No Sound on my Audigy2

:mansad:[size="4" color="#3333cc">I had to replace my motherboard and processor before that everthing worked fine but now there is no[size="4" color="#3333cc">sound and the Ctrl box will not light up or work what can i do?

I have now sold my excellent twnimos memory and borrowed a single-sided 256     mb twinmos module from a friend. I did the memory test to find that mem speeds was up a whole lot    The memory now runs in 400 mhz as it should and the speed has gone up from 2440 MB/s to 3021 MB/s. So now its going the right way at least.  I know that getting single-sided memory modules will work better. Running them i dual will probably get me some more speed too.
I've checked up on some memory modules but noticed that the information regarding wether the module is single or double-sided is scarse. Twinmos seem to have single-sided on their 256 mb modules and double on the 512's. Which rules them out  .  But I'll find some I'm sure.
Still haven't gotten my sound to work properly. If I reroute it to my stereo amplifier I can plug my headphones in it and get decent sound. But I shouldn't have to do that. My mic is still unusable. Made us lose our match on Farm this saturday too, which sucks. I blame MSI.
But I have ordered an Audigy2 so it should work properly soon. Leaves a hole in my wallet though.
But I still like the board. Transfer speeds from HD's are good. Extracting goes fast and stability is great, no crashes. Temperatures is low low. I run all my fans on 5v and everything but the S-ATA runs under 40 degrees celsius.  I havent tried any gaming benchmarks yet as i believe I will be disappointed. I'll wait til I've gotten the memory working proper.
I did notice a weird thing. The backplate doesnt fit 100% so two of the USB ports are unusable.  I'll contact the vendor and see if anything can be done about it. Looks weird though, like 2 mm off at least. And only the USB's, no other ports.

  • K7T Turbo Limited Edition HD Max

I currently am running this setup:
K7T Turbo Limited Edition Motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 Ghz, 384MB PC-133, 27.2 GB WD, 40GB Maxtor, Gigabyte 5900XT, MSI 52x Combo, Linksys 10/100 NIC, Sound Blaster Live Audigy2 Limited Edition
I have been over and through the website and I noticed that with the new BIOS which (3.6) the Turbo2 (which I don't have) can run up to a 160GB Hard drive.  I was wondering what the max is for the normal turbo.  My WD 27.2 GB drive is going sour and I want to upgrade to a Seagate 200GB HD, since I plan to use it when I upgrade in January.  Any ideas whether it will work without out major headaches?

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4
*Tried video drivers from 71.89 Official to 76.45 beta modified drivers
*Tried 5.10 official nForce drivers to remixed 7.02 nForce drivers (5.10 drivers uses 4.36 GART, higher drivers uses the 4.40 GART)
*Applied all the latest updates from Windows Update Website
*Reinstalled Operating System (Windows XP SP2) 5 different times clean with various settings (APIC on/off, etc...) and different drivers.
*Installed Audio Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) with older and the latest drivers available from Creative's website
    *Replaced PSU (Previously was a Thermaltake 420watt PSU, 18A +12v) with a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU (28A +12v)
*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...

Still a no go. Tried the last good config. and in safe mode. The installer gets to the second screen after the nivida splash screen (preparing setup?) then goes away. The VGA cable is connected correctly, I have checked it at both the vard end and the psu end. The 3dmark06 is all default (except for repeating 3 times). When I submit the results online they are way way low.
do you have the same terrible scores before BIOS update or you didn't tested it before?
go into BIOS and LOAD BIOS DEFAULT settings.
    then make clean OS installation.
if you use RAID prepare diskette with drivers: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/nVidia_nForce_SATARAID_Floppy.zip
and load with F6, at XP instalation start-up.
after installation is complete, install drivers in a this way:
    chipset drivers 1st: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/NVSA020.zip
    reboot.
    install Dual Core Optimizer: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/Setup.exe
    reboot
    then VGA drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html
    reboot.
then drivers for your onboard audio: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/Realtek_ALCXXX_NF3.zip
    reboot.
    install latest DirectX (October): https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101793.0
    run 3dmark 06.
if scores are still terrible, suggest you to try with better PSU. like in my signature or other good examples here:

  • Which power supply for k8n neo2 Platinum

I need to buy a new power supply for my computer. With the ATX12V v2.2 standard and ATX12V 2.01 and the "no -5v on new psu's" issue I'm at a loss as to what to look for. I have looked and cannot find what "standard" (is that even the correct term?) the k8n neo2 supports.
My main requirement is that the psu be 550-650 watts and have modular cables. I know someday I will have to upgrade my system to PCI-E and modern components, so I would like a PSU that would work now and in the future.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks
    system spec's
    Motherboard- MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4800 939 socket
    Memory-CORSAIR 2X1G Twinx2048
Video- ATI HIS 4670 1GB AGP
HD- Seagate 100 gb 7200 rpm
    Drives CD-DVD and CD-RW
PSU- Ultra X Connect 500W ATX
    Sound- Creative SB Audigy2 Gamer
OS- WinXP Home SP3 32 bit

