I had the same problem. Click on the Hp support assistant click on contact technical support then click on chat. Give a brief description about what the problem is then they'll help you. My problem was that I had to go to the hp website and redownload and rerun the Intel. My control Panel on sound devices was telling me that I needed to troubleshoot my computer. I troubleshooted it and it said that it found an error with my Intel Device or "I2C..."etc. That's when I contacted the Hp support asssistant. THey're open 24/7. Just follow the instructions they give you. And check if on the control panel under sound, audio devices it's telling you to troubleshoot because if you can pinpoint which device is the issue the hp support assistant can better, easily help you. I really hope this helps! This is the second time I write this. The first time I mistakenly disappeared it. But I wrote it again because I know how extremely exhausting and frustrating it can be to not be able to use the music and other apps to the best of their ability and to have to even think about sending your beautiful laptop back after all that waiting, money paid, and anticipation. HOpe this works! Hope you have a good day!

After I`ve followed David`s  steps my computer`s sound started working again. But it didn`t last. The sound stopped working just one day after.
I did the procedure again, and it worked. But just for a few hours.
The second time I reinstalled the IDT codec I noticed at the device manager that there is no conflict at the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
Instead, the conflict appear in another item of the sound, video and game controllers topic: high definition audio device.
Is there another codec I should reinstall?
    Could anyone help me?

  • Sound stops working on Envy 15-3040nr in Windows 8.1

After learning to resolve this sound bug with the Envy 15-3040, I was nervous about upgrading to Windows 8.1. But I found advice here that if my unit was purchased after a certain date (I think it was 2011) that I should be fine. My unit was purchased in late 2012. So I upgraded and it took hours of driver downloads before the sound finally started working.
Now the sound is gone again and the old methods of reviving it aren't working. This was my first HP and this sound issue has been a real headache. What can I do now?

    Hi @MDSAustin,
Welcome back to the forum.  I have taken a look at your sound issue and seen that you have had this issue before.
This can be frustrating.  What I would try first is doing a system restore to before the day that problem started happening again.  You may have had an update go through that caused it to start up again.
Here is a link to help you doing a system restore back to an erlier date and time.

  • NFS Rivals sound problem in HP Envy 15-j111tx

I installed NFS Rivals on my Envy 15-j111tx and to my suprise there was no sound. I tried reinstalling the game also but it didn't work. All the other sound elements in the laptop are still working. Please Help!!!!

    Hello @RickyTarjaes,
I see that you're having an issue with the sound on your notebook, when using multiple appliactions that produce sound. I will try to assist you with this.
The behavor that you're expirencing is normal, to the extent of settings. Certain applications/programs that produce sound can be set to "rise above" the other application/programs. Depending on current volume, this would lower the sound in another program. You generaly see this in voice chat programs, where they will reduce the volume of an other application.
In Windows this can be set as well. Below tells you how to turn it off in Windows.
In the Start menu, search in the Settings category (Win+W)for "Change Sound Card Settings".
In the Communications tab, change "When Windows detects communications activity" to Do nothing.
As for application specifc, you should be able to find instrustions throught their support. I would recommend starting with this.
As for the touchpad, this can be disabled two ways.
    1. Double tap the upper left hand corner of the touchpad. This acts like an "on/off" switch.
    2. Disableing the touchpad driver from Device Manager.  To do this go into device manager, look for "mice and other pointing devices", click the "+" to expand. You should see the driver listed here, right click on that and choose to "disable". This way you'll have the driver for later, but the touchpad should no longer be active.
I hope this is able to help you.

  • No sound on my HP Envy Ts 15 j021x

My Envy has been having sound problems for about a week now, I feel like I'd followed most of the advice I've read online. I tried updating sound drives, I reinstalled windows, I updated the BIOS. Most of the time, the sound would come back but then disappear again. It's very on and off, and occasionally when it works, it doesn't work perfectly. It freezes and switches between headphones and speakers. I called HP about it, and the engineer tried two things that didn't work, but I haven't been contacted back since yesterday. I'm really hoping someone can help me because I really have no idea what to do anymore. I'd be super grateful.

    Hello @-Monica- ,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums, and I hope you're having an awesome day!
I can definitely do my best to address your sound issue. If you have the time to spare, I encourage you to take a look at the thread that I created: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
There is a lot of troubleshooting for you to attempt. If you are using Windows 8, you may want to give attention to the portion that discusses the Windows update that is causing problems.
Please let me know your outcome. Hope to hear only positive results

  • Crackling sound from right speaker - Envy 14 Beats edition

The right speaker on my Envy 14 Beats edition has a crackling/static sound when playing any sort of sound from it.  I assumed it was a faulty speaker since its just the right speaker..  I've talked to HP support and they had me send it in.
After two weeks I got it back only to find that they simply changed some audio configurations in an attempt to fix it.  Nothing has changed and the problem still exists.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is some sort of fix for this without me having to send it back to them to replace the speaker.

Hello tedebare73.  I understand your notebook is making a weird sound from the left speaker.
Are there any other electronic devices (guitar amplifiers, cell phones, speakers) around the notebook?  These can all cause very strange noises.
Try hard resetting the notebook as well.  Here are the steps.
    Shut down the notebook.
Remove the battery and AC power.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds three times.
Replace the battery and AC power.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
Finally, if neither of the above have an effect try removing and reinstalling the driver.  Here are instructions.
    Go to your Device Manager.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot the notebook.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
Let me know the results.  Have a wonderful day!

