No Sound In Skype (run as another user)

Hi all,
I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sk … ecial_user and managed to run Skype as its own user and text chats are working fine.
However, when I'm listening to music Skype refuses to call anyone saying
Problem with audio playback
Strangely this doesn't happen when I run Skype as my own user.
I'd appreciate any idea/help. TIA,

No, not fatal, and not particularly problematic if you don't share your machine with other users at the same time. The bigger 'hit' in my opinion is performance since system-wide pulseaudio doesn't use some 'zero-copy' optimizations which the normal use-case does.

Help! My parents currently use an USB Modem - I think the 551 L - for their internet access. They have been receiving the following message:
VZ access manager is already running in another user's session
They do not have a wireless router installed.

VZAccess can only connect one user/session at a time. Either your parents did not properly shutdown VZA the last time they used it or the USB Modem is not hanging up its previous connection.
The easiest thing to do would be to reinstall VZA on that computer and see if the problem goes away. Ask your parents to disconnect the Modem before logging off or shutting down the computer to reduce the chance of the problem coming back.

Skype running as seperate user can't access jackdbus

I've locked down skype, running as a seperate user as outlined in the arch wiki, made sure that my .asoundrc is rather system wide as /etc/asound.conf.
Problem I have is understanding how to allow the skype process running as user 'skype' to access the Jackdbus running as different 'user'
Can anyone give me a hint where to look is this a visudo configuration or changing the /etc/groups ? I don't want to open anything wide again and negate the whole point of resitrictin skype in the begining.

I wouldn't modify standard gphoto.rules. I'd rather put this rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/00.udev.rules:
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="305b", GROUP:="camera"
to avoid overwriting after next update.
For restarting udev there is /etc/start_udev (or udev_start or something like this - I can't remember it :-))
thanks, it is /etc/start_udev - i was looking in /etc/rc.d.
i moved it back to 00.gphoto.rules so it won't get overwritten.
now that it's verified working in the standard rules, i'll make a report to the devs to add the cam there.
is your method for doing this in the wiki? i pretty much only figured out how to do it by reading your posts. if you have time, i think it would be a great wiki item. 8)

ABAP program in process chain running under another user

Hi, gurus
I have a process chain that load three DSO in order to generate authorizations. I wish to add a new process at the end of this process chain which calls ABAP program RSSB_GENERATE_AUTHORIZATION. I wish to run this ABAP program under a different user rather than using ALEREMOTE, our general purpose load user. The user to run authorization generation must be a system user specially created for this purpose.
My question is: is it possible to define a different user to execute only a process (ABAP program) inside a process chain while the previous steps can be run by a general purpose load user?
Is there any other approach? What about separating it into two tasks? How to sincronize them, that is, how to run generation just after successful ending of the load process?

Let us assume that you have two parts to this -
1. Process chain for Data Loads
2. Program for authorizations.
Schedule the authorization program in the background and have it run after a particular event - this way your authorization program is run with a specific user.
In your process chain put in a program to raise the event at the appropriate time so that the authorization program can run. The authorization program in the meanwhile will be runnnig and waiting for the event to occur.

Can't install Safari 4 - 'Another user is running Safari'

I was running the Beta and loved it and want the 4.0 but I'm stuck.
After running the installer I get a continual alert that says words to the affect of 'Safari is being run by another user. Quit all running Safari applications to continue' which won't go away till I shutdown and restart. The installer just stalls and won't go any further. If I force quit every application the Alert keeps popping up till restart.
Any ideas, some old Safari Beta 4 file somewhere I can trash. Unfortuantly I don't have the uninstaller that came with it any longer.

I did not run the BETA Safari 4 (I NEVER use BETA software). I would suggest uninstalling the BETA Safari (that will put you back to Safari 3) and then downloading (again) Safari 4.

