  • Unable to hear sound from music video (ipod touch)

    Hi all,
I have uploaded the video to ipod touch. But I could only watch the video and could not listen any sound from it. Please advise if I have to convert the file before I upload it.
    Thank you.

If Carolyn's advice does not achieve the desired result, try a PRAM reset:

You should try as Barbera Hall suggested. Then you should update your iPod(thats if you havent already)to version 1.1.1

  • Sound on the video in the ipod

Hi guys! Like most of the people that post here,i have a problem. To put video in my iPod i click "convert selection for iPod", and i synch my ipod after that. But the problem is that i have those video in my ipod but i can't hear the sound of the videos, even if i put it louder. So is there someone who can fix my problem?
    thx

    iTunes uses quicktime services.
Quicktime does not like muxed files(audio/video are one track).
So when you convert, iTunes/quicktime only sees the video track and converts it.
You will need to find a different piece of software to convert the files.
You can do a google search for video conversion software or just use this: http://www.squared5.com/

  • Grinding sound in refurbished 60 GB video iPod

I just got a refurbished video iPod, and in playback when I start the first song, or switch songs to a new album, I'm getting some minor grinding and whirring noise and vibration. It doesn't seem to happen when it switches between artists or albums in shuffle mode. And it doesn't happen once I'm playing consecutive songs on the same album. Should I be concerned? My fourth generation iPod never made a sound (except for music).

Personally i would be concerned. that is not normal.. I would send it back to apple and have them take a look at it.

This normally occurs when attempting to use QT/iTunes to convert a "muxed" video format to an iPod compatible format. Use an MPEG based third-party application like MPEG Streamclip (free) instead.

  • No sound on video Ipod after sync?

Every night I leave my video ipod plugged into my PC to sync up with my podcasts overnight. In the morning I just grab it and head out. Lately, maybe 1 out of every 3 times, there is no sound when I go to play anything on the ipod and I have to do a quick reset. I did recently update my Itunes software but I dont think that could have anything to do with it.

    Hi Phil,
Have you tried restoring your iPod to factory settings?
For instructions and info on how to restore an iPod in iTunes, see this:
Restoring Fifth Generation iPod (iPod with video)
Also, is your iPod's firmware updated to the latest (which, I believe, is 1.2.1)?

  • IPhone vs. Video iPod battery life & sound

For those that have used both, which will play video the longest - iPhone or Video iPod?
Also, which is loudest? I use the Video iPod on flights with noise cancelling earphones but find it is still not loud enough. Would the iPhone be louder in this case?
    Thanks,
    Brett

Patience my friend! And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Anyway, sounds like your connecting your iPod to your computer.
Does your iPod show up in iTunes? If so, eject the iPod from iTunes and the Do Not Disconnect screen should go away.

  • No sound when converting video to iPod compatible

When I right-click in video to 'convert selection for iPod' it converts it, but with no sound. My other videos in iTunes (6.0.3.5) play fine and with sound, but not the converted ones. What to do?

I have seen some advice on "muxing" but since I don't have a video ipod, haven't paid much attention.

  • Ipod classic sound but no video

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this, for it is becoming rather frustrating to deal with. I finally got a new universal dock for my new 160 gb ipod, along with a dynex a/v cord to hook up to my tv to watch various videos. I get everything hooked up, switch the video out to yes, and I get the sound, but no video. Does anyone know what is going on or what I am doing wrong (if anything)? To error on the side of simplicity, I will assume it is something on my end, but I want to make sure before I take the dynex a/v cord back. Oh, the a/v cord is composite, by the way, for that is the only connection I can use easily, without dismantling everything, but I would think that would work just fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Greg
ps. I have a feeling that since the a/v cable connects via the headphone jack, and since video is disables thru this, that may be the reason. Again, any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I just wrote this in response to another topic about the classic and the video out so I figured it might help here. Maybe if we all say enough about it apple will fix the issue so we can use our items. This is rediculous that it would not work with items that have already been purchased, even items purchased that apple resells in the store seem to have issues. Check out the article that I found and posted below.
I am having the same problem but with my philips dcp750 that I recently purchased. I was able to use it with my old 30gb iPod video but can not get it to work with new classic. The problem is that I can't switch the classics settings to turn the iPod's video out to on. I did some searching on the web and found out that with the new classic it seems apple has hidden from everyone that you can not use the video out anymore unless you use some type of special unlocking mechanisms that will be built in units. It may work with some items but it looks like apple does not want it to by default. Here is an article I found about it while doing some searching why it wouldn't work. Not sure if this is being rectified in a new firmware update or it is actually purposely done by apple. I hope they are going to fix this because I would not of purchased a new classic if I had known that it would not work with the items I have for it.

