No sound in garageband 10

I get sound when I create new account on computer and use garageband 10 in the new account but on my original account that I have used for five years, I don't get any sound and am unable to search for keyboard sounds in search window.  imoji 2 for icons on my iphone poped up on my garageband screen when I treid to search for something in the garage band library.  I deleted that app in itunes, which I use for backup for my iphone but garageband still has no sound.  I also re-indexed loops with no success.  I also restored purchases and that didn't work either.  I have a midi keyboard with 61 keys which works fine in garageband in other "test" account with empty user settings.  The apple store tried re-installing garageband 10 but that didn't work either.  The apple store said I should wait for a software update that will fix the problem.  Any ideas?

If the problem only occurs in your main user account, but not in a new test user account, you probably have something installed in your user library that is interfering.
I have a midi keyboard with 61 keys which works fine in garageband
Do you have any software/drivers installed for that keyboard in your main account? Which keyboard is it? Do you have any plug-ins installed, sound fonts etc, that are only installed in your main account?
The first thing to try is to delete GarageBands preferences files and to clear the caches in your user library. Reveal your user library like this, if it is still hidden:
Quit GarageBand .
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options". Enable "Show Library Folder".
Now open the Library folder inside the Home Folder and remove these files to a folder on the Desktop: (Note, you will have to reenter all your preferences settings after this, so take a note of your settings).
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist
~/Library/Caches/garageband
After removing these files, restart your system and try GarageBand again.
Compare, if you have anything installed in
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/  or ~/Library/Audio/Midixxxxx in your main user account, that is not installed in your test account - any old midi drivers, VST plug-ins, that might need updating?

I can´t get the drum tracks of my Korg M50 to sound in garageband.  Does anyone know how?

If it's actual audio out from the M50, you just need to hook up its audio outs into whatever you're using to get sound into the computer (audio interface, the computer's input jack, whatever it is that you're using), fire up a real audio track, and record.
But if you're having difficult with drum tracks, that's usually this:
Drum tracks on many MIDI devices default to MIDI channel 10. MIDI channel 10 is like the universal MIDI channel for drum tracks. However, GB likes to see MIDI channel 1, regardless of the instrument.
Therefore, if this is a MIDI issue, you'd need to change the MIDI channel on your drum tracks from 10 to 1 to make them GB friendly.

  • No sound in garageband after Lion install.

No sound in garageband after Lion install, can anybody help please?

12 hours ago my midi played through Garageband with no problems. Today it does not play. The Garageband window shows that the keys are being played.
In the moments following I turned on iTunes and all was fine so I burned a disc in my usual factory installed burner, late 2008 iMac, and the message was "no disc burner found". I turned iTunes on and off and same message. Ran Disc Utility and no flags. I am using the Disc Utility that is on my desktop. Is there a hidden Lion disc utility? Nothing worked unless there is a hidden function.
I was able to burn using Toast. This would indicate that the problems is with iTunes 10, OS 10.7.1

  • Where can i download jam pack 4 (orchestral sounds) for garageband 6.0.5. please.   I have an air book maverick OSX 10.9.4.   Thanks

Where can i download jam pack 4 (orchestral sounds) for garageband 6.0.5. please.   I have an air book maverick OSX 10.9.4.   Thanks

This JamPack is no longer sold separately by Apple. You could search for the boxed retail version of the JamPack at eBay or Amazon.
But it is much more economic to install MainStage 3 instead. You can buy it at the Mac App Store. MainStage 3 will install all five JamPacks for a price much less than the price of a single JamPack used to be. Afterwards the JamPacks will work with Logic and GarageBAnd as well.
Just launch MainStage after installing and use the command "MainStage > Download additional content" and select the JamPacks you want to install.

  • Installation folder not found.  Kontaktplayer2 will terminate?  I can't play any of my midi sounds from Garageband.

Kontaktplayer2 will terminate?  I can't play any of my midi sounds from Garageband what gives?  I downloaded all my midi plugin's to run my M-Audio midi controller, but the patches are gone from GarageBand.  I recently had all my files "Migrated" from my old Macbook to my new one and since I have my new Macbook (only a week old) I haven't been able to use the GarageBand patches.  Can anyone give me advice?

