No sound on K7T Tuerbo2

Just installed K7T Turbo2 using 1700XP never had any sound (using on board audio). Nothing on case speaker or headphone or speaker jacks.
Downloaded latest drivers and Bios, did not help!

Hi Gerdjo,
You may start with reading the troubleshooting guide at the top of the page - in particular the part about removing extra stand-offs. Ofte ntrying to run the board out of the case will give good indications whether your problem is relating to shorting also.

  • Choppy sound on K7T Turbo2

Putting together a new system for a friend.  It is based on the MSI K7T Turbo2 MB.   I am using the onboard sound.  But when I play back music or video, the sound is choppy.  It gets worse when I am doing things on system, like opening files or accessing programs.   When I do this, the sound goes into a "slow down mode" as if it does not have enough power to keep up - like it's losing resources.
I am running windows XP pro with athlon xp1800 cpu and 256mb ram.
Any suggestions?  I have tried three different drivers so far (one from windows, one from the cd, and one from the website).
Any suggestions would be most helpfull!   Thanks!

OK!  Just wanted to post back my findings.. as I tried some last few ditch efforts before replacing the board entirely.
Just trying different things moving to hardware, since I didnt think it was software related at this point.  I was thinking hard drive, because of the slow down of the sound while doing other things.  I was thinking of replacing the hard drive and trying, but I thought I would change the IDE port.
I moved the hard drive from IDE0 to IDE1 .. and low and behold!!!  Sound issue fixed!!!   Its flawless now.   Craziest thing I have ever seen!   I still don't know if IDE0 is a bad port or if the system just doesnt like IDE0.. but I dont care at this point.. it works.
    *shakes head*

  • K7T Turbo2 Sound Driver Problem

I just installed a K7T Turbo2 motherboard for my #2 system and am having a problem installing the VIA sound driver.  The system freezes up before it finishes the installation and once I reboot the Device Manager says that since Windows stopped responding when trying to start the device, it wouldn't attempt to start it again.
I've tried new drivers (both sound and chipset), tried reinstalling the drivers a few times, made sure the sound card was active in the BIOS, and even removed a couple of extra spacers from under the mobo so I just have them on the four corners.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    z-man

I think during the course of trying to get it to work, it requested the gm16.dls file.  However, I think I finally got it installed from the Windows disk.  Could this still be causing the problem?
Also, I tried out my SB Live! card from my primary system - the drivers installed and the card worked fine.  I would prefer not to have to buy a seperate sound card, if I can get the on-board one working.
    Thanks again,

  • Strange sound problem on K7T Pro2-A

    Hello,
I have this problem with my onboard soundcard (playing mp3's, cd's, ...):
at normal speakerlevels i can't hear any music, but if i turn my volumeknob way up, i can hear it very faintly.
I checked everything i could think of: the speakers, cabling, volumesettings, reinstalled drivers (soundcard is still detected by WinXP), installed the Audiodrivers from viaarena.com, checked biossettings...
This problem started when i (temporarily) changed my floppydrive for a Zipdrive. I changed the bios just to get rid of the error there's no floppydrive, but nothing else.
I left my case open after i placed the Zipdrive, and because i read on this forum there were some issues with onboard sound & grounding, i closed it again, but to no avail. Now i'm running out of idea's.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    short specs: MSI K7T Pro2-A/AMD TB 1GHz/256MB/40GB + 20GB/Geforce256/CDRW48-12-48/DVD6x
    thanks in advance,
    Sven

