No Sound in Project with Imported MPEG 4

I am new to iDVD.
My first project is to just make a video from a short MPEG 4 movie clip.
I imported the movie into iDVD and dropped it in. It plays fine except there is NO sound.
When I press the select button in the on screen remote it plays the clip with sound.
Any help appreciated.

... fine, you found a workaround ...
the iLife package is a ... ehm... package, a suite of tools, which are intended to work together... therefore, iM is meant to work with firewire connected miniDV (=no mepgs), iDVD is meant to work with output of this app (=dv) ... and so on...-
they are NOT meant as "all-purposes"-app... as many PCuser like to use Word for layouts, Excel for painting, PowerPoint for moviemaking... nooo, in the Apple World simplicity&convience is accomplished by restrictions of the app ..
in other words: you try to teach the old dog new tricks... means: could work, could not work..
and as mentioned above: video codecs is a VERY complicated issues.. there're ~4000 codecs swirrling thru the web...
if you use the iApps as intended, no double-import etc are needed...
think about investing into tools as QTpro or VisualHub (http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/), which are "converters".. iDVD expects "dv-streams"... THEN it works like charm...
happy editing, encoding, converting ...

  • Problems with sound sync for HDV import (MPEG file)

I've imported a one hour tape from my Sony HDR-HC3 (HDV import), and within a few minutes the sound and video get out of sync when I play it.  I have elements v4 and also tried version 8 (trial) which was better but still a second out of sync vs 4-5 seconds for v4.  The imported files for both versions both play perfectly in Windows Media player with no sync problems.
I'm running on Windows 7 64 bit with 4GB ram and a 4 core AMD processor which isn't struggling.  In searching the web I've seen some old workaround solutions for similar problems which involved deinstalling quicktime, installing streamclip and a quicktime alternative and then converting the files imported by Elements.  I am hoping there is a more straightforward solution within Elements which avoids having to go through this workaround.
Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
    Thanks
    Andrew

Thanks for the pointer Neale.  I tried converting the file with Streamclip (quite slow - about 1/3 play speed) and noticed there were some errors reported near the beginning.  I reimported the HDV into Premiere Elements 4 but this time in a number of smaller sections.  I think it may have been related to those errors because when I cut to a later section the sound was in back in sync where it previously had been out of sync. This seems to have solved it for me.  If I get some time to have a play with the converting solution I'll post the results back here, but for now I can catch up with the video editing which has fallen behind a bit.
    Thanks again.

Hi, I'm working in a project where all the material was recorded in XDCam Ex HQ (1920x1080 50i 35vbr)
And when i'm editing all is nice but when i want to export my sequence to an mp4 (xdcam format) using the mainconcept plugin strange things happens
For example if a use a video effect like a video scale in the preview is all ok, but when i export to an mp4 the effect begin before and add a little zoom between frames (before and after the video effect).
I think is something with the long gop, but i'don know.
And i have another problem when i try to export to mp4 (xdcam format) sometimes i can export and sometimes i can't.
When i'cant i have to reboot my computer and maybe after that i can export the sequence.
    Someone have any idea.

  • I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • Only sound, when I export HDV project with Quicktime

I'm working with Final Cut Pro 5.0 (yes I know I have to upgrade) with material from HV 20.
When I export my finished project with the export to Quicktime opt. I can't watch the movie in Quicktime player, Itunes, VLC or MPEG Streamclip, only in FCP. The Sound is there but know picture.
since I do not yet have DVD Studio I know have a problem, since I cannot make a DVD out of it.
Or can I? Why is there no picture? How can I do it the best?
I also tried exporting it through compressor to H.264 and quicktime. That as well didn't work.
    Grateful for help!!!
    /David

Make sure that you have the current HDV codec present in your /Library/Quicktime folder. If you don't have the codec you will sound but no picture. The codec is automatically installed when installing FCS--but interestingly I had to manually install it from the FCS install packages using Pacifist when I upgraded to Leopard (on my PPC machine, the Intel one was OK).
Unfortunately Apple does not make the codecs available for download--which makes no sense. If you want to pass an HDV movie over to another machine you must manually install the Apple HDV Quicktime codec. I don't even know if Apple considers this some sort of violation of their License.

