No sound in line out port

I am experiencing a weird problem. I can play music from my itunes, the internet, etc., and the sounds come out into my external speakers just fine. When i hook up something like a tape deck to the audio in port on my computer- I get no sound. I've gone into preferences- sound, Input, and choose "audio line in"- and I can see the input levels working just fine. When I go to Output- all i get is "built in audio" as an option?
I added software called "Audio Hijack" to capture sound on my computer and record it. I put something called " sunflower" into my output devide- but it's not highlighted, and I don't think it's the problem.
Shoulden't there be an additional audio line out showing up under preferences- output?. Is it hidden in my computer?

I don't have any way of geting sound into my QS, but I'm thinking that it just doesn't go in the Sound In then to the Sound Out, (may be way off on this), but needs to be captured/recorded, then played back to Sound Out.

  • Sound problems with back line out port

Hey everyone, I just sent an email to MSI Tech Support, but figure I would post a message here as well.  I just put together a new system, but I'm having a problem with the back line out port.
My problem: When I plug in the front panel audio connectors (Left Audio Out, Left Audio Return, Right Audio Out, Right Audio Return) in the motherboard on pins 5-6 and 9-10 of JAUD1, the back line out does not work properly.  I get sound on only the right speaker of the headphones.
    More info:
    - Audio Driver: 5.10.0.5620 (from MSI CD)
    - If I instead plug the headphones on the front audio line out, then sound is fine
    - Here's the strange part, if I unplug the front audio connectors from the motherboard (and short pins 5-6, 9-10 with the jumpers, obviously), then the sound on the back line out works properly!
    - My Windows sound settings are fine
Has anyone heard of this problem?  Any ideas/suggestions of what I could try?
Could this be a defective board?  Could it be bad wires on the case?  Seems unlikely since both back line out and front line out work depending on what I have setup.
    Help! :-)
    Thanks,
    icab

    Rear sound problem
Third time this has come up in 1 or 2 weeks.
    Steve,
I appreciate the reply, but I believe you are wrong.  Yes, I have searched the forum and did find that thread.  Yes, I have read the manual.  The only thing that it says is: "If you don't want to connect to the front audio header, pins 5 & 6, 9 & 10 have to be jumpered in order to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports. Otherwise, The Line-out connector on the back panel will not function."  That's not my case since I want both ports to work (not outputting the signal both at the same time, obviously).
This can't be ByDesign.  Either my board is defective or MSI is not following the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity Guide correctly.  The whole point of having 4 wires for the front panel audio ports, 2 of the wires being Aud_Ret_R and Aud_Ret_L, is so that the audio signal is sent to the front line out and _returned_ to the back line out if nothing is plugged in the front line out.
I have an IBM machine with an intel mobo at work and it works as mentioned in the design guide.
Any other ideas, anyone? I can still RMA my motherboard, but it's a design issue, i guess I'm stuck. I never got an automated reply from MSI Tech Support, so I guess my email never went through.  I'll send another email and let the forum know of the results.
    Thanks,
    Igor

  • No audio from line out port

hello, i am using plug-powered speakers on my powermac g5 using the front headphone port. the speakers work fine this way, but when i use them on the line out port in the back, i get a high pitched hissing sound and very quiet audio. the computer detects the speakers, and i am sure i'm using the output port ] ))) and not the input port >o<. how can i get the speakers to work from the line out port so i don;t have to use the front headphones port? thanks!

i have a question. if i have standard apple ipod headphones, and use them on the rear audio out port, will i get the same sound as the headphones port on the front?
i still can't get this to work. i'm starting to believe this is a hardware problem, all the settings are identical for audio out and headphones in audio MIDI setup, but i'm still not getting any sound when i use the rear.

  • Clicking sound on line out

Does anyone know why I am getting a clicking sound (about 80 bpm) on the line out port but not on the front output port. This is a 3GZ mac pro running OSX 4.9. Also, what's the proceedure for getting the machine fixed while still (just barely) under warranty? Hopefully it's just a software problem. Thanks, Ron

Do you have your audio cables running close to strong power sources, power cables etc? This can sometimes create noises similar to the kind of thing you're describing. That would be the first thing I'd want to rule out before checking the hardware itself.

  • Audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector) not working Iphone 4 os 4.2

For my new iphone4, the audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector)is not working. Both using a cable to mini jack (3,5 mm) or in dockingstation.
    I'm using OS 4.2.
    IS this a bug?
    Thanks
    Hans

I just came back from the Apple store.  My iPhone4 DOES have a working line out when plugged into a Apple name brand dock connector.   I don't know why my SendStation refuses to work only with the iPhone4 yet works with iPods, etc..
Solution? I'm buying an Apple iPod dock connector for home and will try to find something with line out for the car - Apple says they do not make one.