    I have a K7T  Pro v.1 BIOS v.3.0, Duron 1200 Mhz with VIA 4 in 1 v.4.38.
i have had some serious problems recently, including the death-led's. After reading the thread in the old forum about the problems with the MS-6330 series I'm getting pretty nervous about the future of my poor MB.
But what i've been wondering about is wether these problems might have something to do with the AGP port and using heavy 3D graphics. I have read that several users have provoked failures when using 3D-screensavers.
My problems seemed to start when i installed an MSI G2mx400 AGP card (replacing a Cardexpert SiS 6326 8Mb PCI card). Using the DirectX Diagnosis tool (v. 8.0 and 8.1) my machine crashes on the 3D-tests. I've also tried an ATI Rage 128 16Mb AGP card with both Win2k and WinXP with exactly the same problem.
After finally getting the four red-leds I tried replacing the CPU with a Duron 600Mhz, but nothing happened so I guess the advice about doing that somewhere earlier in this post doesn't always work... Eventually i managed to wake the system by shorting the CMOS.
After this rescue I have replaced the AGP card with my old PCI card and it seems to be working fine so far. So after all I've been reading about the bad/overheating chips and capacitators and so on, I'm thinking maybe the AGP card could be one of the causes of this?
It would be interesting to hear if anyone has experience with the failure rate of AGP vs PCI...

  • K7T 266 Pro2 sound error

    Hi,
    I have a MSI K7T 266 PRO 2.
Recently, i can´t get sound from the sound card integrated in the motherboard (Realtek AC'97 Audio).
Windows XP recognizes the card in the system options but doesn´t recognize in the audio options (Control Painel). I updated the bios and the audio driver but doesn't work. In the Bios the AC'97 Audio is enable.
what should I do to resolve the problem? Anyone can help me?
    Thanks

Tell us if you have installed hardware lately, that might inflict the sound card. Is it working according to Device Manager? And don't panic. ( Panic leads to massacres.   ) Onboard devices might drop out from time to time, but following the advice you already got, it'll come back eventually.
I might ask those who know, I have heard that Windows always had trouble with sound. Is there any truth in this?

  • K7T Pro V1 sound problems and CPU support

    I have a K7T Pro V1 motherboard.
I can´t use onboard sound, because when I try to locate it (Windows 2000) on Add New Device, appears blue screen and text "Hardware malfunction. Call your hardware vendor for support. The System has halted".
    What I can do? ?(  ?(
I also would like to know why this motherboard does not support Duron Morgan processors only Duron Spitfire -versions?  :(  :(
    Thanks for your help!

I have enabled all in BIOS:
    OnChipSound    Enabled
    OnBoardLegacy Audio    Enabled
    Soundblaster   Enabled
The system does not found new device automatically and when if I try to find new device manually, appears that error message and I have to boot the computer again.
I just wonder is the problem onboard?
    About CPU´s....
Rob454 told "...theyre not officially supporting  the Duron Morgan Cpus".
Does  this mean I can´t use Morgans att all (even 900 or 950)?
I mean does these 900 or 950 Morgans also need SSE support?
And if I´ll try to use for example Morgan 1.2 Ghz does it work att all (or read as Athlon Thunderbird)?

  • K7T Turbo2 sound not working

The serial number for this board is:
    MB VIA KT133A/5p3d K7T Turbo2 MSI
I upgraded my sister's computer for her thinking I was doing her a favor.  Anyway.. to make a really long story short... I live in Georgia and my sister lives in Boston.  I bought all the pieces (including this mobo I mentioned up above) and a new tower and put it all together.  Before I mailed it up to her I hooked it up to my monitor and my boston acoustic desktop speakers.  It worked beautiful... no problems.  I mailed it out to her and she hooked it all up and she has no sound.  I made sure she had it plugged into correct port in the back, and from what she told me she does.  I had her go into the sound settings and make sure nothing was muted and nothing was.  I even had her go into the device manager to see if there were any conflicts.. and there were no exclamation marks indicating any conflicts.
I thought at first that maybe it was disabled, but that can't be the case since it worked just fine when I hooked it up to my monitor and speakers.  Does anyone have any ideas???  She is calling me almost everyday to see if I found out anything and I feel bad, but at the same time she is driving me up the wall nagging me about it.  I need to fix it and it's going to  be difficult considering I am over 1000 miles away.  If I at least had some trouble shooting ideas, I might be able to walk her through it.  I would truly appreciate any help.

