And what site would that be?

  • No sound in safari despite garageband restart or midi reset

i can't get any sound in safari for youtube videos, videos on the apple site etc.
i tried the "start and quit garageband" - great sound in garageband, none in safari
i tried the "reset audio setup to 44.1kHz" - already was and again didn't change
    can anyone help?

found a solution - I deleted the preference folder (or rather, kept a copy outside my home library) after I discovered that the problem was not present in a fresh user profile I created. I then added back bit by bit the preferences I needed for my other applications, and now all is running smoothly again.

  • No sound in Safari & Firefox

The sound in Safari & Firefox has stopped working. I usually watch streaming video and it stopped working this morning. Worked yesterday.... Oddly, it does work at the Apple website. I do have sound in iTunes. I've tried turning sound on and off at the videos. The sound is turned all the way up on my mac and on the videos and I've tried changing the levels. I've deleted the com.apple.quicktime.preferences.plist per one suggestion I found. I restarted the mac. I tried to remove Safari from the applications folder to desktop and download a new version, but I'm using 2.0.4 and the copy on the apple site was 1.x and wouldn't play. I deleted the Safari icons folder then changed the new one to Read Only per another suggestion. Safari does open faster now, but that's it, still no sound when not at the Apple site. Internet connection otherwise works fine. I thought the problem might be Quicktime, and it turns out that links that go through the Quicktime 7.1.3 player work inconsistently. Any other ideas?

  • Sound on Safari not working

Suddenly the sound on Safari is not working, but works ok for Skype? Any answers to this. Many thanks!

Just one web site or every web site?

  • No sound using Safari on youtube videos

    Hi all,
I have a new macbook (my first mac) and using Safari I do not get any sound when viewing videos on youtube.
The sound works fine with itunes and garage band.
I have tried dragging the com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist file to the trash, emptying the trash, and rebooting with no luck.
I've also searched threads without any luck there either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott.

I have a Mac Mini that has the same problem. It works fine on iTunes, etc, but sound from Safari is very very faint and garbled a bit. I have a lot of amplification in my output chain, so I can barely hear it with all of it turned to ridiculous levels. I have seen other posts about starting Garageband and Audio MIDI Setup with no luck. My youTube level is all the way up, and it also does it from an mp3 file streamed from a web page. The Audio MIDI Setup screen has the little sliders in the lower right all the way down, but grayed out so that I cannot turn them up. This seems to be the way to fix it, but they are inactive.
I also have a Firewire device hooked up (Presonus Firebox), but that will not play it either (also works with iTunes fine).
There are a lot of instances of this on the web. What is the deal, Apple?

  • Why I can not play sound in Safari ?

I can not play any sound on Safari , Version 7.0.5 (9537.77.4).
    I've got a Macbook OS X Version 10.9.4 (updated )
Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)

I have a problem every few weeks where it somehow 'loses' the songs.  I have them showing but when i click play nothing happens.  I have to delete and redownload the song for it to play.  This only happens with stuff i purchased through itunes, mp3's work fine.  As an added bonus everytime i delete an album it doesn't actually remove the space so every month i have to backup and restore my ipad because it will have gigs worth of 'other data' that doesn't get deleted until i backup and restore.
    What a joke.

  • Is there a solution to getting sounds with safari notifications?

    Hi,
I noticed that I didn't get sounds with Safari notifications, even after checking the settings.
So, I took it to the 'Genius' bar, and they said it was a know issue with OS 10.3. It will be sorted with OS 10.4.
Well, I have just updated to 10.4, and no joy!
Why? I have selected a suitable sound in sound preferences.
I have selected 'Alerts' in the nofications preferences for safari.
I have ticked the play sounds box.
    Why doesn't this work?
    Thanks
    Jeremy

Right, I've done a restore and ejected the phone. Now it's giving me only two options: either set up as a new phone, or restore from iTunes backup (I don't use Cloud). It's not giving me a sync option so I guess I'll have to restore, unless anyone has any better suggestions?

  • Problems with sound and safari slowness

installed mavericks on a macbook pro from 2011, 2.5 GHz and 4GB RAM
the sound icon on the top menu bar is light grey, won't open in system preferences (spinning beach ball of death...)
safari takes FOREVER to load new pages, especially outlook, and new tabs...
anybody else having issues or have solutions?

    For the sound issue ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if the sound icon is bold in the status menu bar and try System Preferences > Sound
As for Safari, try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • NO QT picture, only sound in Safari

I just can't find an answer to this one. All I get is sound on any QT movie from apple.com (ie a top tip of the day) but no picture at all.
I would have thought my computer was powerful enough?