If you did a Restore operation using the current version of iPod Updater and you still get the same results, then you should take it back and get a new one.

  • Yamaha Keyboard Sound in Garageband

I've been trying to figure this out forever but could not find out i would love and appreciate it if someone could help me.
I want my yamaha keyboard sounds to be usable in garageband and record using the instruments on my yamaha keyboard rather then the garageband instruments

As others have said, you can always record the audio out of your Yamaha into Garageband onto a real audio track, just as you'd record a guitar or mic, but you can't use your Yamaha sounds as software instrument sounds, with Garageband "playing" your Yamaha via MIDI.
More full featured music applications, like Apple's Logic would enable you to play your Yamaha like a software instrument (play synth, synth sends MIDI to computer, computer records MIDI, on playback computer sends MIDI back to synth, synth plays audio), but I doubt the hassle of setting it up would be worth it. The virtual instruments in the computer will likely sound better than the sounds that come with that particular Yamaha.

  • Keyboard sound in Garageband

    Hi,
I just wondering if any of you out there now a good way to record an electronick keyboard on Garage Band. If you know of any devices that could be used to get a decent sound recorded or any other applications that could be used I would appreciate it. The keyboard that I'm recording is a Yamaha and the computer that I'm recording on is an ibook.
If someone could respond this question I would be most grateful.
    All the best,
    Charlie

  • Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4

Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4
My daughter has an iPad 2 with GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4.  She would like to import a video file which has a sound track on it to GarageBand for iPad so that she can add an additional sound track to it.  The video/audio file to be imported would be in AVI, MPEG2 or another iPad compatible format.  Is this possible? If so, how would the mechanics work?  Would you: (1) load the file into the Movies section of iTunes and import the file from the Movies section of iTunes; (2) save the file onto an SD card and import the video/audio file from the SD card by inserting the SD card into an "SD adaptor" on an "iPad Camera Connection Kit"; or (3) email the video file to yourself and upload it to GarageBand from email?

This is part of a mobile training application and I allow the learner to record an audio response in addition to viewing the videos.  When they record a response, you can hear the playback so the device has its volume up and working when the app is running.  Since I posted this issue, I switched to .flv video and that plays ok.  It's apparently the .mp4 video that's a problem.  I'm encoding it with ffmpeg and suspect that it's something with the settings.   Do you have a recommendation for mp4 settings for OSMF?

  • Commercial Sounds for GarageBand not made by Apple

I'm going to take the unusual step of making a partial re-post from an earlier thread that wandered off-topic.
A lot of newcomers here ask about expanding the library of multi-sample software instrument sounds beyond what comes with GarageBand. Of course there are Apple's own JamPacks, but many new users are not aware that there is a much larger universe out there full of many sounds from many companies. Here is some information to get you started.
There are many companies out there which have nothing to do with Apple which are in the business of making sample libraries and players. The business goes back to the mid-1980s, before computers were used for sampling, and there are many companies in the market. They started out making sound libraries which could be loaded into musical keyboards made by companies including Akai, EMU, Yamaha, Ensoniq, Korg, et cetera ad infinitum.
Gigasampler is a Windows-only software multi-sample player put out by the Tascam company. It won't work with GarageBand.
Native Instruments is the name of the company that makes the Kontakt, Kompakt, and Intakt multi-sample player applications.
Garritan is a company that makes libraries of multi-sample sounds that you can play back using the Native Instruments Kompakt and/or Tascam Gigasampler multi-sample player applications.
EXS is the multi-sample player that comes with Apple Logic and Logic Express.
Mark of the Unicorn makes a multi-sample player application called MACH.
IK Multimedia makes a multi-sample player called SampleTank.
Universal Sound Bank makes a multi-sample player called USB.
    Steinberg/Yamaha makes a multi-sample player called Halion.
All of the programs listed above can be used with GarageBand.
And there are many others in the market that make multi-sample players that work with different computer formats: Apple AU, Mac-compatible VST, Windows-compatbile VST, Windows Direct X, and probably some others that I'm not familiar with.
The point is that the marketplace is set up like this:
There are companies that sell libraries of multi-sampled instrument sounds (hundreds of them). I haven't even mentioned any of them in this post, but they are legion.
There are companies that make multi-sample software instruments to play back the sounds from the library companies (dozens of them).
There is some overlap between the two. Some multi-sample players come with certain sound libraries, but you can purchase others to add to them.
Oh, yeah, there are companies not affiliated with Apple which make libraries of sounds that you can load directly into GarageBand, without the need for a third-party AU multi-sample player application. More of these are popping up every day.
It's a big, big market, and like I said, it's been going on for twenty years.
If you want to learn about software instruments and sample libraries outside of the Apple GarageBand world, I suggest you check out the following US magazines:
    Keyboard
    Electronic Musician
    and the following Web sites:
    www.harmony-central.com
    www.kvraudio.com
www.macmusic.org (which is bilingual in French and English)
Finally, I think I need to put up a FAQ on a web page with some more specific information, if Hangtime doesn't hold a patent on the whole concept.
    Cheers,

