turning 30 today. A playable game starts up automatically, use the arrow keys to move Pacman. It's fun!
You can get Ms Pacman to appear in that game by clicking the "insert coin" button twice and using the WASD keys to move :)
You can also just change your homepage to something other than google until tomorrow.

  • No sound through browser upon wake

I've been posting this question, but nothing helpful. It is SO frustrating to have no sound when visiting a website after the computer has been in sleep mode. I may have a dozen browser tabs open, but I have to close the browser and reopen it to immediately get sound back. It's very consistent. Surely Apple is aware f this and must be able to provide a solution?
I am using google chrome (horrors) as browser. I HAVE NOT been using Safari so don't know if it also happens with that, but I'll bet it does.
I'm using the most current OSX on a late 202

Sometimes computers have minds of their own, they decide to change something that has worked perfectly for years, and then stymie us. Resetting the SMU is not that simple, it's just one of a number of things one can do to deal with a recalcitrant machine, and I'm sure you would have arrived at it on your own, after all, you had already tried several other things.
Anyway, glad that the problem has resolved, and happy that I was able to help,

  • No Sound in browser, QT

I upgraded from QT 6 to QT 7, and for some reason I've lost all my sound ability when I play the movie in my browser, this includes audio files including mp3s. When I save it to my HD and play it, it works fine.
When I tried uninstalled QT 7 and reinstalled QT 6, I see both video and audio, but this only works for the ones that were encoded with earlier QT versions. If I try to watch newer QT movies, I get QT player controls, the audio plays but I only get a white video.
I installed QT 7 in my other PC, and it worked fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

figured it out - I can right click the file on the desktop and open with Windows Media Player and it is fine.

  • NO SOUND IN BROWSER AT ALL

A week or two ago i stopped getting sound in my browser, it doesn't work in Safari or Fire-fox. I didn't d/l any plugins or anything out of the ordinary. My iTunes works fine but i don't get any sound from the browser on any sites YouTube, MySpace etc. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    You're welcome.
For reasons I haven't yet figured out, sometimes the sound settings change. Glad it was an easy fix.

  • Music volume dims as sound on browser plays

Title says it all. I'm playing music through iTunes, and say if I'm playing a flash game on Firefox, the music in iTunes will dim when there is a sound playing from the browser. It's quite annoying, and I can't find where to disable it.
I'm running Windows 7, on a Acer Aspire 3375z laptop with the newest version of both iTunes and Firefox. Well, the newest versions that were available to download yesterday.

Going to try and explain my situation a bit better.

  • Jerky sound when browsing or opening a folder

Since a while, apparently without any new software installed, the sounds coming out from my laptop HP Pavilion dv6137ea  are jerky with many empties.
I tried reinstalling all the appropriate sound driver but whenever I play any music (mp3 or streaming) the sound is terrible.
Only If I don't touch anything (keyboard or mouse) then the music is ok.
    What should I check?
I already tried starting in safe mode or killing busy process. No way
    Using XP home SP3.
    Thanks.

I've been having a similar problem with my Pavilion dv4 as well. When I navigate through Explorer or change windows, the sound jerks, and if it's muted, it will temporarily play through the speakers. The sounds also stopped working on Firefox and Internet Explorer. This has only been happening since with the new IDT driver updates; I had no problems before.

  • [Solved] Flash No Sound In Browser

    Hi All,
Having problems getting audio from any flash video. I am currently running 64 bit arch (3.5.4-1-ARCH). I have ALSA installed and working. I listen to Amarok for radio and mplayer to watch movies.
I have my .asoundrc with this
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    Output of aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 0: ca0106 [CA0106]
    Subdevices: 0/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 1: ca0106 [CA0106]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 2: ca0106 [CA0106]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: CA0106 [CA0106], device 3: ca0106 [CA0106]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
In Phonon all the devices are set to the sound card and verified testing (via test button). Still sounds doesn't work with any flash application in Chromium or FF. Upon running either of them from the command line I don't see any error.
I was afraid that another program grabbed the sound devices so I rebooted the desktop and first thing opened is FF and still no sound. YES I did make sure every thing is unmutted (fell for that in the past   )
Also to add I am running Xmonad as windows manager so no Gnome or KDE desktop.
Update: Updated arch and still no change. Seems like Flash to using wrong sounds device but I don't know how else to force other than asoundrc
    Any ideas?

I would really not like to install Pulse.
I can try a couple of reboot and reinstall flash plugin but it looks like they never quite fixed it nor found the cause. The problem just doesn't add up. Will post back with results.
Update: Reinstalling flash/rebooting several times didn't fix anything

  • No sound in browser when viewing flash applications

Hey people, I hope someone can help me...
I have no sound on anything related to flash when viewing
pages online. Flash games or movies (for example) play the video
just fine, but no sound. This has been happening for a few days and
I can't recall anything I did to trigger this.
I am running windows xp home edition, sound card drivers are
all updated, no viruses or spyware, and I have uninstalled and
reinstalled flash player, shockwave player and quicktime a few
    times to no avail.
Seems I have done everything in my power to find out what is
wrong, and nothing seems to work. All of my volume control settings
are unmuted and turned up full...
    Help?

  • How can I add a folder of MP3s to Final Cut so they show up in the media browser?

I have a collection of royalty free audio clips in MP3 format. I would like to get them to show up in the media browser, so I don't have to go to the finder each time to get them into a project. Any idea how to do this?

If you want them in the Music and Sound media browser specifically, rather than in your Event Library, then you could easily just add them to your system's iTunes library, then access them via FCP X:
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0/#ver549f1ed1
Or if you want to avoid adding / organizing them in your iTunes library then you can just drag and drop your already organized MP3 folder directly into the Sound and Music media browser pane inside FCP X and the app will add that folder to the browser inside a new "Folders" category.
