No sound on Iphone 4 after 7.1.2

Dear Apple, you have turned my Iphone 4 into a very disappointing phone. I just updated to 7.1.2 and now I haven't any sound from my speakers, bluetooth, or when connected with the cable. I have tried resetting, reloading 7.1.2, doing a load to factory without a backup but no luck. So do I just need to pitch the phone a pay for another because of your software screw up?

Hi im a newbie here and i recently bought an iphone from a friend (wahh i know i should have bought it legitly but i wasnt paying that price sorry),
I have a 32 GB Black Iphone 4s and theres a problem.
Yesterday i decided i wanted music on my phone and decided to sync my phone to my itunes and computer..
But lets backtrack first... Earlier in the day i decided to plug a (non iphone heaphone into the headphone port) and much to my ssureprise it worked (all ive ever dealt with is blackberry) unplugged the headphones and a few hours later this is where i synced my phone tried to play music an GASP nothing..in the music app the volume nubs are gray and cannot be moved left or right and no sound is being heard.. also when i tried to check to see if my ringer was going up and down it was displaying the little speaker but not the bar that moves. Read the discussions here and it seemed that we've all been screwed now i love my iphone and all its features only phone ive ever wanted but i would love this to be fixed.
I have tried:
Restting all setting
Hard Reset
Restore
Restore from back
Changing everything imaginable in Setting and nothing has worked
Making a voicenote and i actually got sound and my ringer started to work! YAY right.. WRONG
Cleaning it with nail polish removeer
Brushing it with a brush
Using a paperclip and scraping it
*i did find some fluff but it came out*
After a few futile attempts at trying to play videos and games with sound and getting nothing i have decided its time to put my tail inbetween my legs and hope that someone can help.
Im not sure if was the type of headphones that i used or hat but i need help
PLEASE REPLY I NEED MUSIC
I AM ALSO A YOUTUBER AND FILM OFF MY IPHONE AND I NEED TO HEAR WHAT **** I AM TALKING AT THE END OF A VIDEO
THANK YOU

  • No media sound on iPhone 4 after 7.0.3

I too have no media sound on my iPhone 4 after 7.0.3 upgrade:
I know the speaker works- i can hear sound from it on speakerphone, voicemail, and voice memo apps
However, using any of the following, I get no sound (and hitting the volume buttons on the side simply brings up ringer volume - not app volume)
quicktime videos (internet based and on my phone)
    netflix
    garageband
    quicktime
i have unsuccessfully tried the following fixes:
locked / unlocked the "side buttons" control volume
    performed a settings > general > reset
a button reset (holding home and power buttons)
performed a complete reinstall of ios and restored my phone

I had this problem since the 7.0.3 update. I searched everywhere and nothing, the solutions gived were not working in my case. So, i did a lot of tests and tried everything. One single trick seemed to be working, but it's not a permanent solution, unfortunately.
    1. You must go and deactivate Siri.
    2. Restart the iPhone / iPad.
    3. After restart, go and activate Siri.
    4. Lock the iPhone / iPad.
    5. Bring Siri and ask her / him a question (if you are hearing the "beep" from Siri and it will answer to you, you are good, if not, try to repet the process again).
Again, this is not a permanent solution, sometimes lasts 3 days, sometimes one day.
I do not know yet why is this happening, but it's not related to applications (in my case).
Waiting for the next update to resolve this.

  • Plzzzzz help with  NO SOUND ON IPHONE 4 after upgrade to iOS 5.1.1

Previously I have ios 5.0.1 on iPhone 4, recently I upgrades to iOS 5.1.1 . After some hours I noticed that my phone is just vibrating, not ringing. I checked the orange button, tried all cleaning procedures. No music, no lock sounds, nothing from the internal speakers. But, when I connected to earphones I can hear music normally. Without earphones just no sounds. I restore lot of times, but no sound again. I think the problem with iOS 5.1.1. Guys plzzzzzz solve this......... I searched all the day in google, but I didn't find any proper solution .

Have you checked your apps so that there is no apps overriding the output audio like lock sound etc.
Om my 4S, if I forget quiting spotify and it is running without sound in the background it will disable lock sound etc.
This is just an example and spotify do not disable important sounds like ringing and alarms etc.
But maybe a app is malfunctioning after upgrading to ios 5.1.1
Also you could try restoring the phone like sugested by others in iTunes.

