No sound in QT 7.1.3....again!

I had to get rid of QT 7.1.2 and go back to 7.1.1 last time because I lost all sound in QuickTime when I installed it. After hesitating initially I figured they'd probably fixed the problem and updated to 7.1.3.
Nup! Sound is gone again. Doesn't work no matter what sound device i set (even built in).
So am I missing a necessary plug-in or something that 7.1.3 hasn't installed? Can anyone help me?
I guess I can roll-back to 7.1.1 again but there's several bugs in it that I was hoping would be fixed in this latest version.

My problem is similar but not the same: when I import a video taken with my digital camera, it plays with audio in iPhoto just fine. I can export it to the Desktop and play it--and both video and audio play just fine. If I bring it into iMovie, the audio is lost.
Your description would tend to indicate these files are saved in an MPEG-1 or one of the newer enhanced MPEG-1 formats. The import or dropping of files into iMove automatically invokes a conversion of the file format to DV -- the basic SD format in which iMovie works natively. (Conversion by iTunes and/or QT Pro would also loose your audio.) In the cae of iPhoto export, the file is merely exported in its source format which is "plyback only" supported by any appliations using QT. Don't use iWeb for movies but I believe it performs a conversion to either MPEG-4/AAC or the H.264/AAC format as part of the "upload" process to any on-line server account..
Best solution is to convert your "desktop" files using a third-party MPEG based application. If you plan to work in iMovie, would recommend the free MPEG Streamclip application for creating either iMovie compatible DV files or iPod compatible files which retain their audio content. In addition, there are any number of free iPod specific conversion applications (e.g., iSquint) and free general purpose conversion applications (e.g., ffmpefX) available online.

    OK I  Kept on getting sound cards errors, and nobody counld spot the problem, well , I found the problem that was casing those errors. I Was turning off a start up program in msconfig, and saw WindowAudio box was unchecked.(I did never touch that), I checked it , rebooted and the sound erros stoped! So now the mp3 or cd plays but I HEAR no sound form the sperakers, I have a 2.1 speaker setup, and its is configed like that in the sound manger, also the sound is put to the max in the control pannel, and everything is set on Ac 97 as default, and I also have it enabled in the bios.
    Just to make sure that I am pluggin in the speakers correctly, I pluged it in every audio jack, I got no audio at all. Any ideas?

    Are you using the 'sound effect' icon in the sys tray to set it up, use the test feature there to try various setups.
    Are your speakers powered up from the adaptor?

  • Edit to tape audio promlem - sounds like "chorus" effect

    I have tried to Edit to Tape an HDV Sequence, down converted to SD, to a Digibeta deck.
    When I monitor (headphone out of digibeta deck) while recording it sounds normal. When I rewind and check tape it sounds like the audio is "doubled up", almost like a very short chorus effect is on the audio. as well as this I can hear what sounds like tape crackle now and again.
    However - when I do a straight crash record from the timeline - the audio plays back fine, no crackle.
    So thinking it was an edit to tape settings problem i clicked on the audio button in the edit to tape window and notice audio was set to ALL ON. I changed this to A1 and A2 on, thinking that my extra audio tracks (which I had disabled, these where the original audio, not the OMF exported stereo mix) were somehow going down the SDI anyway...
    No luck - did the edit to tape again and still sounded the same.
    My heart rate has returned to normal now as the network kindly will accept the crash record with non standard timecode - but I of course still want to find out the problem so this doesn't happen again next week....
    The Sequence was HDV 1080i, via a Decklink HD Extreme Capture Card, set to down convert to anamorphic 16:9. Sony Digibeta DVW-A500P deck.
    Anyone know what the problem could be?

    for the benefit of anyone who searches for forum for a similar problem - it appears to have been a sync issue. changing "out ref" to "input video" appears to have fixed it.

  • Sound does not work correctly all the time, on youtube.

