No sound in multiple applications at once
This is an issue that has bothered me with arch for a while but I didn't care much about fixing until now. With more and more games coming to Linux I want to have my own music playing in the background but I can't.
So for an example let's take two applications like flash and teamspeak3. I have sound in flash and I do have sound in teamspeak when they are not running at the same time. When I'm running ts3 and then open a website with flash it will have no sound and vice versa. I used to have this issue with Ubuntu some time ago (new versions of Ubuntu seem to not get that issue, but I don't know how they solved it). On Ubuntu I used aoss to solve this problem but it doesn't seem to work on Arch.
And I'm sorry if there has been a solved topic with this issue already, I searched for a while and the only one I found was a one post topic with no solution.

This is not an uncommon use case for Archers, so reading the various wiki

I already did some research about my problem but I did not find a solution for my problem yet. I configured my .asoundrc so that I have a permanent upmix from 2.0 to 5.1. But with the current configuration I cannot have multiple applications play sound at the same time.

With this configuration Exaile gives an error on playback "Cannot open device for playback". VLC plays just stereo...
What I want to have is this:
Stereo should be upmixed to 5.1. But signals that already are 5.1 should not be changed. With pulseaudio on Ubuntu this was easy to do but I don't want to have pulseaudio at the moment. I had some trouble with it.
I tried some .asoundrc from this thread but they did not work.
Maybe someone can help me?For some reason it shows nothing. Sound is still not working but the output of mplayer is different now:

VLC shows the same error and Exaile says "konfigured audiosink 'bin1' does not work". But in .asoundrc there is no "bin1"...
It's exactly the same .asoundrc you posted above.

I noticed that nano messed the line breaks up. So longer comments started in a new line and were not commented of course. I fixed that. Now the output is:

Playing sound from multiple applications?
Hi, I recently started using Arch and I'm loving it but I have one problem. My ALSA can only play sound from one application at a time, so I have to use pulseaudio for the others. But pulseaudio doesn't recognize my mic so I can't remove ALSA. ALSA just says "device busy" or something. And yes I tried to search before posting but didn't find an answer.

Satellite L50-A-10W - Multiple applications using sound cause crackle
When I have multiple applications running, for example:
Youtube playing a video, being on skype and playing a game.
They sometimes shut down/mute the other application, or cause the sound from all of them crackle.
It is getting a bit frustrating.
The drivers I have are DTS Studio sound, and the IDT sound card driver.
I can make the crackles stop by turning off the EQ in DTS Studio but that is only a temporary solution for a short period of time, and I need a permanent solution to thiis problem.
My laptop is a Toshiba L50-A-10W.
I have tried multiple headphones already, and connecting an external soundcard and using the jack output of that one works(I don't think that's relevant though).
Any help is appreciated, and I really need it.

Well, I think we can only assume about possible reasons.
I dont think that there is a magic or primary solution.
If you think that the driver/software causes this issue, I would recommend you to reinstall this software.
Uninstall the DTC studio. Clean the system (good freeware software is CCLeaner)
Reboot the notebook, download the DTS software and install it again.
You could also test the notebooks sound appearance without the installed DTS software. -
Assign multiple relationships at once
Hi everyone...I am working in Primavera P6 Project Management Release: 7.0 Service Pack 3 (Build #: 00033036)
When trying to assign multiple relationships at once, my computer will not allow me to capture multiple activities that have been assigned as either a predecessor or successor. I can highlight them, but when I click the assign button they all briefly flash as being captured then the assignment only shows the first activity in my complete schedule?
I am able to log into a co-workers machine with my credentials and perform this task, but not on my machine. Do you have any suggestions?

I assume this is all in the same project? It sounds like your project profile security settings could be different than your co-workers. I would see if there is a conflict between your settings from the admin perspective.

Watching iTunes Movie on Apple TV while streaming sound to multiple AirPlay speakers

I bought a pair of Airplay speakers and Apple TV 3rd generation to watch my Movies in the iTunes library. Importantly, I want to listen to the movies sound on multiple Airplay speakers while watching. So far I couldn't activate the speakers, once I started the movie.

I'm doing signal processing and work with videos professionally. The audio signal is technically always separated (and extractable) from the video frames. I don't see why the audio shouldn't be possible to be distributed to different airplay clients?
Do you mean that this option is just not supported by apple? In this case, do you know if it is at least possible to stream to multiple apple TV's at the same time? -
Multiple Applications Crashing on Startup, possibly Safari related
Hello All,
Sorry the title is a bit vague. When I got into work this morning I was unable to open Safari and Mail. On further investigation NetNewsWire and FontExplorer X also crash, it seems to be any application that uses a Safari window (WebKit?) to render content (NetNewsWire for feeds, FontExplorer X for the online store).
Mail opens but no windows are displayed, all the others crash with "The application quit unexpectedly".
I can provide crash reports if you think they will be useful.
Things I have tried, but haven't helped:
- creating a test user account and trying the apps there, no luck they still crash
- reinstalling Safari from the Leopard disk using Pacifist
- removing all Safari .plist files, Cache etc
Thanks for any help in advance, I'm at a lost end now.

Multiple-application crashing usually points to either corruption in the Hard Drive directory, or perhaps equipment problems such as RAM.
Let's look at the software side first. To check for possible directory problems open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. Single-click your HD on the left, on the right the First-Aid panel will open. Lower right you'll see "verify disk". Select it. After a few minutes, you'll know if your HD is OK or has errors. If errors are present, you'll need to correct them via your Leopard Installer Disc, which requires your starting up from the Installer Disk.
To do so, insert the DVD into the computer. After it loads, restart the system. When the screen goes dark, hold down the C key. Once the grey Apple screen appears you can let go of the C key.
When the DVD is fully loaded, select Disk Utility in the Utility menu. A window will open showing your HD on the left. Single click on your HD, then select "repair disk" in the lower right of the screen (First Aid Panel). If errors appear during the "repair", rerun the utility until you get a clean pass. Then quit the Utility and Installer, letting the computer restart.

Problem with multiple applications using one audio output
Hey there, I'm having issues setting up my 5.1 headset seen here (http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/x-tatic-digital) to work with multiple applications.
Right now I have audio streaming from a flash video, when I try run "$ speaker-test -c 6" I get the following error:
speaker-test 1.0.25
Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
If I try open another application which uses this device, the first application has its sound cut off.
2 more things to note:
- My preference for setup would be audio output through S/PDIF and input through USB, with the USB output disabled (To not waste system resources).
- I unmuted all channels in ALSA, however when I ran the test only 2 channels seemed to be working (Front L&R), it may have been defaulting to the USB connection, in which case, that explains only 2 channels being in use, is there a method of setting the S/PDIF as default system wide?

I can run both at the same time, however I cannot hear any audio. Do I somehow have to change the default device, if so how can I do that?

Interesting, apparently 2 audio streams are working, however the console thing still doesn't work..?

Flash only works when other audio is active, however it has constant popping sound. I went through the system logs to get the errors of when flash crashes, it's audio crashing it, here's the error:

We need to develop Multiple Application Loading. Is there any possibilities for this? We need make Base Frame using xCode, Inside the Xcode we need call the another xcode project application. Like calling from mail applicaiton sub application. We are welcome for suggestions and references?

Build the base (Main) application with Top Frame with Company Logo, Middle frame with loading sub application, in the bottom need to place sub application buttons, for example, B, C and D. If user touches B it will call another B sub application, it should load it in middle frame, once user done with the B application, they can touch C (application) it will call the another C Sub application, it should load it in middle frame. Meaning all our sub application can be load it in middle frame, still our base (Main) Application Remains as it is. All this sub applications are different xcode projects.
Is this will be possible to make it in Iphone Development? Please suggest with good solution.

If your question is whether you can run multiple instances of WebLogic
(or multiple applications) on one server, the answer is yes. The only
problem is, you must have a unique port for each of the servers to run
on. I.e., they can not all run under port 80 which has obvious
internet/network implications.
This also means you have multiple weblogic.properties files etc. for
each instance.
We do this with WL5.1 on a Linux 2.4 kernel in developement to allow
multiple developers run their own instance on one box.

Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. Since then I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and have been experiencing lots of beach balls, freezes, etc. They're so bad that I've had to forcibly shut down 3 times, and each time can't restart. Each time I've erased and done a clean install of Mountain Lion from a USB, then used migration assistant and time machine to bring files back. Just did this last night and am still getting tons of beach balls and freezes. Help please! Here's what Etresoft says.

Multiple Application Express Installs on one server
What, if any, restrictions / caveats are there for installing multiple Application Express versions on a single server? We have Application Express 2.2 installed and wondering if we can install Application Express 3.0 also.
With 2.2, we have FLOWS_020200, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER as database users. Version 3.0 will want to create FLOWS_030000, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER. Any problems with what I expect will be errors on "user already exists" for FLOWS_FILES and APEX_PUBLIC_USER?

I'm really sorry but this is a typo on my part. It should be "You can't have two different APEX versions on the same instance."
Does it mean that if we install ApEx v3 we will have only ApEx v3?Yes. This is exactly what it means. The installation script automatically detect previous installed APEX (or earlier HTML DB ) version, and upgrade it. You can end up with only one version per instance.

You can select multiple items using shift to select a range and control to add or remove items from it.
Regarding duplciates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.
