No sound in multimedia playback after update (xine,vlc,mplayer)

Hi!
For some days now I don't have sound anymore in amarok and vlc. Since the sound works on e.g. youtube I don't know how to find the root of the problem and of course not the solution. In amarok my sound card doesn't show up any more. I'm using ALSA. "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" doesn't give any output. (I don't know if it matters.)
I already spent time in searching (googling) by myself without success. Can anyone give me a hint?

No, I even had it in the modules but the "!" makes no difference.

When I tell vlc to use alsa. (Which wasn't necessary before.) I get this as a "pop-up error":

Please update alsa-lib to version 1.0.23-2-g8d80d5f or higher to try to fix this issue.
But pacman tells me:

EDIT: I just tried KDE. (I have it installed but don't use it.) Everything is weird. I can't press anything right with the mouse because everything is mirror inverted and some zones are covered with a weird mix of pixels...fact is KDE doesn't work fine on my computer right now.

I updated my AppleTV today, and now it won't play my music stored in the device and there is no sound from the unit. Any fixes?

Same problem here. Whe I power cycle TV or go to another channel and back, HDMI syncs and sound is back for about 5 seconds, then it is gone again. Seems like a broken HDMI handshake...
I do get the startup sound and some menu soundeffects. Even AirTunes from MacBook to ATV and then to TV is working! but none of ATVs local contents or internet trailers give any sound.

Premiere pro CC drop playback after update 7.2.1

Why premiere pro cc drop playback after update 7.2.1? I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with ATI Radeon HD6770m 1GB. Premiere pro cc 7.1.0 run normal, ok, without crashing and drop-freeze frame, but after update 7.2.1 i have all this problems.

Just came on here to post about the buzzing transitions, glad to see it's been fixed already!
Another thing though I don't see mentioned, since moving to 7.2 I find audio playblack is out of sync while editing, and in some clips significantly more noticeably than others. This only happens during playback, if I pause and scrub manually, the audio is perfectly in sync. This actually messed up a project for a client. I thought the audio off the camera was out of sync in one segment so I bumped it a few frames before exporting. Didn't check it after of course and sent him the file, then got a reply back that it was out of sync in that spot. Check the exported video and sure enough, he was right. Check it again in project but it looks in sync. So I bump the audio back in the timeline so that it LOOKS out of sync again during playback, but the new exported video is perfectly in sync!
Editing a TV show now with hundreds of clips and it's maddening with some looking fine, some looking a little off, and some looking completely off and having to manually scrub to check and be sure along the way.
Hopefully this is also fixed in this update..will see tomorrow.

I have exactly the same issue as everyone above. I only get sound through the slider on the ringtone in settings and through my headphones. I do not get any sound anywhere else at all.
I Have tried:
- Updating to iOS 6.1.3
-re starting the device
-checking that the device is not muted. My slider switch is set to mute rather than lock and is unmuted.
-going into general settings and reset all settings
-the device reset several times (waiting until I saw the all important apple logo)
-removing the last few apps I installed.
Nothing at all has worked, please help!

Hello everyone, I am having the exact same issue. My charger stopped working following 7.0.3 upgrade. I since bought couple more charger (must admit one was definately counterfiet; and the other one what I believe to be genuine purchased from ebay). I even tried my friend's genuine apple charger that came with his 5s which is also not working.

After updating my AppleTV3 to IOS 5.1 there is no sound from mine .M4V files.
MP4 plays just fine. My apple TV is connected to LAN, and uses HDMI through my receiver.
Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Bought a new ATV3 and updated software. Gives me picture, but no sound when I play movie trailers on the Apple service. Also, no sound when I play purchased movies. These same trailers and movies play through my ATV1. Installed my new HDMI cable on the ATV1. No change.
I'm not interested in plugging directly into the TV. As I use an HDMI switch, the ATV3 follows the same path through the receiver.
Right now the thing is just a paper weight. Doesn't give me sound when mirroring from my iPad which was my reason for buying it.

Help with video playback after updating to 3.1

Hi there, after updating to 3.1 on my 2nd gen iPod Touch, I restored it and loaded some videos I converted. On playing those files, the video would play normally until at a random point the video frame would freeze, while the audio continues to play. If I quit the video app and go back to the video, it would play again normally for maybe 1 minute and then the video frame would freeze again, while audio still continues.
These video files were working perfectly before I updated to 3.0, so I doubt that there is a problem with the files. Could someone suggest what I should do in this situation? Should I revert the firmware back to what it was before updating to 3.0?

I have the same issue, except that if I let it go on for a few secomds the video eventually catches up. I am also watching converted videos, and mine are in mp4 format. I haven't tried m4v yet but this is still a bug that Apple should fix.

See if installing the XP audio driver works...
Download and run this driver. If it automatically installs the audio, great. If not...close out of any error windows.

Go to the device manager and click on the multimedia audio controller needing drivers.
Click on the driver tab. Click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
The select Have Disk and browse to: C:\SWSetup\sp33443\CPL30A5a and select the Conexant High Definition Audio from the list and see if the driver installs.
Then reboot.

