No sound in file import by iMovie 11

Hi,
Went I import video file there is no sound in imovie 11, since sunday.

If you made update of iMovie from 9.0.4 to 9.0.6, I had the same problem. The solution is to back at 9.0.4 after to have removing iMovie last version with caches & pref and reinstall it but without update the last version.

  • Why doesn't my .AVi file import into iMovies

I cannot get iMovies to recognise my .AVI files (from my Samsung ST50).
I can download the files from my camera to my hard drive (so the computer recognises them), and I can play them via Quicktime, so I know they work. But I can't import the .AVI files into iMovies. It seems to process the video when I go to 'Import'>'Movies'...- then nothing appears. I just get a 'No Matching Video' message in the event folder.
However my previous camera (an old Pentax Optio S40) produced .AVI's which I can import into iMovies. Are all AVI's not the same? Or is it a setting in my new camera (I'm not too tech savvy!).

    Hi Rocco,
Looks like we missed this post when you first asked. Sorry about that.
What message are you receiving when you try to print? What version of Windows do you have installed?  If you're running Win7, you may be facing this issue: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html

  • AVCHD file Import via iMovie then ?possible FCE can import these files?

I am new to Apple. I want to Upgrade from iMovie 08, to FCE HD.
I believe that FCE DOES NOT import AVCHD files / format., however, iMovie 08
DOES! Before I Buy FCE, Has anyone with FCE successfully tried using iMovie 08 to import AVCHD video, then , with FCE running, import the iMovies 08 / AVCHD
files ( which I believe are uncompressed ' *.mov (movie) files ), into
    Final Cut Express HD?

iMovie 08 converts the files to Apple Intermediate Codec when it ingests the material. That's the same format used by FCE.

  • 3gp files | import into iMovie?

Does anyone know how I can get 3gp video files (that I took on my cellphone) into iMovie for editing.
I would have thought there would be some sort of automated conversion but iMovie doesn't seem to like the file format.......

I am wondering the same thing. The fact that iMovie will export 3gp usually would indicate that the user can import it. I am capable of converting these files into an iMovie acceptable format, but would prefer not to if it can be avoided.

  • Too much rendering of video files imported from iMovie

I am new to mac so maybe someone can help me out. I imported all my video to my hard drive from iMovie. When I use these files on FCE it always has to render, there is no sound. Just by putting a video clip on the timeline with no effects or anything, it always has to render and there is no sound. When i import video files from another hard drive imported from a different program and i drop it to the timeline, it doesnt have to render and i do hear the sound. How can i fix this?

Hello and welcome to the forum
Listen to Tom; he's one of the chief gurus and most frequent contributors to this forum! Here's how to export your iMovie footage so you can easily use it in FCE:
In iMovie, select Share>QuickTime and choose Expert Settings. On the next screen select Export: Movie to QuickTime Movie and click the Options button. In the resulting Movie Settings window, select DV/DVCPRO-NTSC for video compression and Linear PCM Stereo @48kHz for Sound Settings. Uncheck the Prepare for Internet Streaming box.
Realize that you'll be making an entirely new movie file, around 13GB per hour of standard def footage. Hope you have a big honker of a hard drive!
    Good luck!

  • No sound on mpg imported to iMovie 06

    Hello,
I have a 2 minute mpg that I would like to edit then upload to a website. I have imported it to iMovie. The sound is gone. Is there something Im missing,
Or is this a bug in iMovie 06?
Is there any other way to edit this?
    Thanks

iMovie does not work with muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips (and that's what you're trying to do)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42996
    You'll need:
MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free) and the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Sound doesn't import in iMovie videos.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 digital camera that imports perfectly on Quicktime. When I drag the videos to iMovie, the sound doesn't work. I was told that I needed to convert it. It's an MPG and I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that I could use to do so and what to change it to. Thank you.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am having a major issue with my Cybercam and don't know where to post it. You said that yours was syncing perfectly and I need help with that. When I plug my camera (DSC-W80) into my powerbook, the finder freezes. but if I change the camera settings to use PictBridge, I can get the pictures sometimes with Image Capture, and all the video clips(if i can even open them) are only 1 second long. Does anyone know what I can do?

  • Distored sound during video import to iMovie

While importing movie footage from my Sharp viewcam into iMovie the audio is distorted. It doesn't sound distored when I view it on the viewcam only.
I just finished a project last week with the same viewcam and different movie footage and didn't have this problem. The audio was fine.
Has this happened to anyone out there?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi Mr Lucy:
Be sure your camera is set to 16-bit, not 12-bit.
    Also I quote QuickTimeKirk:
”Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”

  • Sound lost by Importing IN iMovie

I have some small films from a dicital still camera (Sony DSC-T1) in a .MPG format on my HD. I´d like to get them together in iMovie, so I´ve tried to import them. I´ve got the pictures (film) but the sound was lost. So I`ve tried to save the films with QuicktimePro 7 in to an other format (.MOV,.MPEG-4,.DV,...) but with no of these exports the sound stayed with.
Have you an idea what i could do to save the sound???

