No Sound on HP Pavilion dv6000

Hello,
Suddenly I no longer have sound on my laptop.  I am running Windows XP, SP3.  I have checked the device manager and the driver is signed by Microsoft and says it is working ok. It is a Conexant High Definition Audio.  Mute is NOT checked.  I'm at a loss so any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

  • No sound device - HP Pavilion dv6000: p/n: KB354EA#UUW.

    Hello.
My fathers HP Pavilion dv6000 suddenly lost it's sound. When i try to press the sound-icon on the bottom (next to the clock) i it tells me that aren't registered any hardware changes, and when i hold the mouse over it, it says that there isn't installed a sound-output-device.
I'm not really smart on computers, so I was hoping that you guys could help me.
    Thanks!

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it.
Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Loss of sound on HP Pavilion dV6000 - Vista

I've suddenly lost sound on my dV600 laptop.  Volume control shows 100% and small green bar moves when sound should be heard.  This is affecting all sound:  internet, cd's, stored music, etc.  Sound is fine when I plug in a headphone or external speaker.  Mixer shows "internal speaker/headphones" as the application - icon shows a headphone.  Other than a Window's update, I've changed nothing.   Can anyone help ?   Thanks.

You may have a driver issue, try uninstall the audio driver from add/remove programs in control panel.
Download and install vista audio driver from your support page.

  • Sound Issue HP Pavilion Dv6000 OS:Windows Vista 32-bit

After setting my notebook up to record vocals from a P.A. the internal speakers and two headphone in jacks are making a continuous, fast paced popping noise. No changes were made to the sound card or operating system previously to setting up the computer to record. The only cable I plugged in to the computer to record was a line in to the microhpone jack from the P.A. which is a setup I use to record guitars as well and have had no previous issues. The guitar amp I line out of is 75 watt amp and the P.A. is 60 watts so I don't think any kind of overload is an issue as to what cause the noise. I set volumes down on everything as a fail-safe before powering on the P.A but soon after I turned it on the speakers started making the noise. I'm unsure of what went wrong exactly but I can only draw two conclusions, either the sound card is fried or the input jacks on the computer shorted out. I disconnected the internal speakers so I can still use the computer without sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated with determining what is causing the noise or how to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

No the eSata port is not bootable.

    Hello there,
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and after i disassembled and reassembled it to clean the fan, the lap top has no sound. In the device manager an error on ''PCI bus9, Device 9, function 2 & 3'' was appeared but after i installed new drivers the errors was fixed and it was written that the device was working properly. but unfortunately the device is not working properly because i stills have no sound. I also disassembled and reassembled for second time to find out if the problem was minor like an unplugged cable but everything was completely fine. Operation system: Windows 7 64 bit.  Can someone please tell me what to do?

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. The internal speakers have stopped working. I've tried all the troubleshooting tips I could find on HP.com and it still isn't working. However,  I do get sound when I plug in external speakers or headphones. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

  • I took my Pavilion dv6000 apart and now the sound isnt working

    So here is the situation...
My fan has been making noise so I wanted to clean out all the dust from inside my Pavilion dv6000. (But that isn't what i need help with right now.) So after I took it all apart and put it back together, I had this problem with turning the computer on. I think it had to do with this little ribbon cable that wasn't going in the spot where it had to be (it was connected to the power button chip.) I finally got that ribbon where it was suppose to be, and tried to turn it on. It still didnt start. The battery light would go on when it was plugged in, but nothing happened when I pushed the power button. I finally decided to give up and clean the finger prints off of it so I could bring it to my IT teacher tomorrow. While cleaning it, it all of a sudden turned on. I dont know what happened. It just turned on by itself. I mean, I could have pushed something while cleaning it, or maybe something was loose and tightened while i was cleaning it. But anyway, I finally got it to turn on. Now while doing homework, I notice the sound isnt working. I really dont want to take it apart if i dont have to becuase this is the last week of school and I need these practice tests that I put on my computer. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to possibly fix my audio without taking it apart. I was thinking if i check for the latest driver maybe that would help, but i have the latest driver and the sound still doesnt work. So does anyone know how I can fix this without taking it apart? If not does anyone know how I can fix it if i do take it apart? (for example, things to check to make sure they are connected or tightened?)
Thanks for your time and help, I really appreciate it.

