No sound/muffled sound, please h
For the most part I'm getting no sound. Once in awhile I hear a muffled sound coming from my speakers. The connections are all hooked up right. I have all latest sound and video card drivers. I can't figure out what is going on here.. has anyone else had this issue or anyone know what may be the problem? Is there a fix? Specs are below.

If you have on Board audio make sure its disabled and the proper audio mixer is selected.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV. -
i installed win 7 on my mac book, and the sound driver was installed successfully, but i don't hear any sound, please help
Is the volume muted? Click on the volume icon in the system tray to see if it shows as muted. If that's the case, I know of a workaround to fix this because if you unmute the speakers now, the condition will come back when you reboot your computer. I don't know the exact steps off the top of my head at the moment as I'm not in front of my machine. Check this first and reply if muting was the problem and I will detail the steps needed to fix the problem.

MUFFLED SOUND PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
Hi,
I have put some movies onto itunes on Mac (os x) and can play them fine through itunes.
When i play it through apple tv the picture is there and some of the sound. The actors/actresses voices only come through very quietly and can't hear it.
I have tried everything i have read on these boards including restarting and changing settings! its driving me crazy!!

My ipod works perfectly fine except for the fact that if i try to listen to it with headphones the sound is all muffled and broken like. I've tried many different headphones thinkign it might be them but its not. Who knows how to fix. Please help
to prove that it's not the headphones, try them in different devices. If it's not them, try the 5 Rs:

My macbook pro is making a weird sound, please help?

i have an early 2011 model, it was running soo fine until now.
its making a weird sound, to describe, it sounds like a small *trrr* at normal state, and at high, intense states, (playing games..) it turns into a loud *trrrrrr*, but, if i hit it gently over the keyboard, it goes away, then comes back.
please, i dont have an apple retail store in my country, i need help from here, help me.first thing to do is to buy a new hard drive and an external drive before it fails so you won't lose your files.
once you've done that, put the new hard drive in the external drive and open disk utility.
format/erase your new hard drive as MAC OS EXTENDED Journaled.
After that has been done, open carbon copy (if you don't have it, you can download it for free).
Once carbon copy is open, click on clone your hard drive. Source drive is what you're using now and your target drive is your new hard drive.
Once carbon copy is done, turn off your macbook, open the back of your macbook, take off the hard drive and install your new hard drive.
After you've done all those, turn your macbook back on and you're back in business. -

i have a sound in stage channel 1 which i want to play as soon as the movies starts. and the user is able to control it by pressing the pause button

my mac pro is making a cough-like sound at random times. i think it might be a notification sound but i can't seem to figure out what it is, and it's starting to get really annoying. ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE? PLEASE HELP!
You computer model number or year? Version of OS X you're running? You said in the original post that these sounds are at random times, so I'll assume this isn't due to some sound effect setting in System Preferences. Open up the Console (in Launchpad > Utilities assuming you're running Lion) and select All Messages. If there is a common entry that appears in Console at the same time these noises are produced, report back what it is and someone may be able to help you. If not, I'm mystified - hardware problem?

There are a few things you can try.
1) try another outlet in another room (different circuit group) to see if the sound is still present.
2) If you are using a power protection device between your PC and the outlet and it is old replace it with a new one.
Even replacing the motherboard generally won't cure this issue as it isquite likely to be related to a problem in the (earthing) grounding and wiring in your home.

N8 compulsory "Camera sound" Please remove it
I'm starting this thread hoping that someone in Nokia will hear it and take action.
In some countries (Australia is one) the N8 Firmware has been altered so that when you take a photo the camera must make one of it's cheezy click noises.
It's pointless on the N8. The red LED is so bright that it can be blinding and it is terribly obvious that a photo is being taken. The phone even looks like many modern hand held cameras, and the camera even has a REAL shutter sound and doesn't need a fake sound addition.
So mr N8 firmware engineer at Nokia please hear this and remove the compulsory camera sounds from the firmware and enable the "off" setting under camera sounds for everyone.It isn't a legal requirement in Australia. There are other phones which don't make the sound (one example is iPhone on silent). I think this should be reviewed by Nokia, it makes an awesome camera seem cheap.
Also to answer the other question it hasn't been added in PR1.1 - it is a regional firmware thing, i.e. Australia has it's own variation that causes the restriction.
After all what fool would consider trying to secretly take a photo with an N8 when it has a super bright flash that will fire in random situations (face detection etc) and a red LED so intensely bright?
As far as I'm aware it is a legal requirement in Japan - the iPhone even makes a camera noise on silent in Japan. But you may find that the N8 LED and manual shutter sound probably even covers their legal requirement, except for the forward facing camera but the restriction could apply to that camera only.
P.S. one finger over the speaker and it is silent anyway - what good does it do. -
Unlock sound - please come back

sorry, my english is bad but I have a question: is there a possibility to get the unlock sound back?
The new IOS 7 has many good functions and so I will accept the new optic, which look like a toy for children... (not business-like).
But I really miss the unlock sound, all my phones before had a sound when I unlocked them. At the moment, I don't like to open my phone because everytime I feel sad and angry about the not-sound.

First try a Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the Steps in this article to force the device into Recovery Mode.

A while ago I started experiencing problems with my sound card (SigmaTel C-Major Audio). At first it started distorting the sound but after reinstallation of the sound driver (using Tools & Utilities CD-ROM) the problem was fixed for a short period of time when it started doing this again and I kept reinstalling the driver. Eventually, however, I completely lost the sound and when I checked in the Device Manager there was a problem with my sound card (yellow exclamation mark) and under Device Status it said (still does) "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to fix this by myself (and how) or I have to take the laptop to an ASP?

I did try (twice) what you recommended, unfortunately to no avail. The first time after restart the sound card was not detected (there was no message that new hardware is found) and there was again a yellow circle next to the sound card in device manager, and still the same message (This device cannot start). I uninstalled it again and after the second restart the sound card was no longer in device menager, obviously it failed to detect it again.
I don't know about you, but I have a funny feeling that the sound card does not make good contact with the mother board, and that the problem is on a hardware basis. The other day after I switched on the laptop the sound card did start ok and I could once again listen to music. However, that wasn't for long and after I hibernated and then dehibernated it the sound was gone again. It's very weird, insn't it?
Any suggestions what I can do next?

hey, i just got my sound blaster audigy platinum ex sound card today and the second i installed it and plugged in my speakers i got this static noise that would come out at all times, when i would play music you could hear the music softly, but still the static dominates. I disables my onboard sound and tried reinstalling in a different pci slot but still same problem. This is my first time buying a creative card and it has not been a pleasant experience so far. Can anyone please help me?

beside the wave slider to the right and slide it down to about 40% and try it, while playing if static still present
slide it down more while the track is playing, i had the same prob wwith li've 24bit 7. and this cured it for me.
