No sound in photobooth or imovie!?

I just tried recording a video using photobooth and when i played it back the sound didn't work. It has definitely worked before and i tried it again and it didn't work so it's not random there must be something wrong with it. I looked online to see if anyone else had had this problem and most people said to see if imovie didn't work either and it won't record sound either, and i looked at sound in system preferences to see if the sound was off or something but it's not. My speakers do work though because playing music on itunes works. It's reallllllllllllllly frustrating so if any-one knows how i can fix this then that would be greatly appreciated.

A few suggestions:
Repair permissions & restart.
Check your settings in the Audio Midi app which is located in the Utilities folder.

Trick/Tip: Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.

  • Mono Sound after opening an iMovie HD-Project in FC Express HD

I captured HD-Material in iMovie. There it works in stereo. Now i just got mono sound after opening my iMovie HD-Project in FC Express HD. If i play the timeline, the sound of my HD-Clips is mono, all track-settings seamed to be on default mode. If i click one of the clips in the browser-window, i can see and hear the clip in the viewer in stereo. So the clip-material must be okay. Rendering the movie clips and audio clips in the timeline doesn't work. Connecting the clips with the original bin, doesn't work too.
I need help! Could you help me?
    PowerPC G5, Dual 1.8 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

That's not right. Stereo here means the same sound split between two channels. When you open it into the viewer you see two audio waveforms in one display. They can be different, but they don't have to be. Dual mono means you have two separate tracks with different sound coming out of each speaker. In dual mono you have two separate tabs, one for each track, each of which can be controlled separately and have separate audio. That's the default capture condition for FCE. If you have separate tracks of audio in iMovie, two mono tracks attached to the video, they may not be preserved when they come into FCE. Do your clips have two separate, mono tracks of audio in iMovie? What happens to the clip when you open it from the browser into the viewer? Is it two mono tracks, or a stereo pair?

  • How to transfer movie clip made in PhotoBooth to IMovie

    Hi,
Here is my problem, which I can't believe I have, or can't solve.
I used Photobooth and was able to produce a technically proficient two-minute piece of video.
I have an Intel Macbook with Leopard and plenty of memory.
Mac is always so intuitive that I'm shocked that I could not transfer this two-minute Photobooth to IMovie. This has to be incredibly easy.
First, it was impossible to drag the icon for the movie from PhoneBooth to the IMovie screenboard, which I can easily to with other video formats, downloaded from Internet or test Quicktime.
IMovie has a drop down to import movies from cameras and other sources, but where are the PhoneBooth movies stored? The PhoneBooth application icon did not ignite with light to show it was active. IMovie couldn't open Photobooth. How can I import from Photobooth to IMovie, or drag and drop from Photobooth to IMovie, or must I shoot it live with Isight?
    Thanks.

First, it was impossible to drag the icon for the movie from PhoneBooth to the IMovie screenboard, which I can easily to with other video formats, downloaded from Internet or test Quicktime.
If you wish to "drop-import" directly to iMovie '08 from Photo Booth, then drag the movie icon below the main preview screen and drop it to a named_Event in the iMovie '08.
IMovie has a drop down to import movies from cameras and other sources, but where are the PhoneBooth movies stored?
Photo Booth movies are, by default, stored in the user's "Picture > Photo Booth" folder. Or, if desired, you can press the "iPhoto" icon in Photo Booth to move a copy of the currently selected Photo Booth movie to iPhoto where, once you close and reopen iMovie '08, the then properly thumbnailed iPhoto copy of the movie will become available in the iPhoto area of iMovie '08's Event Library list.
How can I import from Photobooth to IMovie, or drag and drop from Photobooth to IMovie, or must I shoot it live with Isight?
    See above, see above, no.

I imported a movie from PhotoBooth to IMovie. I want to put the movie on my blog. To do that I have to select Share >Media Browser, but it is not highlighted in IMovie. What should I do?

Is the clip only in your Event Library in iMovie?
You need to create a Project (File > New Project).
Then move the clip into the project, do any edits and you should be able to Share your Project to Media Browser.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and iLife '11 causes sound problems in iTunes, iMovie, and Mail

After updating my OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and installing iLife '11, the sound in iTunes, iMovie, and Mail does not work.  The sound in other programs like Skype does work, though. Any ideas?

You should run software update. The current version os SL is 10.6.8, several bugs were squashed and improvements made.

  • I get no sound from mp4 in imovie 10

I am trying to import an mp4 file (sourced from a Go Pro) in to iMovie 10. The file does not play any sound in IMovie. It does play sound in every other video app I have (Quicktime etc).
I have googled around looking for fixes but cant find anything that will work. It would appear that iMovie 10 cannot deal with MP4....surely that cant be true ?

    1. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    2. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • How do you add more sound effects to the iMovie library

    hola
i was already suggested to use http://www.freesound.org/ but it dosent show up in imovie so if you know hoe to fix that that woud also be very helpful.  i would prefer that the new sounds be free but i would consider a small fee.
thanks you to who ever replies:)

    1. You can drag the audio clip directly into your project from the Finder.
    2. Also, you can import your audio clip into iTunes and open the Media Browser in iMovie to iTunes.
    3. Use the Import window.

  • Sound import problem into iMovie through sound jack.

