No sound on Music Video Playback

Hi,
iTunes mysteriously stopped audio when playing music videos from the library - All ok with songlists and podcasts. Quicktime has the same issue.
VLC will play them ok.
Have checked every setting I can see /think of, but no luck - Any suggestions?
Thanks
Peter
2.1GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks Kay,
All video files are "MPEG1 Muxed". The thing is, I have added these to the itunes library from an old Windows machine and they have been playing good but just suddenly stopped playing sound. They are still on the windows machine - should I trash and reinstall?
Thanks
Peter

Suddenly my iPad is not playing the sound on music videos. I have already tried holding down the sleep and home button...still not working.

    1. If Side Switch is set to Mute, check to make sure it's not muted

  • No sound on music videos. I've uninstalled quick time and reinstalled. No good. Anyone?

No sound on music videos. I've deleted and reinstalled quicktime and that didn't help. I see there were some problems with this associated with earlier versions of iTunes (7.6 for example) but I'm using the most current version. Any ideas?

There is no speaker selection at the bottom of my iTunes. There is my system speaker icon on the bottom of the window however. Not sure what you mean?.

  • No sound in music videos

I download music videos from a peer to peer group. They all seem to come in a Movie File (mpeg) format. I have loaded one on to my ipod and the video played ok but there was no sound.
To check the ipod was ok I downloaded a couple from the itunes store which played ok and had sound. They came in a protected mpeg-4 video file format.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do or need to covert the ones in the Movie File (mpeg) format so they play with sound. I don't want to keep paying itunes when I have life memebership in the p2p group.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if fixed. If not and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple. If no coverage, clean charging port again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. If still problem, consider replacing the charging port with the attached flex cable.

Quicktime doesn't play "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
You need a 3rd party converter such as Handbrake (Mac), or MPEG Streamclip(Mac and Windows) to convert the video file.
The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
Incidentally, this question would have best posted in the iPod video forum which is here.

  • Music Video Playback

Tell me if I'm wrong, but after watching a music video, I get a black screen and won't go to the next video. If I hit the fwd button, I get the prior video menu and can select another video. Is this the way its suppose to work?
Is there a way to play all videos in a row? The playlist plays the song, but not the video.
    Thanks

I just create a playlist from within iTunes that has nothing but music videos within it (in my case, all from the iTunes Store) and then manually drag it to the iPod nano image that is shown within iTunes. I'm using the manual management method for my nano, I don't think that would make any difference.
In any case, it works because when I go into "Videos > Video Playlists" on the nano and select my playlist and then select the first video in the list they play back-to-back. I can also skip tracks while they are playing and it continues to the next video and then the next (i.e. it stays in back-to-back playback).
And it appears to work with both smart playlists and standard playlist that I create within iTunes. I suspect the playlist must contain nothing but music videos (no audio-only tracks) but I haven't actually tried mixing track types to see what happens under those conditions (maybe that would work also).

  • No sound on any video playback after 5-10 seconds

The sound on my second generation ipad seems to disappear after 5-10 seconds of watching any video playback, although sound works when i stream to my apple TV so I'm assuming its the device that's problematic. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue and get sound from the ipad would be greatly appreciated.

Perform a "reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • Music video playback issue with 10.4

Previous to Lion and iTunes 10.4 if I was view a playlist in coverflow and one of the songs was a video this video would play full screen and when it was finished iTunes would return cover flow and continue to flow through the playlist.  In 10.4 after the music video finishes I am either returned to the desktop if I was previously on the normal full screen iTunes view or retuned to the coverflow with it not tracking the songs, if viewing coverflow in full screen.  Any idea on how to make it work?

Do you have a SATA hard drive? I have the same problem you describe when trying to play videos in iTunes. Do the previews of music videos on the iTunes web site play OK? If they do you probably have the same problem with SATA HD and iTunes incompatibility. Not sure who is going to fix that problem and when. I have found one fix that worked for me. Copy your video(s) to a flash drive and then play them from there. It's a workaround and you shouldn't have to do it but it does allow you to watch the videos.

  • Freezing with iTunes 7.6.1, thumping sound, especially during video playback

    Hi,
Has anyone noticed a decrease in system reliability after upgrading to iTunes 7.6.1, especially during video/videopodcast playback in iTunes on their MacBook Pro's?
Specifically, the entire system locks up. Reminds me of the days of OS 7.5.5 when the mouse cursor freezes, keyboard stops responding. The only way to proceed is by holding down the power button.
This has occurred about 4 times now. The trackpad will become unresponsive, keyboard buttons such as caplocks and nu lock will be unresponsive too. Most interesting is that the sound output will loop, usually a short bit of the last audio played back over iTunes.
    Videos which have triggered this:
    - Podcast: Diggnation
    - Podcast: ABC World News Now
    - YouTube video's converted by Tooble
Here's a video I recorded showing the thumping noise. It sounds like the last audio dump before the crash looped. It's not coming from the hard drive. Definitely from the speakers.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzOCcINoClg
In the video you see I had World of Warcraft up, but I don't think it is the problem, because this kind of crash has occurred while using other programs.
    Details:
    iTunes 7.6.1
    QuickTime 7.4.1
    Mac OS X 10.4.11
    2.2 Ghz (MacBookPro3,1)
    4GB RAM
External second monitor attached: eMachines 15" LCD
Prefrence panes additions: Application Enhancer, Divx, FinderPop, Flip4Mac WMV, Perian, Teleport, WindowShade X.
Have NOT installed Security Update 2008-001 OR AirPort Utility 5.3.1 pending user problem reports.
I never had such a complete system freeze until about the time I updated to iTunes 7.6.1. Repaired disk, permissions, cleaned up virtual memory, cache's using AppleJack.
Thanks, just want to see if this is an isolated problem.

First, create a new user account and see if you can replicate the problem on that account.
If so, start by killing all the running daemons that aren't OS X-native apps. In other words, Window Shade X, Application Enhancer, divx, etc. Quit all that junk and use Activity Monitor to make sure those apps aren't running background tasks. I'd be willing to bet that Application Enhancer is the culprit.
See if that solves the problem. If so, you can add the applications back one by one until you find the one that's causing problems.

  • Sound system and Video playback.

Hello. Out of no where the sound system of my new iPad just went off. I can't here a thing. Not even during games or applications. Not even the keyboard clicks. Also I found out that i cannot watch videos online. While on YouTube the video buffers but it doesn't play at all. When hit the play button it freezes. So please help me.

Quit the YouTube app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up..
for the problem with your system sounds .....
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • The sound on my video playback has disappeared

I recorded a few videos on my iPhone 3GS this afternoon. When I played them back they were all working. However, a little while later (not more than a few minutes), I played back one video back and the sound has disappeared! The video was of the flypast at Buckingham Palace today in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Please help! Many thanks.

you can try doing a reset, hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up, then try the video again.

    Hi all,
I have uploaded the video to ipod touch. But I could only watch the video and could not listen any sound from it. Please advise if I have to convert the file before I upload it.
    Thank you.

If Carolyn's advice does not achieve the desired result, try a PRAM reset:
