No sound in rear speakers with Sound Blaster Li

I have a Sound Blaster Li've sound card.. In win98 with older drivers it was possible to set the card to 5., but now (in winXP and newest drivers) there are these thrre optins: headphones, 2 speakers and 4 speakers... I use digital output and I have 5. speakers. I can li've with only 4 speakers but it does not work very good.
When i press the test button i hear the front left voice and the front right voice correctly in the front speakers, but i hear both voices in both rear speakers. But then the test is supposed to say rear left and rear right, but there is no sound. My receiver is a Harman/Kardon AVR 550 and is set to dolby pro logic and 5. speakers.
How do I solve the problem!

All,
Are you using the Li'veDrvUniPack from our website or using the default Windows Driver? If you are using the default driver then there will be limitations. You will need to install the complete Li'veDrvUni-Pack from our downloads section to get 5. if you have a Li've! 5. card.

Have the SB X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard combined with the Digital I/O Module so i can get digital sound through my 6. Sony Amp. I have the Digital I/O module connected to my amp via a Coaxial cable. I have set the speaker set up to 6., and have run the channel test in the Creative Console Launcher. Now heres the problem im having, i get the correct sounds coming from the front left, center, and right speakers, but when it tests the rear left speaker, the sound comes from the front left instead on the rear left, for the center rear the sound comes from the front center, and for the right rear the sound comes from the front right speaker. Can someone tell me how i get the correct sound come from the rear speakers please?

The Xbox encodes the sound on the fly to form a DD stream. No PC game encodes DD by itself, even when the game is DD certified it needs a soundcard capable of encoding it, like the soundstorm on the nforce2. If your receiver supports analog inputs use them, the DD compression would probably degrade the sound at least to the same degree than an analog connection.

  • No rear speakers with quicktime update

Once I updated quicktime about 3 versions ago, I can't seem to get the rear speakers to play with videos. All four speakers work fine with music and any other file but just not with movies.
Anyone have similar problems and know how to fix this? So far I've just been reinstalling the old version which is a bit of a pain since everytime I update itunes it automatically installs the new quicktime.
I'm using a Dell 5100 with windows xp and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card

Try installing the latest version of iTunes (7.0.1.8) from Apple's website. It fixed this problem for me although QuickTime is still showing version 7.1.3.

?I found, on very obscure intructions, how to enable surround sound on vista 32 and 62 bit drivers.
?Do not install the disk that came with the sound card, if so, then uninstall. Then use (only) the vista drivers for vista 32 bit or 64 bit. The disk, and the drivers on this website, together installed?won't work.
?Then?click Start,?then go to?programs then creative. There in the controll panel select xifi-cmss 3d. Under stereo envelopment put 50% that equals the sound between front and back speakers. and that's it. It worked 00% for me, it might work for you.Art.

after having slept a couple of hours and read about a bit about pulse and jack the general feeling I get is that they cause people trouble.
Understanding how to write a good .asoundrc seems to be the best option, but a bit complicated. Since I didn't actually want sound from both cards, but merely a simpler way to switch, I've given up for now. I wrote a simple script to do it for me, and running that is actually simpler than fiddling in alsamixer, finding and muting/unmuting channels/cards
I don't feel I've solved the issue, since I didn't get what I asked for (sound from both cards at the same time) but I have what I want (a simple way of switching) and I know where to look (finding out how alsa handles virtual cards, setting one up and send all sound that goes there to my actual cards or configuring pulse/jack this thread was sort of helpful as it begins to explain a .asoundrc) if I feel a need for it in the future.
Thanks anyway for all the help. After 4 years of Arch use (and more then I can remember on linux) I still feel like a noob sometimes. It's good to have a community.
    here is my, almost, solution

#creating or uncreating the .asoundrc config file by renaming it
    if [ -f $HOME/.asoundrc ]
    then mv -v $HOME/.asoundrc $HOME/.asoundrc-no-use

  • Why no sound from rear speakers (Xfi X

Vista 32bit, CMSS enabled, why no sound from rear speakers with music? XP no problem at all, only in Vista. Using latest drivers (v2.5.0004).
I realize I'm hoping against hope to get a useful answer at the Creative forums, but I do believe in miracles and the odd one happening once or twice in a lifetime, lol.