  • Pavilion dv6000: Enable on-board speakers

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook running Vista. Recently I bought a pair of external speakers which connect to the computer via USB cable and proprietary software.
When trying to get these external speakers to work I went into Control Panel > Sound and selected an option to disable the onboard speakers. This caused the icon for the onboard speakers to vanish.
Now the notebook plays sound only through the external speakers. Can someone please offer me some help in re-enabling the onboard speakers?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

In the absence of any responses I began scratching around myself to try and find clues that might lead to a solution.
Since I thought the notebook's sound-card drivers may need to be reinstalled I searched for "hp notebook drivers" and in very short order found myself looking at this page: http://tinyurl.com/kkjqrs. One of the headings there is "Resolving No Sound or Audio Problems in Vista" -- it was right up my street.
After following the method for "Perform a simple sound system test" and reading subsequent headings it dawned on me that Vista does not by default display the icons of disabled devices on this notebook. Right-click, select display disabled devices and I was home and hosed.
I'll give myself a pat on the back!
PS: Thanks to CherlyG for posting this link else where:  http://tinyurl.com/2krh3u . If there is a next time at least I'll know how to post the correct model and part numbers, the sort of information that is very helpful to have in hand before one commences an enuiry for computer help.

  • Sounds on HP Pavilion go off randomly

I have a Pavilion dv6000 series and just suddenly began having a sound problem. The sound will come out of my speakers for about five to ten minutes then everything goes silent. The mixer still shows that everything's working well but there's no sound coming out of the speakers -- neither my internal speakers nor either set of external speakers that I have in different rooms of my home.
I called HP tech support and we went through a variety of checks -- reinstalling the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2 device, checking to see if there were updates. We did disk restores and even went so far as to do a complete disk recovery. Nothing has worked. I can be watching a movie on Netflix, a video on Youtube or listening to music on iTunes and the same thing happens. It plays for a while and then goes silent.
If I restart the computer, it plays again. Then it goes silent. If I reinstall the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2, it begins playing, but soon goes silent again.
There's no indication that it's silent -- the mixer show's it's working, etc. -- except for the fact that there are no sounds coming out of the speakers.
I'm at my wit's end. This started happening two days ago and I've spent hours on the phone with HP techs and nothing has worked. My job depends on hearing music and watching videos on my computer and I've lost a tremendous amount of time trying to figure this thing out. Has anybody heard of such a problem? Can anyone help me with this?

I just wanted to update my reply. My computer is now at the point that the sound doesn't work at all, so I started using my head phones while I tried to fix the issue. And now those don't work either. I've been trying to fix it with the HP customer service, they we're telling me that I needed to reload my windows and that it will take care of the issue. Well before I did this I wanted to back up my computer so that I didn't lose all the files on my computer. But it turns out that my backup software was messed up too! They told me that they would send me the software to fix the backup system, after giving me the run around about it for over a week. Now after telling me that the software wouldn't cost me anything and having emails that confirm it, they are trying to make me pay for it before they will send it to me! I will never, ever buy another HP computer, if for nothing else than for the horrible customer service!

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 Hard Drive Upgrade Question

Hello all, and thank you in advance for your advice.
I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.  It came with a Western Digital Scorpio WD800BEVS (80GB 5400rpm 8MB 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s) hard drive installed.  This drive finally failed after making funny noises for about 14 months, and I'm looking to replace/upgrade as the computer itself is still in good condition.  Thankfully I back everything up on an external, so nothing was lost.
I understand that a faster drive (7200rpm) will run a bit warmer, and draw power more quickly.  Power is not a concern, I rarely run the laptop without AC attached.  Anybody have an idea how much warmer a 7200rpm drive would run?  Would this be an issue on an older computer where the fans may not be as efficient as they were when new?  I do keep the vents clear and clean, so air flow should not be impeded.
    What I want:
    1) I'd like to upgade to more volume.
    2) I'd like to upgrade for speed as I frequently use the computer for photo editing (up to 18MB images using PhotoMechanic, Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, Noise Ninja).  I'm thinking 16MB cache and 3.0Gb/s internal would help with this.  Any downsides or compatibility issues with those upgrades on the dv6000?
    3) I intend to re-install the Windows XP Home OS that came with the machine, do the updates, and strip out all the HP/Windows extras.  Not about to purchase a new OS.
    4) Haven't checked prices yet, but I'm fairly certain it only has 1GB of RAM at the moment.  Will likely max that out to 2GB.
A quick search on Newegg brought up dozens of drives that appear to work with the dv6000.
Right now I'm between this Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $75 with 5-year warranty
    And this Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $65 with 3-year warranty
Will the dv6000 accept a SATA-II drive without issues?
The original part is $45 on Amazon with comparable prices elsewhere.
Any advice on which drive to go with (especially if you've used them personally) would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!
    ***edit***
    Additional information:
Looking at the label, my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6500, CNF74143HW, AMD Turion 64 X2 and nVidia graphics.
Also, I was mistaken, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium, not XP, so I will be reinstalling with Vista HP.
The RAM is HP 449929-001, it has 2x 1GB sticks already installed, not sure if this is the max or if it can take 3 or 4 GB and actually use it.

