No sound on HP Pavilion H8-1212 Desktop PC

My sound has been working fine but all of a sudden stopped working.  I have since checked all settings in control panel.  Nothing is muted. All volume levels are up.  I have tried all other jacks, with speakers and headsets, both of which I verified to be working in other devices.  I tried using the troubleshoot audio playback feature.  I tried using a windows system restore to several different points.  I enabled and disabled beats audio.  I eventually did a complete system recovery to factory settings.  Nothing seems to be working.  Is this a hardware issue?
The devices under device manager include ``AMD High Definition Audio Device`` and ``IDT High Definition Audio Codec``
When I am testing sound by playing music through windows media player, I can see the green sound levels rising and falling as the sound should be playing although there is no sound being outputted.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Further, while running the Troubleshoot Audio Playback feature (Windows 7 64 bit) the only 2 options I get are Speakers/Headphones - IDT High Definition Audio Codec (connector located on front of computer) and Communications Headphones - IDT High Definition Audio Codec (connector located on front of computer).
There is no option for the device/jack on the rear of the computer.  This considered, the front jack does not work either.

  • Suddenly no sound coming from HP Pavilion 500-339 Desktop

I've had this computer less than a month without any issues. From a couple days ago there is no sound coming from any source (various speakers, headphone jack directly into computer).
I have checked everything, i.e., checked all the external cables, used the Windows diagnostics and checked all sound devices, volume settings, checked for mute etc. No issues have been detected with the audio hardware and drivers.
I've also done a system restore, removed recent Windows updates (within the week), uninstalled and reinstalled the IDT high-def audio drivers and still nothing.  Every time I do a diagnostic it says the audio is working properly yet no sound comes out for anything.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello @Brian13,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that your audio on your HP Pavilion 500-339 Desktop PC is not working. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which you can use to restore your computer back to a point in time where your sound worked correctly.
If the Microsoft System Restore does not resolve your sound issue I would like you to use the HP Support document: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8) to put the original audio driver back in your computer. As this is the driver that came with your computer it should work correctly.
If the above steps do not fix your sound issue I think we should try a backup and recovery of your computer. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.

    HP Pavilion p7-1423w Desktop PC
Did an upgrade to windows 8.1 and suddenly my sound driver has a big yellow triangle, was trying to get the driver for my model but after downloading I got an error message (9996) If somebody can give me any direccion, Thanks

    Hi:
    See if this works...
Download the audio driver again but don't run it.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-124030-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Then download and install this free file utility.
    http://7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip, right click on the audio driver file and select 7-Zip from the menu.
Select 7-Zip to Extract to: and I let it extract the file into the file name of the folder.
After you have done this, go to the device manager and click on the problem audio device.
Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software, and browse to the driver folder that was created by 7-zip.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
You may have to reboot the PC after the driver is installed.

  • HP Pavilion P7-1225 Desktop Freezes After Startup. Frustrated!

    Hi,
My family's HP Pavilion P7-1225 desktop computer freezes a few moments after startup, most times. However, it will occasionally work just fine for hours and then suddenly lock up. Over the weekend a sort of clicking sound was heard followed immediately by the freeze. Restarted a few times, heard noise, got lock up. We're not hearing the noise now but it's still freezing up.
We have yet to talk to HP Support about it, but no other professional has been able to solve it (and we have had many try). Please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Leo

    Hi Leo,
Many things could be causing your issue.  Intermittent freezes can be very difficult to solve.  Since so many professionals have already tried to solve your issue then it's probably time to contact HP Support.  As such, I am not going to suggest what has probably already been suggested and/or tested.
I don't know if you are using an UPS but transient changes in line voltage (too low or even too high) will often times cause a failover and clicking noises (relay closing and opening) with some UPSs will be heard.  I hear clicks from my UPS at times even though the lights don't flicker.  A poor or faulty UPS could cause issues like you are experiencing.  You might also having an electrican check the circuits in your house.  You might want to isolate your PC equipment off circuits that might have high current start up devices that might cause local voltage surges.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC power on/start windows issue

HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC, Windows 7 Pro.  When powered on (using the power switch), the blue power light and amber hard drive lights on the front illuminate, but monitor shows no signal and the keyboard lights do not come on.  F10 on the keyboard doesn't bring anything up on the screen either.  Sounds like there is hard drive activity, but the amber light does not flash.  If I put a bootable dvd in the drive, it appears to read the dvd, but does not boot from it (nothing appears on the monitor.)  Monitor, keyboard and mouse have been verified operational.  Hard drive data appears to be intact and have verified 12v and 5v operational from power supply.  Haven't found a place to verify 3v power.  Depressing the power switch does not turn the computer off, only way is to unplug the power cord.  This sympton happened a couple of weeks ago, but after several power cycles, it booted fine and worked for a while.  Not this time, though.

    HI JIMINFL:
How was your weekend, I  hope  it was super!
I understand that when you boot up, you get a blank screen. • CD/DVD drive is no longer working on my HP Pavilion Slimline s3720y desktop

Hi!  I am having problems with my HP desktop computer and wonder if  someone can help me solve this issue.
My CD/DVD drive is no longer working on my HP Pavilion Slimline s3720y desktop. When I tried to test my CD/DVD drive  to ensure it it was working properly , When I clicked to open Hardware Diagnostic Tools and it said "The software program is not found".  The CD/DVD drive was working but will not respond or recognize that a disk is in the drive.  It states insert disk in drive.  Where are my diagnostic tools that are missing?

    Hi,
Your Seagate update CD is to update the firmware for Seagate hard drives.
Did you try the tips in the post that I referenced above?
Error 31 indicates that the driver is not installing correctly.
Go to Device Manager, locate the CD/DVD drive, open up the CD/DVD drive, double click, click on the Driver tab, then uninstall the driver. Now reboot your PC and Windows will re-install the driver.

  • HP Pavilion p7-1102 Desktop PC Windows 8 64 bit unable to shut down

I have an  HP Pavilion p7-1102 Desktop PC, which I purchased with Windows 7. After upgrading to Windows 8, the computer will no longer shut down under any circumstances, it seems. I am currently running Windows 8 64-bit, and previously I was running Windows 7 64-bit. I did not do a clean install, I upgraded to Windows 8 using an upgrade disc. Here's what I've tried so far to try and get the computer to shut down:
"Shut Down" in the charms menu
    "Restart" in the charms menu
Holding shift and pressing "Shut Down" in the charms menu
Holding shift and pressing "Restart" in the charms menu
    Using command prompt "shutdown /s /t 00"
Disabling hybrid startup and trying all of these again
None of this has caused the computer to shut down at all. I've also gotten no error messages, the computer simply does nothing whenever I try to shut it down. All I can get the computer to do is hibernate. Everywhere I've searched, I've seen these options and they haven't helped me get my computer to shut down. There is nothing else wrong with my PC, I keep up with Windows updates, have anti-virus protection, and have had no other problems with Windows 8. This problem began happening immediately after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.
Does anyone know of any other methods that might help the computer shut down? I'm at a loss!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
If you have tried all fast boot and hybrid boot options then try this:
Make sure to create a restore point before performing this step...
Press Win+R and type Regedit => Click OK to open the registry editor
Go to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager
Once opened, on the right side , check for "BootExecute" entry. Double-Click on it.
Delete all of its "Value Data" part and write the following into it:
autocheck autochk * and press OK.
Now, "RESTART" (Do Not Click SHUTDOWN) your computer
After it restarts, press SHUTDOWN button and check if it works..
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • HP Pavilion P7-1439 Desktop no longer displaying

I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion P7-1439 Desktop 2 months ago and all was working perfectly fine until today.
I was using it this afternoon before work, and left it on assuming it would go to sleep naturally.
When I came back to it this night the computer would wake out of sleep mode, but the monitor wouldn't. After rebooting the computer there was no change. I switched out the DVI cable for a VGA and the monitor was still not getting a signal.
To make sure it wasn't the monitor, I plugged my monitor into my laptop and it worked perfectly fine (the VGA did, I don't have a DVI port on my laptop).
I have tried unplugging everything while off and replugging them in to no avail. I don't know what else I can do if I can't get the computer to display anything.
What could be the issue here? It seems like a hardware malfunction, but I don't know what could have happened in the 5 hours between uses.