  • Does the Universal Dock provide a true Line-Out port?

I recently bought a Universal Dock for my new black iPod. However, when I tried to connect it with an audio system or with video editing equipment, it turned out that it did not provide a true line-out signal. Instead, what came out was just the same sound as when using the headphone port. This means much less dynamics as the sound is obviously filtered and processed by an equalizer. I can raise the volume with the scroll wheel, but that is not the point. I'm sure this used to be different with my old 3rd generation iPod and a conventional dock. Even when I hook up the iPod with a Belkin Pocket Dock, I get a true and clear line-out signal with a constant volume, no matter whether the Pod's volume control is up or down. What's wrong here? Why does Apple suggest you get line-out when you can't? Is there a third party solution which supports the Apple remote control?
    Thanks! Joerg.

I get line out with mine and the volume wheel does
not have any effect on the sound. You are connecting
to the 3.5 connector on the dock?
Yes, of course. This puzzles me. You are using a UNIVERSAL dock, not a conventional one? I mean, the one that you can operate with a remote control? As I said, I checked the problem with another universal dock at my retailer, and it showed the same problem. No full line-out, and the volume wheel DID have an effect on the sound. Should I e-mail Apple about this and ask them whether they sell different kinds of docks depending on the respective continent? And is there any Apple e-mail address for complaints/questions like this?
    Thanks anyway!

  • Audio problems - soft sound, no line-out detected

ok, so a number of things went wrong with my computer.
it was working perfectly, and i opened garage band up to record music, and all of a sudden, no sound was coming out. at this stage i was using the line-out to my stereo amp. it also wouldnt let me change the volume and came up with the circle-with-a-line-through-it symbol.
i did all the standard stuff, close garage band, play with the settings, go into system pref. restarted it, and then it was making some strange fuzzy noises, and system pref. said that no audio devices were detected, so i restarted again. now i only have built-in output detected, and its very quiet, even on full volume, the volume and mute controls all work.
so thats all of my problems. im currently running OS X 10.4.10 on an intel-based iMac.
    thanks

    Folks,
on Nov. 29, 2007 we have begun shipping a revised PocketDock Line Out USB, which is now iPhone-enabled. We have also revised the 1/8" stereo plugs on the included cables, so they are now thin enough to fit the iPhone’s recessed headphone jack.
Note that not all retailers might have the newest stock, so if you want to be on the safe side, either ask for which revision they sell (the iPhone-option is mentioned on the packaging) or order directly from http://www.sendstation.com.

  • NO SIGNAL FROM SOUND CARD LINE OUT JA

I have a Sound Blaster Li've-Value Digital 024 card on my pc, and I have been trying to use the line out (black) jack, but there is no audio signal coming from it. I use the green jack for my external speakers and they work fine,I have plugged them into the black output and still no sound.
What am I doing wrong, I need som help ?

    Dubmaster,
The Black Jack is the rear speaker output, it does not play the same signal as the front speaker out. Set the system to 4. on speaker settings in Audio HQ and it will enable the rear speakers. This will turn on the output for the rear jack.

  • Sony WX-GT90BT - No sound - RCA/Line out to amp

Just installed a new Headunit (Sony WX-GT90BT) with a small amp to supply more power to my speakers.  I have properly wired the amp into the speakers and I am using the RCA (line out) cables to link into the headunit.  The headunit turns on but there is no sound.
I have checked and rechecked all the fuses and wire configurations.  Everything is as it should be, I was wondering if maybe the RCA ouputs are disabled by default. If thats the case does anyone know how to enable them. Any help would be much appreicated.

I also encounter the same issue. It would be great if someone could help. Thanks!