  • No sound on Iphone 4S after pulling headpones, how can this be solved?

    Hi all,
I recently bought my Iphone 4s and everything was fine.
However when I pulled out my headset yesterday, there was no sound coming out of my phone.
There is sound when the headphones are plugged in, but when they are removed I can't hear music, video's and games.
    Any one experiencing the same?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi! I had the same issue on my IPhone4. I talked with AppleCare Support and the advisor suggested me to backup and restore the device with ITunes WITHOUT synchronize any app (I had about 30 apps) and now it's working!!!
Then wait some hours and after try to synchronize 5 app to find which one caused the issue.
    Try this way!
I hope I had been helpful!

  • No Sound on iPhone 3gs after upgrade to 3.1.3

    Hi All,
If anyboby elase has seen this problem or knows of a fix, I would appreciate some feedback.
After upgrading my 3gs to 3.1.3 every now and again the sound stops working (i.e. no riniging, no music etc) the only way to fix this is to reboot the phone, and all is well until the next time!

Check in the headphone socket for fluff - people who keep their phones in pockets will often accumulate dust/fluff in there and that messes about the contacts.
When the phone 'goes silent' try plugging in headphones and you may hear something, indicating that the phone thinks it is in headphone mode when its isn't.
Canned air can solve this but be careful - no liquids in case you trip the moisture senors.!

  • No Sound on iPhone 5 After iOS 8 Install

Does anyone know if Apple has come up with a fix for this issue?  I didn't realize until today that this soundlessness extended to music, as I usually wear headphones or am plugged into my car.  As a matter of fact, the volume bar is greyed-out when I play a song via the phone's speakers.
    Thanks!

I have the same freaking problem! It just happened 30 minutes ago, sound completely disappeared. No sound for incoming calls ringing or while talking, Alarm, keytone, anything. Only time it has the sound is when you're on an actuall call and you switch it to speaker. I just googled updates about this and up to 10 more comments showed up from today and yesterday that just got the same problem. I think it's about iOS8.

I have a similar problem, but after following your suggestion of deleting my iphone backup and then turning backup back on again, I needed to plug my phone into my computer to sync the backup.  I re-tried to do an icloud backup and it again told me that  "the last backup could not be completed"... since I had deleted the backup, it says the "Last backup:  never".  Ugh. I reconnected my iPhone 4S to my computer and iTunes so I could sync my phone and do a backup... it's still "waiting for sync to start"...
For your iCloud backup, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
If you turned iCloud backup off and try to sync to create a backup on your computer and got a "waiting for sync to start" error, it may be caused by a corrupt backup on your computer.  You could try deleting your last backup by opeing iTunes and going to Preferences>Devices, clicking on your last backup and clicking Delete Backup.  Then try again.

  • Receiver (ear speaker) not working on iPhone 5 after updating to iOS 7

Since upgrading to iOS 7 (or 7.0.2) the receiver on my iPhone seems to have stopped working.
I don't make / receive many voice calls - so not sure exactly when problem started.
Every call I have received in the last 2 days has been silent, where the person calling me can hear my voice, but I cannot hear them.
Also there is no sound when I make a call.
Prior to this most recent calls have been silent at first, with the sound only kicking in after 5-10 seconds.
I can turn speakerphone on - which works.
I have performed the folowing to try to fix the problem:
    1) Restarted phone
    2) Reset all settings
    3) Restored from backup
I've checked mute switch, tried volume buttons and ensured airplay is set to iPhone.
I managed to make the receiver work again by wiping all settings and content, then setting up as a new phone.
However I do not want to lose all the content, settings, app data saved on my phone, so this is not really an option.

Yes I have done this 4 times, I am sorry I should've been more clear in the information I provided but thanks for replying

  • Problems with sound from external speakers after iOS 5.0.1 update

Have others experienced problems with external speakers on the Iphone 4 after iOS 5.0.1 update?  My phone no longer rings, sounds when i receive a text message, sounds alarm, etc.  Vibrate works fine and when i plug in headphones I can hear music through the headphones.  Any fixes for this?