Why do you need 550-650W or is that just because of future needs? I would suggest one of the Corsair +12V single rail modular PSU's if you insist on the modular design. Check newegg for what they have for modular in the Corsair lineup. I'm sure you're aware that their price is considerably higher than the non-modular. K8 MB's that needed -5V are the early ones that had Creative Sound Blaster onboard audio.
     HX650
        *  Was: $139.99
        * $109.99
        * After $10.00 Rebate
        * $10.18 Shipping
That's what it is now but if you don't need it in a big hurry you can probably wait a while and get for the same price but with free shipping.
Edit: Gee, Ultra with blown caps, I just happen to have a xPRO 800W that blew some caps, repaired it and started going bad again and then got my TX650 to replace it. Got it for $70 after rebate (which I haven't received yet) by waiting for the right price, rebate and free shipping. VX550 would have been good enough but at the time I got the TX650 at a lower price.

  • Several problems with Neo2 Plat - BSOD, lockups, reboots

    Hi all!
I bought myself a new computer today (or well, I bought the parts and built it), but I'm having problems getting it to run well. I've only had Windows installed for a little over four hours, but have already had lots of problems:
    1) I will get random Blue Screens of Death. The computer will reboot itself so quickly that it's hard to see what error messege it gives, but I thought I was something about IRQ. So I disabled all devices that I don't need, to cut down on possible IRQ conflicts.
    2) The computer will freeze. This happens occasional, and doesn't seem to be related to any particular task. One time it froze will I was running 3DMark 05, the other time when I selected a file on my SATA-disk.
    3) Files are corrupted. A lot of files (again on my SATA drive) seem to be corrupted - I get Cyclic Redundancy Check errors on a lot of them, and I'm pretty sure the files worked in my old computer.
    4) The computer will reboot for no reason. Just as the freezes, this doesn't seem to be related to anything in particular. Suddenly the comp will just reboot.
    This is my hardware setup:
    Mainboard: MSI Neo2-Platinum
    CPU: AMD64 3500+
    CPU Cooler: AMD Boxed Cooler
    RAM: 2 x 512 Corsair 3200 Value Select
    Graphics Card: Gainward GeForce 6800LE
    Sound Card: Sounblaster Audigy2 ZS
    DVD-Drive: Nec 2500A
    PSU: Antec TruePower 480
    Generic Floppy Drive
Does anyone know what might be causing my problems? If it had been only reboots I would've guessed that my PSU is the culprit, but with the corrupted files and BSODs as well I keep thinking it must be the mainboard...

Argh, putting the SATA disk on channel 3 instead of channel 2 didn't help anything at least. Got a BSDO -> Reboot while trying to access files on the S-ATA disk.
I should say that I'm using the latest drivers for everything - graphics card, soundcard, BIOS etc. Also, I seem to be having a problem with Live Update. When I try to use it, it say "The Service Has Not Been Started".
Also, I tried to go into BIOS and change HTT from 5x to x4, but when I tried to do that the BIOS seemed to freeze up. I couldn't escape from the HTT dialouge box (which by the way didn't show any text, only the title), not by pressing Escape. CTRL-ALT-DELETE worked for soft reboot, though.

  • DVD-Audio and "can not detect sound blaster card" with Audigy2 Va

I recently purchased an "Audigy2 Value" card from an eBay user, because I recently purchased some DVD-Audio discs. I downloaded the Audigy2 drivers from the website, and the Creative MediaSource player. 5. Surround sound worked fine for me, though sometimes the driver would reset to the default 2/2. sound and I would have to re-select 5. sound, which was annoying.
Then I was completely unable to get the MediaSource player to recognise my DVD-Audio discs, and the EAX functionality of the player would never work. The EAX logo never appeared in the player. When I tried installing the MediaSource player from an install disc, I got the message "can not detect sound blaster card". Then I discovered the world of EEPROM problems.
I followed advice from some other threads, including using ScanPCI to get information on the card, which yielded the following result.
When installed on my machine (Asus A7A266 motherboard) the ScanPCI reads:

Current Power State : D0 (Device fully-operational, no power saving)
(Just a note: above you can clearly see that it does not say I have an Audigy, it thinks it is a SBLi've. Is this normal? The card IS an Audigy 2, it says so on the card.)
So, I put the card back on my own PC, thinking this has fixed my EEPROM, but I get the same as before. Subsystem ID 0002h. And of course the install software will not detect the card.
I realise that I could go back to using the web drivers, but this still leaves me with MediaSource not recognising the card and not enabling DVD-Audio or EAX, which is why I bought the card in the first place!
I have heard that the VIA chipset is possibly to blame for the EEPROM problems on the Audigy cards, and certainly it seems like it is not permanent, since it gave different information on the other PC. So now I am seriously considering getting a new motherboard.
Do other motherboards cause this same problem? I don't want to buy another board and get the same trouble. All I want is to be able to install my MediaSource and have it recognise my card so I can listen to my DVD-Audio discs.
    Cheers,
    Russ.

