No sound--- Logic  Studio 9.0.2  Pro tools 8.0.1 and apogee DA and AD 16x

I can't get sound out of Digi core audio manager---I can hear it through speaker in computer if I select that option, but I can't get sound from apogees. Spoke with apple and digidesign, ---I can't get it to work. Pro tools works fine---When I look at Digi core audio window the hardware settings window is grey and not accessible. I think I need a window like the I/O window on PT--Does anyone have a remedy or any ideas, or has anyone experienced this-----Mac Pro 2.8 quad intel w 8 gig ram

Hi,
the Digidesign CoreAudio driver supports only the first 8 I/O of your first (main) interface.
You will be able to open the "Digidesign Hardware Setup" from within the "Digidesign CoreAudio Manager", if no application is up and running that is using this CoreAudio driver.
Best,

your new lion-machine should have quicktime 7, too. if it doesn't, and if it doesn't show up after you migrated your stuff from you old machine you can always reinstall it from the logic dvd's, it's part of logic. my recommendation is to always use quicktime 7, since it's got many features that are absent in quicktime x. quicktime x is nothing but a polished video player. in quicktime 7 (pro, comes with logic) you can even do edits and paste your music onto video files. i use it all the time, especially since logic 64bit doesn't export to video anymore.

I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. I have spent a huge amount of time trouble shooting, resetting, reapplying software and finally calling Applecare without any help. It would be great to get this problem solved.

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

  • Logic Studio on new Macbook pro retina

    Hi,
after 6 years my macbook "died" ... :-( I am thinking about buying a new macbook pro retina..
My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!
    Philipp

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • Logic 7.1 compatability with Pro Tools Mix?

    Hi,
Can I import audio or open a file from a Pro Tools Mix session, and if so, how? I'm sort of confused as I thought that Logic could open and save as SDII. Am I wrong here?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Thanks for the quick response; however I think I may not have been specific enough. What I'm trying to do is to open some songs that my band recorded in a local studio. They are on an external hard drive, and when I go to open or import them, the 'open' button on the bottom of the Open File Dialog is unavailable. I can see the song names, track names, fade files, etc. What I can't seem to do is to actually access the audio itself.
I've spent a good deal of time with the Reference Manual, as well as the Apple Pro Training Series by Martin Sitter; obviously there's some basic step I'm missing.
Sorry to not have better explained it the first time, but I was starting to think that I was just trying to accomplish the impossible.
    thanks again,
    Jim

  • Is Logic Studio the replacement of Pro?

Ok, I noticed that Logic Pro 8 doesn't appear in the store, but when you search for it, studio comes up. Has studio replaced pro? Cause I'm really thinking to get it, but I don't want to if Studio is just an in-between of express and pro. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can remember making the request to have Logic Pro and STP Pro bundled in a 'Studio' ap akin to Final Cut Studio and having my thread locked!
Just cause they lock ya' doesn't mean they don't love ya'!

  • I have just bought Logic studio for my macbook pro, do i need to buy a midi keyboard?

Bascily just wondering if this would be essentail to the purchase i have just made, if not it's no bother. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)"  can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

  • How can I upgrade the solo version of Logic Pro 9 to Logic Studio?

I just would like to know how and where to upgrade logic pro to logic studio

First of all, Erik is correct.. Logic Studio has been discontinued.. However, there are a few copies left around I am sure... to purchase if you really wanted to...
    But.....
Unless you really want Waveburner and Soundtrack Pro 3..(Neither of which have been updated for at least a couple of years now..)  there is little point in buying Logic Studio 2... as it will cost you $499... and you can buy Compressor and Mainstage (the other two parts of Logic Studio) for much less than that on the App Store.... and the additional content (that actually took up most of the DVDs in the boxed set) can be downloaded for free within Logic Pro itself.
I think a newer version is soon to be announce.
Not of Logic Studio there won't be.. I believe boxed sets of Logic are long dead and gone... and won't be seen again... It's all App Store products from now on...
There may well be a newer version of Logic Pro on the way.. but no one knows when.... until Apple announce it.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • Newly installed logic studio won't launch on my macbook pro

I just installed Logic Studio on my macbook pro (core 2) and it crashes before it can launch all the way. could this be a conflict with my protools LE software, or Reason? any ideas? thanks.

Have you downloaded the .01 update for LP8? That should improve things a fair bit. Don't know about the MBox2; might want to their website on that one.
    Cheers

  • Is there a way to download Logic Pro 9 from the app store, as I have already purchased the Logic Studio CDs?

    Hello!
I purchased the Logic Studio CD set in a retail store two years ago or so, and I was wondering if there was a way to have the app store recognize this purchase so all I need to do is download Logic Pro 9 from the app store when I get my new iMac (without a disc drive) this month?
    Thanks much,
    Elliott

    Hi
Short answer: No. You cannot convert "DVD" licences to Appstore ones.
    I'd suggest that you:
Make Disk Images of the DVD's on your current Mac, and use those for future installs
Make use of the "Remote Install"/DVD drive sharing feature
    Buy and External DVD drive

  • Logic Studio vs. Pro Tools?

Hi, I'm new posting in this forum so please bear with me if my questions are simple.
Anyway, I've been a Pro Tools LE (w/ Mbox) user for about 6 years now. I'm satisfied with the software and quality of the recordings, but the problems I've dealt with are endless. Between constant updates from Digidesign, computer errors and too many malfunctions, I've become exhausted with the program.
Anyway, my school store sells Logic Studio for dirt cheap and I'm thinking about making the switch. Before I do this though, any advice, stories, or related experiences would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to make the move if I'm not going to see an overall improvement from Pro Tools.
On a last note, Logic studio does not come with an audio interface, correct? If not, does anyone know if I could use Mbox to sync up with Logic?
Again, any advice on this subject is incredibly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It really depends on what you are doing. Each program has it's strengths. The "endless updates" from PT are pretty welcome to most users, as Digi stays on the program and gives free CS updates to fix bugs (sometimes before people have even found them) unlike Logic which can go for months on end without an update. The strength of Pro Tools is that you will always see new stuff coming out in the program, as Digidesign does not sell iPhones or computers and concentrates on just Pro Tools.
OTOH, Logic is way ahead of Pro Tools in it's handling of virtual instruments, you will never get PT to handle the load of VIs that Logic can. Whether that's important to you can only be determined by whether you are principally a composer or a person dealing more with audio.
PT8 will address many Midi shortcomings according to the feature list on their site and will close the gap significantly with Logic in some ways, but the program is still not the native powerhouse Logic is. I ran Nuendo on the Mac and it wasn't either. I've done ridiculously intense sessions on Logic 8.02 with my CPU half asleep...it's very, very impressive.
Best is getting something cheap like the MBOX Pro (Firewire) and being able to use both for their strengths. Personally I MUCH prefer dealing with mixing in Pro Tools, but not if a lot of virtual instruments are involved.
