No sound in Firefox safe mode

Problem started when no sound would play in YouTube.
Updated Java, flash, adobe, shockwave, plugins. Nada.
Checked sound mixer on laptop, Firefox not muted.
Ran firefox in safe mode. Still no sound.
Yet no issues, sounds play in IE and other browers.
HEEEEELP!!!!!!!

• Firefox freezes trying to download or save files, Import/Export bookmarks, clicking (Tools) Options (was: Fire Fox crashes in Windows safe mode and in Firefox Safe mode)

Hi
XP sp3 4gb ram
Firefox 6.0.2
Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
• Clicking a download link on a webpage
• Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
• Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
• Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
• Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
• Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
• Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
• Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
• I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
What does work?
• Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
• Firefox works fine on my other computer.
• Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
• My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
• malwarebytes
• superantispyware
• ccleaner
• combofix.
• smart defrag
• then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)

Hi.
This is about a question you posted to the Firefox Support forum three months ago (I'm sorry you never got an answer).
Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?
I found this thread searching for a solution for someone on MozillaZine's support forum who's having a similar issue. See this thread: (maybe something he's tried that didn't work for him will work for you?)

• How do I enable an add-on in Firefox safe mode?

So recently I have had a problem with Firefox crashing all the time and found out it was an add-on that was causing the problem.
I have tried opening Firefox in safe-mode to disable add-ons but they are already disabled, so I want to know how to enable an add-on and then to permanently disable it so Firefox will open normally again. . .
I have already tried to permanently disable all add-ons by using the Firefox options box but nothing happens after I click on the 'make changes and restart firefox' button. After I click it nothing happens and it remains frozen. (Safe mode Window)
So to make things short, how do I enable an add-on in Firefox safe mode?

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and also disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
You should still see a Disable button or Enable button (if you disabled them all) in the extension Manager (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) if you start Firefox in Save mode.

• Firefox 29 When I right click to open in a new tab, the tab will open but it will be a blank page. Tried Firefox Safe Mode & with Ad On Disabled Nothing

When I right click to open in new tab, the new tab will open but the page is blank. I have tried it in Firefox Safe Mode & with Add Ons Disabled, still doesn't work.

Hi UKBlue,
Is your new tab page set to about:blank? You can change this from the about:config page or you can restore defaults by resetting Firefox.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

• Firefox is already running, but is not responding, and neither is Firefox Safe Mode.

Hi.
When ever I try and open Firefox, it says,
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
I tried restarting my computer, updating to the latest plugins using the Firefox Plugin Check (which is really convenient) and I even tried uninstalling Firefox and getting the new Firefox 4. However, nothing worked.
I searched for the problem on this site and it told me to run Firefox Safe Mode. I right clicked my Firefox icon and when I clicked Firefox Safe Mode, the same dialog came up and causing not even Firefox Safe Mode to run. No other Firefox window is open and task manager is informing me that no other Firefox application is running.
Thank you for reading this. Firefox is my favorite web browser and I really do not want to switch to something else.

I upgraded to 4.0b4 Beta 2 days ago and I have had no crashes, no failure to close and all of the Java script problems have vanished.
Normally I'd not advise people to rush out and try beta versions but this one seems more stable than the official release!

• When using the right mouse button in Yahoo mail inbox (Firefox 8.0.1, Win 7, Yahoo Mail Plus) the Firefox navigation window (Back, Forward etc...) is on top of the Yahoo email menu (Open, Print, Reply etc...). This happens in Firefox safe mode as well.

This also happened in Windows XP which I was using until recently.
The Yahoo mail menu is there but the Firefox menu is on top of it. I tried Firefox safe mode with everything disabled and the problem still happened. I tried Yahoo mail in IE 9 and the right mouse button works correctly.