Well, I think I have an answer, from Catherina-CL's Audio in Windows Vista post. 2.The Vista audio architecture changes the way per-stream audio processing works, which required us to write new software to support this
    Issues that may be encountered:
CMSS no longer works on audio streams from the OS.
    Status:
Features based on Windows XP architecture must be rewritten to conform to the new Vista architecture, and we have a team of software engineers, project managers and testers dedicated to this task in order to provide our customers the same seamless audio experience under Windows Vista that they enjoyed under Windows XP. However, I found a somewhat crappy solution, at least with my old Altec Lansing 4 speaker/ subwoofer system. Unplug the surround cable from your subwoofer (unplugging it from the card itself has no effect). That at least will make all the speakers work, even if it's not true surround. Good for listening to music loud.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy with 5.1 Speakers prob

I have 5. speakers with a sound blaster audigy sound card. I've installed all the drivers and additional programs but it looks like my 2 rear speakers are not working. I thought maybe it was some kind of speaker problem but when i switched the 2 rear with the 2 front then the rear worked but front didn't. In the surround mixer i tested the 5. and here are the results:
    - Front Left (Sound: OK, Speaker: OK)
    - Center (Sound: NO SOUND)
    - Front Right (Sound: OK, Speaker: OK)
    - Rear Left (Sound: OK, Speaker: NO - The sound comes from the center speaker)
    - Rear Right (Sound NO - It sounds very strange... bearly you can understand the words, Speaker: NO - The sound comes from the center speaker)
The wired are set correctly i checked it and I dont know what it might be wrong. Drivers are ok and everything are installed. Help please.

"I thought maybe it was some kind of speaker problem but when i switched the 2 rear with the 2 front then the rear worked but front didn't."
Does this not indicate two of the speakers are not physically working? Or have a mis-interpreted?

  • How to use 5.1 computer speakers with PS3 via Sound Blast

    Hi,
i dont have the money to buy a second set of surround sound speakers to use with my PS3. I already have a set of Creative 5. surround computer speakers that connect via 3.5mm jacks into my sound card, there is no optical port on the speakers.
Is there a way to use these speakers with the PS3 as well. I was thinking along the lines of could i buy a new Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme audio card which has an optical-in socket and connect my PS3 to the sound card via optical cable, and use the new Sound Blaster as an amp to redirect the sound to the computer speakers back out along the sound cards 3.5mm jack connections.
I have no idea if this would work or not so before i buy the new sound card i could anybody confirm or deny whether this works. And if not any suggestions?
Thanks alot, i appreciate any help.

thanks again but perhaps i didnt explain clearly enough. I dont want to have simultaneous optical input and output, other wise there wouldnt be a problem. The speakers i have are 5. computer speakers. The computer is connected to them via 3*3.5mm jacks from the sound card to the sub, the other sattelite speakers are connected by audio rca to the sub. My speakers have no optical-in on them, hence having to to re-route the sound through a sound card (if it would work). Essentialy using the sound card as an amp or as a big optical to 3*3.5mm jack adaptor.

  • USB Live! Sound Blaster 24bit with poppi

Hi. A month or two ago I purchased my usb connected Li've! Sound Blaster 24bit from CompUSA. It has worked fine with my logitech 5. speakers. Yesterday, I bought a 60gig Maxtor harddri've from compusa, also USB. Since I installed that, my sound has been having loud pop sounds once in a while, especially when data is being transfered to the harddri've. I have a 400watt powersuply, amd athlon single core processor, gig ram, onboard harddri've, a geforce nvida 7800gt graphics card. The video card has a printed requirement of 350watts. The harddri've has its own powercord, and the usb that connects it to my PC, and so do the logitech speakers I have both the sound blaster and the harddri've plugged into the rear of my PC.
The poping sound happens about twice, then the sound blaster box makes a click sound and turns off. When I unplug, then plug it back in or press the mute button on it, it comes back on, but I have to restart whatever application that was playing the sound because it no longer works. For instance, if I'm listening to music on iTunes, and the card turns off, I have to close iTunes and reopen it or no sound will come from that application, same goes for media players, web based sound i.e. youtube. When the card turns off, the green and blue light on the front turn off, while I can still see a red glow from the 'optical output' slot.
The only change I made with my PC is plugging in the harddri've. The popping/shutting off of the card happens both when I play sound thats stored on the external dri've, and stuff like my iTunes which is on my internal. The model number of my card is 580490 and the box had a sticker that said '5. home theater audio for your PC' plus another sticker that said '64 bit, Windows XP Pro x64'. I downloaded the drivers for this, but when I tried to apply them, it said they didn't need to be updated. I don't know how to uninstall them.
    Thanks, asukar

    AmusedToDeath,
It's not referring to the cable. That information is referring to your computer USB controller. If your computer USB controller is only USB . then you will face the limitation.

  • Windows 7 64bit and Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - No rear sound

As the title says I have a sound blaster x-fi titanium running on a windows 7 64bit box. I have downloaded all the latest drivers and tools from creative. The issue is no matter what I do I cannot get the 5. surround working. I have the front 3 speakers working and I can even get it to double the two front side speakers to the rear, but not true 5.. I have tried both DD li've and DTS. I have an Onkyo HT-R550 receiver that supports both DD and DTS and I'm connected over a digital optical cable. Trying to figure this one out!
I've gone through all the modes in the creative audio software and tried all the surround modes on the receiver.
    Please help

Ok. I have actually formatted my hard dri've to fix another windows and I'm back where I was. I'm testing using the speaker page in the console. I get great sound from all 3 front speakers and my sub. What I've found when clicking the back two I will get a very quiet but clear test voice through both rear speakers, no matter which side I picked. Also the bass portion of the test comes through the sub as normal. I can't seem to get the rear speakers to test any louder.
I did the surround sound speaker test and it all sounds good (without the PC involved). Also my PS3 plays great surround sound through it using the same optical cable.
I also tried your suggestion with no improvement.
    What's next?

?????????????Hi Everyone,?I have a Dell computer, about?4 yrs. Old, that came with Sound Blaster Li've! 5. Digital (Dell) audio card pre-installed. I purchased a set of front speakers & sub woofer from Dell that all connect thro one speaker cord which is inserted in the ?"line out jack " on the Sound Blaster Li've! 5. Digital (Dell) card. Now I'm thinking about hooking up?a surround sound speaker system, or to my AV receiver. I also have a?"rear out jack" and a "analog/digital out jack" that I have never used. But I need some documentation on how to do this.Feed back will be appreciated.

I have a digital as well but it is virtually useless I have tried everything nothing on this site nothing works. As well. I have a 5. li've and every driver?Idownload corrupts within 2 weeks, speakers start to crackel yadayada. Is there any support at all from this site for the product that you put out? I notice the driver dates on the downloads page is way outta date by like 4 yrs, lol. • 5.1 Headphones with Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital (De

Hi, I just purchased a pair of Kinyo 5. surround headphones and when I connect them to my Sound Blaster Li've! 5. Digital (Dell) soundcard, the center speaker sounds much weaker than the rest. I'm guessing that the black output on the card board is the rear speaker output, the green one the sides, and the yellow one the center/subwoofer or digital out. Enabling the CMSS setting helped a bit, but it still seems quite weak. Either that or the rear and side speakers are too loud. Is there any way with the card I have to adjust the levels of the side, rear, and center speakers?

Try turning on the CMSS features. The sticky at the top of this (Sound Blaster) forum covers the steps on how to enable CMSS or you can check out the Knowledgebase article SID4883 for the steps.

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
    with games.
    Below is the connection:
    - Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
    connection
    - Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
    connection
    - Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
    orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
    settings.
    Does it work?

    Thanks for your reply
All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
    5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
    gaming..