  • NO SOUND (I tried everything) ENVY 14 BEATS EDITION

    ENVY 14 BEATS EDITION 2001tx
    Product #: LZ812PA#ACF
    WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64-bit
    Service Pack 1
    Location: Tokyo
I read through these forums and literaly tried all the solutions, hopefully you will prove me wrong and give me the answers I need.
So my pc went into hibernation and when I woke it up there was no sound. I did the following in no particular order:
    - uninstall, re-install audio driver (a million times, a million different ways)
    - installed the chipsets
    - booted, rebooted several times
    - restored pc to 4 days ago
    - undated BIOS
Still to no avail, this actually happened once before but I was able to fix it right away, this was a few months ago.
I can see my equalizer move up and down as it moves with youtube or music but there is absolutely no sound coming out the computer nor the external speakers I plug in. No turn on or shut down sounds either, ZERO.
    HELP!
    Annoyed...

    Hello belloblock,
Another document you can follow to try and resolve the issue - No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
I understand that performing a reset can be a nuisance but a hard or forced reset erases all information in the computer's memory which may restore functionality. Resetting your computer forces the system to clear and reestablish the software connections between the BIOS and the hardware.
Performing a hard or forced reset might fix the following conditions:
    -Windows stops responding.
-Computer stops before Windows loads - no boot, blinking cursor on a black display, and errors relating to OS not found or a missing drive.
-Display suddenly goes blank and stays blank.
    -Software freezes.
    -Keyboard stops responding.
-The computer does not return from sleep or suspend mode.
-An external device stops responding. (Turn off the power to that device in addition to performing the steps in this document.)
As you can see, a hard reset although not convenient could resolve the issue you are experiencing and is very much worth a try.

    Hi

Since I got it it happend 3 times.
First was after 1 week of usage. After some days it cames back again..

Last night, some days after the sound stopped the 2nd time, it started working again.
    But today it stopped again.
I`m not sure how to solve it.
On audion settins it says that audio is working well.
If I`m on a call in Skype the microfone works, but I can`t hear anything.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Luiz,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    Chipset Driver - Windows 8.1
When the reinstallation has completed, turn off the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click shut down to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.  When done, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Sound Not Working for ENVY dv6 after recent updates

Not sure if it was the most recent updates that did it or if it was just random, but...my sound has stopped working. OCCASIONALLY right after I restart, I can get the sound to work for a few minutes, but that's about it.  (I'm running Windows 8.1, by the way.)
I've tried the troubleshooter and it claims there's no issue. Sound card is there and working as far as I can tell; it's all enabled. I'm not muted or anything quite that trivial. I would try uninstalling an update, but I'm not sure that would even help. Prior to the update, my sound had started becoming distorted at time and a little crackly. Nothing too drastic or often, so I wasn't too bothered. Obviously, I am bothered by a complete lack of sound.
I have no idea whether or not headphones work still. I haven't been able to get the speakers working long enough to try them. "Fixit" claims it won't work with my computer, so I can't try that alternate troublershooter.
I've read every message board imaginable and updated and re-updated all my drivers. Not the issue. I have no idea what's wrong and no idea how to fix it, but it needs to be fixed.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello @samajama,

  • No sounds from HP Envy x2 11-g010nr.

Yesurday it was working. I updated my PC now it's not working.
    I'm using windows 8 32 bit

Also i know I'm suppose to download a program or something, I just don't know which program to download. Already tried to chact with HP, nothing.

  • ENVY x2 11-g010nr Notebook PC can't boot off anything but C drive (and that doesn't work)

I have this Envy here and it is stuck in the "repairing disc" loop.  I've gone into advanced repair and command prompt and run chkdsk /R (with no problems) and I've TRIED to run sfc (even with offline options) and it fails to run.
I'd like to try to run some other tools or at least recover the data off of it before I try wiping it out.  This means I need to boot off USB drive or USB cdrom.
Neither of these options are working.
I've disabled secure boot and put both the USB drive and USB Cdrom at the top of the boot order but they won't boot.  They also don't show up when I pick boot menu from the escape key menu when booting.
Both of these disc and jump drives work in other computers as boot devices so it's not that, I use these almost daily and have used them since attempting to get this to work so I know they still work today.
    Any ideas left?

    Hi @Gilligan8
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your hard drive is stuck in a repair loop, and you are not able to boot off of an external device. I am happy to assist.
Are the USB drive image and the CD legacy boot images or are they UEFI?
Have you tried the BIOS or system hardware tests?
You try one of these methods to try to backup the data on your hard drive, and once have everything safely backed up you could try a system recovery, for which I have two more links below.
How to Recover Data from the Hard Drive of a Dead Laptop - wikiHow.com

Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 8)
Do not do the recovery until you have tried to backup everything you can to another hard drive.

    Hey envy2,
I wouldn't recommend deleting the recovery partition until you've created the bootable flash drive and at least tested to see if it can be booted to. It's a risky situation but as long as you have the media in some form you will probably be ok. You can always create your own bootable USB using a Windows 8 ISO  later on down the road if necessary and download your drivers from HP Support and Drivers.
