No sound on import

I've just upgraded to Macbook pro and Final Cut 6 - so now when I begin to import I'm not getting any sound. I see in the Capture preset it says "speakers off" - where can I change that? I know this happened before but it's been so long ago that I can't remember what I did.
Thanks in advance...

I'd be careful about this too. You don't need your processors working overtime pumping out sound you can easily monitor off the deck. I say more chance for something to go wrong during capture. But then again... maybe that's old school. G3 old school. But still -- why not just monitor off deck?

  • No sound during import from camcorder

When I am importing video from a DV tape in a camcorder I don't hear any sound. After the clip is captured, you can hear the sound during playback. Is there a setting that allows you to hear the sound during import? I have tried importing HDV format from a camcorder and regular DV from a tape deck with the same results.

iMovie does not play sound on import. This makes sense if you consider that most current camcorders do not import in real time. They are faster or slower than real time depending on the speed of the Mac.
See if your camera has a speaker. You can listen from the camcorder.

  • IMovie 8: No sound while importing

Can anyone tell me the reason why iMovie 8 has no audible sound when importing via firewire from a camera. iMovie6 had the option and I don´t see any reason why iMovie 8 lost it.
Overall I´m not sure if I should have made the move anyway as iMovie 6 seems to be better organised and easier to use. maybe it has something to do with a learning curve but currently I´m not completely happy with the update.
    Am I alone?
    best regards

+Probably to keep from confusing users with its need to "stop & go" for most captures. I.e., MPEG-2 an HDV captures must be converted to AIC so the content is most likely imported as "packets" -- read source to fill a buffer, convert what is in the buffer, save the converted file data, and start all over again. Since audio would be broken, most users would probably either complain that iMovie was "broken" or want Apple to figure a way to fix this without having to purchase huge external drives to hold "one-shot" conversions, so I assume Apple simply decided to avoid the problem altogether by by not even attempting to play audio during the capture process. Besides, it save CPU which can be better used in converting the video content which some people already complain about taking too long even though the HD work flow is already trying to push 6-7 times as much data (i.e., when decompressed) as they did with simple DV captures of SD content.+
Sounds reasonable to me. It´s not a showstopper as I can listen to the audio on my camcorder instead. Just found the way iMovie 6 handles it more comfortable
+There is nothing to prevent you from using either or both for any given project.+
Fair enough. But I paid 80 EUR (> 100$)for the update and this is a little expensive just to use the old version.
+It requires a change in "mind set." Programmers will likely be more comfortable with the "modular" nature of the new iLife software whereas "process" oriented individuals will find the old way of editing more "natural." Mentally "ambidextrous" users will probably switch back and forth between the two without a second thought about the matter.+
Not sure about that. I made a complete mind (re)set years ago when switching from OS9 to OSX (which made sense). I understood the move from G5 to Intel (which made sense) with all the problems caused by it. But I´m not sure if I want to follow programmers who´s idea is to automate everything and disturb the workflow by clotting a programm with additional windows only to obsessively have all the files on your computer visible in one place. Not sure if this is an improvement (at least not for me)
BTW: Reading the online manual helped a lot and I´m partly happy with the programm now. Maybe it´s because the programms get more and more complex or I´m just getting older but reading the manual was something for windows users. Now there is some need for it for us too

  • No sound when importing video

I am importing video into iMovie using a Canon Elura 85. The DV port does not work on the camera, so I have a cable with 3 RCA plugs on the end that goes from the camera's AV port that connects to my Canopus. I plugged two of the RCA plugs into the Left and Right audio ports on the Canopus, and one RCA plug into the video port. I am able to see the video image show up in iMovie's import screen, but there is no sound. How can I solve this? Thanks.

iMovie does not play sound on import. Most cameras that iMovie supports do not import in real time, so sound is not meaningful. It could be useful for those with tape based cameras, but these cameras usually have a speaker so you can hear it on the camera.

