No sound in Flash for IE or Firefox

I've been looking for a solution to this for a few days.
First, some background:
A week or two ago, I noticed that sometimes the sound would
not play during YouTube videos. If I refreshed the page, the sound
would come back. However, a few days ago, the sound just died
totally. IE will not work, Firefox will not work. YouTube will not
work, Google Video will not work. No sound at all. Dead as a
doornail.
I've read some posts related to this on this forum, and have
seen that many many people have experienced this. I've tried all of
the "Eureka!" fixes I came across, to no avail.
For what it's worth, I'm using Windows XP, SP2. My preferred
browser is Firefox.
Here's what I've tried so far, in no particular order:
1. Uninstalling Flash and installing the newest version
2. I went to the control panel under Quicktime
preferences>>audio tab>>Default music synthesizer. I
changed this from 'quicktime music synth.' to 'general midi'
3. Entering the registry fixes regarding msacm32.drv and
others
4. Made sure msacm32.drv actually exists and is valid
5. Installed the newest full K-Lite code pack and ran the
Code Tweak Tool
6. Made sure my speakers were plugged into the correct line
in jack
7. Using System Restore to go back to a point before the
problem started
8. Shut down firewall and anti-virus to see if they were
blocking some Flash component
9. Change the Realtek driver's environment setting to "Room"
10. Made sure the "Windows Audio Service" was started.
11. In Windows Media Player, changed the default sound device
to specify my sound card
12. Went to the Flash Global Storage Settings panel but the
Third Party Flash Content was already checked.
13. Change the storage space to "unlimited" in #12's settings
Edited to add: I just created a new user account and Flash
sound DOES work in this new account. What the heck?
I'm at a loss. Any ideas about what's going on?

perhaps you could have the same problem as me, I also did all
that and nothing worked. The problem, in my case, was a tool called
CMI Audio Config, this is in the control panel. the thing is that
this tool only plays the sounds from web pages when you activate
the option of 6 speakers and rotate them cause sound only comes out
from the CENTRAL speaker. so rotate them until you got the sound. I
hope this helps you =)

  • Flash for IE *and* Firefox

Seeing that there's a version for IE and a slightly different
version for Firefox, is it OK to have both versions on a pc?

Yes. One is a plugin, the other an activeX control. Only IE
Windows uses the activeX control. All other browers and OS use a
    the plugin.

  • Is there any way to make flash for android in firefox "lock-in", that is control the flash content, not move the page when moving my fingers?

Like when i want to increase sound on youtube and it moves the page not the sound slider

Tap the fullscreen button on the Flash video?

  • [solved] Sound in flash stopped working (alsa, x86_64, rate)

    Why?
Sound in flash stopped working (alsa, firefox, x86_64). Tried flashplugin-prerelease from archlinuxfr: nothing different.
Everything worked before I rebooted. I changed nothing else since last reboot.  Can't figure out what happened.
    Updates among other things:
firefox, xulrunner (firefox I did restart - the new one had sound in flash before I rebooted)
openal, lib32openal (don't think that has anything to do with it?)
libsndfile (that's something entirely different, too, right?)
And a lot of others that don't look related... no Idea how many really, I haven't rebooted in quite a while. Maybe there even was a kernel update since last reboot. Or two.
edit: Also some interactive flash stuff that did work before has stopped working now.
edit2: Chromium doesn't have sound in flash either. Tried recompiling firefox / switching to AUR/firefox-pgo: no change. Everywhere else, sound is working fine. Also, several flash games I tried get stuck / freeze after intro.
    Thx!

    Couldn't find any changes there:

    Subdevices: 1/1

I tried the multilib version and the x86_64 prerelease. Both did work perfectly fine before I rebooted (I tried which one works better recently and couldn't see any real difference). Didn't have trouble with flash for months before this reboot.
I found a few modules I was unfamilliar with were loaded:
    snd_seq_os snd_seq_dummy snd_seq_midi_event  snd_seq snd_seq_device
... and removed them with rmmod. No change. (I should have restarted alsa at that point I guess just to make sure, those weren't the problem?)
Then I changed the rate in asound.conf to 41000 and restarted alsa - now everything works again! Strangely, no more freezes too (those were reliable).
I remember having had problems with flash not having sound unless I set the rate to 41000 about a year ago. After some updates, I tried again and all rates supported by my sound-card seemed to work. My guess would be regression in whatever fixed that problem... but I don't know.
I'll leave that "unsolved" until I manage to figure out what it really was about.

  • Sound doesn't work(only in firefox). why? sound doesn't work(only in firefox). why? (adobe flash player doesn't work even thought it's installed)

sound doesn't work (only in firefox). adobe flash player doesn't work correctly, thought it's installed. can't solve the problem. i need Sound.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == don't know

What does the Adobe test page say?
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • The Flash plug-in causes Firefox to crash for about 2 minutes every 20 seconds, it is the newest Flash update. It has happened to me both with Firefox 3.6 and 4!

Firefox for me has been fine for the past couple of years or so. Then all of a sudden about 5 months ago, everytime i would use Firefox it would crash after browsing for about 1 minute. I uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times to no avail. I then got sick of the problem and then used IE till now.
However, i heard about Firefox 4 and thought maybe this would fix it. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred! I then heard about being able to start Firefox with add-ons disabled to find any sources of problems, and i've found that the cause if Flash! It is the newest version and always has been, so i don't know what i can do, since Flash is important for most websites nowadays!?

Could you please do the following.
Download the following two files and save to your desktop. These are direct download links so you'll only see the dialog boxes which looks like the ones you see in the screenshot.
    * [http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe uninstall_flash_player.exe]
    * [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe install_flash_player.exe]
Next, close Firefox via File | Exit (''it's important that you do it this way and not just by clicking the close button'')
Next, double click the '''uninstall_flash_player.exe '''file you downloaded earlier and then '''reboot'''. A reboot is necessary to remove the setting from the Windows Registry.
Next, double click the '''install_flash_player.exe''' file to reinstall Flash.
Finally, restart Firefox and see if it made any difference.

  • When will Firefox have Adobe Flash for Android cell phones?

My website requires Adobe Flash Player to be installed to view images in my photo gallery. Why doesn't Mozilla Firefox support Adobe Flash Player? Will it be available in the very near future? This is an extremely important feature for my site.

Firefox can use Flash if it is on your device, although this may not always work perfectly. But Firefox never comes with Flash bundled in (I think this is due to Firefox using an open source software license).
This article has a link for installing Flash from Adobe's site: [[How do I watch Flash videos with Firefox for Android?]].
Regarding the design of your gallery, how does it work on Apple iOS devices that can't run Flash due to Apple policies? Maybe there's a similar "fallback" technique that can work on Firefox for Android if the user hasn't installed Flash.

  • How to intercept the Adobe Flash plugin block by firefox checking for vulnerabilities?

The trouble is the grey block, that asking to update Adobe Flash because the version is vulnerability. If the block of Flash object is smaller, then 100px height - there is an empty space, but not gray block with talking about version. I need to intercept the moment using JavaScript, when Firefox checking the version of plugin to make changes in my HTML code to make a GIF, but not flash.
How to intercept the Adobe Flash plugin block by Firefox checking for vulnerabilities from JavaScript code?

hello, i don't think that this would be possible (but i'm not sure). what you could do is try to sniff the version of flash that is installed & the firefox useragent and just assume that old versions of the plugin will be blocked in this combination.
if you need more help about that, i'd recommend posting in a forum that is more specialized & knowledgeable in web development like http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=25, since we here on the firefox support forums are primarily focused on support for end-users...

  • No sound in flash....(firefox)

it seems I have no sound with flash. though flash does work and so does my sound (I tested it with the front and center thing)
I think I know what the issue is however. See the sound card I use is my pci card but by default the pc uses my integraded sound (which doesnt work....) so I set my pci card load by default and everything works fine but flash...I think that is becuase  flash loads the intel (integaded) drivers....
I had this issue before when I was new to linux in ubuntu and I solved it be reinstalling only the drivers for my ens1370 card (the pci card) and then everything worked fine but I cant seem to recreate that in arch
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449
I followed that guide in ubuntu. Specifly that parts on making the pci card the default in modprobe.d
and uninstalling the default drivers and reinstalling the divers for my pci card...
also I Looked at alsa in the wiki and nothing there seemed to be related reinstalling drivers..

    Welcome to forums.
Since ALSA is a kernel module now, there's no installing drivers anymore. One way to get rid of your on-board sound card now is to blacklist the modules that it used in the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf.

  • Lastest Flash (16.0.0.305) is installed but Firefox still says I need Flash for most videos. Why?

I have installed flash multiple times, restarted Firefox, and everything I can think of but every time I come to a page that uses flash player it STILL Says I need Flash player to see the video or whatever is using flash. This has been going on for a while now since the last Firefox update.

In your More System Details, there is a mystery line that just says "Flash" while the official line says "Shockwave Flash". Could you use by test page to generate a list of the full information for each plugin so it's easier to figure out which one is the stranger?
    http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/jstest.asp
Scroll down a bit to the plugin list. It's the "Description" line that will say just "Flash". What is the name of the plugin?

  • How to I install Adobe Flash for Mozilla Firefox on Ubuntu 11.04

I have tried copying the Adobe 11 beta .so file to the plug-in file in the Mozilla folder, but it says I cannot change something I don't own. I have tried the 32 bit plug-in, useless.
PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO DOWNLOAD THE PLUG-IN FROM THE UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTRE, IT IS SAID TO BE INSECURE AND SAID TO TAKE UP ALL THE CPU SPACE!!!
Please just tell me how to get flash for Firefox.

On my desk top I am running windows xp. I click on the firefox icon to open it and nothing! The hourglass cursor flashes for a millisecond as if it were starting to open, then nothing. I have disabled my firewall thinking it may have something to do with that and tried again, but still nothing. Any ideas???

Try rebooting the computer first. If Firefox still does not open or if the problem returns, read these articles for other ideas:

  • Separate versions of Flash for Firefox & IE?

I normally use Firefox as my browser. Unfortunately, for
reasons beyond my control, I must on occasion use Internet
Explorer. I went to install the Adobe Flash player and found that
the Adobe downloader knows if I am accessing it through Firefox or
IE. Does this mean that there are separate versions of Adobe Flash
for Firefox and IE? If so, can I download both? If I cannot
download both, which one should I download?
    Thank you.

    a.lopov;
Ie/pc uses an active x control flash player, all other
    browsers use the
"netscape compatible "plug-in". Both can be installed on the
    same windows
system (other os don't have active x)--in fact, if memory
    serves the flash
application offers to install both players when appropriate.