    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
BTW, converting MPEG to DV/MOV the mother of all FAQs here Sadly the FAQ section of the forum decribes just the problem, not any solutions. And searching the forums doesn't always work either.
ObSig: I don't benefit from the link.

  • I am trying out Final Cut Pro X and trying desperately to import a project from iMovie 11 (version 9.0.9). There is no export to FCPX in iMovie 11 nor is there import from iMovie in FCPX.

    Can someone please help me?
I am trying out Final Cut Pro X on a 30 day trial. So far so good.
I am now trying desperately to import a project from iMovie 11 (version 9.0.9) into FCPX.
I have read multiple posts on this subject and they all recommend File/import/ from iMovie project in FCPX
However there is NO such option under File/import in FCPX - nor is there an option to export to FCPX in iMovie 11
    Can anyone please enlighten me.

The current version of FCPX does not work with that version of iMovie. You need version 10.0.3, which allows you to send a project to FCP.

  • Importing older iMovie projects into new iMovie events

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and am running iMovie 8.0.5. I like the event library. But I have a number older iMovie projects, created a few years ago -- with pain -- from analog Hi8. I would rather not have to go through the pain of reimporting from the tape. Is there any conversion from iMovie 6 (cannot remember the actual version--it was a few years ago) project to the current event library?

    Yes. File/IMPORT/From iMovie HD

  • Trouble opening mpeg movie files and importing into iMovie 08

Hi, I'd be most grateful if anyone could provide any solutions to the following problem...
A friend has emailed me two .mpeg movie files which are parts 1&2 of a home movie which I want to edit in iMovie and burn to DVD. The footage was shot on a miniHDV camcorder (not sure which brand).
Opening in QT 7.6 gives the following warning dialogue: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."
The files will however play fine in VLC Media Player, but not in mpeg Streamclip (the file appears to play but the viewer is blank with no audio/video). Trying to import into iMovie is unsuccessful. The iMovie browser won't let me choose the files or drag/drop.
Any ideas. I read somewhere that iMovie 08 can't import mpeg-1 files. Do I need to convert the files, and if so how?
Thanks in advance, and apologies - this is my first experience of video editing.

I have QT Player but it hasn't "kicked in" when I try to import my videos.
Something called PIXE VRF Browser is supposed to help in the conversion. The QT MPEG-2 thingy won't install until I buy QT Pro, according to what I get on the screen.
Sounds like you have too many applications trying to do the same thing. Either use the Pixela Pixe VRF Browser or use the Mac applications (Mac OS Finder, Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component w/MPEG Streamclip) but not both to do the same job. The Apple Finder should be able to copy multiplexed VOB/MPEG-2 files from either your PC burned DVD or directly from your camcorder DVD to your MAC hard drive where MPEG Streamclip/QT MPEG-2 component can convert them for use in iMovie '08. Frankly, I don't understand your work work flow or why you want to import your files to a GOP editor in the first place if your goal is to do frame level editing in iMovie '08.
As for Jon's suggestion, I am on dial-up and cannot download big files at 3-4 Kbps snail pace.
What does this have to do with importing your camcorder files to your PC and re-burning them to DVD for use on your Mac? If I were to make a recommendation here, it would have been to use an external hard drive here rather than DVDs for transporting files between platforms and then only if you want the files available to both. If your goal is only to edit them in iMovie '08 or iMovie HD on your Mac, then why not cut out the "middleman" platform?
I wish I could purchase these updates on DVDs but the genies couldn't even tell me if there's such a service.
Totally confused here. Are you saying your DVR-D300 files were commercial produced or that you are dealing with torrent downloads of copy-written material? These are two separate issues with facets beyond the scope of this forum.
As for "platform", I have iMovie08. iMac does not read the mini RAM disks when I connect the camera to a USB port.
Are you saying the Finder doesn't read them or that iMovie '08 doesn't read them? Do you "finalize" your DVDs before trying to read them via USB as the manual states may be necessary as indicated on page 150 of your manual?
How can I find out that iMovie09 will let me import and edit my Panasonic videos?
You could try going to the Apple site and checking the the tapeless camcorder compatibility chart. The Panasonic DVR-D300 is specifically listed along with a hot link for additional information. However, this still won't help you you don't finalize the content.

  • Can no longer play or import Sound Studio files into iTunes

I recently updated my iTunes and now I cannot import music files that I created in my Sound Studio program (AIFFs, WAVs, MPEGs, whatever). And none of the Sound Studio files I imported into iTunes previously will play. What's up??? Is there a way to "un-update" iTunes and go back to the previous version?

Nevermind, I just did some more searching on the boards and found this topic from someone who had the exact same problem.

I stopped TruDirect and everything started working again.
    Sorry for the unnecessary post.
