No sound in Windows 7 on Macbook Pro

I have recently partitioned my Macbook's harddrive in order to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp 5.0. However when I got it all said and done I noticed a red LED in my headphone jack, not long afterwards I realized I had no sound whatsoever. Looked on various websites to try and resolve this issue but all of them just had me trying to hunt down drivers which in the end didn't even work. So now im stuck hoping to find some help to get the sound onto the Windows side of my m
Macbook

Did you download and then install the Windows Support Software, in Boot Camp. (Page 1)

  • No Sound on Windows 7 MacBook Pro (first-gen)

I've spent almost all day installing at least 20 different drivers to try and get audio working under Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 1,1 (Intel Core Duo). All other devices are working fine except my audio. Under Mac OS X the audio device is identified as "Intel High Defintion Audio". I've tried all the following drivers:
    RealTek HD Audio
    Sigmatel ITC Audio.
I'm not sure what else to try. Anyone have any suggestions. It should be noted that I do not have a Mac OS X install disc to install the default bootcamp drivers, however I did locate and download the exact drivers included on the Mac OS dvd and those did not work either.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Intel apparently no longer hosts it, but I found a mirror of AUDALLVISTA_6.10.5405_V73_PVIDT.EXE. After installing it, the headphone jack works, but the speakers do not.
This is kind of aggrivating because I think Apple shouldn't be so withholding about their hardware details. I could only find Apple's published developer whitepapers. They publish detailed audio I/O specs, but neglect to simply mention who made the hardware (SigmaTel or Intel, I guess), and which drivers would work with Windows (you know, that OS that holds a huge majority of the market share, which says a lot) - or they could simply make the Bootcamp drivers freely available for download. Reading through forums - post after post - that's what customers need to know, and it definitely leaves a bad impression to have to spend hours, especially of trial and error installations, of trying to find out something so simple that could be easily made freely available. I mean - if you're going to go with Intel architecture, there's pretty much an industry standard of publishing such hardware details of the product so this aggrivation doesn't happen.

  • Sound not working in MacBook Pro OS X

    Hello,
I have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro. The silica gel packet in my backpack broke and it went inside my Mac's headphone jack. I tried to remove it with a tooth pic, knife, cotton swab, cotton swab with glue etc etc. And finally sound stopped working when the sillica gel went deep inside. The volume icon is grayed out since then.
At times I see a red light from the headphone jack. I understand that the speaker is ok, because I have a parallel installation of windows and the sound works fine in that! I also hear sound via external speakers and bluetooth headset in OS X. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me that I had to replace the entire motherboard which might cost around $550! I am not ready to do that! Everything else works just fine!
Anyone knows any fix for this problem? My MacBook is mute for a long time

  • HT5628 Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS

Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS, using all the space of the SSD, by de-isntalling thus completely the Mac OS?

    Yes.
    but
You will have to erase the drive completely and install Windows, you can't achieve it just by deleting OSX
I do not recommend that you do it.

  • Lag when system sounds play on Retina MacBook Pro

I have a problem on my Retina Macbook Pro (Mid 2012, running on 10.9 Mavericks) that has persisted for quite some time.
Essentially the problem is that whenever an application plays a system sound, the application lags for a few seconds. However, this comes and goes.
For an example of what I mean, the lag happens when I make the following actions:
    - Deleting a file in Finder (Trash sound should play)
    - Using a 'find' prompt in an app like Chrome, Xcode, TextEdit, and entering a string that cannot be found. That is, the lag occurs when I type the character that causes no result to be found. (Beep should play)
    - Pressing 'delete' (backspace) in any app's text field with no text present (Beep should play)
    - If I go to System Preferences -> Sound, and select a new 'alert sound' in the Sound Effects tab, the lag occurs and the Console prints "System Preferences[52828]: Error 268435460 setting AlertSound"
While my computer is in 'problem' mode, every single app is guaranteed to lag when these events happen.
But as I said, the problem comes and goes. It first happened after I had to reinstall one day. I think I screwed something up with preferences, permissions and such, because it took a while for me to fix everything up. But I don't think I quite fixed everything, because this problem started to occur ever since then.
The problem will appear for days or weeks at a time and then disappear for weeks. Just now I'm posting this thread because it had actually gone away for months, and just reappeared today. Nothing that I have found can explicitly start or stop this problem from occurring, it's seemingly random.
Does anybody have any idea why this would occur, and what can be done to fix it other than a complete clean reinstall?
    Thanks!

Sorry wrong post to this thread.
    Now the right post.
No OS X can not use all 8GBs of RAM when the Windows Virtual Machine is running. As long as the Win VM is up and running it take all the RAM you allocated to it. So if you allocated 2GBs of RAM to the VM OS X can only use the other 6GBs. As for the CPUs OS X can use all the cores and or Virtual core as all current Intel CPUs show as double the physical number of cores. So if you have a Dual Core i5 it will look like you have 4 cores. It's done with HyperThreading.

  • Audio problem with boot camp when I connect my windows 7 macbook pro to HDTV

I have windows 7 32 bits installed on my macbook pro and I setup boot camp 4. When I connect my macbook pro to HDTV using mini display cable, the audio doesn't work. Although I set the default sound device to digital audio? help please!

I've found that jiggling with the audio connection to my Mac Pro when running in Boot camp, I get audio OK. I don't understand why -- because I always get audio when running in Leopard.

  • Considering a switch from Windows to Macbook Pro, Help

Hi, I've never owned a Mac before and I just recently noticed a lot of cool things they can do. I own a Lenovo laptop that is 3yrs old and works just fine. My question for you is, that if the only thing I use my laptop for is to surf and play poker on the web, am I just wasting a lot of money on this machine since I wouldn't be using everything it is capable of?? I use Itunes also a lot, but that's about it for my laptop. Thanks for any suggestions and help!