    Hi Guys,
I have post eariler on another forum and I have the same problem, I have tried all the things listed here and nothing was perminant in fixing this painful iphone hating problem.... and failed.  You probably have the problem when you use youtube or your music external speaker that there is no volume bar and no sound.   I have had the same problem But I need to happily say that I now have the fix!!!!  This worked for me and I fixed it by myself so you don't need to go to apple or service centre or anything.
Ok I like so many of you here truly believed this was as IO5 issue as it only dropped the sound on the speakers once that IO5 update came along.  I tried a bunch of reset, reboots, home clicks, lock and unlocks, to fix this and all failed.  some worked for an hour but then failed.  hours of my life that I will never get back.   but since I have learnt this is not a IO5 problem but a hardware issue! ...  and in paticualar is has to do with your bottom connection.  Your phone is thinking it is docked all the time.
To fix the no sound problem what you need is...
    1.  a torch
    2.  a tooth brush
    3.  methalated spirits
    4. a butter knife
    Step 1.
get your torch and shine it down the bottom connection plate to see what kind of dust, sand, hair or anything you have stuck in there.   all that need to be removed!  everything!  it might look clean but still thats ok go to step 2.
    step 2.
Turn on your music app and put the speakers on!  If your phone is like mine it should not work.  you most probably don't even have the volume display to turn it on but its ok, just do it! and it should still play with no sound.   its important you try and run the speakers as this will show you that it is a hardware problem.
    step 3.
Dip your tooth brush into some methated sprits.   then at your sink tap the exess metho out of your brush as you just want the brushes to be slightly damp, not soaking wet and then scrub the bottom connetiors on your iphone.  work the brush back and forward in a way that scoops the dirt out of the phone, not just pushing it side to side.
(As you bushing you should notice the volume bar come back on or off as you scub.   This happened to me and that is how I realised I was on the right track to fixing this problem as I was doing something external that was actually controling when the volume display came on or off.   but once I cleaned it this still didn't fix the problem...)
    Step 4.
Use the back side of a butter knife (not the sharp side) to gently slide over the connectors on the iphone.  Do this gently as you are only pushing down on the tiny metal contect bars and you should notice the volume display come on again.  slide it back and forward.  Now the area of interest is about 2/3 along the connection plate to the right.   This is the area that has the infomation sent when your iphone thinks its docked.
This has worked for me and I have not had a problem since I did this 2 weeks ago.   I have since learnt that the new IOS 5 has activated a different part of the bottom conectors.  if you have been using dodgy connectors or unapproved apple cables (as I was)  any damage or hair and dirt on the terminal this is effecting it.  Try it.   just remember if you can do something external to your phone then there lies the problem.
Hope this works for your phone as it did for mine.
    Cheers

Check Settings > General > Restrictions, and check out Contacts toward the bottom under the privacy restrictions.
That sounds like the probable cause you cannot add contacts.
Regarding the iCloud behavior, that sounds like it got huge (35,000) because of incorporating other contacts (from social media, perhaps).  Also contacts sync has nothing to do with iCloud behavior.  The whole idea of keeping your contacts in the cloud is that once you change them on one device, they change everywhere.  Specific syncs are not relevant.

  • I have the IPhone 4 , after updating the software to version 5.0 , i can't edit my contacts, is it only from my device or the updated software should be adjusted?

I have the IPhone 4 , after updating the software to version 5.0 , i can't edit my contacts anymore(the button edit doesn't exist anymore), is it only from my device or the updated software should be adjusted?

That's exactly right.  And since you have a MacBook Air (as I do), that means the synching should occur just fine (if you've set it up right in iTunes).  In other words, once you actually do the update, the iTunes on your MacBook Air will re-sync your photos back to your iPhone.
Basically, the process is that your iPhone gets backed up, wiped clean, then the new iOS version gets installed, then the backup gets restored.  That will restore everything in the article above, which does not include your photos.  But the sync process that happens after the iOS installation would restore your photos from iPhoto given you've set it up that way in iTunes.
When you have your iPhone plugged into iTunes, while looking at the iPhone's summary page, click "Photos" on the right side of iTunes to see how you have your sync set up.
Regardless, it sounds like you'll be fine!  Your photos will wind up in iPhoto once you place them there.  They will be safe there.