    So I have been having this issue for a while now, and I have tried everything to fix it on my own.
    My issue is sometimes you-tube videos will play about 1-2 sec of sound then stop, the video will buff all the way out and I can watch it but no sound will come from it. Once it happens if I try to watch another video they will all have no sound, but if i start up itunes it will still play music, so it's not my PC.
    Once I close Firefox and reopen it 80% of the time it will play sound on the same video, the other 20% of times it will play 1-2secoinds of sound again and quit playing sound, if I restart fire fox again it will play just fine. Also I do not seem to get this issue with internet explore.
    Stuff I have done.
    Check for updates for my video/sound cards.
    Uninstalled/installed flash 3 times even downloads the Adobe Flash player uninstaller, then reinstalled flash again.
    Unchecked enable hardware acceleration, in the Adobe Flash setting.
    My setup
    Firefox 3.6.13
    Windows 7 64bit
    ATI HD radeon HD 4350 video card.
    I have my PC connected to my TV, sound/video is carried with a HDMI cable from my video card.

    Did you check the settings for Firefox in the Volume Mixer?

  • I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13 with no restore disk; it has OS 10.8.4 I believe there is something wrong with the OS due to I can not install flash player to view Youtube videos and the when we plug in a Bose headset the sound out will work sometimes

    When trying to view some youtube videos; a window would pop up saying "it needs adobe flash player is required for video play back get the latest flash player" but after downloading the file and during installation would have errors and will not installed.....tried to reboot and install again.....but still the same.
    The othe thing I had noticed is when using a good Bose headset with mic the sound output would noticed the headset and then switch from headset to Internal speekers and headset.....thinking that there might be something wrong with the plug in port of the computer or the headset.....the headset works with no issues on my iPad so there must be something wrong with the computer.....tried to move the plugin around the port but no change....while the headset is plug in can hear a short clicking noise and the sound would get lost and back again......but with nothing plugin to the port there is no issue with the sound or mic.

    The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
    Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
    However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
    Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
    I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Sound Blaster card won't install driv

    I bought an old sound blaster li've! 5. sound card about 4 years ago and used it on my old system. Everything worked great and continued to work great till the very end. Just last week, I built a new system and I wanted to use my old li've! 5. sc, but my new computer is having a lot difficulties making it work.
    When I first tried using the old installation CD that originally came with it, it just stops installing at 2%. So I Control+Alt+delete to close the installation process, but it already created a folder on my start menu with some incomplete programs.
    Then I decided to install the drivers via downloading them. Unfortunately, that didn't work because my computer says it doesn't detect a sound card.
    I tried moving it onto a different PCI slot, and when windows booted up, the "found new hardware" window popped up and I think I was able to install the driver from the CD. I was able to hear sound from the speakers, but only from the front 2.
    Even though there was sound, my computer still can't recognize my sound card. When I tried again to install the mixer and other programs, it still freezes at 2%. When I go to the 'sound and audio devices' menu, I see that it's using Emu0Kx Audio [D000] to play the sound.
    What's the reason why I can't install anything and why my computer refuses to recognize my sound card? If possible, I'd very much like to salvage what's left of this card.

    Ive installed vista64 since i did a major upgrade along with my X-FI Gamer Fatality Soundcard, i always thought it dont sound great at all.
    Ive just figured out why, in the sound options of the control panel where you can select the quality of sound always select 48hz studio quality dont go for the 96hz studio quality.
    Do this in all the sound settings for each device and then tailor it to 5. or stereo which every you prefer, then goto the creative console and match it eg 5., stereo etc.
    If needed test the channels and see how nice it sounds. as you will notice so long as you have a decent setup it will sound more fuller in apps and games.
    I was using 96hz studio quality and always thought why it sounded so flat but as soon as i changed it to 48hz studio quality its sounding like i was using XP again, wmp sounds really good, full 5.ch and so are my games.
    You can say now im totally satisfied with vista 64/32, sounds great and it plays all my games really well. Anyways i hope this helps all you out there, let us know how you get on.