This sort of sounds like you want to move to a MacBook Pro... you just need to justify the purchase (a position I often find myself in). As you've pretty much mentioned, your current Lenovo machine works just fine for what you are using it for... so you probably know that you don't "need" a new machine. Having said that, if you are looking to get a new machine, the MB Pro is an excellent choice. You can still install Windows (either natively through something called BootCamp, or by setting up a virtual machine within OS X). So... with a new MacBook Pro, you're not losing anything. It will be faster (even for Windows). I personally am the type that just likes to play around with different operating systems as well. I don't really have any issues with Windows (and I actually like Windows 7)... but I also like to try out different Linux distros as well. OS X is really the only other operating system out there that is really consumer friendly. The community behind Apple products tends to be top notch as well. All too often when I go to a PC forum... if someone is asking a question where the answer may seem obvious... you end up with a ton of derogatory comments from users telling them how much of an idiot they are. That is very rare in the Apple support forums. Frankly, I'm not sure I have ever seen it... but since I can't say for sure it "never" happens... I'll just go with it happens "rarely". Other users are always very supportive and willing to help out with the simplest to the most complex issues... often taking the time to actually research questions and provide comprehensive responses.
So... in going with a Mac... you're not just getting the newer hardware (which... lets be honest... as nice as it looks... inside it's the same stuff as every other PC maker)... you're also getting a great secure OS and a support community that's second to none.
It doesn't sound like you "need" a new machine now... but if you really are itching to upgrade, moving to a MacBook Pro is a great choice.

  • Help!? No sound output on my Macbook Pro?

There's no sound devices listed in the output... Like it's "lost" the internal speakers, and can't recognize a headphone jack.
I still get to hear the startup tone, but after that, nothing else... Any ideas?
    I'm running 10.7.5 on a macbook pro.

First check System Preferences/Sound - check all the settings to make sure mute is not selected.
    Repair permissions & restart.
Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.

  • Can't connect to work server (windows) on MacBook Pro through VPN - via router

Due to the nature of my job now, I am working remotely.
The IT department hooked me up with a MacBook Pro that connects to our work server, which I know is Windows-based, via a VPN. The VPN connects just fine; however, when I go to connect to the server—it doesn't find it. It gives me:
The server “dc03” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Interestingly enough, the first time I used it (at Starbucks, then McDonald's) it worked, but at home it wouldn't. We isolated the issue to the router, since I could do it when plugged in, but no one could figure out what kind of settings were different or weird. I went to the store and bought 2 other routers. One worked, the Linksys, but the Belkin did. WHAT? So the cheaper one worked? This was the easiest solution, because still don't know the bottom line: why?
Now, a local spot in town that I frequent—one that used to allow me to connect to my work server—changed routers (the "newest, fastest" AVIS). So now, I cannot connect and get that same message.
My IT guys are stumped. I don't personally know enough about this side of technology to be of any use.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

What is the make & model of the new wireless router that you ISP has provided you? Are you able to administer it if needed?
For the MacBook Pro, try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • USB 3.0 HDD disconnects on Windows 7 Macbook Pro Mid 2014

Macbook Pro with Retina display 13" Mid 2014
I have installed windows 7 using the Bootcamp assistant which downloaded the support files and installed from an 8GB USB 2.0 flash disk.
All went well and I have a working installation of Windows 7 ultimate, BUT I am having issues with using a USB 3.0 external HDD which contains my backups.
It plugs in and is detected OK, but when I try and transfer field, or just leave the disk a while it will drop the disc, then resect it again.
I turned off the power management on the USB ports and this made no difference.
I installed the latest extensible USB 3.0 drivers from Intel but these made no difference.
I tried reinstalling window from scratch by deleting from Bootcamp but no difference.
The drive works fine in OSX and on other computers but just not on the Macbook Pro in Windows 7.
Any suggestions as I need to recover my photos from a Windows backup and cannot do this in OSX which is why I need Windows 7 working with USB 3.0
    Thanks in advance.

  • Adding windows to MacBook Pro using boot camp and external USB SuperDrive

  • Installing Windows on Macbook Pro, NO BOOTCAMP

I have a 15 inch core 2 duo Macbook Pro and I went to restore my computer to tiger once again and when I did I relised that the disk is too scratched up, I can only get about 90 percent of the minimal installation done.
After a while of trying diffrent things i got fet up and partitioned my hard drive to Master boot record and poped in my Win7 install disk, I installed Windows 7 perfectly with no problems but now when I go to boot it up all I get is a grey screen and after a while a folder icon pops up with a question mark on it.
How can I fix this without using another mac or bootcamp, because I DON'T have access to one and i DON'T have access to another mac cd, so don't give me that option, lol.. The only thing I have access to is another windows 7 computer.
Please help, I thought mac was suppose to be one of the top brand computers. especially with the price of them, but so far I've had more trouble with this mac than what I did with my HP, I had my HP 3 years now and my macbook not even a year.
    Thanks,

    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Select the Windows disk icon and click on the arrow button.
Where did you get the Windows installer from? Your HP? That's an OEM disc that cannot be used except on your HP. You need a retail Windows disc if you want to boot the Mac exclusively with Windows. Of course you will not have any of the hardware drivers for Windows for use on the Mac hardware.
I don't understand your complaints about a computer you don't seem to know how to use, your installer discs are all scratched up and no longer usable, but you have had lots of trouble with it. And, all your doing is trying to use it as a Windows computer. Defies logic.