    1) make sure she has the speakers plugged into the right plug in the motherboard
2)make sure she has the power turned 'on' on the speakers

  • K7T Turbo R Limited Edition and crackleing sound

I started getting a crackling sound recently. I never had that problem before. The only thing I can think of that I have done that may have started it was to update the bios and the via chipset drivers. I tried to reinstall the 442 drivers (only the pci part) but no change. I reinstalled the 443.
I read in other threads that it could be either a latency problem. Also moving the sblive sound card could do fix the sound. I don’t seem to have any latency timing adjustments in the bios and I tried moving the sound card to number 3 and the number 6 slot with no luck. I have tried a couple of 686 bug fixes and they didn’t work. But I have also read where that wouldn’t work so I removed them.
Is there anything that might work?

    AMD 1800+

  • K7T Turbo Limited Edition - AC97 Sound?!

So, the manual tells me to just pop the CD in after the 4 in 1 driver installation and the Sound Setup should run itself, I should sit back and relax the manuel sez. I do that after the initial reboot from the 4in1 installation. Well, the sound doesnt install itself. Also, the setup menu doesnt even have a install on-board sound option or anything. I started rumaging around on the CD and found the sound files. The question if Which ONE am I supposed to install???!!! I tried both the ones under the VIA folder. They Both tell me that my AC97 is not enabled in the Bios. BUT, I've Enabled the frikkin thing like a thousand times but the setup programs keep telling me that I need to enable the AC97 in the BIOS before they can install.
ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES has the "Onchip Sound" : Auto
INTERGRATED PERIPHERALS has the "Onboard Legacy Audio" : Enabled
    "Sound Blaster" : Enabled
    "MPU-401" : Enabled
So, the audio setup files under the Folders D:/Sound/VIA/VT8233 or MVP4
Keep telling me that I the sound needs to be enabled in BIOS what the heck am I doing wrong??!!
Thanks ahead of time to anyone who can help. ?(

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH....... (SMACKS HIS FOREHEAD) I figured that there was something wrong with the Sound Blaster but I though there was some kind of resource conflict. At least the device manager was telling me there was a Error Code 16 on the Sound Blaster and the thing tells me that I need to manually set resources. But for some reason it wouldn't let me do that either. So I got rid of the Sound Blaster from the Device manager. I am running Win 98 SE.
However the drivers I found on the CD that came with the MoBo are still not installing. It sez that the AC97 sound is not enabled from BIos still and that I need to enable it. I looked all over the manual for the sound jumpers but there is no indication or anything about sound jumpers!!! If you could be a little more specific and tell me where the jumper is??!
    Thanks alot for your help.

  • K7t 266 A Pro 2 RU Sound prob

    Hello,
When i use the AC'97 chipset for soundS or music, i 've got a problem, the sound is going out by one speaker only (the second is quite, and not as "heavy"  as anothere way( like if there are no "mass").
When i use my sound card (16bits sound card (fortissimo II)), then the sound is stereo and good.
do you know why ? is it a motherboard problem or sthg else ?
p.s:i try why pc speakers and Hifi speaker by a hifi amplifier, same result.

Yeah basically the sound card is done for, I tried various things and no sound was coming out whatsoever - yours sounds like one channel is down, I have come across a lot these cases in various pc's where the onboard sound card has died or is in a state of dying....

  • K7T Turbo2 Sound problems

When playing music like MP3's, CD's or windows-sounds it always plays the music/sound with lots off cracking, background noise
I've reïnstalled all the related drivers, updated most of them, with no result. I've tested with other loudspeakers and also with no result.
Could it be, that the build-in sound-hardware on the motherboard  is broken?
Or is it the little jack-connector on the board that give's the noise?
How can I find-test the origin for this sound-issue ????
    Please help me
    [email protected]

    Hi Pietro,
I know you already reinstalled and updated drivers but it might still be a driver problem - you might again fiddle a bit with the drivers ...
Also (have been looking for that, but I cannot find the actual thread), I think I remember someone with comparable problems which were solved after updating the (video!) drivers, so you could end up doing some more updating of drivers (always make sure that you follow the instructions, sometimes the old drivers need to be uninstalled first)...
Sorry that I cannot be more specific at present,