  • Not able to edit JCA Adapter, with import "SOA ARCHIVE INTO SOA PROJECT"

    Hi
i took one of my project composite from server EM and i exported it with option "with all changes after deployemnt"
and once i import that SOA Project, with option SOA ARCHIEVE INTO SOA PROJECT, im not able to edit any of the JCA adapter inside the project.
I have tried by restarting my jdev
    Please someone help me
    Thanks in advance
    Sujan

    Hi,
I've never used that option, but I know that is normally used to do customization... If you have "import for customization" checked, it will only let you edit what's been set to customizable...
    Hope this helps...
    Cheers,

  • Can't import project with same name as previously deleted project

I had a project in Flash Builder that I needed to update; the old version was a Flash Professional project using an FLA, but the new version uses XFL and a different folder structure. I right clicked on the old project in Flash Builder and selected "Delete" then chose the "Do not delete contents" option. I then renamed the project folder and put the new version of the project, with the same folder name, in the same location.
Flash Builder will not let me import the new version of the project. It will take me through the import wizard but when it completes nothing shows up in Flash Builder. Almost seems like there is a "permanently ignore projects with this name forever" flag hidden somewhere, although I'd hope FB wasn't that inflexible. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Eclipse has severe problems with case sensitivity in project names, and will silently crash if the name of a project changes in case. Apparently even if you delete the project and recreate it. So I had to change the capitalization to match the previous version.

  • Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Absolutely.  Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  Make sure you check the Self-Contained box.  The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added.  Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

  • Rendering issues with imported Motion project in FCP

I have various titles for a DVD prepared in Motion that are imported as project files into Final Cut Pro.
When playing back the rendered timeline in FCP to a TV, the animation on these titles (scaling and moving of text and untextured, 100% opaque rectangles) looks fine. When I render the timeline to a QuickTime (DV PAL) they still look fine on a monitor, though obviously not a great test on a progressive display.
After using Compressor (and a suitable preset for PAL content) and burning to a disc from DVD Studio Pro, the animation is jumpy. Some elements in the project with a Fade In/Fade Out behaviour with Fade Out duration set to 0 suddenly disappear for a short period (looks like one frame) - these objects end on the timeline in the same frame that their Fade In/Fade Out behaviour also ends.
If I render the Motion project to a QuickTime file with transparency and overlay that in FCP then follow the same route through Compressor and DVD Studio Pro everything looks as I expected... smooth motion and no disappearing elements.
Any ideas? Should I just keep rendering Motion projects out to separate files to overlay in FCP? That seems a bit of a waste of the integration between FCP and Motion.

    This gives me pause: AEManager::scanForPluginsInDirectory(PCString) + 1011
I'd check for any third party plugins...

  • Import FrameMaker info new RoboHelp project with extendscript

    Hi,
I have done the following in robohelp 11 from Adobe Technical Communication Suite 5
    1) select file|new|project
    2) select import tab
    3) Select the FrameMaker Documents option icon
This works quit well. I get a new RoboHelp project.
I would like to do the same via a RoboHelp extendScript but I can't get it to work.
Does anyone have some hints or good exampels to be inspired from?
    Thanks
    Alex

It does depend on how fancy you want to make it. Creating a GUI with
file picker is quite a bit of work.
But if you only want a script to create a new project and import an FM
book, that's not too hard. For example:
    RoboHelp.newProject('', 'MyProject', 'C:\temp\rh\scriptproject',
    'MyProjectTitle',);
    RoboHelp.project.importFrameMakerDoc('D:\FM\FMBook.bk','FMFolderinRH','D:\FM\FMBookTOC.fm' ,'RHTOCName',true,'RHIndexName','RHGlossary');
    (Untested)
Run RH via command line with the script name as parameter: robohtml.exe
    -x script.jsx
There is not much information on ExtendScript in RoboHelp. You can find
two introductory articles in the RoboHelp Developer Center to get you
    started: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp.html
If you want to do something more advanced, I have a free RH library for
extendscript to make working with scripts easier. It includes functions
as reading/writing files, setting context sensitivity, saving settings
    and more. See
    http://www.wvanweelden.eu/product/robohelp-extendscript-library
    Kind regards,

  • Importing MPEG-2 With iMovie - JVC Everio

    I have two problems.
    1. I cannot watch or edit my camcorder videos, which are mpeg-2 files with a .MOD attached to the end of the file. How do I watch these successfully? Should I download the codec for Quicktime despite the horrible reviews?
    2. How do I edit them with imovie without losing alot of quality? I've found converters but when I convert to a mp4, I lose a lot of the quality. Help!