Figured out my problem. Installing the drivers from the web to begin with was a bad idea. They just did not work properly with the card.
The "card not found" problem has gone as well, after installing it in another PC. I am also using the proper install disc now, as the other one I was using turned out to not be for the Audigy 2 value after all, but was an Audigy 2 install disc. That easily explains the "Card not found" error. The differing results from the ScanPCI program are still bizarre, though.
Thanks to all of the people on the forum who posted information in other threads to help me deal with this issue. For now I am sticking with the original drivers from the disc and I am not upgrading.

  • Installed New Drivers for SB Audigy2 ZS; Now My Sound Has the "Underwater" Eff

I installed the latest drivers for the SB Audigy2 ZS and I noticed that my sound now has that "underwater" effect. Sorry if I can't exactly explain it better, but I think you know what I'm talking about. I went to go play The Sims 2 after I installed the new drivers and my Sims are talking as is they are talking underwater! lol I really can't explain it. And I have Windows XP is that helps any......
    Any thoughts on this?
    thanks

Click on Start> ALL Programs > Creative > Creative Audio Console.
Make sure speakers are set to 5. if that's what you're using. I like to Synchronize with Windows Control Panel. Turn EAX to No effects, and/or turn effects to 0%. On the CMSS 3D Tab, turn the Mode to OFF.

  • Need Help Please: Audigy2 Value conflict with onboard sound

<SPAN class=postbody>System info: Windows XP Home Edition, 2.4 GHz IntelPent4, 52MB of RAM; DDR 200(33MHz), MSI MS-6547 (645 Ultra) motherboard. I need help! Sigh...well I am trying to put in a Soundblaster Audigy2 into my computer. I am under the impression that I have to disable and remove all onboard sound b/c it conflicts with the new sound card, ?. I currently have onboard sound ( AC97 Audio Controller ). I went to add/remove programs and removed the AC97 from there. I also went to MyComputer/Properties/Hardware/DeviceManager/Sound,Video,andGameControllers/AC97AudioContoller and deleted it. st Question: Under DeviceManager/Sound,Video,GameControllers...Do I need to remove the Legacy Audio Drivers? I know that I have to delete the rest of the drivers for AC97 and out of chance would Legacy be those drivers? I am guessing no...Also, is there anything else that I have to delete for the on board sound program to be gone? 2nd Question: I went to BIOS, and since I have windows XP home edition I think that configuration is a little different from what I read(I wont bore you with that). So, where do I go to "disable" the onboard sound in BIOS for Windows XP HomeEdition? Also, I read something about making sure the "Chip" was disabled but I could be paranoid. Do I need to worry about that? If you made it through all that text I thank you dearly. I hope that I can get some help from someone b/c I know nothing. I am afraid of making the wrong choice on BIOS and messing everything up. Thank You so Much! Ross Message Edited by RossRude3 on 04-06-2005 0:48 AM

    Ross,
To fully disable teh onboard audio you would need to go into the BIOS to disable the Onboard Audio chip there. The manual with your motherboard or PC should have more detail on where exactly to find this setting, as it will differ per BIOS type. Generally it should be under a heading like Integrated Peripherals, and should be marked as the Onboard Audio chip, or AC97 Audio.

  • Audigy2 ZS Pro Platinum - Windows sound scheme, wav fi

Installed Audigy2 ZS Pro Platinum card. Windows sound scheme no longer works nor does a timer program I use that plays WAV files to signal alarm. Control Panel "Sounds and Audio" shows individual sounds greyed out.
Windows Media Player will play the wav files thorough the player however. I see this problem without a solution in other places in the forum - maybe someone knows now??Thomas?

    tbradnc,
In Control Panel, under Administrati've Tools, Services, make sure that Windows Audio is started and set to automatic.

  • 6.1 and 7.1 sound while wathing movies doesn't seem to work with audigy2

I've got an audigy2 zs soundcard and gigaworks 7. speakers connected to it. In games, all the channels are used correctly, but not when watching dvds. The dvd-player I use is InterVideo WinDVD 6 and I've set the correct numbers of speakers in that program and in creatives Speaker Settings. When playing movies with dts es 6., I only get sound in the fronts, the center, the sub and the rear speakers. The sidespeakers ar silent. Same thing with dolby digital ex on like on The Star Wars Trilogy. The upmix on volume controller for the speakers uses the soundchannels incorrectly, wich can be cheked by the THX Optimizer witch is on the Star Wars Trilogy dvds. I have also noticed that the settings i do in Device Controls - Audio Headquarters doesn't work, for instance that the rear and side speakers should be used when playing 4. or 5. sound. Is anyone else having problems with this and does anyone have a solution? I'm using the latest drivers, so that's not the problem.

    Pcie2005,
Yup, that should be the case it you wanted the sound card to do the decoding instead of the DVD application.