  • No sound from Line out on X-Fi El

I have lost my sound from the Line Outs on a X-Fi elite. Or rather I can hear it but only if the volume is a 00% and then it is very poor quality. I have been using the Headphone Jack on the breakout box and this is my first time trying the Line Out. Can somebody tell me if the Line out is supposed to be a true low power Line out or is it capable of powering unpowered speakers or some small headphones. It seems to me that headphones should work fine from the Line out, so what do you suppose my problem is? I have checked the normal (IRQ, Drivers, default device, volumes, etc.). Any ideas? I'm running an MSI Nforce3 250gb board.
    thanks...

    mr. kat,
unfortunately, I don't have Playcenter -- I downloaded the file from Creative, and am met with the same message I receive when attempting to install Creative Recorder on win XP: nothing to upgrade, so no go on the install. I don't know how to get the data onto win XP in order for it to be upgraded. :0
I do remember there being CMSS back when I ran this device with my win98 computer, and that probably has something to do with it. I don't have EAX console either, but I do have the EAX Control Panel (aka Audio HQ) and there were no CMSS features there.
I have heard that one can use the SB Audigy installation with their SB Li've! cards and it will work -- have you heard anything to that effect?
    Thanks,
    mono

  • Is it possible to record sound from line out ?

    Hi,
I am wondering is it possible to capture the live audio which is coming out to headphone, using Java Sound API?
I have searched through the Java Sound API and looks like it is impossible. So I want some experience guys throw some light on this.
    Thanks.

I have the same question more or less. Can an HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter cable be used to capture video into iMovie?

  • Universal Dock: Line Out isn't really Line Out!

I recently purchased a new Apple Universal dock for use with my Ipod touch. The goal as to access the line out port to hook up to my stereo (driving a stereo through the headphone jack is not the way to go)
I was led to believe that the Line Out capability of the Ipod touch bypasses the internal headphone amplifier, thereby solving all the problems inherent in using the headphone jack (i.e. impedance mismatch, volume too low, etc.)
Such is not the case. With the Universal dock's line out, the sound is exactly as crappy as through the headphone jack, and when I put the output on the scope, it was nowhere near the standard line-level voltage.
Any ideas as to what gives here? I suspect the Universal Dock is not really providing a line out at all....

The iTransport turns any currently available iPod player into a high-end media server by providing a bit-perfect digital audio output to an audio/video system, bypassing the player’s internal digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) and analog output stage. Subsequently, the audio signal remains clean and unadulterated throughout the path, outputting a “bit-perfect” digital stream. The iTransport is compatible with:
All Current iPods All iPod Nano Models The iPod Classic Models iPod Video Generation 5 Also the New iPod Touch/iPhone Models
To ensure compatibility, please make sure your iPod has received all software updates before docking it with the iTransport
“The Wadia iTransport is the coolest product I’ve encountered in some time. If you own an iPod and a high-end system, the iTransport is essential!”- Robert Harley, The Absolute Sound, November 2008
“The iTransport let me hear every detail as readily as did playing [a disc] on the [$6200] Simaudio SuperNova. If there was a difference between the original CD and the digital output of the iTransport, I never heard it!”
    - Wes Phillips, Stereophile, Class-A Rating, October 2008
“This is a brilliant product! One that finally lets the iPod be all that it can and should be. It took the imagination and know-how of a firm like Wadia to pull this concept off. The real genius of the iTransport is that it lets you pull digital audio straight off the iPod and route them to a superior-sounding outboard DAC. You’ll have an audio player that not only rivals (but in some cases handily outperforms) multi-thousand-dollar music servers and CD players!”
    - Chris Martens, Playback Magazine, August 2008
“Until now, there has been no real bridge between the convenience of an iPod and the high-end audio listening experience,” commented John W. Schaffer, President, Wadia Digital “The goal of making the player a true high-end media server has been hampered by the need to send the digital signal through a portable player’s D/A converter rather than that of a high performance audio system. We designed iTransport to bypass the player’s converter and output stage altogether. When used with an iTransport, theiPod becomes a digital music source equal to some of the finest sounding transports in the high-end audio market.”
Along with turning an iPod into a high-performance audio server, iTransport is one of the first docks to access video content stored on currently available iPods. Similar to the audio section, the video signal is made available via high performance component outputs that provide up to DVD-quality video.
The Wadia 170 iTransport measures 2” x 8” x 8” (H/W/D), making it an easy addition to most racks and entertainment centers. Wadia incorporates a bit-perfect S/PDIF digital output and high-resolution component digital video output, as well as analog audio and video outputs for easy connection with most audio/video systems. Your iPod will be charged while in the dock and the iTransport comes complete with a remote to control all iPod functions.
“I can tell you this much, it sounds fantastic! The dream of the iPod being a true audiophile component has now been realized and the sound quality is limited only by the DAC you own….the iPod through the 170 fooled a lot of people at my place into thinking they were listening to a five figure player!”