Then they are probably in the Application Support>Logic Express folder. Try copying them to Application Support>Garage Band folders (there are two, one for the samples, one for the .exs files). Remember what you do so you can reverse the installation if need be. Restart GarageBand and see if you can see the instruments.

  • NO SPEAKER SOUND IN GARAGEBAND, BUT FINE IN ITUNES

I can't get sound from my speakers in GarageBand. There's sound, though, through my headphones. Yet, when I go to iTunes, I have no problem with my speakers at all. Help!

I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro with (2) M-Audio DX4 speakers. GarageBand comes through my Mac speakers if I shut the Fast Track off, but won't come through the DX4's when I turn them on. But, everything works fine when I am in iTunes. It's only GarageBand that I am having the problem. A couple of weeks ago I couldn't get sound from iTunes at all, but I could from GarageBand. Now, it's like it did a flip-flop. Weird.

  • MIDI recognized, but no sound in Garageband

Hello. I've been using a Casio CTK-411 simply as a MIDI controller, and whenever I plug it into the computer it says that the MIDI is recognized, but for some reason no sound comes out when I try to record. Everything was working for me before, but it just stopped suddenly one day, I don't even recall making any changes to my preferences/settings or anything. However, when I look at the Garageband preferences now it shows I could use the Built-In Input and the Built-In Output settings, but there is no longer a setting for USB despite that Garageband recognizes my MIDI. What's going on here?
Could it possibly be that my MIDI controller itself is broken, but the USB cable works fine? If I detach my MIDI controller, it still says that a MIDI input is detected. I'm not sure what I did to cause everything to stop working so suddenly. I need to get recording soon too.
    Thanks for your help.

These options are for the audio input, for midi you don't get a selection.
It is weird that your computer detects a midi device when none is connected!
When you're playing on your keyboard and have a software instrument track activated - does the little blue light in the corner of the LED field light up when you strike a key?

  • No sound in Garageband after rewiring Reason to it

    Hello all,
i hope someone knows the answer to the following.
I am using Reason 3 with a rewired track to Garageband 3. (GB 3 is my host application)
When I press play in GB, both GB and Reason start running, which they should do because they are rewired. But, whatever I try, I can't seem to get the Reason track sounding within GB.
    Any suggestions here?
    thanks!

    Howdy,
I am sorry for this post, I am kinda new at all of this ReWire lingo.
I am glad I came across this post. I am having the same problem. I load GB 3 first. Then, I load Reason 3. I can hear the synthesizer in GB, but I also hear the piano setting. When I try to record I can hear the synth from Reason in GB, but when I playback I just hear piano?!?!
This may sound crazy, but I can NOT find my "Ableton Live" folder to delete. I have tried using the path through the Application Support, and it is NOT there!?
    Am I taking crazy pills?
    hope you can help.
    jason.

Does anyone have the same problem or a solution to this?

Same problem. I use a bluetooth speaker most of the time, but the tinny ipad speaker has no sound either.
Someone suggested a reset of garageband, but I'm not sure how to do that.

  • How Can i Create my own sounds in Garageband?

I know how to take songs and create them into ringtones for my iphone but i would like to know how i can create a simple sounding text messaging notifier from garageband. Anyone have any ideas?

I just imported an mp3 into Garageband.
I sent it to iTunes via the "Share" menu.