To be honest I am using Firefox anyway, even though the QT thing is fixed. Something in Safari cooky handling means it is rejected by some websites when I try to log in and view my account.
The mozilla thing is only relevant if you have an intel processor I believe, it doesnt look like you have.

  • Sound in Safari Not Working (Except on Apple Website)

A few weeks ago, out of the blue, sounds stopped working on the internet when I used Safari. Sites like Youtube.com, Espn, NYTimes, all became mute.
There is a potential fix for this problem at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832
There, it tells me to open the Midi Utility and change the audio output frequency to 44100. This works, only when I make the change and quit the utility the changes aren't saved! So, in reality it doesn't really work. Any idea on how to save the changes in midi utility, or to just get the sound back in Safari?
    Thanks a lot,
    Lee

i have exactly the same problem, but not only with safari, also with netscape.
i noticed it when i opened youtube.com, and i checked the modem security, the speakers, downloaded the latest flash player version but nothing worked.
so i downloaded firefox after i noticed the problem, i hoped the sound would work in firefox but it didn't!

  • Suddenly lost all sound in Safari

Can anyone help on this one. All sound has gone in both Sarafi (v3.2.1) and Firefox. I'm getting sound in all other applications, iTunes works OK. I have been through all the preferences, System and other and can find no reason for this. It was all working fine up until last night.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

Presumably this is when you watch videos on a web site?
Make sure you have the following installed:
    RealPlayer 11.1 for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2008-007. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.

  • Clicking sound in Safari when viewing new tabs

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with safari v5.0.2 on a macbook pro, where each time I first visit a new page on a tab, I hear a clicking sound. It only happens to tabs with pages I'm visiting for the first time in the session.
I have several other Macs which don't show the issue.
I'm getting a bit paranoid, cos I bought the macbook pro from an acquaintance who's had it a number of years. He had "wiped" the disk of his stuff before handing it over, but I found a tracking software installed.
I've since erased the disk, but this sound (which my other 4 comps don't make) is making me nervous.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

    I did a 7-pass erase.
    That'll do it eh
    ...comes through the speakers
good - must be some software glitch or universal access setting; the account test should confirm where to look, or you might start by disabling any safari extensions or other add-ons.

  • 5.1 sound in Safari through HDMI?

    Hello all!
I recently bought a new pro retina 15".
I connected through HDMI cable to my Denon AVR 1713 as my old laptop used to be.
What a surprise when starting an oline video on Safari, I couldn't get 5.1 sound in my speakers connected to the denon.
I tried everything I've found in this forum, configuring MIDI settings for 5.1 system. But nothing seems to work.
I like to see videos online and via some other programs such VLC
Is this normal? Some way to overcome this?
    Thanks a lot
    Best Regards

The sound comes from an editor who is a pro and knows how to deliver 5.1.
I also have premiere ( 5.5 ) so I guess I can import the film and the audio in there and then export for a convert to DCP.
Or if I understand you right I can use a CDP processing software like
    http://www.magnamana.com/finaldcp-released/
and there I import still images and the sound seperate?
    That´s how it works?
    /Mattias

  • Curious sound in Safari while mousing over bookmarks bar

I noticed it today at about 1:55 am: whenever my mouse entered the space over either of 2 buttons in the bookmarks bar that happened to be for FOLDERS, the computer played a short sound. It's pitch was C3 and it could best be described as a "saw hit". It was none of the system beeps. It did not occur consistently, but maybe in about 2/3 - 3/4 of the times. The site I was reading happened to be an article on Beliefnet. I never pressed the folder buttons to see what would happen (because I was trying to figure out the pattern first). It did not occur over any of the buttons that were straight LINKS. After 1:57 it never happened again. (going back to Beliefnet later had no effect either).
    I have 10.4.6, Safari is Version 2.0.3 (417.9.2)
Anyone has any idea what was going on?
    Cube, 2 ibooks   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

No, it stopped happening after the said time completely. It occurred only over the 2 buttons that were folders.
I don't think it had to do with the site I was on.
I got the feeling that it was either some "easter egg" type thing or some virus or something like that, i.e. a code that is activated by some constellation of things. I never heard that sound before or after, however it could be a GarageBand sound - but then how/why would it be activated in Safari?
    A mystery to me.
BTW, I meant to write "its pitch" and not "it's pitch".