  • Optical digital audio out port

    Here is the situation:
The only problem I have with my Mac Pro is that the Audio line-out port does not work reliably in Boot Camp. The audio output cuts out easily and then I have to "jiggle" the speaker cable to get the sound back. And I have determined that it is the audio line-out port that is at fault, not the speakers, nor the cable.
So I want to try to work around this by utilizing the optical digital audio out port.
But I don't understand how it works.
Does this port connect directly to appropriate digital speakers?
If so can someone recommend a decent set of digital speakers that will connect directly.
Or does the optical digital audio port connect to an amplifier or receiver and them to speakers?
    Thanks

have you tried other speakers or headphones and what version bootcamp drivers are you using?

With the suggestions i have below the set-up is like this:
Subwoofer - Connects to 2 (Stereo or technically 2.1) or 5 (5.1) speakers
The subwoofer connects to a control pod (which has the optical inputs, coax inputs, and analog inputs - atleast all 3 are on the z5500)
    Digital/Optical Audio:

Suggested Speakers; I Personally have 2 pairs of the Z-5500 set, true high quality audio and variety of settings for whatever you use them for, i have been so pleased by them and their warranty service is by far the best ever, anything ever happens to them, theyll send you a replacement set, logitech/apple great customer service, i also posted a few other priced ones if youre not looking for a huge set up:

  • GX740 - Anyone get two TRUE separate audio streams out Headphones and LINE OUT?

Hoping for an update on this. I asked MSI via their support section and wow... what a FAIL that was:
    Quote
Do you have new specific drivers that allow TRUE 4 channel output? 2 out the headphones and 2 separate out the LINE OUT as implied by the design? I've tried everything and it doesn't work.
    I've tried ASIO4YOU drivers - doesn't work.
I've tried every RealTek driver out there - nothing.
Yes, I've set the RealTek driver to do multiple out but it sends the audio out the HDMI port, NOT THE LINE!
I know this can be done cause you can set the REALTEK for 7.1 and you get separate streams out the headphones and line-out ports!
Please - you've sold a laptop with "Headphone Out" and "Line Out" yet it fails to actually do that - NEW DRIVERS PLEASE?

    Dear Customer,
Please go to msi global website to download the audio driver, then install it.
    audio driver:
    http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-15227.html
Needless to say, that did nothing. In fact, I can't understand how I could of received such an answer given it made no sense what-so-ever. Download the driver that came with it? One that's now almost a year old?
Regardless... I've tried that one. I've tried the latest RealTek drivers. I've tried a multitude of ASIO drivers. NOTHING WORKS. Yes, I've set the RealTek to send TWO SEPARATE STREAMS. That does NOTHING. The only thing I've been able to ascertain is that you can send one stream out the headphone/line out (same thing) AND one out the HD port which is useless.
Here's the pain in the ass: If you go to the RealTek setup and change it to 7.1 and hit TEST, you DO hear separate output out the HEADPHONE JACK and the THIRD Audio Out jack which is the side fills so I know this laptop CAN spit audio out two separate outputs sitting on the side of the computer.
Why do I want to do this:
Simple. I'm lugging around an external audio interface for DJing and it's a pain. I'd rather just tap the headphones out for, well, headphones and send the line out or that third audio output to the DJ mixer. Done! I've tried MIXMEISTER, VIRTUAL DJ, NOTHING WORKS! I can select various strangely named outputs insinuating speaker out, speaker out + 1, etc... but no... it doesn't work at all...
Sooooooooo... has ANYONE been able to get this to work? I'd love to know...

Yea Stu... been through this part... Playback devices show the typical:
    1. Speakers (Realtek) -> Plays on ext. speakers but sounds like just treble. Headphone Out plays this stream.
    2. RealTek HD Audio 2nd output -> Plays on ext. speakers but sounds like bass/mids. No treble. NO OUTPUT PLAYS THIS. Plug anything in and sound from the speakers just shuts off
    3. Realtek HDMI Output (Not selectable)
    4. Realtek Digital Output (Not selectable)
So yea, it seems right out of the box there is a problem with the sound on this unit. Choosing speakers sounds like crap (no mid/bass) and choosing HD Audio 2nd output sounds like crap (all mid/bass no treble).
There is no discrete dual audio out the jacks.
HOWEVER - Go choose 7.1 from the realtek setup and do a test. Well what do you know, DISCRETE 2ND AUDIO OUTPUT OUT THE HEADPHONE JACK AND THE 3RD OUTPUT JACK OF THE 4 IN A ROW. This PROVES you can have two discrete stereo audio streams coming out the output jacks. Just need someone to write the driver for it.
Here's the thing. This laptop HAS 4 1/8" JACKS. SEE:
Here's what the manual says about the output jacks:
