No sound on mac mini with samsung monitor using hdmi

I have a new mac mini which is hooked up through an HDMI cable to a Samsung L2350 monitor.  How can I get sound out of the monitor?  Right now, nothing is coming out.  I've made sure my setting are correct but still no luck.
Please help!

Which Samsung Monitor....?
A Google Search >  Samsung L2350 - Google Search does not turn up any Samsung monitors.
Check your Sound Preferences.
If you don't see the HDMI option in the Sound Preference, try going to the Audio MIDI Setup in Applications Utilities.
If the Sound Preference and Audio MIDI Setups are set correctly, then perhaps you need to either explore the Samsung Manual or try a different HDMI cable.

You can in fact buy what you want, no need to go with Apple TV
To connect (wirelessly) your Mac to the HDMI on the TV:
They range from $100 on up.

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

Is it the same user/iTunes account or...?
Syncing to a new computer should give you the opportunity to replace the exisiting contents with the new.

  • No sound on mac mini with Garageband?

Not sure why there is no sound. My mac mini works with garageband magic, but not with other parts of garageband. Sound works with itunes and other parts software.
Any ideas on how to get sound on my mac mini with garageband? Thanks, Jon

In GarageBand Preferences is where you need to choose the input and output. Then in the Track Info Pane make sure the correct Input Source is selected and turn Monitor On. But you've got to be careful of feedback. Also, make sure the Recording Level slider is up high enough to pick up your input (without peaking).
Using the Mac external speakers is not the best way to go when recording. Actually, without an interface, you're probably better off turning the Monitor Off when recording. When you record a second track - if you're using a mic - it can pick up the first track playing back. You're better off plugging headphones into the output jack.

  • Mac Mini with dual monitors (Apple & Samsung)

I just read several conflicting and old posts on these boards in addition to an outright, "sorry it'll never work" from an Apple store genius so I'm going to pose the question again all fresh and new like.
I have a Mac mini late 2012, 2.5 Ghz.  I also have a 20" DVI Apple Cinema display (1680x1050px). I would like to connect a Samsung Syncmaster 20" (1600x900px) and run it with desktop extended.
The Apple Cinema display works fine of course.  The Samsung has both a DVI and a VGA port.  I suspect there's a way to do it, and maybe even take a slight performance hit.  I even saw some people say here that the Apple store has a cable for this or that.  Sorry I'm just not figuring this out for myself.
    Thanks in advance all....

    Shouldn't be a problem!???

  • Original Mac Mini with Samsung P2770h LCD

Yesterday I picked up a Samsung P2770h from CostCo. Swapped out my old Viewsonic 22" LCD and it worked perfectly on my Windows 7 system, but not my Mac.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode, but nothing appears on the display. I've tried DVI-DVI and DVI-HDMI.
I've tried booting with the Viewsonic and then swapping the cable to the Samsung, but apart from an occasional flicker, I have a blank display
I checked the ATI website for new drivers for the Radeon 9200, but it said Apple provides them.
I vaguely remember having to change a setting when I first got the Viewsonic, but I can't seem to find the information.
Any help is much appreciated. The new display is so good on my Windows 7 system, but if I can't get it to work on my Mac it will probably go back !!!
    Thanks,
    Steve

Ok, after several hours more testing, I am making some progress. By logging in to the Mac remotely using LogMeIn I can see what is going on even if the Samsung monitor goes blank. I can successfuly set the Mac screen resolution to anything, except the native 1920x1080 The next highest is 1600x1200 and it works fine, but is far from ideal. So my conclusion so far is that the graphics card can't support 1920x1080 which is disappointing, but not that surprising given the fact that this Mac Mini is 5 years old !!! But I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will prove me wrong
    Thanks.

  • Mac Mini with Dell Monitor

I just bought my dad a Mac Mini and gave him my big Apple Monitor (can't remember size but bigger than a small TV:). Well dad says the monitor is too big and wants to use his Dell monitor. I called support and for the first time I couldn't understand the technician, his accent was too strong (I really hope Apple hasn't outsourced their support). Anyway, what I got from the conversation had something to do with a VGA adapter to a DVI? I have looked at the other topics on using non-Mac displays but they aren't really on point. Any help is appreciated:)
    Thanks
    Lisa

If the Dell monitor has a VGA connector (also referred to sometimes as 'analog'), then all he will need in order to use it with the mini is the DVI/VGA adapter that is included with the mini and therefore should be in the box. I use a Dell display with one of my minis this way and it works just fine.
If the Dell has a DVI connector (which is digital) then it will plug straight in without the adapter.
Almost all computer displays in the past 10 years and more use one or other of these connector types - most are VGA.

  • Mac Mini with Samsung Smart TV?

    Hi gurus,
I'm new to Mac. Can I connect a Mac Mini to my Samsung Smart TV as the monitor?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. If you have got a new Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer one), it has got a HDMI port, so you can use a HDMI cable to connect the Mac mini to your Samsung Smart TV in order to use it as a monitor.
If you have got an older Mac mini, you will need different adapters like a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or a DVI to HDMI adapter, depending on the Mac mini model

  • Mac Mini with no monitor controlled via VNC - video output corrupt

    Hi,
I have a Mini running with no monitor, mouse or keyboard connected (it's used as a Server for my music library) that I control via VNC on my Mac Book.
Everything works fine until I ever have to reboot the Mini. After the reboot, logging into the machine via VNC shows all the video corrupt (jagged horizontal lines through the whole display making it totally undreadable).
This happens both with ARD and Chicken of the VNC (tried both in case it was an issue with the VNC software).
To fix it I have to connect a monitor to the Mini. Then I can just unplug the monitor again and the video output via VNC is fixed.
Anyone have any ideas? It's driving me nuts
    Thanks,
    Neil

    After some more searching I stumbled across this thread on another forum;

It seems that the problem can be avoided by connecting the DVI-S-Video adapter that ships with the Mini.

  • Mac Mini with dual monitors running independently?...

    Hello,
I have 2 screens that I would like to make good use of.  Wondering if the mac mini....or any other singular mac solution would accomplish having both screens working simultaneously on different applications through a single mac mini?  Not mirroring screens.....but 1 of my daughters working on a "word" doc on her screen with her keyboard and mouse......and the other daughter surfing the web on her screen with her keyboard and mouse.  Also...if this setup is possible....is there a certain mini that I need to be running or a certain IOS?
If not mac mini.....is there another solution/workaround that would allow for this setup?  Trying to utilize my 2 screens as best as possible with keeping my hardware to a minimum!!  Thanks for the feedback.

No, there is no way to set it up with two different interface (keyboard & mouse) setups.
Unfortunately, it sounds like your about to become a two or three computer family.

  • Mac mini with dual monitors

I'm getting ready to purchase a new Mac mini, but I'm confused as to how I would connect my 2 LG L204WT Monitors with DVI connections. Anyone care to explain?

Through some kind of random clicking of things and hitting [revert] I was able to get both to rotate finally to 90'.  Wack.  It's definitely some issue with the HDMI port failing to refresh.
As long as I don't reboot, I think I have a workaround for now.
For the record - system specs:
    Mac Mini, Mid 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphitcs Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Software Mac OSX Lion 10.7.1 (11B2118)
(apparently I should have got the 2.5GHz model which has AMD discrete GPU)

  • Tablet with Mac mini with bluetooth?

    Hi,
I was going to use an iPad with my Mac mini using blue tooth but I learnt I would have to also use a blue tooth keyboard etc to use it.
Is there any other brand of tablet that I could connect to my Mac mini with bluetooth without using another blue tooth device?

I was going to use an iPad with my Mac mini using blue tooth but I learnt I would have to also use a blue tooth keyboard etc to use it.
This makes no sense. The use of a Bluetooth keyboard has nothing to do with the iPad. You may use either a USB keyboard or a Bluetooth keyboard. Period. The iPad connects to the computer by USB for syncing and updating. But just having an iPad connected does not limit you to a Bluetooth keyboard.
Is there any other brand of tablet that I could connect to my Mac mini with bluetooth without using another blue tooth device?
What did you want to do with the tablet that needs Bluetooth connectivity? Other than backing up my apps and syncing my iTunes library, my iPad is hardly ever connected to my Mac. It gets used independently of my computer through it's Wi-Fi connection. (Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Google Calendar Sync, etc.) One of the few apps I have that connect the iPad to the Mac is to turn the iPad into a large trackpad for the Mac. That uses a Wi-Fi connection, so still no need for Bluetooth. I admit, it would be nice to sync my iTunes library over Bluetooth, similar to my Windows Mobile phone to my PC, but what do you need to do over Bluetooth?