  • 30gig 5th generation video ipod and windows vista

i've been reading alot of posts putting vista down in reguards to the video ipod . i just wanted to say that i have window's vista home premium and my first video ipod
30gig and i've not had a single problem related to vista.
any problems have been to me never having owned an ipod .
just thought i'd set the record straight for those who are thinking of getting a video ipod and already have vista .
you know , just fyi .
but i am wondering , how well does the ipod record notes ?
and anyone here in a band and tape their rehearsals ? was wondering how it sounds . thanks all !

after I watched them they dissappeared from my ipod,
Sounds like you have selected to only sync unwatched video content to your iPod.
This is a setting that you can change in your iTunes preferences.

  • Video ipod wont add any more MP4 video files?

i have well over 23 GB left on my 30 GB video ipod and for some reason stupid itunes will not add the files to my movies setion of my library. I have the videos in my documents, and i click add file to library, that doesnt work, and when i double clcik the file so it will play in itunes, that doesnt work either! PLEASE help.

    Oh, my mistake!
The screen is leaving pixel lines? That sounds like a pretty well damaged iPod.
If restoring/updating hasn't worked, the best thing to do is to request service for your iPod. If it is under warranty, they will do it for free:

  • Problems with my new Video iPod

Hi, I just got a brand new black 30GB video iPod, so far it has been great. However, I've noticed a problem with the HD. Whenever the HD is spinning up and the iPod is moved you can hear the HD clunk. It also tends to make a odd whirring noise when I move the iPod around. If the iPod is moving around during startup (Apple logo appears) it will clunk and I will get the sad iPod icon. This doesn't seem right, this is exactly what my previous iPod did (20GB 4G) and that is why I got the new video iPod as a replacement. It just doesn't seem right for it to do this. Has anyone else noticed this before or do I just have bad luck with my iPod's? Secondly, I was considering buying the Apple USB power adapter. It is possible to buy a 3rd party charger for less money than what Apple wants? It's really stupid to not have a charger included on a device this expensive.
    Power Mac G5 SP 1.8 (Rev B.), iMac G3, iPod Video 30GB Black   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

The sad face icon usually means the hard drive is dead. If you're seeing it, it sounds like your hard drive is about to die. I'd exchange it or get it repaired. One thing I would do now too is to do the diagnostic on the iPod just to see if the hard drive is bad. Reset the iPod by pressing Menu and Center. Right when the Apple logo appears, quickly hold down Center and RW. Press Menu to do manual test, go to IO, go to HardDrive, and then to HDSmartData. If the hard drive is good, it gives values for retracts, reallocs, and some other numbers.
Third party USB power adapters should work fine, and yes I agree it is cheesy and cheap for Apple not to include one, which they used to when they were nicer.

  • My 30 GB video ipod plays video but they have no audio

i have a 30 gb video ipod and the videos i put on it do not play audio i have used the mpeg4 streamclip and it still doesnt work please help me

You can use itunes convert mov and mpg to mpeg-4. One thing though, is that if you convert an mpg (mpeg-1 or mpeg-2) muxed (muxed means that the video and audio are put together on one single track) than you loose the video or sound when converting them to mpeg-4 from itunes. If your videos are muxed you must find another video converter on the web. You can find out if the original video that you are trying to convert for the ipod is muxed by opening the original video in quicktime and then click on the Window menu then click on Show Movie Info this will show you if the file is muxed.