Can you attach a screenshot?
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br />

• My firefox crashed when upload file on our web based application. This happen on two PC, even during firefox safe mode the problem still exist. But the problem

Dear All,
My firefox (version 23 on win 7) crashed when upload file on our internal web based application. This happen on two PC, even in firefox safe mode the problem still exist. So, my first conclusion the problem nothing to do with extension. here the crash ID https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/81220865-36c0-4e10-a484-6d27e2131023 and https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/86d2b779-9730-4d2c-b276-a86d42131023. I wonder if this happen because jquery modul in our web based application. But when I tried on my laptop, the problem dissapear. I tried to replicate same situation on different server, I mean I put the exact same application source to other server, never meet the same problem. Thus, I suspect may be it related to antivirus that installed in our network which is kaspersky. I am googling, never meet the clue.
If you meet the same problem, please help me.
I am so sorry for my poor english.

The crashes are a problem with the winhadnt.dll file (OCular Agent from TEC Solutions Limited) as you can see in the crash reports.

• Font is blurry, works if I go into firefox "Safe Mode"

It's not the font on the text that I type with, but the Address bar, Bookmarks(Include the images), so everything above the tabs(Include the tab text/images), and the right click menu. If I go into Firefox safe mode it all works fine, I have tried to disable all addons but the problem is still there.
Edit:
Tried to Reset firefox to default, didn't work. Uninstalled firefox and removed everything, didn't work. Downloaded firefox portable from portable apps, works, but I don't want to have it portable.

Also, you can try to right-click and Toggle the key gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to false in about:config.
# In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
# Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

* Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
* Create an allow cookie exception (Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
* In Private Browsing mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
* Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.

• Where did Firefox Safe Mode go, in v 5.0.1?

The entire program, Firefox Safe Mode, seems to be missing. I wanted to run it to determine if a Firefox crash had been related to an add-on.

Well, this question actual and for me to. Where is "Profiles" menu? How to delete certificate now?

• Why does it say in the Firefox Safe Mode article that all of the changes are temporary while in Safe Mode, then later it says "Note: The following changes cannot be undone."?

Why does it say in the Firefox Safe Mode article that all of the changes are temporary while in Safe Mode, then later it says "Note: The following changes cannot be undone."?

When you open Firefox in Safe Mode, it automatically disables your custom settings, themes, and add-ons. THOSE changes are temporary.
However, if you click any of the boxes underneath the line, "You can make some or all of these changes permanent", and then choose "Make Changes and Restart", everything you checked will be forever changed, even when you start Firefox again in 'normal' mode. [See attached image for a preview of the Safe Mode options].
To be clear:
1. If you check any of the boxes but do NOT select "Make changes and restart", those things will not be changed at all in safe mode.
2. If you select any of the boxes and you DO select "Make changes and restart", you will permanently lose any of the items you checked (bookmarks (except for backups), user preferences, etc.).
If you performed the action in step 2 above, you will only be able to restore those things if you have a previously created back-up of your Mozilla Profiles folder (not the same as the Firefox program folder).
Hope this helps.

• I was updated to Firefox 36 automatically, however, it won't start. I have tried firefox safe mode, reinstalling, uninstalling avg antivirus, eks.

Computer rebooted overnight to install updates. Everything else was fine, but now Firefox, which was updated to version 36, will not launch. Basically, I double click on it, I get a little disk access, and then nothing. I have tried starting in firefox safe mode. Same thing happens. I have uninstalled by deleting entire Mozilla Firefox from program files and reinstalling. Still won't start. I have uninstalled an old version of AVG. Still won't start. I have Microsoft Security Essentials running, and have updated it. Still won't start. I need some new ideas.

I just want to confirm one step that you took. When you say you deleted the Firefox content from program files, this may not have taken all of the Firefox related components off of your computer.
The steps you should follow to remove a potentially damaged install of firefox are:
Open your start menu, select 'program files'. In program files, select 'Programs and Features', this should open your 'Uninstall or change a program' window. In this window locate your 'Mozilla Firefox' program. Select the program with a left click then select 'Uninstall', which should appear once the program is highlighted.
This process will remove changes to the registry that may be causing issues. After fully uninstalling firefox from your programs, perform a fresh install of the latest version of the browser.
If you have already performed this process with no success then there may be other issues related to your recent windows updates, this is not uncommon. If you are having issues after a fresh install of Firefox, after using the instructions above, please check to see if your 'Internet Explorer' browser is having the same issues, if so then you may have more serious problems that will require further action.