    I have a Verizon iPhone 4s recently upgraded to iOS 7.  I'm an IT engineer who's on call and started a new job last week with a company that doesn't provide company phones like a blackberry.  So now I get tons of company email alerts, text messages, and phone calls both private and for work.  I always have my phone switched to vibrate to filter out the noise of generic emails/texts/phone calls, but I also need to be able to configure specific emails sent from our network monitoring servers, text messages from my teammates and alerting devices, as well as phone calls from our internal tech support to be sent with sound.  Ideally I also need to be able to configure alert options in an "On-call" profile I can switch on so that I can configure alert repeats and the most annoying noise I can find so I don't sleep through network pages..  But I still want to be able to keep the default vibrate for everyone else and everything else.. How do I create a custom sound/vibration profile per app, SMS text, phone, or email contact?  In blackberry's, you can easily create different profiles to switch back/forth and configure each app/text/phone option to either a sound option or vibrate.  iPhone seems to be all vibrate or all sound, with little to no options to mix/match the two..  If Apple ever hopes to truly capture the enterprise market blackberry has, this is the most standard and essential feature on blackberries for IT professionals..  If I have to buy a third-party app for this, so be it.  But I've been searching for hours and found nothing that creates customized sound/vibrate profiles for iPhone like this (minus jailbreaking your phone, but I shouldn't have to jailbreak a $699 "smartphone" for simple sound/vibrate/alert options like this..).

    As far as I can tell with my iphone what you want to do is not possible. There are sites that tell you how  to make different ringtones for the device but your choices to change  sounds for email and text/sms messages are controlled unders sounds in the setting menu.  Again the manual is on your phone and online if you need assistance changing sounds and ringtones.

  • Text message vibrate instead of alert sound

    i am in a text message conversation screen (as opposed to the main message screen that lists my messages), and my phone ringer is on with vibrate activated. however when i receive a text message within the conversation, it only vibrates with no sound alert. is this normal?

    Even just going back to the list of converstatoins (button in top left) you will not get alert sound while in the App.  Again, it assumes you are looking at it and seeing the indicators pop up for number of messages etc for each conversation.
    You have to be out of the app for it to give a sound. 
    If you are not expecting a msg right away then why stay in it?  Press home and go back to home screen and wait.

    I understand that it is a IRQ collision problem, and IRQPOLL does fix the problem (but as we know, renders the computer useless after a while), but I have yet to find a fix for this on the internet. I have searched for days and weeks without finding a solution. Any help would be much appreciated as this totaly screws my experience with Arch. I love the system, but no sound is no good.
    Also, I am wondering if disabling usb support will at least let me use sound with out any trouble.
    Again, my gratitude would be endless if someone can tell me more about the problem. Is it a known one?

    Absolutely. A single 5400 disk when the minimum suggested is three 7200 disks. And for AVCHD the CPU is below bare minimum as well, maybe not even that.

  • Problem with Sound.position

    I find that Sound.position does not reset to 0 when using
    Sound.loadSound(). It seems to continue with the last value. If a
    loaded sound is stopped at position 500. Starting the sound again
    plays the sound from 0 but position starts at 500?
    I have worked around this by making a new sound object when a
    loadedSound is stopped. Is there a better solution?

    This is not an intermittent problem. This is how the Sound
    object works. I'm using Flash 8. It worked this way under Flash 7
    also.
    Try it for yourself. Follow these steps:
    1) Make a new text field to display the position. Then make
    two buttons one to play and one to stop the sound.
    2) Make a Sound object
    3) Add an onEnterFrame function to the main timeline that
    puts the position of the sound in the field
    4) Set up the first button to call loadSound. Set up the
    second button to stop the sound.
    Test your movie. Click the first button, the sound starts to
    play and you will see the value of position in your text field.
    Click the second button. The sound stops and the field still
    shows the current value of position.
    Note this says that position doesn't get set to 0 when you
    stop your sound.
    Next click the first button to play your sound. Clicking this
    calls loadSound again which starts the audio from the beginning.
    But, the position displayed in the field doesn't start form 0. It
    continues from where it was last. If the sound gets to the end. The
    value stops increasing but the sound continues to play?

  • Firefox getting error loading sound from server

    I'm using the following code to load some 30 sec soundbytes
    from a server. Safari works without error most of the time. When it
    fails it gives me a "webKiterrorDomain" message.
    Firefox just won't load anything ever.
    None of the 10 soundbytes refuse to load all the time with
    Safari. And the order in which I click on them doesn't seem to
    matter. Any at random will probably will load but 20% chance it
    might not.