  • No sound after importing mpeg from imovie

Hello, i'm new to IMovie and i have the problem that all my video files made with my photocamera loose the sound when i import them into Imovie. the FAQ's tell me it is because they are in mpef-muxed structure. Can anybody help me with the solution on HOW to get my movies with sound into Imovie ???

I have exactly the same problem and took your advice, downloading MPEG stream clip. But it is not clear to me how to do this.
Previously I dragged the MPEG clips from iPhoto ( which played fine in QT with sound) into my iMovie and there was no sound ( as the OP describes).
So if you could spell out the exact procedure, I would be most grateful

  • No sound when importing from a Sony HDR-HC7

    Hello all together,
I bought a new Sony HDR-HC7, the camera is fantastic. There is only one thing perplexing me: When importing HD-Clips into iMovie HD 6.0.3 I cannot hear the sound that was recorded by the camera. When I play the clips, I can hear sound. What could this be?
With my old Sony TVR 33 (no HDV) I don't have this problem.
    Did I forget any settings?
    Thanks for advices,
    Stefan

    Hi Stfan:
I guess I would try the easy things first.
Make certain that " Video Play Through Camera " is
not enabled in imovie Preferences. That is
because it sends all audio through the FireWire port
and mutes it on the computer.
ake certain your video is 16-bit audio (not 12-bit).
Once you have imported (and saved) the video into
imovie, close imovie. Then unplug all firewire
    devices (camera included).
Relaunch imovie. Is the audio there now?
    Sue
    Hi Sue,
thank you for your advice. As I use the German version I am not quite sure, if "Video Play Through Camera" is in the third tab of the iMovie-Prefs the fourth checkbox overarm? This one's unenabled. Audio is 16-bit.
Audio was alwas there in the play-mode but not in the import-mode.

  • How do I fix sound not importing properly from a Fuji video capture (MPEG, 48000 compressed) on Premier Elements 11 (just imports chopped noise)?

Can anyone help?  When I add .Mov MPEG video file captured with a Fuji camera (1920x1080 image, 29.97 frame rate, 48000Hz stereo compressed sound), although the video is smooth/good, the sound gets added but its just a clipped noise rather than the actual sound track.  The video & sound play fine on all other software on my PC, even if just play the file using Adobe Organizer, BUT Premier will not import it correctly....help...

    Please give us more information.
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? When you view and listen to the playback of the Timeline video in the Edit area monitor, are you working with the rendered or unrendered Timeline?
What is the model/settings of the Fuji camera that recording the video? The settings seem to be for 1080 but is that 1080i or 1080p?
Are you saying that your video has a .mov file extension? What is the significance of MPEG video - I am thinking in terms of video compression? AVCHD, H.264, MotionJPEG, or other for video compression?
What are you or the project setting as the project preset to match the properties of the source video?
(See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if they look grayed out.)
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? If you go into Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, do you see all the QuickTime presets? Please explore Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings Input as well as Output.
We will be watching for your progress.

  • Problem with sound when import from Premiere into After Effects

    Hi!
I imported a sequence from a Premiere Pro project using File -> Import -> Adobe Premiere Project...
The video in the sequence showed up in the After Effects project as a composition.  However, the composition did not include the sound from the sequence!  Is there a way to keep the sound from the sequence upon import into After Effects?
    Thanks

i`m sorry about the screenshot size, but i could only upload pics with 605 px width.
Nevertheless it seems that you saved my day. looks like it was all about the scale to framesize thing.
    thank you so much!!!!

  • Fuzzy sound from imported cd

I imported a cd recently, it was really slow importing and when it finally finished the sound was fuzzy and distorted. I've tried playing the cd on a cd player and it was fine, I also tried playing it with windows media player and it was fuzzy on that too. I don't think the problem is with my disc drive as I've tried other cds and they've been fine. I'm using itunes version 11.2.2.3. Any help would be highly appreciated! (the cd is Biffy Clyro - Puzzles if that's relevant)

(the cd is Biffy Clyro - Puzzles if that's relevant)
    Honor7,
Yes, that is relevant.  Biffy Clyro is on Roadrunner Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers.
There have been many reports of CDs from the Warner Brothers Group that play OK but will not rip properly, apparently as a result of anti-copying technology.
If it is a recent purchase, return it to the retailer and insist on a refund.  If the retailer tries to have a conversation about copy protection, blah, blah, blah, do not engage.  You paid for it, it does not rip, it is defective.
If it is too old to return, try ripping it in a Mac (which sometimes succeeds where Windows fails) or in a stronger ripping program than iTunes, such as Exact Audio Copy.