I have been converting them to the highest quality that my program, VisualHub, will let me, which includes the H.264, but I am still noticing a very significant reduction in quality.
I assume here that you are referring to a difference in quality between the original MPEG2 video and the intermediate H.264 file and not between your original file and any final output from iMovie '08. (I.e. you are referring to the output from Visual Hub?) If so, then what are the specs for the file so I have some idea as to what I would normally expect in the way of quality?
I decide to do a quick test on this end also and post the results so you could see what I consider "expected quality" levels for the settings I proposed. Basically, I demuxed a VOB source file to elementary M2V and AIFF files and combined these streams of data with an AIC/AIFF conversion of the original VOB and placed them in an MOV file container with the AIC video display offset so the two video tracks can be compared side-by-side either during playback or by manually stepping through the individual frames. Frankly, I don't really see any difference between the two. Unfortunately, I forgot that you don't have QT MPEG2 component to view the results and this "combination format" file can't be viewed by players like VLC (no valid FourCC), MPEG Streamclip (only displays the MPEG half), etc.
However, since I went to the trouble of crating and uploading the comparison, I will go ahead ahead an post the URL which can be played directly in the QT Player by those having the appropriate codecs. Just be advise that there is no "Quick Start" for this file and it takes several minutes to download into the player even with a high-speed internet connection.
    http://homepage.mac.com/jrwalker4/.Public/MPEGAICComp.mov
    Should I use another program?
My personal preference would be MPEG Streamclip, but there are others who are very satisfied with Visual Hub. So it is really up to you.
Will paying for the Quicktime MPEG-2 codec help?
I consider it an essential tool for working with both MPEG Streamclip and QT Pro but if you don't use either, then I see no need to buy it.
How about upgrading to Quicktime Pro?
There are many things you can do with QT Pro that simply cannot be done or cannot be done as easily in other applications. It will not help you to convert "muxed" MPEG2 files and preserve the audio but does support M2V files with supported audio. Since I don't know what you routinely do, it is difficult to advise you here. For me QT Pro and the QT MPEG2 component are required on almost a daily basis.

  • Tempo problems with imported wav files

Hey everyone, sorry if there's a quick fix for this in the forums that I couldn't find, but I've been having some tempo problems with imported .wav files.
Long story short, my system couldn't handle playing all the tracks for a song while recording drums, so I bounced out an mp3 of the song and put it in a new Logic file so my drummer could just play along to that as I recorded him. Unfortunately, the original song is at 167 bpm, but I forgot to change the bpm in the new Logic file with the .mp3 file of the song to 167 bpm, so it was left at the default 120 bpm.
So, the drums were recorded at the correct 167 bpm, but Logic thinks that those new drum .wav files should be played at 120 bpm, so when I import my drum tracks back into the original file, they do not play correctly at all.
I could get record it all again, but I wanted to check if there was a way I could salvage what I already have, since my drummer lives about an hour away right now and can't just come over whenever he wants.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

    Hi,
First, do not use MP3 in Logic, the sound quality is less than AIFF, WAV or CAF, and Logic has to decode it for playback, making it a heavier burden on the CPU than an uncoded audiofile, such as AIFF, WAV or CAF.
Secondly, audio files are independent of Logic's tempo. If you bounce down an audio file in any format (other than Apple Loop), it will play back at the same speed, +regardless of Logics' tempo setting+, either at recording or playback. Logic doesn't 'think' anything. The BPM is only important to MIDI tracks, or to the spacing between audio files. The audio files themselves *are not affected* by the tempo setting. If you import an audio file of tempo 167 into a 120 BPM project, the file will still play at 167, only Logic will indicate the wrong bar positions.
    regards, Erik.

  • Imported mpeg videos change resolution.

I am importing mpeg videos to the project on PP 7.2.1 (4) under Windows 7 and they seem to change resolution and aspect ratio. Not sure if there is a setting that can be changed to override the aspect ratio and resolution when importing videos to the project ? Otherwise the video plays fine despite looking a little bit strange with this new aspect ratio of 1.1851.
The original video stream is (according to mediainfo):
    Format                                   : MPEG Video
    Format version                           : Version 2
    Format profile                           : Main@Main
    Format settings, BVOP                    : Yes
    Format settings, Matrix                  : Custom
    Format settings, GOP                     : M=3, N=15
    Duration                                 : 44s 478ms
    Bit rate mode                            : Variable
    Bit rate                                 : 9 071 Kbps
    Maximum bit rate                         : 8 900 Kbps
    Width                                    : 720 pixels
    Height                                   : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
    Frame rate                               : 29.970 fps
    Standard                                 : NTSC
After importing it to the project the properties are:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
Does anybody know if this can be corrected somehow?
    Thank you

Thank you - I went through the tutorials and I think I am running into a different issue (at least this is how ti looks).
The original video when opened in source monitor (before importing it into the project) shows properties of:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 540 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
and this is before importing it to the project just opening it in the monitor. Not sure what to think of it the video shows everywhere as 720*460 (16:9), when I click properties in windows in various media players and in MediaInfo but for some reason PP sees it as 540*480 (1:1851).
    Thank you