You don't give us the exact model of the dv6000 series you have but if it is an AMD processor and the model number is equal to or lower than dv6499 I would be concerned about any extra heat. If you have the Intel version I would be less concerned. The fact of the matter is that the newest SATA-II laptop hard drives draw less power and put out no more heat than before so a current 7200 rpm model would not be any hotter or draw any more power than the 80 gig you have now. However, that model series of laptops has been plagued with unexplained issues with all 7200 rpm drives and all 500 gig drives. I have been telling people here for quite some time that the optimum, low risk upgrade is to a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive.
You want more speed. A SATA-II drive will work fine but obviously will adjust down to a SATA-I connection. You do not lose much because the difference is only in max burst speed which is rarely attained anyway. I have personally installed 7200 rpm drives in dv6000 laptops and have not had a problem. I have not installed a 500 gig drive. My advice to you is to find a 320 gig 7200 rpm drive and look for one with a 16 or 32 meg cache rather than an 8 meg cache.I have also not tried one in a dv6000 but you might want to consider a 320 gig SATA hybrid drive. They cost a bit more but will be the fastest non-SSD drive you can buy:
    hybrid drive
    not hybrid
Good luck. There is a small risk of issues with a 7200 rpm drive but I think you will be OK. Keep in mind installing XP takes some special steps, all covered here on this Forum in the XP downgrade guide.

  • What hard drive enclosure to purchase for HP Pavilion dv6000?

I am trying to find a hard drive case/enclosure for my 2005 HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.  I want to retrieve all of the data from my hard drive because I can no longer charge the laptop.  I have tried two different types of hard drive enclosure, but neither worked.  Can you tell me the proper model to order?

    Hi:
    One of them will work.
You need to remove the hard drive connector interface that connects the hard drive to the motherboard.
This thing pulls off the drive. You should be using a SATA to usb notebook hard drive enclosure.

  • How to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000 ?

    Hello!
I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, with a 32-bit Vista business, 2 processors of Genuine Intel with 1.73GHz each, and only 1GB of RAM.
I would like to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but I don't know if that's possible, and/or how to do that. I hope you guys can help me.
    Thanks.

We need to know the exact model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can then just check by model number with Crucial at crucial.com to check max memory specs. Some of the dv6000s max at 2 gigs as you likely already know. 2 gigs is dirt cheap and would be a major improvement. With 32 bit Vista even if you install 4 gigs only 3 will be available for Windows to use. So 2 gigs is your best bet anyway. The difference between 1 gig and 2 is huge, the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible, in my opinion.

  • Problem swapping Display Assembly on HP Pavilion dv6000

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000, Windows Vista.  It has a stuck pixel producing a red line on my screen.  Fortunately, I have another dv6000 with a bad motherboard that I can cannibalize for parts.  Unfortunately, I am stuck on trying to remove the Display Assembly.
Specifically, in the Maintenance and Service Guide, on page 5-34, the book says to remove the two screws holding the display assembly.  The screws are in the corner, so I removed all four screws.  However, the display assembly will not budge from the computer.  Also, on page 5-35, the book says to disconnect the display cable.  I cannot figure out how to do that.  It will not budge.  Further, it says to remove the microphone cable.  The only other cable that is next to the display cable is the cable that was connected to the switch cover.
Can someone give me some guidance on this?  I would really appreciate it.  Thanks!

    Hi:
    1. Install this driver for the coprocessor.  If it does not install the driver automatically, manually install it as follows:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55781-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Go to the device manager and click on the coprocessor needing the driver.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.
Select the browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.  That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp37730.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.  Then reboot.
2 & 3. Install this driver for the base system devices (card reader).
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55777-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    4. No such thing.  All BIOS flashes must be run in Windows and only with the supported operating system (Vista).
If you make any attempt to flash the BIOS when running any other operating system but Vista, you can take your notebook straight to the trash bin.
    5. Your notebook is not supported by HP for W7, W8 or W8.1, so I imagine there is a driver problem of some kind or another with which I would not be able to help you with as there is probably no solution to it.
You can try manually installing the Vista graphics driver from your notebook's support page in the remote chance that may get the hdmi to work properly.
    6. Video adapter upgrades can't be done.