I am attempting to transfer sound into iMovie from an external audio tape recorder through the sound import port on a Power Mac G4 mirror door tower running Tiger. When I do this the sound ends up in the time line viewer and looks normal but when I attempt to play it, the volume is very low. It is so low you cannot even make out what it is. Another clip in the time line from another source plays at the normal volume. I also raised the gain on the imported clip to the highest level and still it was very low.
To record the audio above I did the following:
Clicked Media, and then clicked the Audio button at the top of the Media pane.
Clicked the Record button. The recorder was playing the sound and plugged into the audio input jack of the G4.
Is this the correct way to do this? If no what do I do?
    Help Please
    Thanks much!

For a more reliable way to get sound into a Mac, it's worth getting a USB input device (..I use one of these Hercules Muse things, which looks like a giant doorknob)..
..but there are others like the "iVoice" and "iMic".
You can plug in virtually any audio input (..line level or mic level, so there's no impedance-matching problem..) and the audio always enters the Mac at optimum level ..you simply have to choose the USB device as the source of the incoming audio in the System Preferences>Sound pane.

  • Why don't I get any sound when export from imovie to quicktime DVD

Help. I am a new imovie user so hope not being stupid. am using G4 powerbook with OS X 10.3.9. imovie 3.0.3 and quick time 7.1.2. Have made 2 films so far - first exported fine into quicktime with sound. Second exports but without any sound. This film is 5 mins long. It plays fine in imovie, and if exported as low quality for web also records sound (when 188 kg), but big version for DVD gives the problem. thanks for any advice. Sue

    Hi Sue: (Nice name)
    Welcome to discussions!
It may be that your quicktime is not getting along well with you OS X version...try to revert back to another version of quicktime (BUT- I don't know if this will work with your current QuickTime though)

  • Problem with the sound when exporting from imovie

I made a movie in imovie 09. I added music as backgroud and faded the original sounds of the movie to 0%. Everything looks and sounds good when I play the movie in imovie. However when I export the movie (because I want to burn it on a disk) the original sounds/noise comes back in some parts of the movie. How is this possible? I export the movie to Quicktime and to iDVD and it gives the same problem. Does anyone knows a sollution?

I have just found out that the correct word for "drawing area" is "artboard" in the English language Illustrator version. I use a German language Illustrator, so I'm sorry for misunderstandings concerning this term.
I have made an Illustrator file that should demonstrate the problem but was not able to find the correct place for bugs in the Production suite at the issue tracker. Would be "Project Nile" the place to put the bug at?

  • No sound when exporting from imovie 3,03

After having read most of the posts related to sound troubles, I still can't figure out why I can't get any sound when I export from imovie 3,03.
I almost know the entire dan slagle site, and checked every button to play with, I've tried many export or preferences settings (including various depths or rates) but got no result at all.
Surprisingly, when I grab the .mov file to some converters (ffmpegx), the expected audio part looks to be there, but remains silent (for me, meaning all of the bits at 0).

i just downgraded QT 7.x to 6.5.2 and it worked fine at last.

  • Problems with sound clips after conv. iMovie project via mediabrow. to iDVD

I have made a 30 min long project with 80 small video clips. The project is alright when viewing it in iMovie, but after I have prepared via the mediabrowser and thenaften view the project in iDVD - every other sound clips is without sound and on some video clips it mixes some soundtracks from other tracks into it. Any ideas, I'm getting very frustrated
    Thanks in advance

I'm having the same problem. Everything plays beautifully in Imovie and then when its shared with idvd or media browser it all goes weird. I get sound from footage that I either haven't used at all or audio that I have detached and deleted playing over the top of other bits, or sound going out of sync.
All my video footage was shot with 12 bit audio. For most of the footage that I've used, I've detached and deleted the original audio and put other tracks over the top, the footage that still has it's original audio, I've converted so it has 16 bit audio. I hoped that would solve the problem but my newest version of the video seems to be worse than before.
Everything plays fine in imovie and then warps when it's shared.
Any ideas would be greatly received as I am going crazy and wasting a heck of a lot of time that I don't really have!!!

  • Why can't I import sound with video into iMovie from digital camera?

This is disturbing. I have a digital video camera that took great video + sound. I import into iMovie (using my DV cable that came with the camera) and get video but no sound.
Now, in the past the sound came in, but no longer. Any and all advise is requested. I have to make number videos of lectures starting Wednesday evening and have to be able to provide video with audio.
    Thanks.

Try importing video shot with the camera's internal
microphone. If that doesn't work either, the mic is
    not the problem.
I have no problem importing sound with video when using the internal video camera mic. No problem (other than sound quality issues with the speaker being 40 feet away from the camera's internal mic!
But I can play back the video made with the external mic in the camera and the sound is stunningly clear, crisp and loud. It's just a matter of getting it out of the camera into my Mac. I don't think it's the microphone; it must be the computer.
I just find it sad to believe that Apple's software is so limited--even in Final Cut Express HD.

  • ISight positioning different between PhotoBooth and iMovie

Hi there, I just came to notice that the positioning of the camera when using PhotoBooth is pretty much a straight perfect view. When using iMovie to capture a video, the view is switched to the opposite side and the positioning isn't as straight as the view when captured from PhotoBooth. If anyone has any insights to this it would be great! Many thanks.