Subject: RE: CLE - Technical Support Request (KMM8875697I6636L0KM)
    Dear Martin
    Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.

panel that would have come with the Sound card if I had not tried to
    save
money, but every time I search your accessories site I get completely
    lost,
it really isn't user friendly, the sub-menus are very time consuming and
point you in the wrong direction because they are not categorised as Joe
    public would understand
I downloaded your TEST Movies and creative demo player utility, ran it
    but
still no EAX HD or DD if that were present.
I want to put this card and Processor into my boys computer (which is
    the
same Spec as mine and I will update to the FX series, but I am unwilling
    if
I cannot find a logical reason why this set-up cannot work first.
Would it have anything to do with the pins on the Digital out on the
    sound
card plug, the one I bought and was attached to the last email? Only
    sending
certain channels down to the processor?
    Regards
    Martin

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
Your speakers are fine as you mentioned that there is sound from all the
speakers when you are playing movie.
May i know what game are you playing when there are no sound from the
    rear speakers?
Have you done the appropriate settings in the game to achieve the 5.
    sound?
Is there any game patches that you will need to update?
Does the Dolby Digital LED light up when you are playing the game?
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this
    email.
    Best Regards

    Hi
I am sorry; I should have said the Inspire 5. was model number digital
    5500
    S/N SW330030026.
The inspire has these connection on the back of the processor
    >From top/back of unit
    Audio Outputs
    Front
    Rear
    Centre/subwoofer
    Audio inputs
    Audio line in
    Coaxial
    Optical
    DIN
The Din to a remotely located Subwoofer which has the speaker leads
    inputting into it. Plus power.
Attached is the creative view of the controls menu and I have attached
    the
invoice I was sent, it shows the lead I was told to fit.
As I said, I can now hear DD5. while within a movie from ALL speakers
    BUT
no sound from rears during IN GAME DD5.
I do not use this PC for films only games.

    Martin
If you are having a digital connection, it is normal for only get only
front left/right is you use the speaker test option.
    http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4858
Speaker test only outputs from two front speakers?
You mentioned that that you are unable to get any sound from the rear
speakers when playing game right? May i know are you using a digital
connection? May i know what speaker settings have been made under
    Creative Speaker settings?
Do get back to me on the above.
    Thanks

    Computer Brand/Model: home made
    Processor/CPU: AMD 64
    Memory: Gig DDR 4
    BIOS Type/Revision: 5. 39
    System Board/Chipset: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
    Detailed Problem Description:
I have the above Sound card.
    I also own Inspire 5. amp/processor
I Wanted to save money by connecting above sound
    card to amp/processor
Connections on sound card made life very difficult
I contacted Creative for help. you told me to buy
an RCA to mini jack cord which also has other connections, from your
web site, (I tried to find
the product number for you, but your sub-menu
system is so poor I couldn't locate the RCA/mini
3.5 /to phono link for you) this cord connects
directly into the digital in, on the sound card (3.5 Mini jack) to the
    coaxial input on the
    inspire 5. amp/processor.
I have enabled ALL sp-diff settings and digital in
setting on every program/utility/kitchen sink and all.
I have an SP-Diff wire from DVD burner to creative
sound card, and yes its enabled and digital only
    is selected.
I can play a DVD and see the inspire 5.
automatically change from Pro-logic to Dolby
digital when it See's an AC-3 stream.
when I try and play ANY game you say has EAX
,2,3,4 I cannot get any sound from my rear
speakers (see above in Dolby Digital ALL speakers
    work correctly)
when I enter the set-up menu within the creative
software you supply with the sound card and select
    5. speaker, digital only, test the speakers via
the white noise function, all i hear is left and
right noise. no centre, no rears.
I phoned you tech support line, the boy on the
phone didn't have much of a clue about your
product and I had to tell him what connections sit
on the inspire 5. series amp/processor.
I want to build another PC for my son, I want to
add the FX series sound card and amp, but i am not
willing to buy anything until i feel you have
helped me to solve this problem first.
please can you help, I am at the end of my tether
    with this sound card.
    kind regards