    Hello,
Your PC has an integrated video card so it might be a hardware problem yes.
Before we can say that 100%, try to do the following, remove the power cord from the unit and remove the side panel. Then look for the memory modules and remove them and insert them back on their slots. Take out the CMOS battery as well leave it out, then keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds.
Then, reconnect the external power cord and leave the CMOS out, and power on the display without the VGA cable. Then, connect it after 1 minute and see if you have display. If not, then shutdown the unit and start it up again and see what happens. If no display after this, probably its a hardware issue and you will need to have the system board replaced.
If the issue persisted, try to see if you can arrange a PCIe video card, just to test the unit and see if you have video. You can try to do one more thing, just change the memory modules from their slots to the other empty ones ok?
Let me know the outcome of this tests.

  • Blue Screen crashes on new HP Pavilion P7-1235 Desktop system

I set up a new HP Pavilion P7-1235 desktop system running Windows 7 64-bit on Tuesday. Since the initial setup, the system has crashed at least 10 times. The Blue Screen shows STOP: 0x0000001E (000000000,00000000,00000000,00000000) - all zeroes for all parameters. Though no other error or crash code appears on the Blue Screen, I used the utility BlueScreenView to look at a couple of minidumps. The error code KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and the module identified was NTOSKRNL.EXE in a couple of dumps and HAL.DLL in others. I would appreciate any help in determining the cause of the problem and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

  • HP Pavilion P2-1013w Desktop PC - UEFI Install with WIndows 8.1 Pro RTM causes hang

I have an HP Pavilion P2-1013W Desktop PC with the UEFI enabled bios.
With Windows 8.1 Pro RTM Build (MSDN Download available now from Microsoft - Released September 17th 2013 - Again,. this is 8.1, a.k.a. Windows Blue RTM)
SATA Mode is set to AHCI
    BIOS is UEFI Enabled
I boot from the Windows 8.1 Pro USB Installation Media using the UEFI: USB Storage option, Windows Setup starts. I get to the partitions screen, remove the partitions then click New. Windows Setup creates the 4 Partitions (Recovery, MSR, System and Primary) as expected.
When I click Next and Setup begins to copy files, the system locks up. The mouse pointer stops moving, keyboard is unresponsive, and it will sit at 0% for as long as it's left on.
After checking, Microsoft makes a few notes about the requirements. Setup will not run if the OS does not match the UEFI 'bitness'. If this were the issue, I would get a text-mode message about it being the wrong architecture. I don't get that. I get the install wizard, so it is supported.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824898.aspx Has more information.
And I suspect this is a version problem as the original Windows 7 install was a UEFI install, not Legacy. It appears the BIOS firmware I have installed is not compatible with Windows 8.1.
Will an update be made available? Or will I have to revert to WIndows 7 UEFI, and upgrade?

  • HP Pavilion p7-1227c Desktop PC gives a bluescreen when I plug a USB 3.0 Drive in

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1227p desktop that has USB 3.0 plugs on the back of the computer next to the audio I/O.  Our IT department had to upgrade my machine to Windows 764 pro (it came with home) and in order to do this (they said our liscense would not work) they had to do a whole new upload, drivers and all.  I only recently found that this machine offered 3.0 and when I tried to plug in, I immediately got a blue screen.
I had previouse installed a renasis 3.0 pci card but could never get it to work.  In retrospect, there may have been a driver conflict, so I took the card out.  When I tried plugging a 3.0 device (which works fine on other machines or as 2.0 USB) and immedately got a blue screen again.
Does this mean I have a hardware problem, or do I still have some type driver conflict.  If so, what do I do.  My IT department is useless in solving problems like this.  I usually have to do it myself, so please keep it simple.

Here are the specs for the HP Pavilion p7-1227c Desktop Computer. Here is the the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for this model. Additionally, drivers can be downloaded directly from the various IC chip manufactuters (AMD, Atheros, Ralink, etc.).
Has your IT Dept. properly installed the OS and all necessary drivers??? Are there "unknown" devices listed in the Window Device Manager??? Do the company policies allow you to do IT class work on company computers? I would check with IT or the company policy manual as this is typically a voilation of computer security policies.