  • K7T Turbo2 onboard sound

can someone please help me get this going?
i'm sure most of my problem is that i don't know exactly what all the bios switches are supposed to do... under Advanced Chipset Features there is "OnChip Sound", and under Integrated Peripherals there is "Onboard Legacy Audio" and "Sound Blaster"...
i've tried disabling everything and removing the audio drivers (i think) in the OS and then enabling them back.  when i try to install the VIA AC97 driver it complains that onboard sound is not enabled.  I'm running win2k and it doesn't look like it is picking it up anymore during it's new hardware searches.
can someone please explain (better than the manual) what different bios options are for?  Is Sound Blaster only if I have a Sound Blaster card? or is there a Sound Blaster "emulator" built into the board or something?
    please help...thanks!

    Hi,
The SB option is for DOS and should NOT be enabled with Win2k.
As it emulates a SB under plain-DOS for DOS-games.
All the others should be enabled.
These settings should be like that on default.
But most of the time when sound won't install the drivers properly it's because some unwanted standoff's are left in the case that should have been removed as there is no hole in the board to put screw into :D
See the trouble guide for this, link below.

  • K7T Pro2 sound problems

I have two problems and either way I do it, there's a problem with the sound on the K7T266 Pro2.
Problem #1:  When I use the onboard sound, I can't install the drivers because it says that it's not enabled in the bios, but I enabled it.  Is there some other place I can enable it, and if so, how do I get to it?
Problem #2:  I put in the Soundblaster Live! PCI card and installed the software (after disabling the sound) and all I get are beeps instead of music or sounds.  Any help would be... helpful.

  • K7T Turbo2 On Board Sound - Need MIDI drivers

While setting up my first MIDI keyboard accompanied with software I run into this error message:
No MIDI input devices. Instal MIDI input drivers.
I was told to instal them using the Drivers Applet in the Control Panel but I can not find such an Applet.
    Brandon

    Ah.........
    This is very confusing.
I don't understand how an Nvidia driver works with a Realtek chip but I will give it a try.  Since we have same board and you are using the driver yourself I can't dispute that it should work.  The only thing that leaves me suspicious is the fact that the sound drivers (4.42) that come with 5.10 drivers did not work at all.  No sound period.
Also, I want to make sure I get rid of the Realtek drivers and software completely.
#1 I go to add/remove programs and select remove Realtek drivers
#2 I run Drivercleaner and select Realtek and hit start
After I do this though, I can go to Windows directory and there is still a ton of those Realtek "crab looking" files all over the place.  I have looked in the start menu for a Realtek entry so I can see if they have included an uninstaller but no joy.  I cna not find a directory entry for Realtek anywhere.  It seems they just reside in the Windows folder all mixed in with the rest of the Windows files.
Am I being too anal..........??  Is removing through add/remove programs and the Drivercleaner good enough??
I am obsessive/compulsive enough to just wipe the HDD out with 1's & 0's and re-install Windows and then all the drivers again but I got my disk a couple years ago with the barebones I ordered from a re-seller and now Microsoft makes me call everytime to validate which is a huge pain in the ass.  Cause I am a quick trigger on the reformat if I muck something up.

  • K7T Turbo Limited Edition HD Max

I currently am running this setup:
K7T Turbo Limited Edition Motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 Ghz, 384MB PC-133, 27.2 GB WD, 40GB Maxtor, Gigabyte 5900XT, MSI 52x Combo, Linksys 10/100 NIC, Sound Blaster Live Audigy2 Limited Edition
I have been over and through the website and I noticed that with the new BIOS which (3.6) the Turbo2 (which I don't have) can run up to a 160GB Hard drive.  I was wondering what the max is for the normal turbo.  My WD 27.2 GB drive is going sour and I want to upgrade to a Seagate 200GB HD, since I plan to use it when I upgrade in January.  Any ideas whether it will work without out major headaches?