Starting exe as another user

Hi,
Perhaps someone else dealt with this. I tried a lot of things, but haven't
succeeded jet.
I need to start a (LabVIEW) application, running as another user. From the
command line, runas works perfectly. But from LabVIEW, runas doesn't work.
This is documented, runas checks if it's called from the command line, and
doesn't start if it's not called from the command line. For start, there is
no commandline option for the password.
I did try to open pipes to runas, so I can pipe the password to runas, but
this doesn't work either. Runas seems to check from where it's called...
There is a tool called Sanur.exe, that can be used to pipe a password to
runas, so you can enter the password on the command line (like runas
/user:user "program.exe" | sanur password). This also doesn't work with
LabVIEW, since runas is still checking from where it is started...
So I tried some API's... CreateProcessWithTokenW with LogonUserA,
CreateProcessWithUserA with LogonUserA and CreateProcessWithLogonW... It
doesn't help that some of them are Unicode, but with MultiByteToWideChar,
that is easy to solve.
CreateProcessWithTokenW and CreateProcessWithUserA only work when the
client applications has few rights, so I got some errors about that. I
haven't tried to obtain those rights, since that is rather difficult.
The last one (CreateProcessWithLogonW) works on my PC, but gives error 6
(Invalid token) on the real environment. The API doesn't have a token input,
so something must be wrong. Nothing on internet about this either...
Anybody done this before?

Not directly but as part of a command file. I have an app named Drive Snapshot which requires admin rights and checks this during startup. As a restricted user I created a command file named DriveSnapshot.cmd with the following line:
runas /user:admin /savcred F:\Programme\SnapShot\snapshot.exe
Double clicking in Windows Explorer requires the password entered. The next time time it will simply start without a prompt.
Next I created the following VI:
Running the VI will start the commandfile and therefore start DriveSnapShot.
Next I logout and login as admin and changed the password. Then I login as the previous restricted user. Running the VI DriveSnapShot will not start. You need to provide the password again.
For the permanent change of passwords this is not a solution for Wiebe.
Talking to system administrators they maybe make the following solution possible:
Creating a special user in the domain with admin rights. This user wil never change his password and is only known to the application programmer and the admins.

Failing to create an email with outlook interop when outlook has been opened by another user account

I have an addin that customizes the excel ribbon. I added a button so that when the user clicks it, a new outlook message windows pops up with some default information on the email body, CCs, etc.
The problem is that if outlook is already running and it's running under another user account different from the one that was used to open excel (e.g. after opening excel i open outlook with shift + right click and then "Run As..."); i get an exception upon
instantiating the outlook interop object:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application();
The exception message reads:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80080005 Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE)).
What can i do to prevent this issue from happening?

In that situation I would test first for an existing Outlook process running and hook into it if it is running. If it's not running then I'd use new to create an Outlook session. There can only be one Outlook session running
at a time.
This sort of code will do the trick for you I think:

Running Solaris 10 on Sun VirtualBox, have one user account in 'Staff' where I want to administer some aspects of my system for the time being as part of best practice for administration. I login to my user account, open a terminal, su - root and then run smc&. I get an error in the terminal window about DISPLAY environtment variable not being set. echo $DISPLAY reveals that it is null, so I export DISPLAY=hostname:0 and then try to run again and I still get the message. I am able to execute smc& from the shell prompt if I am logged into the root session. The only change I have made to the system operations at this point was to move /export/home to a different disk/slice and that mounts fine so and should not have caused an error anyway. If I execute xauth as root and list I get something like this:
hostname:0 {encryption type} {RANDOM}
hostname/unix:0 {encryption standard} {RANDOM}This is to say it would appear to be that this is set correctly. Running a Report like another user

Hi there!
I'm would like a user to be able to run an "account index report" on a subset of resources.
I see that only users that have "Top" as scope of control may be able to run this report. The question is... is it possible to define the report task to be executed as another user (ie: configurator)? How? Using the <RunAsUser> directive?

I think it has to be "Top", because the Account objects (the accounts in the account index) are in Top. Unless there's a way to move them to a different organization the controlled org has to be Top.
One workaround is to use the "include" and "exclude" objects of the Admin Role. They let you fine-grain exactly which objects to be included or excluded.

You control the camera for Skype from within Skype, so Skype must be running to running to make video work.

I can't run my free trial download because another user had a different trial that's expired. How do I fix this?

Without any details to explain the situation, the only thing I can offer is that once a trial has been used on a machine it can not be used again as a trial on that machine. To fix it you would have get a new machine or wipe out the current one and make it appear new.

You might want to check out CURRENT_SCHEMA.
"The CURRENT_SCHEMA parameter changes the current schema of the session to the specified schema.