Premiere choppy playback after update

I'm having a rather bizarre issue which has just came about recently.
I've been running PPro CC successfully for six months without issue. After the most recent update to 7.2.2 I'm having choppy playback both in the source and program monitors. I'm editing mostly AVCHD from a Panasonic HMC80 camera. The choppy playback occurs regardless of resolution or frame rate. I even tried a standard DV file and that too is playing back not smooth. Changing the playback resolution to 1/2, 1/4 etc.. makes no difference. Changing from Mercury software to hardware makes no difference. I tried creating a new project as well as clearing cache files, previews, etc.. and still have the problem. As a last effort, I re-installed my OS, and re-installed Creative Cloud and Premiere. The issue is still present. My hardware cannot be the issue as I've been editing successfully before. Nothing has changed except for the Premiere update. I've read elsewhere that others are experiencing the same issue. Any thoughts?

Im having the same problem. Didnt show up until after the 7.2 update.
Major lag on one specific spot in the timeline, and muting all tracks makes no difference on the lag.
I cleaned my project file, caches, downgraded playback resolution, tried the mercury playback function. Nothing. Now the choppiness seems to bleed into the rest of the project until it is all so slow and unplayable. I'm having a harder time finishing this project as time goes on.

No sound from Thunderbolt Display after update to OS X 10.9.3

So I updated to 10.9.3 this morning only to find there is no sound coming from my Thunderbolt Display after installation. Sound is now only audible from my MacBook Pro (late 2011). Also, see image below, there is no sign of any connected inputs other than my MBP now. I've shutdown and restarted a number of times, but still no audio from the display.
Really starting to wonder why it's worth spending so much on Apple products now...

I sent my TB Display in for repair. They had it almost a week and didn't find anything wrong with it. Instead they took in my MacBook Pro and replaced the logic board (2nd time it had been replaced) and the Display seems to be working fine now.
...except that for using 3rd party video conf apps, those apps only pick up the MBP camera (even though i try to change settings in app), not the TBD camera... but FaceTime and Skype find the TBD camera.

Sound issues in games after updates

Hi all,
I have a Quad w/ 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD and 7800GT. Just a couple of days ago, all the games I play worked fine (Rise of Nations, Rainbow Six III, Ghost Recon, America's Army etc. etc.). Now, when I load Ghost Recon, I get music on the menus, but no sound at all in the game. Rainbow Six III refuses to load at all (I get a blank black screen). America's Army's sound seems to be of terrible quality now, and finally, once Rise of Nations passes the intro movie and gets to the splash screen, it quits just as the music plays and loads the menu.
I've checked all audio settings everywhere - in the games, system prefs etc. iTunes still works fine, and I can still watch movies.
This only started happening after I installed a few Apple updates (specifically, the latest Security Update and iPhoto). I thought that if I updated QuickTime the problem may go away, so I downloaded the patch but this did not fix anything.
I ran the extended hardware test to see if anything got picked up, but it doesn't appear to test the Sound Card (which I am suspecting). It's more likely a software issue though, right?
Any one else in a situation similar to mine? Would a simple re-install of Tiger fix up the issues?

Ipad air sound and battery problem after updating to ios 7.1

After ios 7.1 update my ipad air passcode sound is muted for first digit. The audio volume is lowered in video player.
The worst thing is battery is draining faster.

SOUND LOW ON RINGER AFTER UPDATE.

Has anyone been able to fix the ringtones that are much lower after the last update?

Personally what I do is turn up my ringer 75% and it sounds as loud as any other phone to turn it up or down go to sounds under your general settings and turn the ringer up higher if you have it at maximum and it is still to low then it's the ringtone your using or you have blown you speaker their is only 1 speaker on the 4s and 4 models it's the right one on the bottom and the one on the left is the microphone this is a fact only known to some apple users many believe it's both and figure their speaker is broken on one side.

Sounds didn`t work after update to iOs 7.1

After the update to iOs 7.1 the sounds (incoming calls, Whats App, Facebook) didn`t work on my iPhone 4 when the screen is locked. If I like to hear music or the screen is unlocked, they work.
Can somebody tell me what happened and how to solve that problem? Thanks for your help!

No problems with Wi-Fi on iOS 7 here.
Try restoring the software > iTunes: Restoring iOS software
Might want to try this first ...
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

10.2 No Playback After Update - solved

just in case anyone else gets this ... Had me stumped for a bit .
updated to Yosemite from Mavericks so I could use FCP 10.2. Among other things I also updated my Audio interface driver ( Apogee One ) and tested it it. Worked fine.
Updated FCP X along with ProVideo updates.
it launched fine and worked in all respects except it would play anything .! Hitting play gave a 3 sec. Beach ball then the app sat there . Nothing!nActivity Monitor showed FCP X using 100% CPU.
Messed around a lot ... permissions, prefs all that ... To no effect.
FInally I uninstalled and reinstalled the Apogee audio drivers and all came good.

Download and reinstall OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update if you upgraded an existing Yosemite system. Otherwise, do this:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