    This is what I tried at the very first. It didn't work well
    so I tried the totalBytes / getBytes thing which seemed to work
    better. Then, because it didn't always work, I thought that perhaps
    there were times when the total bytes didn't exactly equal what was
    downloaded (can this be true?). So I gave it a range of error of 10
    bytes by using the Math.abs() difference between the two. This
    worked okay but still not always. Currently, the first click, after
    clearing the cache in Firefox, usually doesn't play the sound.
    Clicking the same mc again usually does play the sound. Sometimes
    if I click sound "A" (doesn't work) then I click sound "B" (doesn't
    work), then I click "A" again it works. Sometimes clicking "A"
    twice (works) then click "B" once (works). Other sounds might work
    on the first try but often the first click on an mc after a cache
    empty will fail.

    earlier I found that this sometimes never got to be true. I
    found this complaint elsewhere on the Internet.
    Is this a Flash bug or browser bug? Safari is inconsistent as

  • HTWS1G/XAA sound stick turns sound on then off.

    My HTWS1G/XAA  sound stick that will no longer work properly. I turn the sound stick on I get a few seconds of sound then it turns itself off again. No sound.
    Sound stick will turn on with no sound input from TV. But as soon as I turn on sound from TV the sound stick will play sound for a few seconds and then turn itself off again.

    give it a search, sometimes you have to look for a day or two, but you will find one. Also do a search on google. You can find them at parts houses like ifixipodsfast.com for 120 for a 30 and 165 for a 60 gig. But do some searches and go here for the tutorial on how to change it.     I have had my video apart twice and two of my friends for screen and battery replacement. I have had the hard drives out and can testify that it is really not that hard. Just be careful with the ribbon cables.

    Hi. I have an iMac with 2,66GHz Intel Core i5 processor and from somedays a siren sound is play randomly theough speakers (it desapears if I mute speakers). I've searched for information about it on Internet, but I haven't find something. The siren sounds 3 times and then play again some minutes later.
    I'm very worry about it, because it could be a harware failure warning. Or a virus?. Please, help me. Thank you.

    i had only safari open.
    iMac i7 , snow lion.
    console log does not show any process running at that time ...
    where else can i look to find out what would do this?

  • Flash Player playing multiple sound feeds at once...even when browser is closed

    I recently updated my Flash Player to 11.3 (most recent version). When I go to a site which utilizes Flash (e.g. YouTube), I will start the video, and then about 10 seconds later, I get multiple sound feeds at the same time. They all sound like commercials, or tv channels. Even when I close my browser, the sound continues. When I open my sound mixer, there is a "program" listed of "winrscmde" which is playing the various audio channels all at once. When I go into the task manager, "winrscmde" shows as a svchost.exe *32. When I stop that service the sound stops. It will start again when i access a flash site. When I uninstall Flash Player 11.3, this stops.
    I'm running Windows 7 - 64 bit with latest updates. IE 9.0.8112.16421
    Any help would be appreciated.

    About the second post down, the poster recommends downloading TDS killer as winrscmde.exe is disquised as svchhost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder (you have to click on "Properties", then "Details" tab and check the original filename...if it's bogus, it'll say winrscmde.exe as the original name).
    I also ran the aswMBR program as well as FixTDSS (http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/global/removal_tool/threat_writeups/FixTDSS.exe).
    That seemed to fix the issue. Just reinstalled Flash and don't get the same issues. The svchost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder is legit!
    Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem.

  • OnRollOver sound in a movie clip object

    Scenario: I have a  frame with a quiz question and three answer options. The three answer options are movie clips. Their instance names are q1_soundA, q1_soundB, and q1_soundC. I want each option to make a different sound when rolling over them. My sounds are already in the library and they have been linked: each one has a unique identifier (a, b, and c) and "Export for ActionScript" and "Export in first frame" are checked. Under frame properties, sound is none, sync is event, and repeat is 1.
    I have a separate layer with the following code in the first frame (the quiz question is in the second frame):

It doesn't matter where I move or click, the sound keeps playing all the time. I am new to ActionScript, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something somewhere. There is no code in any other frame or object.

    Update: I found one "Over" frame event  in one of the answer options which was playing the sound. I got rid of it and now my onRollOver code is doing nothing. The code stays the same as above.