  • No sound when importing AVCHD MTS files into premiere cs5.5

    Hello
I have footage that was shot with the sony nx sf-100 and it is ACVHD mts files.
when I import the files to the bin, it is being imported without sound (no sound track at all when dragged into the timeline).
The footage has sound - that has been confirmed.
I am working in an AVCHD sequence and I'm importing the files using the media browser.
There are many refrences to this problem online - but all give the solution of recompresing the videos in a new format, although every documentaion cliams that premiere is supposed to take AVCHD natively including sound.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks,
    Oded

My apologies. I beleive I mixed up my versions for support. 5.5.x should support PCM audio. Thank you, Jeff.
I have confirmed that I am indeed getting audio with files from a Sony NEX FS-100 camera, with CS5.5.2 on my systems. Oded, would it be possible to send me a sample file that exhibits this issue for you?
Things to try are deleting your Media cache (Preferences > Media > Media Cache Database, click Clean button). Make certain that your copy of Premiere Pro is activated: check under Help menu you should see "Deactivate..." noted.
    Thank you.

  • No Sound on Imported Clips

I often copy video clips from the internet using Quicktime. The downloaded Clips play fine using QT Player or Preview, but when I drag the clips to IMovie to edit them for burning to a disk, there is no sound. The video plays fine in IMovie, but there is no sound. Any suggestion on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

QuickTimeKirk I wonder if you can help. I had the same problem with no sound so I used MPEG Streamclip to convert my MPEG file. The problem is that now that I have sound, when I import my new .mov file into iMovie to edit it the movie is now distorted like super panoramic effect. They play OK however in QT with no problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • No sound in imported photobooth videos into imovie

Very frustrated, as I need to edit my photobooth videos in imovie. I can import them with no problems, but for some reason there is no sound in the videos when I import them into imovie - although there is sound when I use a diferent video converter and in garage band for example, but imovie seems not to recognise the audio in these videos.
Please help as I urgently need to edit these videos for a deadline and I can't do anything with them in imovie at the moment.
    Advice greatfully recieved.
    Many thanks

    What version of iMovie?
    What Device?
Have tried to restart, soft reset your device?
What is the video audio source?

  • No Sound with imported divx avi's

Although I can find no reference to this in this forum, it appears to be a common problem. I am using latest Premiere Pro and latest divx codex, so I am at a lost as to why I cannot hear sound and what to do to resolve same.

    >find no reference to this in this forum
I guess the search engine stopped working the day you looked... there are literally hundreds of messages concerning divx problems
Based on reading a LOT of problem reports, importing files from a DVD camcorder or other MPEG device, or trying to edit divx, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
You should also use WAV sound files, not the compressed MP3 format
The only SD (Standard Def) files that Premiere really likes are DV AVI type 2
Go to my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
Click the internal link for editing compressed files... read, there are some ideas & links there, including some links to other programs that have been mentioned in the Premiere forum as being better suited to editing MPG files
If you only have DVD type files, you should convert to DV AVI or use different software... go to the VideoHelp link in my notes and look for a program to convert... but do be aware that converting from a HIGHLY compressed viewing format back to an editing format is going to cause a drop in quality

  • No sound from imported sequence

I am new to using Encore, and just trying to get a quick start from watching several Lynda.com videos.  I imported an mp4 as a timeline, and no problem with the sound.  But I imported a sequence as a timeline and there is no sound when I play the movie.  Thank you for any help.

Stan, I don't know. How would I know?  I decided however to produce the video's as .m2v format, and imported on as a timeline then the audiofile and that seems ok, so I will go it that way.
    Thank you for your imput.
